As a former Speech Language Pathologist, the way she speaks is so forced to try to speak like a native yet in her struggle to have an American accent, it sounds funny like the way she says 'different' as 'dafrent'...focus on grammar and you are halfway there. I actually find her funny and quite embarrassed for her as she thinks she is perfect - in short, she is doing this for the almighty dollar. She took TOEFL twice, it just means she has struggles with the English language.

This reminds me of how I once went to an english course that was a level down to me, and our teacher tought as geneva in english isn't zheneva, but genf [andguess what, it's the german word for geneva, which is another langauge she's learnt]. that was the same teacher that told my mom that there's no point in learning german because english is everywhere [though the context was different, still, a very bad claim]

What you haven't considered is that many people speak nasally in their own language as well. She was nasal years before moved to the states. She did an excellent job learning english on her own but the nasal thing is her own natural speech pattern and not some brilliant detail recognition on her part.

She is a youtuber making money out of teaching English even though sometimes she is wrong. I think the bad think here is She claimed to teach you like a native. I am Brazilian , so how can I claim to teach others to speak like a native? That is her biggest mistake, if she wanted to teach and make money it is up to her but don't claim you can teach like a native.

Your opinion was very spot on . I always think like that if someone I give preference when the subject is language, these are the dictionaries. Because they are made by academics, not only one person but groups of professors . So stick to the dictionaries.

It's actually the best to combine everything. I've noticed that people have problems with correct grammar structures and they are less able to speak or when they speak they do it incorrectly because they didn't have much practice. They know advanced words but they don't know to use them correctly in a sentence.

People in the comment section simply didn't get your point. It's okay that they correct others, but it's not correct to praise good points. That's why it is toxic. If someone critics them, they get offended and immediately delete a video where they made a mistake(the one with gerunds) or they make a new video attacking that person. I personally have a negative vibe especially when people who are not knowledgeable don't see their mistakes. They seem pretty autocratic. The additional negative aspect of their channel is that they don't approve constructive critisism. Worst of all, they go that far to say that Cambridge, Oxford dictionaries are wrong and they are right. To say that group of people who have phd degrees and are specialists in their field are wrong, you really need to question your existence and role as a teacher. I hope that the day will come when professionals will gather together to discuss why Kevin was wrong about the dictionaries..

I like that they target both natives and non-natives. What I don't like is that they discuss dictionaries as being wrong but dictionaries deal with standardized language not their variety of language. They claim that we say /ˈpɪ.tʃɚ/ instead of /ˈpɪk.tʃɚ/. Because they say it that way, doesn't seem correct as it is not a standardized variety. If you want, I can provide a link to the video. How do you pronounce the word picture?

First things first if I was a teacher I would only collaborate with a professional, do not need to be a native but a professional teacher, and if the professional is a native it means it is much more reliable . I live in the UK since 2009 and I am still struggling a lot with certain words , expressions , idioms and all that is about a language that is not my first language.

Despite the fact that I am a Filipino, I have expanded my linguistic repertoire to include American English, spoken with the distinctive accents of Brooklyn, Long Island, and Northeast New Jersey, displaying varying degrees of rhoticity in my semi-formal verbal exchanges. For example, I have pronounced the likes of _coffee_ [ˈkʰɔɞ̯fɪ̟i̯], _chocolate_ [ˈt͡ʃɔɞ̯kɫ̪̥ɪ̈t̪], _water_ [ˈwɔɞ̯ɾ̪ɚ], _gratitude_ [ˈɡɹ̠ˤʷæɾ̪ɘˌt̪ˢʊ̠u̯d̪], _revival_ [ɹ̠ˤə̞ˈvɑ̈(ː)ɪ̯vʊ̞̆ɫ̪], _Florida_ [ˈfɫ̪̥ɒ̈ɹ̠ˤ(ɨ̞)ɾ̪ə̞], _hurricane_ [ˈhʌ̈ɹ̠ˤɘˌkʰe̞ɪ̯n], _strong_ [ˈʃt͡ʃɹ̠̊ˤʷɔɞ̯ŋ], _armor_ [ˈɒ̈ɹˤmɚ], _because_ [bɘˌkʰɔɞ̯z], _Secaucus_ [ˈsɪ̟i̯kʰɔɞ̯kə̝s], _dodgeball_ [ˈd̪ɑ̈(ː)d͡ʒˌbɔɞ̯ɫ̪], _marriage_ [ˈmæɹˤɪ̈d͡ʒ], _Boston_ [ˈbɔɞ̯st̪ɨ̞̆n], _everybody_ [ɛvɹ̠ˤɨ̞ˈbɑ̈(ː)ɾ̪ɪ̟i̯], _afterthought_ [ˈe̞æ̯̈ft̪ɚˌθɔɞ̯t̪], _quarter_ [ˈkʰʍɔɹˤɾ̪ɚ ~ 'kʷʰoɹˤɾ̪ɚ], _showbusiness_ [ˈʃɔ̈ʊ̯bɪ̈znɪ̈s], and _bright side_ [ˈbɹ̠ˤʷɐ̞ɪ̯t̪‿ˈˈsɑ̈(ː)ɪ̯d̪]. With all due respect, it is a source of confusion for me that not every New Yorker speaks with the strong accent you have observed. The International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) serves as my primary study aid in my pursuit of understanding numerous regional American English accents. I would like to emphasize that I am a self-taught person in this context.

As a foreigner Marina speaks really well. I would like to be such fluent and confident in English. But she will always stay a foreigner and she can't represent the native American speakers. She will make grammar or pronunciation mistakes, her accent will be different because she comes from a foreign country. I'm English learner and I wish to clearly understand other people and be understood trough my speech. But even if I was really good I wouldn't have boldness to play a role of a perfect native English teacher.
