Earthling EDC™
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 9 พ.ย. 2011
I like to carry a small set of tools that help make life easier for me and the people around me. I might use these for simply tightening a screw on a rattling clothes dryer or helping someone out with a loose battery cable on their car.
This EarthlingEDC channel gives me the opportunity to work on some EDC ideas with like minded people. We’ll explore some interesting DIY concepts such as the pocket rack, look at new tools and possible ways to efficiently optimize your everyday carry to make your life easier and maybe even help a few folks around you to improve their day.
If this seems like an appealing idea that you would like to help us with, consider subscribing. I look forward to seeing what we can come up with.
All the best,
Phil

HUGE! Amount of EDC Gear Packed Onto a Mini Organizer- More New Ideas For Your 2025 EDC Kit
This video features my updated mini EDC kit going into 2025. Some major improvements have been made to the the Pocket Rack design since that last time I featured one of these videos about my kit. It now has a wide swath of Hook & Loop Velcro style fastener on one side of the Pocket Rack EDC Orgnaizer. This now gives you the option to attach tools and other EDC gear directly to the surface of the rack using Velcro like hook and loop. On the other site of the card I've also added 3mm of EVA black sponge foam to the surface of the rack. This helps the elastics hold the tools to the surface of the rack much more firmly, allowing it to take impacts from being dropped and / or shaken aggressively and still keep the EDC tools secure on the Pocket Rack. My next video will have more details on these new feature
I also got my hands on the now famous / infamous $9.97 Walmart 7.5" D2 blade folding knife. I've removed the pocket clip to see if I could come up with a quick access solution to access it in this kit. Let me know what you think in the comments. Lots of other interesting stuff as well. Looking forward to reading what your thoughts are in the comments section below.

RovyVon U4 Pro Titanium Carabiner Review: Scalpel Blade, Bit Driver, EDC and Key Organizer
I prefer the 125 Knipex Cobra and Wrench, they have a better grip and the give you a little bit more force.
Im not sure if the tin is different in different markets, but for what its worth I found the tin my 711L came in is a good size to fit both it & the whole steinwhale set including extension. Just need to be efficient with space by storing a bit in both the 711L & the extension.
i have been checking your website for a long time, to see when you were going to start selling the pocket racks. i was recently excited when I went there and found you were selling them, only to find out you don't ship to Canada. Oh well, maybe some day. Love the channel. Keep up the great work!
@TurkishKS - Thanks for your post. Sorry about that. We may expand shipping into Canada, but right now we're just trying to fulfill orders in the continental U.S.
The Knipex Cobra pliers are simply an over-advertised (on TH-cam) and overrated product. There are hundreds of Cobra pliers made by top manufacturers round the world. And yes, they cost much less and have better torque.
@rajeevprabhu6722 - That's very true. The key differentiators that make the Knipex XS different are the weight and the size. The small size and light weight make them ideal as a tool to be carried. I think the T-Rex featured in this video comes close, but it's slightly heavier and larger. I'd love to hear any suggestions for pliers that are comparable in size and weight. I've spent quite a bit of time looking and I'm very open to suggestions. Many thanks for your post.
Very cool, Phil! Love the lighter mods! I'm still using the Steinwhale bits too. Keep up the good work!
@ParkerBinion - As always, many thanks for your feedback. I'm going to try to get another video out this week that cover the new bands, the hook and loop mad for the card, the 3mm sponge for the card and a mini neoprene pouch mod that ads a really nice spring steel belt clip. I like this mod because it makes it easier to clip on (or take off) a low profile mini tool pouch that can be used with the Pocket Rack mini. Thanks again for your post.
I added shrink tubing on my knipex
@benterwellen - Thank you for your post and for being a subscriber. I tried that and the tubing kept slipping off the handles. Was there a particular brand that you used? Many thanks.
Love how you keep improving and finding new things to put on the rack. Thanks.
@deakemarschall2992 - Many thanks for taking the time to share your feedback. I actually like making these. As mentioned in this video, I've got a couple more I want to put out over the next couple week. I'm actually pretty excited about the new elastics that were featured in this video. They are by far the most robust I've come across for 2mm elastic shock cord. The colors are really stunning as well.
Great video!!! What's the exact measurement of the first aid kit pouch?
9cm x 6cm . I believe I purchased the same type Phil mentioned in a previous vid.
69mm by 99mm but keep in mind that these are soft plastis and may be a few mm off from the official size stated on the website. s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_Dlj2Ytb I think the 10cm X 7cm size is what you will want. Best of luck with your build.
Maybe add a $30 cardputer from M5stack? Then you're prepared for absolutely anything.
@FerociousSniper - Thank you for your post and for being a subscriber. I've been thinking about that for a while now. From my perspective my phone is already my in hand computer and I suspect a lot more user friendly. What do you think I could do with the cardputer that i could not do with my phone? I'd be very tempted to actually build a pocket rack out of one :-). Thanks for posting!!
