As an English learner, I prefer to watch content created by native speakers to improve my language skills. Recently, while watching Maria's channel, I noticed several mistakes. I'm grateful to Kevin and Lisa for pointing out these errors made by certain "English teachers." By learning from these mistakes, I can avoid repeating them myself. In today's online landscape, there is a lot of misinformation, especially regarding pronunciation and grammar. If people choose to learn from these "so-called" teachers, they may inadvertently adopt incorrect language habits. It's unlikely that anyone will correct them, as I've experienced living in an English-speaking country where native speakers rarely correct pronunciation or grammar. I appreciate Kevin and Lisa acting as guides for those of us genuinely interested in improving our English skills.
@@sskp6168 I would criticize that Americans don't speak as robotic and monotone as Kevin does in his videos. So he is wrong too. Lets now make 1731 videos, pointing that out, just like he points out every single sentence where Marina doesn't use "a/an".
@@LS-Moto Omitting articles and mispronouncing the English words are serious mistakes and if you think otherwise, you’ve got serious issues with the language.

Kevin n Liza are great teachers we learned so many things from that their knowledge teaching style the way they explain every things is just great English for every one is a great channel for English learners I really love their teachings style they deserve great credit
I don't think they are toxic towards Marina or other ESL teachers. They are pointing out the mistakes that are often overlooked. They correct pronunciation in a way I'm really starting to see the difference. I think they do want to help others make fewer mistakes and not to spoil pronunciation or language intuition from the beginning because of the many, and sometimes quite significant, mistakes that Marina makes
Have you been shadowbanned by them just because they don't accept criticism? I have. And how do you I know that? By seeing people abruptely not replying to my questionings and using another account to make sure my comments were not visible to others...
@@davidribeiro5254 I have had that happen with Hadar when I sent her audio proof that her pronunciation of one word was not correct. I don’t recommend her anymore. I just recommend those who make less mistakes and are willing to admit if they make a mistake. Dave has admitted a mistake or miscommunication so he is a good example for others ❤
they are toxic because their banners are so defiant. They use very very strange images and photos for their banners. For exampes "Stop learning incorrect english" and they pinned the picture of a guy screaming. I constanly think "Is it for real?" when I see those banners. We all make mistakes every day. There is a clear word for such a person - a grammar nazi is a pedant who compulsively criticizes or corrects people’s grammar mistakes, typos, misspellings, and other errors in speech or writing.
@@i1nostranec332 We all make mistakes, true but we are not all teaching the English language. What part of it you don’t get it!? One should know the subject in depth in order to teach otherwise choose a different profession. Teaching is a serious profession, just because you can communicate in language, in any language, doesn’t give you a right to teach. That’s WRONG.

You are trying to seem so naive but nope you are just going against him. Kevin and Liza are not toxic. They have their style: catch mistakes from other teachers and explain how to fix those. I actually love it because they don't criticize the person teaching but criticize only the mistake.
Victoria, listen carefully to what Dave said. There are good things they did. That said, their entire content shouldn't be based solely on calling out other teachers' mistakes. Because it might compromise the entire NNA segment of the ESL teaching community. There are slew of good non-native teachers of English.
Nonetheless, they focus on each freaking mistake. I watched them a lot, and saw absolutely no videos with recommendations of great English teachers. No, they don't need to suggest anything because they can just make and make content every day, seeing how other toxic people praise you for hating others. I will not deny, though, they teach a ton of vocab in their short videos.
@@davesenglishBecause they are the best and they are not nitpicking; they are aiming for perfection. I am the same when I study a foreign language. Linguamarina is pure scam, I don’t understand why you’re doing videos in her favor, really!? It’s ridiculous.
For us! Non native speakers and English learners this is the best opportunity and advantage to learn from such a huge amount of different opinions and channels! Thansk Dave for your prospective! In my personal opinion learning from mistakes is a very useful tool for us
Learning from mistakes is a very useful tool? Are you sure? Just make sure a Kevin isn't in front of you, 'cause he's gonna be upset. Practice is what you need.
