The British Railroader
United Kingdom
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 23 ต.ค. 2011
Welcome to my channel, devoted to all things train related.
The main focus of the channel is the building of my current layout, Brooklyn Park - an HO scale shelf layout set in a fictionalised part of Brooklyn, New York, depicting the operations of the real life short line, The New York and Atlantic Railway with guest appearences by the Class 1 CSX.
However, I also like to go out and about and share my train rides, travels and time spent train-spotting with everyone through live action videos covering everything from the local railways of my home town to far flung systems around the world.
Add to this my 'shows you how' videos, model railway show reports, product spotlights and other miscellaneous railway related content, I hope that I have something for everyone.
Feel free to subscribe, hit that bell for notifications, click 'like' if you enjoy a video and post comments if you have any questions or if there is anything you want to share, I try to answer them all.
Cheers - Steve

Some nice layouts there.
@csxrensville5105 there were indeed
Carlton Vale Underground layout!!!!! Wonderful to see this collection of UK railroads. Hard to believe they are all portable. Thanks for this video Steve!
@@awblenko no worries mate, glad you enjoyed it
Thanks for posting so quickly. Only 6pm on show day and seen it already LOL!
@SDD3204 no problem, I like to get the videos out as fast as I can. Hope you enjoyed it.
Good to see you keeping well Steve, still on the circuit and keeping up with your channel. Thanks again from dropping by. Regarding the NMRA BR show, it looks like Mech Models has been confirmed and a few other traders like Anglo American and Neals (no not me lol) N Gauge. Even the Saturday promises to be pretty decent so hopefully you won't be disappointed. Regarding layouts there will obviously be the FreeMo contribution, dad's (Sqauw Falls), as well as Thamesiders' end to end switching layout. I am personally looking forward to seeing the Barge Job; Benoit has been sharing his progress on the NMRA discord and it looks lovely.
@Nealos101 good to see you too and thanks for all the info
Great video Steve, ive also had the NCE for about 2 years and I still haven't opened the instructions manual I'd rather see the demo videos like yours. Many thanks 👍😊
@brianfearn4246 glad it has helped you. The manual is not the easiest read in the world!
Projects coming on nicely Steve.
@@EagleCreekRailRoad thank you very much 👍
Nice modification on the MU cable, Steve.
@@DaveSCHS thanks
Great Camera work B.R. and also Modeling work, I'm surprised not to see any coupler lift-bar brackets that mount to the pilot. The brackets would have little eyelet holes allowing the lift-bar to swivel. As far as the hoses you fitted, you could always with some care heat them so they would relax and droop threw the plow's access holes. Love watching those Class 66's pulling some long freight, the're Beasts! Cheers!😊
@davidballoid2118 thanks for the comments. The coupler bars didn't come with the brackets but I had some I could have used (as have done so many times before). However, they are a pain and decided on this project I could get away without them, without it detracting from the overall look. After all, from normal viewing distances, you don't really notice them. Hope you enjoy the series 👍
And of course the drill bit would break while on camera! You recovered nicely however. Did you use standard CA or CA-gel for the lift rings?
@awblenko standard CA as that was all I had at tye time. It has worked well though
Acquiring all the needed detail parts is quite an achievement in itself. Can’t wait to see this project unfold!
@awblenko thank you my friend.
Well done!
@@DaveSCHS cheers mate
Great stuff. Good seeing the 66s in action at the start too.
@jimbarrett1975 glad you enjoyed it my friend

