The Art of the Viggen - Pilots' Preliminary Briefing | DCS World Tutorial Series
Good to see you back in the briefing room, pilot, and welcome to the new tutorial series - The Art of the Viggen. Understand some fundamental information before embarking on your training, including cockpit familiarisation and HOTAS controls.
Suggested HOTAS controls are based on the Winwing Orion 2 F-16(EX) HOTAS.
Reiver is not a hardcore milsim-er - he just likes playing the game well - if you're looking for something more authentic, please consult the flight manual.
Reiver is even worse at Swedish as he is at French.

    Great! You got the pronunciations of the Swedish words right or very close and you managed to be the first resisting joking about the AFK throttle control function :) I am also somewhat familiar with the Viggen but still finds your intro interesting and useful. I sat in a cockpit of a real Viggen last week - a crazy familiar feeling when my VR-brain met reality. So, your series comes at the right time for me being recently inspired to fly this machine again.

      @reiver1-1 I also noticed you had no warnings on touchdown - did you do something with your autopilot? I read the Chuck's guide where it's mentioned (page 90 and on). I didn't do anything special, just a mission with a single landing WP and it always triggers the warning.

    • @reiver1-1

      I suppose that would depend on how the JTAC is programmed to act in the mission editor. Off the top of my head, I can't think how a series of targets is programmed but I'm sure it is doable and I expect you would need to go through the "nine-lines" process with the JTAC in mission each time for each successive target to get them to lase.

    26:26 You can see that the Sa-6 and Sa-5 appears to be duplicate rwr contacts even though their’s only 1 of each. This most likely is because as shown in the video earlier of the RWR antenna search and blind spots, some overlap each other. This means that 2 antennas are picking up the same signal, thus giving 2 “6” and 2 “5”

  • @bongoconjo8217
    @bongoconjo8217 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I recommend to have PID over PIC because PIC can warn the other aircraft through their RWR that you are tracking them. If you fire a missile, it will automatically transfer to PIC to for the missile guidance. This also makes you have more situational awareness as you are still scanning the air. The only time I will use PIC other than missile guidance, is for the Non-cooperative recognition system, which cannot be done in PID.

      Important clarification needed regarding the elevation. The numbers are always in thousands of feet whether you are in "E" mode or "D" mode. They are never in degrees.

    • @reiver1-1
      @reiver1-1 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Perhaps I didn't explain that clearly but I do state that the numbers represent the altitude difference whether in D or E mode. With the alidade set to 10 nm, the number in E mode gives a good approximation of the angle in degrees (as well as the altitude difference), given the bracket of altitudes the radar's scan cone will be covering, which can be confirmed with the inverse tangent trigonometric function. This is obviously a useful rule-of-thumb feature. 👍