Yes, learning from anothers mistakes or our own is great; but that is not the topic here. The correct usage is not presented by those who are non-native speakers of whichever language! Learn from ONLY native speakers. You will be glad you did!! ❤
English for everyone is the best channel which I have ever seen. I learnt lots of stuff from this channel. They never claimed that only they are right and everyone else is wrong, they just prevent us from learning incorrect English. To sum up, I don't see anything toxic about a channel who exposes wrong teaching of non-native English instructors, but in fact it's been really helpful for us. I have a question for you, " is it good to learn English from Kevin, Bob the Canadian, Emma, Greg and other native English teachers or from Marina, a western European lady, Maddy, an Italian guy.. . So we can say English for Everyone is an absolutely outstanding channel because they have done things that nobody has done. Hope everyone gets my point!
I don't think that was toxic. Not once did they criticize those youtubers, they just said "it is not correct". Personally, I really enjoy watching them correct others' mistakes, especially when those are minor mistakes as it helps me understand more deeply about the language and use it more effectively.
@@jaxxon98 There is a difference in being negative and not being positive. Kevin and Liza may not be so positive but that doesn’t make them automatically negative. I know Dave can understand that and my message is mostly for him to think about. ❤
Liza (one of the co-creators of English for No-one) was born and raised in russia. And what you see in their videos is a classic example of the soviet approach to teaching foreign languages in schools: great focus only on mistakes, where everything is discussed publicly with mandatory pointing out whose mistakes are being corrected and occasional ridicule; praise and encouragement are considered unimportant.
That is so interesting to watch how more and more small and unpopular channels are trying to join the beef between Marina and English for everyone and gain some popularity out of it.
So what's the point of your channel? I think she is totally right about you trying to become just a little bit more popular thanks to Marina and Kevin.
@@WWHFPSFLUENCY We have Kevin and Liza to expose the mediocre teachers Who are only interested in making money rather than helping people who really want to learn English. So, Liza and Kevin's channel is not toxic. No matter what others say.
@@davesenglish Popularity is there yet it is just a side effect. I am hoping more people will come to realize that what is important is the correct language usage. Pronunciation is number one for me so I am all for Kevin and Liza personally. Of course there are others but the Native Speakers should have the upper hand❤
I've watched several of your videos, I've subscribed to your channel, and I really appreciate your work. But in this video about the critical attitude of Kevin and Liza towards Marina, I think they do that because in the beginning of each video they say: "Welcome to English for everyone where we practice a real-life American English." Marina also says that she practices American English pronunciation. So, it isn't important what are British, Canadian or Australian English pronunciation or words since they precisely talk about American English. My point is that Marina really makes a lot of basic mistakes, and she misleads millions of subscribers.
The Dave's Englisgh is a channel of my fast attraction and fast dissapointment. I got known this channel with video about Kevin and Lisa channel and going to finish and subscribed channel with video about their channel. At that point of time it was interisting and intrigue, but right know it's just makes my guts puke! And this really pitty just because he came across a sane and smart person! But he's absession and chase for clickbates just ruins everything!
Fun fact: We don’t say “maths” because we historically treat “mathematics” as singular. The word “mathematics” can be treated as either plural (the various equations and formulas) or singular (the field of study). In Europe it is treated as plural and so the ‘s’ is preserved.
Kevin and Liza get a feedback from their viewers who absolutely love the Marina videos. I don’t mind Kevin’s nitpicking. I love what’s correct. I don’t mind them correcting anyone as long as they don’t make mistakes themselves. And Kevin does have a sense of humor. It’s not for everyone but it’s there.
They don't accept pointers from others. They don't admit their mistakes pointed out by others and they even ignore what dictionaries say but they want to slaughter non-native English teachers for their tiny mistakes in an effort to grow their channel. Duh. They are toxic people.
Kevin and Liza are great teachers, they have never criticised or insulted anybody. They just point out mistakes that so called teachers make, you know, making mistakes is ok, but when you position yourself as a real teacher, like those youtubers position themselves, making mistakes is not acceptable, so i fully support Kevin and Liza for correcting even the smallest mistakes. And you have to remember that Kevin and Liza teach American English, they often point that out, so some mistakes that they correct may not be mistakes in British English. Marina Mogilko positions herself as a teacher of the english language from the USA, not UK, that's why saying "maths" is wrong, i bet she doesn't even know the difference between these two variants of english. And for her as "a real teacher" making mistakes is unacceptable.