@EarthlingEDC I haven't got mine yet, but I've been doing a bit of research. For someone like me, the main use would be cool fun stuff. But for others, they could scan for wifi traps, hack into a piece of animatronics that isn't working properly, use it as a rfid device, use it as an ir scanner or universal remote. It's my understanding that it has a lot of legitimate practical uses. I'm going to try to find ways that it can improve my life and make daily tasks easier.
Hi! What's the exact measurement for the plastic pouch for first aid kit? The link in the PDF doesn't work
@flaco1944 - Thanks for you post - You are going to need the 10cm X 7cm pouches. I added the link to the thread your last thread.
Watching your TH-cam I went to Amazon and purchased a few of your suggestions like the ti bit driver. You have lots of good ideas for EDC. Thanks
@keithadler965 - Many thinks for your post. I sincerely appreciate the feedback. I just posted a new video yesterday. If you enjoyed this one, you probably like this new one. th-cam.com/video/9cQreGEkDPY/w-d-xo.html
The ratchet is cool, but it's kind of overkill for screwdriver tips. Maybe for nut drivers, perhaps? But I don't think you could apply more torque with that ratchet than a screwdriver.
@roy.mclean - Thanks for taking the time to post. That's an interesting idea. I might actually test that to see if there is a big difference in how much torque can be applied with the 711L ratchet vs a screw driver. For this video, I was looking for small compact tools that will fit into this kit, the size, weigt and capability of the tools are big factors. A standard sized screw driver would not work for this application. There is one in the multitool though. Thanks for your post. It is greatly appreciated.
I just put a small strip of duct tape, maybe 2 depending, across the spot in front and that should do it
@realgrieve - That would work. Thanks for posting
If you open it look at the lid and on the inside edges put some tape /any choise i would use gorilla tape then it will close
@MaryHoogervorst - Many thanks for your post. That's and interesting suggestion.
I mean maybe a rubber band would work Only need it for just in case
@chainsawchanselour5452 - That's very true. thanks for your post.
Awesome work! What kind of saw blades would you say work best for this? Just bought the pocket rack!
I use the U-shank jigsaw blades
I’ve had it all and ditch most of it. Down to a Leatherman and a flashlight. Life has never been better.
@forgetyourlife - That's perfect since it works for you. Wi these Pocket Racks one of the advantages is that it keeps your EDC limited to the space that's available on the rack. So you can store just 2 items or cover both sides of the card with tools, depending on what your needs are and how much you want to carry to fulfill your daily needs. Thanks for your post.
@ I understand. I used to carry quite a bit but never used most of it. The fear or not having the right tool got pretty heavy. Keys are still an ongoing problem.
Love it!! Transforming Lip Smacker tins! Genius

What a great sharing, it's a very well thought kit ! I really enjoyed it, thanks a lot 🌷 PS : I wonder if there was sharp edge on the can, have you filed it ?
@violaineaudrey8841 - Thank you for your post. Run some sandpaper or emery cloth around the inside edge to take off any sharp burrs that might be lurking. thanks for brining this up.
@@EarthlingEDCthank you very much for your reply 😊 Have a nice day ! 🌿🌸
Those are some great mods. I'm not a mechanic, so it never occurred to me to do that. Thanks!
@greyscout01 - Thanks for taking the time to post. This was definitely a fun build and I'm still liking the T-Rex design. It is a bit heavier than the Knipex, but I feel it can get just as much done for less cost.
Awesome!
@renanmarcondesfacchinatto1316 - Thank you for posting and for being a subscriber. This was a bizarre little experiment on my part. The weight was a bit more than I wanted, but it gave me some ideas about how to make things lighter and still have a good quality kit.
Thanks for contributing to an Open Source community as well as the Pocket Rack design! Made my first one and loving it. Looking forward to contributing with my own hacks.
@SonnyStormes - Many thanks for taking the time to post and for being a subscriber. This channel is built on feedback and contribution from our viewers. The Pocket Rack project in particular has evolved because of that. Thank you for contributing to that project. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.
I just put a ranger band around my tin.
@stefaniedc1128 - That would definitely work. thanks for taking the time to post and here is another video for you that shows how the drawers were added. th-cam.com/video/cEyH6WbgmnU/w-d-xo.html
What edc stands for?
@allan_scott - Thank you for your post. EDC stand for "Every Day Carry" or "Everyday Carry" . These are the things that people carry on their person every day like wallets, phones, pocket knife. small tools, keychain, mini flashlight, pen. etc. I hope this is helpful. There are a large number of enthusiasts on youtube that follow this topic. All are welcome :-)
Sold out already any news when another batch will be out. Looking at the mini rack. Or a credit card sized rack that I could use in my wallet with an alox bantam and victorinox replacment scissors.
