God Rest You Wary, Gentlemen - Honest Calvinist Holiday Song
The Honest Calvinist Conference is back with a brand new song sure to be an instant Holiday classic - God Rest Ye Wary, Gentlemen (aka Conform or Fear)
Lyrics:
God rest ye wary gentlemen,
Let caution be your guide,
Calvin’s watchful eye is near,
Sovereignty must abide.
If you should doubt or disobey,
There's nowhere to hide,
Oh, tidings of conform or fear,
(conform or fear)
Oh, tidings of conform or fear.
The city walls of Geneva stand,
With statutes carved in stone,
A fortress of theology,
Where grace is not your own.
Step out of line, and you may find
Slow burning fire your home,
Oh, tidings of conform or fear,
(Conform or fear)
Oh, tidings of conform or fear.
Predestined paths are tightly drawn,
No room to turn or stray,
For Calvin’s rules will hem you in,
And keep all doubt at bay.
Submit your will, or pay the price,
For mercy’s not today,
Oh, tidings of conform or fear,
(Conform or fear)
Oh, tidings of conform or fear.
So rest ye wary gentlemen,
Let vigilance be keen,
For Calvin’s reach extends beyond
The places you have seen.
Obey his creed, and you will find
Peace is never truly free.
Oh, tidings of conform or fear,
(Conform or fear)
Oh, tidings of conform or fear.

I am an attorney. As a prosecutor, i handled child rape crimes, adult rape, aggravated battery (near death) on a female and child battery leading to death. As a Christian of 53 years i find James white’s statements despicable, horrid and lacking the knowledge of God’ righteousness. His brutish take on these great tragedies akin to the statement of Lamech at genesis 4:23-24. He is as stupid as Lamech’s justification.

This lady says Augustine thoroughly understood neo-Platonism. Well, after having been in the cult of many for eleven years, I imagine he did. Then she says she herself did not understand it well. Perhaps she ought to have taken more time to understand it before she propagandized large numbers of people with it.

Augustine's teachings were surely some of the most virulent theological "viruses" ever to ever enter and mutate the mainstream of doctrinal truth in Western Catholic Christianity (and Reformed Christianity). Augustine's status as a popular writer and his arcane reasoning lent credibility to his reputation. Still though Orthodox Christianity still holds some reverence for him (mainly for his earlier apologetic works) they do not hold him to be a "Father of the Church" One of the foremost difficulties with Augustine's thought is that he maintained a NEOPLATONIST approach to understanding both God and human nature, which is based thoroughly on MAN'S REASONING and rational abilities...This is what essentially separates Augustine from the Eastern Orthodox tradition. His approach is based more on philosophical concepts rather than on the EXPERIENTIAL METHODOLOGY inherited from the Church Fathers before him.

Evangelist Charles Finney said that David's statement "I was brought forth in iniquity and in sin my mother conceived me" is more of a comment about his MOTHER and the circumstances by which SHE conceived King David, than anything about David himself when he was an INFANT. Likewise, when he said that he had "went astray speaking lies and gone astray" FROM the womb must be taken HYPERBOLICALLY to mean "from his early origins," or back to some distant time that he could hardly remember it since INFANTS CANNOT SPEAK. If someone conveys a point or speaks hyperbolically, they do so in a way that is not intended to be understood not to be taken literally but it is exaggerated for emphasis.