I love Kevin and Lisa. English for everyone" is the best channel for learning English. I have never seen such a great explanation. His lessons where he criticizes Marina are very easy to remember. I think it's a great strategy. You must have been asked by Kris Americos ( Marina's friend) to criticize Kevin and Lisa 😀.
Yeah, I was asked by Kris. Seriously, where do you nutcases come up with this crazy sh*t? Seems like in some parts of the world, everyone is into conspiracies.
Somebody had to do it !! Somebody has to take some kind of action to mitigate the caos irresponsible creators are provoking. They profit on that and don’t seem to care the misinformation they’re creating. I, as a non English native speaker, teach ESL in my own country. The amount and level of confusion those content creators make! Having to filter the creators that my students follow! My God!. If there are channels committed to misinform, I’m thankful there is an “English for Everyone” committed to reverse it. Not everyone has the courage to do this. Dave, “toxic” was a little too much to title this video.
Dave, I totally disagree with your message. Kevin and Liza are doing a great job, because they are showing ON A REGULAR BASIS that lingua marina and other "fake" teachers are making numerous mistakes. To make one or two videos warning people about bad teachers won't do the job!!! To be honest they are doing a great service to all those Marinas and Hadars to make them understand that they have to hire a person to proofread their videos. They are knocking on the door multiple times and I absolutely support them because by doing so they raise awareness of false education and of potential loss of money for false couses of English. They have my full support! It does not demotivate students to study English, it makes students look for reliable sources of information and for knowlegeable teachers. It seems to me that you are obsessed with tolerance in America and in Europe. There should be zero tolerance to teaching wrong English, wrong French, wrong math etc., because this tolerance leads to the tolerance of a low quality product. Let's be honest you don't want to visit a dentist who was trained by somebody who has same level in medicine as Marina has in English.
I think Katerina, you didn't get Dave's message here. Well, I am ok if someone points out the severe mistakes of a self-called teacher. But the last couple of videos were more like they were haunting her for every little mistake she made, even though they (Kevin) weren't right in some cases. I am not a fan of Marina because she has made more severe mistakes, and she sells her product based on those mistakes - I agree she has crossed the ethical line here. Peace!
Katerina, Be concise, Question: Would you prefer a conversation with Dave or Kevin? Dave will understand that you're not a native, and some mistakes will come up, these mistakes will be corrected with practice. Kevin will correct you every tiny mistake and you will have an upset person in ftont of you.. Here in the States are millions of Kevins and say: "I don't get it" 'cause an "a" is missing. By the way, Have you seen Kevin's certificate to teach English?
They do make mistakes as well, they are humans at the end of the day, but most of mistakes they are talking about...well Marina repeats them all the time...like "explain you" instead of "explain to you" or omitting articles. Articles are important in English. Take away all the articles and it won't be English anymore. To be honest I find it really astoshing that she is making so many mistakes taking into account that she is "teaching" for 6 years. If you are in any job for 6 years you are naturally becoming more professional. Here we see an incredible example of getting more professional as a youtuber but less professional as a teacher. I find the fact that she does not want to proof read her videos also very astonishing, because...well in my humble opinion...it gives you a moral satisfaction to perfect your skills and to sell a better quality product (well, she sells her English course as far as I know). When I watch Marina's videos I see someone who only cares about money, but not of the quality of her product, which is also strange. She said she made a million $ a year ago or something. To hire a proof reader would cost you what..max 30000 $ a year. Cannot she aford this? I mean you can still earn your money, but you can deliver a better quality product. Plus you are going to grow professionally which makes you feel great! I personally like Kevin and Lisa because they raise awareness of poor quality product and knock on the "youtube teachers' morals": "Hey guys you can do better than that. Please put some effort. Make your product better.
@@davidgutierrez248 I'll you the truth, if I want to learn a language I'll never go on youtube first. I'll buy a texboook of reputable authors. I'll use youtube only as a supplementary instrument. By the way if you teach a student, you're absolutely right here you have to be tolerant to some of his/her mistakes in order not to make him/her loose enthusiasm to learn. But if you teach a future or a practising teacher here you have a different level of tolerance of course. Teacher should learn much harder than a student. And teacher should not make mistakes of elementary level on a regular basis.
