Delta Pro 1800 watt array runs portable air-conditioner for 10 hours straight. 1600SQ FT House. TN
Today is going to be 97°F here in East Tennessee. Decided to run the Hisense Portable 12k btu ac off the Delta Pro with our homeade 1800 watt solar array. these are 18 X 100 watt renogy and HQST panels. 6S3P. We were able to help the 3 Ton airconditioner keep the house to a cool 73-74 °F all day with the Main house airconditioner not coming on till about 2PM and the House Airconditioner would run for 15 minutes and off for 30 minutes. we did not see our full 1600 watts today due to 2 reasons. 1 was the temperature and 2 a slight haze in the sky. I calculated we produced about 9.6 KWH of solar today and used about 12.3KWH since we started at about 40% and ended with about 16%. airconditioner never turned off. ran at 1130-1220 watts for about 10.3 hours today.

Very nice. If I built one I'd probably add some large caster wheels so you can easily move it to service/repair it or adjust the position for better sunlight.
I want to do this. My backyard is a south facing hill that gets constant sun in the summer. My biggest concern is wind. I'll need to be able to move the setup before a storm comes. Are the panels worthless once hit with hail?
@mrniceguy423 if they are at a good enough angle they should be fine. I've never covered mine. I just put a couple of trailer ties in the ground behind them and ratchet strapped them down and they never move now. (They flipped over once with a microburst nearby. Learned my lesson and fortunately none of them broke).
@@jaysonstebbins2539 Thank you! I hope to have this set up next summer.
Sell that renogy junk and get a victron and you'll be amazed.
@@OGCrypto33 no issues and great production for 3 years straight now. Why change? I actually hate working with victron. There's too much dongle... 🤣
It would work just fine as long as it is not used in a windy area. It would blow over on my property. I would want it a little taller off the ground to keep it away from snow and weeds that would obstruct the panel. Other than that it looks good.
Pre drill ur screws holes first…. its all split to hell. Thats gonna collapse in no time. Or just make a badass one with diff material. Cheers 👍🏻
Wait for the next storm! You need some heavy stones on the feet to fix it to the ground!
I made a similar base frame with 2 long 2x5 treated, which sit on a pair of wheelbarrow wheels in the centre, so if you have a big lawn, the whole thing can be easily turned and moved to keep facing the sun throughout the long summer days. Scotland so in May, June July the sun rises 4.30am in the north-east and sets 9.30pm in the north-west.
@lapoguslapogus7161 wow that's a long day and a great idea! My whole backyard is a hill so it just sits wherever I put it for a while lol. We are 730am to 730pm at the moment but because I live in a valley I get production from 9amto 6pm lol. Thanks for watching all the way out from Scotland! So cool!

Jayson - Am planning on building mounts like yours - can you tell us what kind of brackets you used? Thanks.
@craighart7614 which brackets? The solar brackets which are Renogy Z brackets or the 4 inch L brackets for the corners?
@@jaysonstebbins2539 For the wood DIY mounts, you used what looks like small aluminum brackets (the $20 brackets?) that are probably the L brackets. Thanks for responding!
@craighart7614 nope, just standard Z brackets is all I used. I overlapped them as well to save space. I actually laid the 2 4x4s down on the ground and attached the panels to the wood first then cut the remaining off and used the scrap for the legs. And the L brackets to connect the 4x4s in in the corners, and the hinges at the bottom.
@@jaysonstebbins2539 Thank you!
The racking sellers make this much more complex that it has to be!
Hmm, could you put something like that on a roof.
What cables do I need to purchase to go from a Champion generator to the Delta Pro 3? Thank you in advance for your time!!
@billburkard1366 mine is a TT-30R or a standard 120v outlet. You should be able to directly plug into your generator.
Fabulous
New subscriber here.
I want to build this setup on a small trailer so I can move it around the property and/or leave with them.
@@dirtisbetterthandiamonds that's a great idea!
Please how can I power with it with generator?
Use the power cord that comes with your solar unit and plug it into a generator outlet.
Simple but a smart solution.
Looks nice. Only change I would make is to extend the 'feet' a couple of feet past the front of the panels so a wind from the rear won't tip the entire rig forward and on its face.
@NitePHX ya, I didn't think of till after and used up all my wood lol. Good thought for anyone reading comments for additional information on this thanks!
Also secure the back side to the bottom, to prevent movement at the hinge if you plan to make it dynamically adjustable for angle to the sun.
My favorite system for both hot and cold coffee. I'm addicted lol

@user-jw2oi6dc8g what isn't charging and how are you trying to charge it?