asked AI ChatGPT: "According to the Bible, how can a sinner living in hatred of Jesus Christ use her/his "free will" to choose Christ for salvation?" ChatGPT said: Obviously voting for Calvinism (Biblical Sovereign Grace Salvation theology, conservative Biblical Reformed Protestantism): ChatGPT This is a profound theological question that touches on the nature of free will, human depravity, and God's grace. According to Scripture, a sinner living in hatred of Jesus Christ cannot, by their own unaided "free will," choose Christ for salvation. Let’s unpack this in light of biblical teaching: 1. Human Nature in Sin The Bible teaches that humanity, apart from Christ, is in spiritual bondage to sin. Romans 3:10-12: "None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one." Ephesians 2:1-3: Sinners are described as "dead in trespasses and sins," walking according to the course of the world and under the influence of the devil. A person in this state does not naturally desire God or His ways; their will is enslaved to sin (John 8:34). 2. Hatred Toward Christ John 15:18-25: Jesus states that the world hated Him before it hated His followers. This hatred stems from sin and rebellion against God. Romans 8:7: "For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law; indeed, it cannot." A person who hates Christ is spiritually blind and unable to recognize their need for a Savior (2 Corinthians 4:4). 3. God's Sovereign Grace While human beings cannot, by their own free will, choose Christ, the Bible teaches that God works through His sovereign grace to draw sinners to Himself. John 6:44: "No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him." Ephesians 2:4-5: "But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ-by grace you have been saved." 4. The Role of the Holy Spirit The Holy Spirit convicts sinners of their sin and opens their hearts to the truth of the Gospel. John 16:8-11: The Spirit convicts the world concerning sin, righteousness, and judgment. Acts 16:14: The Lord opened Lydia's heart to pay attention to what was said by Paul. 5. Faith as a Gift The ability to believe in Christ is itself a gift from God. Ephesians 2:8-9: "For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast." Philippians 1:29:" For it has been granted to you that for the sake of Christ you should not only believe in him but also suffer for his sake." 6. God Changes the Heart Through regeneration (being born again), God transforms the sinner's heart, enabling them to respond to Him in faith. Ezekiel 36:26-27: "And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh." John 3:3-8: Jesus emphasizes the necessity of being born of the Spirit to see and enter the kingdom of God. Conclusion A sinner living in hatred of Jesus cannot choose Christ by their natural "free will" because their will is bound by sin. However, God, in His grace, works to draw sinners to Himself. Through the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit, God grants a new heart and faith, enabling the sinner to turn to Christ for salvation. This truth highlights the depth of God’s mercy and the power of His grace in saving those who are otherwise unable and unwilling to come to Him.

I think most Protestant Christians coming into a conversation like this are coming in with the presupposition that PSA is so clearly taught in Romans, Galatians, etc. that models by Ansolm or whoever are almost pointless to talk about because seeing sacrifice language and the way that Romans road is laid out, they can draw conclusions with the presuppositions that: sin = wrath = punishment = need a sacrifice (as the OT models) = Jesus is the sacrifice. Propitiation being a key definition to justify the flow of the system. Limited atonement isn't an issue because it can be thought of as we receive the forgiveness in Jesus's blood that is universal in scope but limited in final application due to belief.

Hi Warren. Just wondering if you’ve looked into Tertullian’s influence on Western atonement theories? According to Thomas P. Collins, “Tertullian’s theory that bad deeds demand satisfaction introduced a legalistic interpretation of the passion, death and resurrection of Christ as making satisfaction for man’s sins, an idea prevalent since then in Latin theology.” Love your work

    A. .…38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but to do the will of Him who sent Me. 39 And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that I shall lose none of those He has given Me, but raise them up at the last day. 40 For it is My Father’s will that everyone who LOOKS TO THE SON and BELIEVES IN HIM shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.”…(John 6:38-40) The will of the Father is that EVERYONE who LOOKS TO THE SON would have eternal life. The condition for obtaining eternal life is that we "LOOK TO the Son" and BELIEVE on Him. We are not to depend on our efforts or goodness but to give up every attempt to save ourselves and trust in Him alone. B. This call is perverted by Calvin so that it is beyond our power even to see our need and look to Him. Augustinians like Slick believe that anything we DO even surrendering and depending is a "GOOD WORK" like the works of the Pharisees who pursued a legal form of self-righteousness. C. Even John Calvin recognized that many could have a genuine desire for God for a season. • I do not see that this is any reason why He should not touch the reprobate with a taste of His grace, or illumine their minds with some glimmerings of His light, or affect them with some sense of His goodness, or to some extent engrave His Word in their hearts. Otherwise where would be that passing faith which Marks mentions (4.17)? Therefore there is some knowledge in the reprobate, which later vanishes away either because it drives its roots less deep than it ought to, or because it is choked and withers away." (Calvin 1963, p. 76. ) Yet Matt Schick assumes that the unregenerate have no hunger or understanding of God's word AT ALL. However, in the parable of the Sower some seeds died that first germinated so they must have understood SOMEthing.