Strongly agree. Watching them for some time is going to make you toxic as well. Mistakes are absolutely okay. Everyone, including me, makes mistakes all the time. Yes, it seems like I turned from a lover to a hater of their channel. And, personally, I can't watch TH-cam filling with more and more "teachers" who criticize/point out other "teachers'" mistakes.
Years ago when many websites were still in their primitive form, I saw a book with a title like "Web designs that you should avoid", which shows people stuff they shouldn't do when designing websites. So I don't see anything wrong if people like Kevin and Lisa show and correct mistakes that Marina or others were/are making in their videos (and boy are there a load of them!). They really make for good learning materials.
Marina did a collaboration with Lucy in which they were teaching the American pronunciation vs the British. Marina said “pro-CESS”. Then Lucy corrected her. Marina didn’t know the American pronunciation of this word. Fact.
Sometimes they make useful videos with good points in them, not necessary mistakes correction ones. Sometimes they make nitpicky videos. 💁🏼♀️ But you're right Dave, it won't hurt to make positive videos as well once in a while.
@@davesenglish Lisa and Kevin have the necessary skills to teach English in all grammatical structures , focusing on pronunciation which is something most non-native speakers appreciate. Their explanations are clear and concise, as a result, I have learned a lot from them. Especially, from the mistakes that other teachers of English make.
English for Everyone is the best website for perfecting your English. They correct not only the non-native English teachers, but also the native ones like Ariannita la Gringa. Remember, they teach AMERICAN English, not British English. They are not toxic at all.
I disagree with you on this one. I do not see them as toxic at all. English for everyone has become a regular class on my commutes. I care to learn English in a correct way and pronounce words as they should be pronounced. Their critic videos are excellent.
I'm learning English, but I usually don't watch boring teacher videos. I prefer to watch interesting podcasts with native speakers and learn new words. Because every teacher thinks he's always right
I think you can focus on channel on the things you're more interested in. English For Everyone helps us correct mistakes. I don't care if they're not interested in making positive videos, all I need is to improve my skills, and that's an effective way to do it.
I think English for everyone is good, they corrected those non-native teachers. Some people felt irritated to be corrected although they've made a lot of mistakes. I can't imagine if someday they really correct Dave english's mistakes. EFE taught a lot, but Dave english talked a lot.
I think you're right on the money with this video Dave! I'm neither a subscriber of "Linguamarina" nor of "Englisch For Everyone." In fact, there are a lotta awesome teachers out there who don't need to rely on picking on others in order to boost resp. pusht their ego. Although correcting mistakes seems quote reasonable per se, the almost pathological obsession of "English For everyone " - when It comes to nit-picking is downright pathetic. Especially, when one takes into account that the majority of folks only come across said channel BECAUSE of Marina's popularity. That, in itself, speaks volumes. Without criticizing Marina, who are Kevin and Liza? Also, they shouldn't get carried away as they're not perfect themselves: People who live in glasshouses shouldn't throw stones. I got this negative vibe when I watched one of their videos; they don't cater to the appropriate "learning mindset" of Englisch learners: There's like zero encouragement & positivity. Rather, it's all about negativity. This attitude is indeed toxic - I couldn't agree more. These are just my two cents which I somehow felt the urge to share ;-). Thanks for sharing this enlightening video with us! You have a good one.
If you want to be a critic, then go with Dave. If you want to learn correct English, go with Kevin and Lisa. It's as simple as it is. Dave and his followers keep criticizing while Kevin stays deaf to their criticisms leveled at himself and keeps moving on and on and on. Go ahead and make up your mind, buds.
@@EDP2500Are you aware of the fact that the channel "English for Everyone " is based 95% on criticism? Just saying. Also, I don't wanna boast or anything, but I'm not a "learner" of English anymore. I'm just diving into GenAm English content to keep myself surrounded with the language. Furthermore, I'm not buying this strict binary resp. juxtaposition of criticizing vs. learning 'proper ' English. Given that the criticism is CONSTRUCTIVE, I don't see any internal contradiction between these two.