Creativity always wins over commercials advertised products. Just make sure you anchor the frame to the ground...
@byzidjhan I blew over once. Then I anchored it. Then moved it and built on to make my 1800 watt array consisting of 18 100 watt panels lol.
Great videos, thabks for sharing- how does it connet to the batter, are both mppt's direct to the batter, how?
@philipjamessharples9180 yes both mppts are connected as normal to the batteries.
I like the way how you used the 2x4's to vertically assemble. Thats a good idea.
Pretty nice, I would just have smaller wood, more like half large would be enough and lighter. If I need to move it prefer when is not that heavy :)
@gabius_times it's now a 1800 watt 100 watt panel array so I'm happy I built it as strong lol.
Nice install!! I like it!
I found it funny how people worry about comfort. During an emergency, foods and waters are what keeping you alive. Spending 5k+ just to get 4 hrs of cooling? Wait until power outage that lasting 4-5 days. 😂 I found it so pathetic. Worst part is people actually listen to TH-camrs.
@user-xm1kw6jq7n it's just a hobby for me bud. In this case I can keep food cold and the house warm all day with what I have. That's all I care about. I got water, food, and extra gas put away so I'm good for at least 3-5 days anytime of the year. And plenty of propane for heat. Thanks for the comment but remember it's a hobby for most.
Put wheels or casters on it and make it mobile!
Just bought the same thing.
@mikevalkanet4651 how do you like it and what solar did you go with? What do you use it for?
Thank you for making this video. I have been looking at cheaper ways to install solar panels. The market is so expensive
*photovoltaic/solar thermal technician here: I APPROVE!* add another 2x4 across all so you can add sandbags so wind doesn't blow over creating a *self ballast* sand bags might not be good idea, water in 5 gallon buckets since you travel. if were permanent fixture then sandbags. *Good Job Brother!*
So 2000 of equipment when you could have used your house ac unit
@kurtmaxberry7025 it's a hobby and a backup power source. I understand it has no ROI.
I love these guys literally they’re a bunch of people it be like saying if I eat my own poo I’ll save money on my food bill
@keithgood2387 good luck with that! :)
Love this tech.
That’s exactly how my 40 amp HQST says to hook up its max 600 watts for a 12 volt system. They don’t consider it over paneling.
@kennethwilson8633 exactly and honestly I've only seen 550 watts so it's perfect
It's not overpanelling. Over panelling is considered up to 1.5 times over recomendation. This person will NEVER see their controller read 40 amps. Bear in mind that your location, solar panel angle and shade need taken into account so perhaps someone needs three times the recomended panels to reach close to 40 amps... Is that still over panelling? Or just good sense?
@unconsciouscreator3012 overpaneling is anything over the rated max amperage it is rated for. And for the record I have consistently seen 42-44 amps at 14.2v during the wintertime AND summertime. These mppt Controllers can allow about 10-15% amps over thier rated but will not pull over that. Overpaneling is anything over the rated "watts" or "amps" available to pull. I have seen 2400 watt systems on 800 watt or 60 amp 12v charge controllers. Watts are an easy way to measure power. In the solar DIY world we talk in solar amps and volts as well as battery amps and volts.
I would have liked it if he mentioned the measurements...