And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast." Philippians 1:29: "For it has been granted to you that for the sake of Christ you should not only believe in him but also suffer for his sake." 6.

Slick said natural objects are not spiritual verities but Jesus used physical things to represent spiritual things. Total depravity has to do with one's native condition. Slick tries to play schoolmaster and refuses to reason unless McGrew takes a subordinate position Slick will not engage. He is too proud. Matt Slick must think people are not saved until that believe every element of the Nicene Creed.

I'm not a calvinist and never have been but Jesus had to become sin for us. So far i don't see a problem with what Sproul is saying. (I'm only 30:17 in though) God had to forsake Him because that was the judgment we would have had. Other scripture supports this. He who knew no sin, became sin. Google it. Not doing your homework for you

      1. Jesus is God 2. Scripture says the Father did NOT hide His face or forsake Him 3. Scripture says no one speaking by the Spirit says Jesus is cursed/anathema 4. God freely forgives, He does not need to punish but can stay judgment

Romans 5:12 does not say "all sinned IN Adam" even though the conjunction EN is used. In Greek EN Adam can also be translated BECAUSE OF. It is true that all who sin, do so BECAUSE of Adam. The idea that we have a sinful ESSENCE because we are descended from Adam cannot be true. A. For one, sin is not an material or metaphysical essence. Sin is an ACT OF THE WILL (sin is disobedience to the Law) B. Since since is a voluntary action someone with an extremely immature or defective mind (like infants) cannot sin and the Bible affirms that they are innocent. C. God Himself declares that He does not judge his sentient beings for the choices made by their parents. Such would not be just. In the scenarios of the last judgment we NEVER see God condemning anyone for Adam's sin. We do not even see Him condemning them for their parent's sin. D. This belief that we have a polluted ESSENCE was introduced by Augustine who was ignorant of Greek and had to rely on corrupted LATIN translations. He came up with the idea that sin could be transmitted GENETICALLY from TRADUCIANISM originated in Manicheism which was a Persian Gnostic cult he had been a member of for the eleven years BEFORE his conversion. E. This system holds that the IMMATERIAL aspect of the soul is transmitted through NATURAL GENERATION along with the BODY. In that belief system, an individual's soul is derived from the soul of ONE or BOTH of his parents. This is not a Christian teaching. None of the Ante-Nicene Church fathers who preceded Augustine believed in or taught such an idea but, being illiterate in the Greek language in which they wrote, Augustine was not acquainted with what they taught.

50.00 - Regeneration before faith. "I planted..." So someone shared the gospel, that seems to come first. Regeneration is used twice in the N/T. Never, is it used alongside the word faith. Never, is it even hinted that it comes before faith. In fact, in Titus 3 it is used to show salvation by the washing of the Holy Spirit. And we are told we are saved, sanctified, raised to life, have life, all through faith. So faith has to come first, otherwise it aint THROUGH faith. Fairly easy stuff.

@bradbrown2168 Tim has to affirm Mere Dynamic Omniscience to remain orthodox. This fact alone proves DO is not a problem. The real issue is what impact God's act of creation had on future contingents. Did His act of creation settle all future propositions, or did He retain His Dynamic Omniscience as He created a Dynamic world to reflect Him and have relationship with Him?

Finding a church is hard these days when you study and your eyes are opened. Would love to fellowship with you but there's an ocean between us. So I pray you'll find some brethren near you, especially now in the times you're going through. In any case, the Lord is with us wherever we are, and some brethren in Spirit as well. Blessings.

Fact: God is preparing the Messiah’s bride. You and Me. So it seems to follow that how one responds to the Spirit and the Gospel will determine who will be part of the Bride. Not a settled matter until free will options are no more. [Death]. Is logically thinking? There will be a Bride, but her final make up of cells is not known.

Everyone is written in the Book of Life at first, and most are blotted out of it at some time because of sin. In fact, it speaks against Calvinism in a lot of passages mentioning it 😅

Have you done an episode where you specifically address Calvinists proof text used to prove total depravity? That would be helpful as sort of an all in one episode. Like was Leighton has done with TULIP. If you’ve already done this can you link it so I can find it?
