Hey Colleen! Maybe this is just me but when I read the title and saw the thumbnail, I thought the video was about stock footage subscriptions like Storyblocks. Like how to get access to more realistic looking footage that doesn’t look so produced. This video was still cool though and cool to know.

I remember around 10 or so years ago when I was looking for free footage to practice there was this “open source” movie called “Valkaama” it came with the script and was free to download. I also remember that I came across a music video contest where participants could download the footage of one Dear Rouge’s music videos to edit and submit! Good job! 👍

Cinestudy has Editing Challenges that provide you with footage and sometimes a script for each. The quality of the footage and coverage varies, but you can edit short films, scenes, etc. And the different challneges give you a chance to work on different types of projects.

I will add one more resource here. Elements of Film is a good site to get footage to practice and use for your demo reel because it's very affordable: 20 dollars per film kit, and one is free. However, the downside is that the choices are very limited: There are only six choices to choose from. I do not think he will upload any more stuff though.

I've been with story blocks for a few years and like it but probably switching to artlist. All my TH-cam videos get flagged for copyrights when I use music from storyblocks and they say that shouldn't happen, well guess what! Also, story blocks doesn't respond to tech support.

What are your top recommendations?

I edit with capcut and I don't see people looking for editors that use it. I however, really believe in the software and think that people underestimate how good it can be. My own videos are decent examples of that. Your videos have helped me get started on making a portfolio so thank you!

I need money then i remember when I was 12-13 I used to edit vids post it on my Facebook page I grew about 100 followers while having a vid with 800 likes on my most Popular vid then I quit. Now I’m back into it bcos I’m an 18 yr old broke college student that needs money.😢
