Another great video Elli and Otto, never nice all the bangs and everything for Otto. I loved this route because there is so much helpful places for the hikers on route. One thing I will never forget is the wall gates, the wooden ones and so many cows and sheep 😂😂😂 . Take care both
Just discovered your channel from coast to coast Facebook group. Really great videos. I'll be attempting half of the coast to coast from Kirkby Stephen for charity next year with some friends so really great to watch your videos, really informative
Hi Elli, Hi Otto, thank you once again for these wonderful videos, well done Otto for being brave and love when you roll around on your back 😍 I look forward to your next video. Take care
I was at a loose end and it really brightened my evening to see that you had posted another video. Otto, poor soul, has his trials with the bangs, and you quite rightly, are wary of the cows. But they probably didn't even notice you. It was good to see that you took advantage of the flat and boring stretch - and used it to collect your thoughts. Constant stress isn't really conducive to making the best decisions is it - and Otto seemed more perky for it. Thanks again for posting your videos. I really enjoy them. Cheers ! Sheffield South Yorkshire.
I'm sorry Otto felt stressed by the loud noises, though I know farmers have a job to do. Fireworks are another thing & I wish more people would consider how it might affect animals who are totally reliant on us. Those honesty food & drink stations that people provide are such a nice thing that people do, I've come across one or two whilst walking in the Lake District & it's always much appreciated whether I buy something or not. Otto's stamina is amazing, you are a great partnership. Look forward to the rest of the trip xx
Thank you so much for following along, that means a lot 😊 that's true, I totally get why farmers use these - it's just so hard to predict and impossible to plan ahead because you just never know exactly when and where the sounds will go off.... but it's only been on that stretch and one little area on the NY Moors a few days later where I saw people grouse shooting which was scary for Otto too 😢 Luckily he's always back to normal if he didn't hear any noises for a couple of hours/a day and is no longer stressed....
Just behind you there is the sky, this wonderful English sky, to your left and to your right, I see an ever green landscape, in the company of your comments full of simplicity and humor. I must not forget your dog, apparently essential. I'm not English and I can't travel. They say that at the end of the road, there is eternity. I don't know that, but there is already a large and beautiful island and it's not so bad. And I happen to like the wind. THANKS.

I've been out on a training walk today ready for my attempt next year and found that you'd posted your next video on my return. Looking forward to the final installments as you and others that have uploaded their experiences have really given me the incentive to finally give this a go.
Another excellent, informative video Elli. Always a Sunday treat to view one of your hiking episodes. If you do a Q&A it would be interesting to know if there’s similar ‘honesty’ boxes/rest points that you’ve come across in your European hikes 🤔 Really chuffed we have them all over the UK trails 😃 No matter how dull a place may be, there’s always the odd snippets of history on offer. Thank you once again for sharing 👍🏻
The last sentence, yes to that!! That's how I see it too, there's something to discover everywhere, even if it's just a tiny detail, a little church, a sign, an old tree,.... I love finding interesting things everywhere 😊😍 thank you so much for following along and for your kind words 😇
Great video. I did the C2C in Aug/Sep so not long after you. I camped on the exact same spot on the Danby Wiske campsite and sat in the exact same seat in the cafe in Ingleby Cross 😂. Did Otto make it onto the "Howl of Fame" Dog Wall at that Cafe. Looking forward to the next video
I really was, I think I had 2-3 days with a bit of rain/drizzle and 1 day with horrible rain on the entire hike. Although we had a lot of wind for the better part of our second week, which definitely made things a bit harder. It was so so cold 😵💫🫣
Your video arrived at the best moment, I was in our conservatory and had just made myself a cup of coffee to have with a custard tart. Thank you, I really enjoyed it. Have you changed your camera since you hiked JOGLE, the filming and audio quality seems to be better this year? It could be my imagination of course, or it could be that we changed our TV earlier this year?
The Hildyard Arms is a great place to stop. If they are not serving food, they do have a selection of takeaway menus behind the bar and you can get food delivered - including Nepalese curries cooked by former Gurka soldiers who were stationed at nearby Catterick! I wish I'd realised that when I was there. I only found out when it was too late.
Lets just say when I did this 20+ years ago MOST of it was walking along country roads, now at least you DO get a chance to walk through some fields along the way to Ingoldby Arncliffe then its over the delightfull North York Moors.
Ahh, I didn't know that the route was going over minor roads on this stretch back then! Definitely better now then, walking along fields and not just on tarmac 😊 thank you for sharing and thank you for following along 😊 that means a lot!!
@@ellihikes Once I passed under the A1 trunk road all of the walking was done on the quiet country roads until I arrived at Ingleby Arncliffe. Then it was over the Moors until just before Gromont the Steam Railway place and the steep hill to climb out of the valley. When I say steep hill it was just that from memory its a 1 in 4 inclimb (for every step forward YOU take you gained the equal to 4 steps in height.
@@ellihikes See if you can track down Wainwrights Original Book of the Coat to Coast Route (and hand drawn images at a Library) approx £10 now but when I bought it in the late 1970s it was less than £3 that has all his Original hand drawn maps and notes. Or if you are near a local library in the Scarborough area they may have one, OR they may even be a book at the Pub at the End of the Walk at Robin Hoods Bay.
He's pretty used to hiking, so his paws are toughened up. I always check them at night, but I think in the past 3 years, he only had a hotspot 2 or 3 times ....
I dont understand your title - there i absolutely nothing boring about hiking , whatever the weather , whatever the location ? It is always good for the mind body and soul.
I totally agree :) I chose this title because a lot of other hikers I met, guide books etc. and even Wainwright himself described that stretch as not very exciting, sometimes even boring, especially compared to other parts of the C2C. But that's not what I thought of it, which I'm showing in the video. There is beauty everywhere, there are always interesting things to discover - that's the message of the video :)
Hi Elli, I hope you read and visited the grave of Henry Jenkins when you had coffee at the church in Bolton on Swale. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Jenkins_(longevity_claimant)

Poor Otto. When we had our lab, he was very stressed by bangs. Our wee Otto copy never used to be but the Halloween fireworks got her shaky this year.

Thank you 😇😊
I enjoyed the section from Richmond to the N. York moors - a land of big skies.
That's so accurate, yes! I enjoyed this section too, all part of the adventure 😇
You had a lovely smile on your face at Danby Whisk