I just purchased the delta pro and three delta 2 units. I have a Westinghouse 2550 gas inverter generator. I also have three Eco flow 400-watt foldable solar panels. I downloaded the ECO flow app. I 'm able to adjust the wattage from the app. My issue is when the internet is down, how do I adjust the wattage so I can charge either a delta 2 unit or delta pro with the generator as I do not have enough solar panels to go around. I've tried, and with the internet down I'm unable to access the app and or wattage control on the app. I'm not sure if the IOS button will work to achieve my purpose (to charge the solar generators with the Westinghouse). In your video you state don't go over 1000 watts for the delta pro, what is limit in wattage for the Delta 2. What do you suggest. Thank You Richie
@richardrubenstein9587 I only stated 1000 watts because I was using an extension cord that wasn't rated for more than 1000 watts. If found that my carburetor has red fuel filter peices in it and cleaned it out and replaced the fuel filter with a media type. I can get the full 1800 watts and I've been able to run an rv air conditioner and charge my delta pro at 1000 watts at the same time! Lol. You need to connect via Bluetooth. It's a separate way of connecting. Once you set it up then if wifi isn't available then it'll automatically change over. I did the same thing. Scared me a little when I couldn't connect when power was out lol. I have the igen4200 westinghouse btw.
Awesome!! I need to build this for my small system!!!
How come nobody will tell us if this thing will run a 1500 watt heater all night it's just the simplest question but nobody will answer
@nathanpender3353 most larger powerstations like any delta series will run a 1500 watt heater, it's just for how long. Asking if this Delta pro will run it all night is a loaded question. Here's a simple answer. Most likely not. With extra batteries. Maybe. It depends on how cold it is, how big is the space your trying to heat, how insulated is it, and how warm do you want it. A 1500w heater will consume a delta pros 3600 watt hour batter in 2.2-2.4 hours if running constantly without shutting off. If I took a 10x10x8 foot, well insulated room needing to heat to 68° and it's 35°F outside then maybe the delta pro will be able to last long enough to allow the 1500w heater to keep the room at that 68°F temperature till morning.
Just need the concrete blocks, but all else is awesome !!
Nice setup. I have never seen those brackets at HD but going to look today.
@Doc02864 amazon or most solar panel companies like renogy

Do you have a list of material you bought from home depot? Or do you have a video tutorial?
@TienTran-bi1jv 3x 4x4x12 pressure treat 2 hinges 4 L brackets 6 sets of Z brackets That's it bud. I played the 2 4x4x12s down and started mounting the panels then cut 2 pieces for the end then 2 prices left over for the legs and hinged them together. Added a piece leftover with 45° cuts for the angle. I would add 1 4x4 between the legs for more rigidity.
Window ac is much more efficient.
@AldousHuxley7 I'm sure there are alot more efficient units both window and portable acs. What other info or suggestions do you have and are as cheap as $100?
@@jaysonstebbins2539 the portables are very inefficient theyll say 8000 btu (5000 btu) because the heat doesnt vent out right. An 8000 btu window ac should use less watts and get 3000 more btu than a portable 8000 btu
@AldousHuxley7 so that's called SACC. This 12,000 btu portable is terrible because it only has a SACC rating of 7500btu. Seasonal adjusted cooling capacity.
Mine doesn’t fill the cup only 1/8 of the cup 😢
Pretty cool… pun intended
Do you have a complete video of how you did this
@rosecarter7384 no I'm sorry. I was literally just making it as I went lol. I bought the 3 sticks of pressure treat 4x4 and started mounting the panels to 2 4x4s and cut the 2 end pieces off to make the legs and added the hinges. Hope that helps.
Can I ask exactly what solar panels you have and what cables you needed to wire them , do you have a link to the panels please ?
@mrshawnwilliams1 renogy 100, hqst 100 watt. 18 panels mixed them up to keep a safe voltage. 4 to 1 branch connectors with extensions and wired 6S3P. I used about 75 feet of 10 gauge wire to the Delta pros mc4 to xt60i cable. I don't have a link unfortunately.
Thanks , I was surprised to see so many panels. All the exflow stuff just seams to show it being used with just 2 x 400 watt panels but obviously just getting 800 watts wouldn't be ideal
Hi @@jaysonstebbins2539 can you upload a video that shows your wiring from the panels to the generator? Eco’s extension cable isn’t very long so I’m wondering how you were able to get yours with so much length. Thanks for considering.
@PRocka33 the cable I have from the xt60i to my panels are 2 wires I made but you can purchase them on Amazon. 1 end of your ecoflow wire is a xt60i and the other end is mc4 which is a standard solar panel connection in which can be extended very easily by purchasing a mc4 solar cable extension. One of my videos has me talking about the wiring. I think even one of my Shorts has it as well. I'll have to do a 18 month update on this.
