For Christmas one year in the very early 1960s my father built me a 4'x8' Lionel layout complete with postwar rolling stock and locomotives, Plasticville buildings, a passing siding and one industry siding. Ran the wheels off those trains as my father was building a larger HO scale layout from a Model Railroader plan right next to mine. The Lionel set was replaced by HO scale racing cars and by now most of it has been sold off. But I do have my two favorite boxcars from my Dad's original 1962 Athearn HO scale set on my current in-progress switching layout. Thanks for igniting the memories.
I still have my original Hornby train set, one of the early two rail, I think it was Christmas 1962. The loco still runs but tends to waddle along. It gave me a passion for the hobby early on, and I started buying my own locos and stuff in my teens, after we moved to the US (1963-1973). Had a Tyco (red box) NYC GP20. Tyco made good detailed models then, before they got bought out by some toy company. The GP20 still runs, and can pull an awesome number of freight cars. a bit noisy, but I think it always was. Now back in the hobby after several decades hiatus. Still modelling NYC but now also NYOW and CP.
@clivewilkinson6076 oh wow that is fantastic. I should have kept a few bits from back then. I do still have one of my first American HO locos, a Bachmann F40ph, that I bought in around 1989
a lovely wholesome video Steve! My memories are of the Woolworths Night Mail set they did with Hornby and still invokes those memories now, and although the loco has been upgraded to a Bachmann version, the coaches have been toached up, painted a bit and weathered and still invokes that memory now!
Simple pleasures. My first train set was the Triang Freight master set. A Class 31, although I didn't know that at the time, two container flats and a working overhead crane. My Dad put it on a board for me. Plated with it for hours! 😃
Well, that was a surprisingly enjoyable video, Steve. In fact, believe it or not, that's probably a similar size to Dylington, and we always just play trains ... Cheers James 🙂👍
@DYLINGTONMODELRAILWAY cheers James. I am glad you enjoyed it. I have a question for you, does Dylan have an ice cream van on Dylington? Where I live we have a famous ice cream company called Rossis (yes related to the guy from Status Quo) and I would love to send him one
@davidsteckler8551 I have an RS1, the really old version with moulded grab irons. We seem to get S1s come up on Ebay over here quite regularly but never in LIRR livery
Steve.......if you send me your address I'll send you a frame to put your wedding photo on the shelf in lol. But I do like your forward thinking in that the dining room walls are already painted sky blue 😂

@EmperorsPath glad you enjoyed it my friend. It has done exactly what I had hoped it would

@csxrensville5105 it is the simple things in life that sometimes give the greatest pleasure. Obviously why my wife married me 🤣

@thebritishrailroader Hi Steve, no, he doesn't have one on Dylington 😁👍
@@DYLINGTONMODELRAILWAY send me your address via thebritishrailroader@gmail.com and we will sort that out
@thebritishrailroader ok Steve, I will, thank you 🙂👍
It's nice to just run trains at times, isn't it? After ordering it three years ago, Atlas is finally shipping it's new RS-1 in LIRR livery.
@DaveSCHS cool mate. I have one of the older ones but I bet the new ones are nice. Thanks for the comment 👍
@@thebritishrailroader, I have been looking for a LIRR S-1 but haven't found any. I think they came out about 10 years ago.

@@Castlebank_Sidings don't mate, I have already gotten grief from the Mrs about not tidying up 😅