At first I liked their videos, cause I knew about Marina, but I haven't watched enough of her videos to doubt her teaching skills, so the amount of mistakes Kevin & Lisa exposed was surprising to me. But eventually they started to do videos about even tiny little mistakes. And Kevin's coldness also kinda adds to it. It's literally the worst fear of every non-native; you do a little mistake like mispronouncing a word or forgetting an article and you get such a cold and harsh response to your mistake. At this point it looks like they're obsessed with Marina. Yes, she does the wrong thing, but exposing her once or twice would be enough. I don't wanna make up some theories, but as a Russian native myself, I know how harsh Russian natives can be about other Russian natives' accents or skills in a foreign language. So since the exposure of Marina was a Lisa's idea (that's what she said herself in a response video to Hadar's one), it kinda makes sense to me, that Kevin&Lisa channel targets her over and over again, mainly because she's a Russian native speaker, that dares to teach partly incorrect English
No matter how many videos Kevin and Lisa release about her, it will never be enough. She makes HUGE money by cheating. She is a fraud. She must be exposed
I agree with you. People are scared to speak because they may be criticised. It's OK as a teacher and necessary to correct others' mistakes, but at some point it's like man, everyone lives as he wants to. Doing a criticism of every Marina's video is exaggerated.
I agree 100%. One thing is to teach the wrong word or way to express yourself in English, but another thing is to pick on teeny tiny bits. I mean the US is a huge country - phonetics varies from state to state and more. Or sometimes there were even videos where they corrected and made mistakes. Like for instance the word 'jewelry' and the word 'tool' dont have the same sound, but Kevin was correcting another teacher about it. However, I also dont support when Marina Mogilko teaches wrong phrases like 'happy 18 years' and so on.
Thank you Dave. It's so important topic, because toxic teaching methods can demoralize students and make learning English feel like a chore rather than an enjoyable process. Fear of Speaking: Students may become afraid to speak in class due to the fear of making mistakes, hindering their progress in speaking fluently. Limited Creativity: Toxic teaching often focuses on rigid rules and rote memorization, leaving little room for creativity and natural language expression. Stifled Confidence: It can lead to low self-esteem and a lack of confidence in students, preventing them from using English confidently in real-life situations. Narrow Focus: Toxic teaching may prioritize test scores over practical language skills, resulting in students who excel on exams but struggle to communicate effectively. Lack of Engagement: Boring and uninspiring teaching methods can lead to disengaged students who are less likely to retain what they've learned. High Stress Levels: Excessive pressure to perform perfectly can lead to high levels of stress and anxiety among students. Limited Critical Thinking: Toxic teaching may discourage critical thinking and problem-solving skills, focusing solely on prescribed answers and structures. Short-Term Success, Long-Term Failure: While students may achieve short-term success in exams, they may lack the ability to use English practically in real-life situations. Negative Impact on Love for Learning: Ultimately, toxic teaching can sour students' love for learning and language acquisition.
You’ve said a lot without showing that Kevin and Liza are doing anything toxic. Do you realize that being toxic is being poisonous. Please describe how Kevin or Liza are poisoning English language learners. That definition might better suit what Marina and others like her are doing. ❤ We will wait for your reply. Thanks!
In the internet you can find researches about toxic teaching, for example: "A teacher who has a criticizing attitude Criticizing is a negative trait. There is no such thing as positive criticism. Something negative cannot bring any sort of positive effect. A teacher who appreciates every little effort of students is the one that motivates them and helps them to excel in their performance. On the other hand, a toxic teacher criticizes her students even if they are trying their best to improve their performance as much as possible."
@@brain_respect_and_freedom Kevin is neither teaching nor criticizing those who teach incorrect English to learners. Kevin is trying to help learners be aware of what is correct to say. It would be irresponsible to turn a blind eye to those who mislead learners into using incorrect English. As a teacher, Kevin should not criticize his students for speaking incorrect English. As a responsible native English speaker, Kevin is doing a great job as a guiding beacon.
People were debating about errors in English teaching. One group insisted that there's only one best book for learning English and a singular way to speak American English. The second group emphasized the debate over who can effectively teach English, arguing for native speakers exclusively. Amidst this discussion, the question arose: if there's only one way to teach English, why not have just one workbook? The idea emerged that diversity is a powerful force for developing something new. Languages evolve, and learning from various perspectives with an open mindset can be enriching. Acknowledging that everyone makes mistakes, the notion surfaced that making mistakes should never be a reason to humiliate others.