@Tlaloc223 - Thank you for your post. I'll be loading another batch this Friday evening. I can only handle a limited number of orders, so that I can process the orders over the weekend. To be clear, you can always download the STL files at www.thingiverse.com/search?q=pocket+rack+EDC&page=1#google_vignette for free and get a local printer to make them for you, or upload it to one of the many online services that will print and ship them to you.
Broccoli rubber band works like a charm
@rikergood5530 - I'm sure they would. thanks for your post. This video might be of interest as well: th-cam.com/video/cEyH6WbgmnU/w-d-xo.html it shows how the drawers were added.
@@EarthlingEDC thats awesome man! Love the drawer idea.
Is there a way to marry rack like this with those robbers?
@TheInchii - Thank you for your post and for being a subscriber. Yes, you can connect card together. Thank a look at this video: th-cam.com/video/mNUoSjcSxHg/w-d-xo.html it will show you hw to attach pocket racks to each other.
More and more people are switching on from the age old, non modified small Swiss Army knives to Nextool mini multitool !!
@rajeevprabhu6722 - Thank you for your post. I agree with you. I think the quality of the Nextool mini multitools has gone way up over the past few years. They now give you a great option to having just a small knife.
Rubber band ?
@wiktor-tobiaszravn2820 - A rubber band would work, Also, you might want to check out this video to see how the drawers were added: th-cam.com/video/cEyH6WbgmnU/w-d-xo.html Thanks for your post !
"i wouldnt do it" does it
@Quackenfr - Yes, I did indeed :-) I don't use it with the drawers, but I did make one so that folks could see what it looks like: Here is how it was done: th-cam.com/video/cEyH6WbgmnU/w-d-xo.html
@@EarthlingEDC haha i know im kidding thats pretty cool tho
That is dorky. I love it.
@knghtbrd - Thanks for taking the time time to post. I like dorky. The video short that I have for this standard video is the most popular video I've ever made. It's even more dorky :-) th-cam.com/users/shortsoXTEAvByBVs?feature=share
I recently got a flat flashlight and am trying it out.
@Olyphoto7 - Thanks for taking the time to post. What did you end up getting. Just curious.
@ Olight Arkfield Pro because I wanted a flat, deep pocket carry with a green laser beam for emergency signaling. This one light replaced two carry items. Still in the early stages of testing…
Lol just bend it out a little it’s tin
@llsoonerll - That might work. Rubber bands seem to be the more popular solution. Thanks for taking the time to post.
Try gluing another magnet down in the extension to take up some room so you don't have to dig out your bits.
@simmonds6063 - Thank you for your suggestion. The more I've used the bits, the easier it has become to extract them. I also usually use the bits with a more shallow bit extender. Thanks again for posting.
This is quite kismet. I recently considered adding a flashlight to my EDC, but decided against it because of the added bulk. Then I saw a flat flashlight on sale at my local hardware store. Been carrying it for a couple weeks, and I haven't even noticed it in my pocket.
I don't know. Is she good in bed??
I love your videos, and the website is looking really good! It seems counter intuitive to take off the clips. Especially the two-way clip - couldn’t you clip it to the card? It gives it more utility if you can easily mount the light to different places. It’s why I like the Rovyvon a-series with the magnet clip (I have a little elastic loop on mine too). It’ll clip or stick or loop onto anything. I can use it in so many ways.
@JamesBryant-nz1oo - It is completely counter intuitive. The only reason I remove them is so that they will take up the least amount of room on the pocket racks. If you are going to keep them in you pocket or in a pouch, it's probably better to leave the clips on. This video was an exercise in storing flat flashlights on pocket racks, so taking off the clips was warranted in this case. Thanks for taking the time to post.
@JamesBryant-nz1oo When you clip it to the card, depending on the location of the clip on the light, it may expand the amount of space that is necessary to store the Rack. the clip will also get in the way of tools that you might want to store on the opposite side of the rack.
@@EarthlingEDC I was thinking about my own carry and I get it. I think you said yourself that there’s always a trade off. Space vs Weight vs Utility. In order to get the best of one you need to sacrifice something else. It’s all about what is important to you and what you need in a given situation.
I have picked up on your great concept of recycling the backs of old iPhone cases as the backing plate, (which work awesome because they have a natural retaining wall all around one side, and are a natural platform for velcro on the other) and use two of them (as in this video) inside of a "Clakit XL" pouch. This pouch has two separate zippered compartments (perfectly sized, one for each case back) and has the advantage of a kind of proprietary clip that can attach horizontally (belt) or vertically (backpack strap). (No connection, just something I found that works.) Another concept I've added is complementary packs. The most compact set, one pack that is easiest to body carry all the time, which, complements/ works with and adds to, what's in another (also small) pack that might be simultaneously backpacked or kept in a vehicle. The second pack has stuff that works with but doesn't fit in, or weighs too much for the first. Though the first can stand alone.... So you can choose to go very small/ light and grab only one, or go bigger with both depending on the situation. Thanks for ideas!
Great ideas!