@@GenxDiorama-23 Thanks 👍
Hey up, looking very good, where did you get the MU Hoses/Coupler Bar because thinking of doing this myself on my loco project soon 😀 Hope you are well, Kind regards Tom
@tombore9516 hi mate, nice to hear from you. Thanks for the feedback. The bits were random Ebay finds. I have a spare set of coupler bars you could have but no spare hoses. I just keep an eye out on Ebay and the come up every now and again. Email me at thebritishrailroader@gmail.com if you want the coupler bars
We haven't been there for a long time, we must make another visit.
@@tectorama hope you enjoyed the video
Excellent stuff. I ended up bulk buying 0.3 bits from Amazon as I started with a rather high attrition rate until I'd got my technique sorted 😂. What brand of lift rings did you use? They look nice - it's those little details that really lift a model (pun not intended).
@jimbarrett1975 the lift rings are from Detail Associates. They came in a F unit dress up kit that I picked up on Ebay but I believe you can get them as a stand alone Detail part. Do you need some as I may be able to help? PM me on messenger if so 🚀
Well done, Steve.
@@DaveSCHS cheers mate
What’s the saying? “In true blue Peter fashion, here’s one I prepared earlier.” I think that’s it? So fiddly. I’m definitely making sure to model a railroad in an area that doesn’t have ditch lights yet lol.
@@andrewlaverghetta715 that is certainly one way around it
Grab irons? Sure. Those other ring things? Definitely not worried about them. I’m venturing into HO from N scale though, and it’s nice to largely not have to worry about it for N.
@@andrewlaverghetta715 it is an advantage of the smaller scales
Thanks for sharing, this was great to watch. A question I have is about the little white forklift in your lumber scene. Did that come already built or was it a kit? If so, was it difficult to build?
@TheGomes412 many thanks, glad you enjoyed it. The forklift is a Kibri kit, very easy to build, basically clips together. I haven't painted it yet, that is a job for another time.
If only a bluenami decoder didn’t cost a arm and a leg 😅
It is the downside. Hopefully as time goes by the technology will become cheaper
Lovely❤
@@Tauraco00 thank you

Very interesting video, Steve! I am helping my mate with his model railway, which uses the NCE Powercab system - which I have to say, I find a little intimidating! With a tablet and Bluetooth decoder-fitted loco , it really opens options up. DCC is still a dark art for us both. I don’t have a layout myself, but have more locos in my fleet than my mate, which amuses me no end! Keep up the good work, Sir! Best wishes from Wirral.
@@darrenhillman8396 cheers mate
You have a like and a new subscriber! I will be working my way through your back catalogue of videos. “If it looks right - it is right” is my modelling mantra. I’m not a rivet-counter but things have to look “right”, which perhaps puts me in the same mindset as you. I model UK practice, but I have an interest in US railroads. Looking forward to seeing how this loco progresses! Best wishes from Wirral.
@darrenhillman8396 cheers mate, much appreciated. I call it 90% correct. Don't get me wrong, I am impressed by those that spend the time to build prototype accurate models and they look beautiful, but I just don't have the energy myself 😉😅. Feel free to post comments and ask questions. I am also on Facebook and Instagram (though not a big Instagram poster) so feel free to look me up 👍
Congratulations as Always Steve! Keep up the good work!

@profitlauncher22 thank you, that is really kind 😃
Good afternoon, I am sure you have watched it but certainly worth it "New York & Atlantic freight action. 2019-2024". Interesting that the locos show red lights to the rear even when coupled to a train.
@andyknott8148 cheers mate. I will take a look but I did know about the red rear lights as I fitted them to my NYAR GP38-2. I think it is a throw over from when these were LIRR locomotives for when they were at the rear of a push pull train. Problem is that the NYAR crews sometimes forget to switch off 🤣
@@andyknott8148 just found it. It is from the Retired Railfan Horn Guy. He is the person who told me what horn I needed for my NYAR GP38-2 that I was then given by a very nice person 😉
Great video. Wife is out tonight so will settle down with a drink and watch the full 2 hours
Good start to the project, looking forward to seeing your progress. And thanks for the shout out about the MR article.......I've made the big time!

Congratulations on your milestone. I continue to enjoy and get inspiration from your videos. I have an Atlas Trainman GP39-2 and it's one of my best runners so I look forward to your upgrade project. FWIW, Model Railroader magazine had an article about a basic upgrade to the Trainman GP38-2 in the September 2021 issue. Enjoy your vacation!
@billwilcox1060 thanks for the feedback. I am really pleased that you enjoy the channel. Thanks for the info. I may have that issue in my stash so will take a look
Hi Steve, that is my favourite CSX livery. Looking forward to you detailing it, because I have a very old Tyco (red box era) GP 20 in NYC black. It still runs fine and has a dummy to go with it so the detailing for both of these should be similar to your GP38. As far as the question you asked, I would keep everything on the same channel, however if all your present subscribers sign up for the new channel as well, that that might be an advantage for you. Locos are always the stars on a layout but I would be really interested in seeing more about your boxcars, hoppers, tankers etc. What was the rational behind what you have chosen? I like collecting unusual road names if I can find them. Congratulations again on 1000+ subscribers.
@clivewilkinson6076 thank you so much for the feedback. At the moment, the overwhelming majority of votes are for me to keep things as is. I think once I have completed this series on upgrading the GP38-2 I will take a look at the wagons
As a fellow big fan of Geeps I will look forward to watching your progress with this model. P.S congratulations on the 1k