I WAS WAAAITING FOR THE CLIP WITH "CROISSANT" HAHAHA I even left a comment on their channel below that video saying that it's just a meme from Tiktok and not Marina's real pronunciation. I was laughing out loud 🤣🤣 It's so ridiculous of them
Here's my comment, I am a positive guy so I just simply learn from Kevin therefore from Marina (even thou I've never watched any of her videos) and also I learn from you Dave, so let's rock n' roll, you all continue to do what you do and that's ok folks.
I love the fact that, unlike Merriam Webster, you are aware that some of the words (and spellings) frequently labelled as 'British' are in fact common everywhere in the English speaking world outside of North America. And, as you said, even Canada sometimes differs from the USA. Is it important? Well, it is if it gives learners the impression that the non-American word is just used in Britain if it's also the word used in Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa etc
In one of their videos Kevin said that he would be much more indulgent to Marina If she didn't present herself as a know-it-all teacher who's on the same level as a native. And let's not forget that she's not just a blogger, but the owner of a language school she opened with a grant from the US government.
Look at the type of English she teaches and call a shovel a shovel. It's undeniable that she has been teaching incorrect English to those who are unaware of it, which is crystal clear. The fact that she is the owner of a language school in the US doesn't make her mistakes right.
And regarding articles... Man, they do it not to humiliate Marina, but to teach us to speak correct. It's not always obvious thing whether we should put an article or not, for example 22:11 as a non-native English speaker I doubted whether the word "time" is countable.
Thank you very much Dave for your great effort in trying to be as much objective as possible. 🙏 That being said, I consider all this "drama" in the English teaching/learning on TH-cam to be a great educational (or educative) tool lol for all the non native users of the English language. It is also quite entertaining to be honest lol. I think it depends on those who are consuming it and what kind of mission they are considering a medium/platform to fulfil towards them : it’s a sword of double edge. Overtime, the media in general and TH-cam in particular have evolved to become more entertaining than educational because to be honest, it seems like the clickbaiting works the most with entertaining stuff. Beast). At the end of the day, most of the TH-camrs in the English teaching/learning genre are being entertainers because entertainment is a very lucrative business and works best on TH-cam and other social media as well. So, very few people are or remain actual educators or teachers like Dave. Please keep it up Dave!👍 By the way, I loved your conversation with Kris Amerikos. 😊
I would say that Kevin is right in the sense that he is trying to teach her how to teach American English. Kevin and Lisa are adopting a constructive criticism because they see that Marina is continuing to make errors without assessing her products. She should refer to the American specialists in order to post valid contents. Why not? She is a non native speaker of American English and someone should guide her even implicitly. Kevin and Lisa do that job. So, let's give them the benefit of the doubt Dave.
THANK YOU Dave for this video! I totally agree with you! I had a feeling that they've gone too far with such videos. At first I thought they're doing a good job but with each of Kevin's video I strated to feel they ARE toxic. They demotive to speak, they ARE too strict. I'm glad I am not alone here.
And another question, Dave. At least in any video from Marina, did you see at least a drop of regret? Exclusively excuses, with sarcasm, direct attacks on those who expose her, that their English is boring. Marina's main goal in life is loot. It's stupid, but not punishable. As long as you don't lie to your flock. Marina is a lying teacher. She deserved not only objective criticism, but also a toxic attitude towards herself. I hope English for Everyone channel will continue creating such content. And I hope it will affect Marina's lifestyle and her disgusting behaviour.
Hey Dave! Thanks a lot for a new video! I deeply respect your vantage point on the teaching process, but frankly speaking It's getting a bit irritating to listen critiques of this channels! By my humble opinion both of this channels, the same as yours of course deserve to be presented on TH-cam space. There is a million viewers with different levels of English and with different ability to pick up languages and all of them have a right to choose whatever they want. Diversity is the best thing that TH-cam can offer to the viewers! Beauty ( and the absolute truth as well ) on the eye of the beholders! Cheers and Good Luck!
