- Develop an understanding of beyond-visual-range air-to-air combat in the Mirage 2000C by learning about the fundamentals of the Matra Super 530D semi-active radar homing missile. Learn about its parameters and employment when performing interception, combat air patrol or air combat manoeuvres.
CLARIFICATION:
The Super 530D Fire Selector (AUT) Switch on the PPA panel is non-functional in the version of the Mirage 2000C as modelled in DCS World. Its inclusion is for information only.
This tutorial takes place on the Sinai map in DCS World.
Reiver uses the English variant of the Mirage 2000C cockpit, because he is an uneducated barbarian.

I would like to add few comments to this excellent tutorial. First the missile was a Matra one but the seeker was manufactured by Electronic Marcel Dassault (EMD) that became then Electronique Serge Dassault (ESD) then Dassault Électronique (DE) then merged with Thomson CSF RCM to become Thales. EMD was also making wide part of the RDI Doppler radar. As an EW engineer at EMD I was involved in many jamming trials against the S530D.
Second, the hostile RWR can effectively detect the RWS, TWS and STT modes of the M2000C RDI and displays symbology according to the level of danger. However, and differently for example of the F4E radar that trigs a dedicated CW illuminator to guide the Sparrow, the RDI does not trigs a special guiding mode for the S530D. There is so no means for the hostile RWR to know it has been shot. It can just assume that being illuminated in STT, il would probably be shot in a near future.
Third, the hostile RWR displays the bearing of the RDI intercepted radar émission to the pilot but the fired fox 1 missile follows a proportional navigation guidance law once fired and as the on board seeker is fully passive (it is only a very sensitive receiver), there is absolutely no means to electronically know its position particulately if the shooter makes a defensive maneuver and place the hostile in the limit of its RDI radar gimbals. It’s so impossible to notch the missile but only the radar. Of course missile can be eventually seen by eyeball MK1 sensor but this is very much linked to weather and clouds. Hostile passive IR Missile Warning System, if any, is unable to locate an AA missile shot at 18NM in hot configuration. Active Missile Approach Warning System will be capable but is not implemented on fast aircraft even while one has been designed for the EF2000 for many reasons.
Finally, there is a mode not implemented by razbam which could allow some kind of fire and forget, it is the Home On Jam (HOJ) were the missile can build its off boresight data and guide using its monopulse receiving slant antenna to reach the angular position of the maximum signal received from a noise jammer located on the target. Once again thanks for your tutorial which is one of the best I have red in English about the M2000.

Everything here is correct of course, except lack of HoJ. It’s definitely implemented.
We know about RWRs that should not be able to distinguish a 530D launch from regular PSIC. We are limited by DCS API and it’s unfortunately not possible yet.
Thanks for this comprehensive set of tuts for what is most certainly my favorite aircraft in DCS. In VR this aircraft is just phenomenal. I thought I knew the M2000 fairly well but having worked through all the videos up to this I can confirm I learned so much more with some really awesome gems of info.

Great video, as always. Love the Art of the Mirage series. One clarification: According to the Manual, the AUT function is not implemented for the RDI radar. In your employment, it probably wasn't necessary to have AUT selected as long as TOT was selected as conditions were already good, the "CONSENT to LAUNCH" was unnecessary as constraints were met when the trigger was pressed.
S530 FIRE SELECTION BUTTON (Touche de sélection tir automatique/manuel): Selects either the automatic or manual fire mode for the Super 530D missiles:
• AUT (Automatique - Automatic): The weapon fire command act as a weapon release consent, the aircraft fire the missile when the condition provides a good probability of kill
• MAN (Manuel - Manual): The weapon fire command fires the missile when pressed.
This button is a remnant of earlier 2000C RDM versions and has no effect in our 2000C S-5 RDI. NO FUNCTION

I don't often fly the missions so I'm not massively familiar with them. My advice - get yourself onto a Cold War-themed PVE multiplayer server such as Flashpoint Levant and look for some MiGs!
I highly recommend the Baltic Dragon campaign top gun in the Nevada if you own this map otherwise the campaign delivered with the module are also very good
Excellent tutorial. Didnt know about AUT option for "conditional release". Cool. I think lately the radar will switch automatically to PSIC mode under 20 miles or maybe a bit less.
Actually, the AUT function isn't modelled in DCS World as the version of the Mirage 2000 modelled has a radar that is not compatible with it. Just included for flavour.

The AM-39 Exocet missile was compatible exclusively with the Mirage-2000EGM of the airforce of the country of my origin ( Greece ) and it wasn't part of the Mirage-2000C arsenal ( the French Navy : Marine Nationale used to use this missile with their Super Etendard carrier based aircraft ). The Mirage-2000C was mainly an interceptor and it wasn't compatible with laser targeting pods so as to exploit the features of the AS-30L air-to-ground missile. The missile in cause was deployed with the two seated variand Mirage-2000D as well as the upgraded Mirage-F1CT of the French Air-force ( I wonder whether the Mirage-F1EE delivered by AERGES will feature this missile in the updates to come or whether ths Spanish Mirage-F-1's hadn't got that property at all ). The AM-39 Exocet missile was made compatible with the Iraqi Mirage-F1EQ ( they had paid an extra charge for the upgrade ), but AERGES limits their Mirage-F1E to the standard of the one of the Spanish Air-force unfortunately. Some export variants of the Mirage-2000E must have been compatible with laser targeting pods and the AS-30L missile, because they have been exported several countries. The 20 Egyptian Mirage-2000E ( early delivered pre-production model with M-53-5 engines and RDM radar ) were delivered with laser targeting pods and AS-30L missiles, and there are more Mirage-2000E variants acquired by India, Greece ( never used them for ground attack - no laser pods acquired ), United Arab Emirates, Peru, but RAZBAM limits its module to the Mirage-2000C variant of the French Air-force.