They aren't toxic! They help people learn correct English. They always emphasize that there is nothing wrong with having accent or making mistakes but if you TEACH English, you take on a responsibility to do it correctly!
Agreed, but they aren't always on point. They will talk about a mistake Marina makes as far as pronunciation when the video is about grammar, thus she isn't "teaching" pronunciation. At that point, you aren't pointing out the grammar mistake, but other mistakes that the video critiqued isn't based on.
I'm especially sad now looking at their nitpicks over pronunciation. They used to be one of a few ESL channels that talked about articulation and phonetic concepts like glottal stop or stop [t]. Marina deserves to be criticized for her bad pronunciation advice (like the one where she taught people to say 'boah' instead of 'bought' because she couldn't tell the difference between an open vowel and a stop [t]). However, her accidental slip-of-the-tongue mispronunciation of 'seen' doesn't warrant any backlash. This is disgusting that Kevin and Liza treat non-native speakers this way and chastise them for literally being neurologically different when it comes to pronunciation.
I believe most of the intelligent audience would be happy to know that the illiterate scammers such as mogylko, venya, kris, and others, shut down their channels. That would be such a relief😉.
15:50 he said "maths" wasn't correct because linguamarina “represents” American English, literally every video she makes is about the USA: language, culture, universities. 15:23 "In AMERICA we don't put an s on it, it's just math"
Many Russian speaking people have some trouble with English, because they keep constantly thinking about the mistakes, they can make. So, Marina is just a good example that you will be understood anyway. Kevin and Lisa teach idioms, and another things, but they do look like Soviet teachers. Lisa seems artificial, and her smile looks pretty strange. Thanks for the video, it was very useful.
The reason why so many russian speaking people aren't that good is that college or foreign language university education either in Kazakhstan, or in Russia is stupid. They mostly do not explain little nuances of a language, therefore graduates do not feel and see logic of a language. Only escape from such a crappy situiation is to study a language not only in university, but also everywhere else
Because Marina is an "influencer blogger" ("new Russian", as we say in Russia), she needs to smile a lot and show her "success" in every video. Kevin and Lisa, on the other hand, is calm and professional, they don't need that stuff. Marina would have been an absolutely fine blogger, but she claims herself as a "teacher" and sells her expensive, but absolutely unprofessional language courses, which makes her look like a scammer
@@greenwoods798 Okay, thanks for making that clear. Marina looks pretty much as a cliché of what an American should look and sound like. If her aim is only in selling these unnecessary courses, that's bad. And even though Kevin and Lisa are too severe sometimes, their videos are useful. So, we can learn good things from different people, critiquing them sometimes, if necessary.
No question, Marina looks fabulous. But at the end of the day being a foreign student learning English whom would you choose as a teacher - Linquamarina or Kevin/ Liza? Without hesitation I would opt for Kevin/ Liza.
I'd prefer Marina because, for me, personally good character sunny disposition and are more preferable despite the small mistake she had made. Process, math, seriously??? Huuuuge mistakes, yeah
It depends on your level and purpose. If you are a teacher, definitely Kevin and Liza, but if you just want to learn and be understood, then go with Marina.
I like your channel Dave because you got balls man. Someone needs to clean this mess. But you know what, I would choose Marina any day of the week over of this 'cheerful' couple, because if I had teachers like them, I would end my language learning journey right at the start. Love your work, keep what you are doing, and all the best. We have a new sherif in town😂
I agree to a certain extent (in reference to English for Everyone). There were some pretty serious mistakes in Marina's videos that should've been addressed and kudos to them for doing that. As you said yourself teaching incorrect English, not owning up to her mistakes and making money off people who aren't aware of that shows a total lack of integrity on Marina's part. That being said I must admit thay what they are doing now is kind of getting out of hand. I watch EFE videos occasionally, their pronunciation tips are useful, but to me they seem to have found a cash cow, something that can boost the number of views and it's no longer about using the mistake as a teaching tool but trying to squeeze out anything, every little slip of the tongue and present it as a major issue. And this, as in Marina's case, also shows luck of integrity, but this time on their part

That's spot on, Dave! I see eye to eye with you on every aspect mentioned. On a side note, have you thought of starting off a community of English teachers? You give me the vibes of a community leader. I am a Belarusian who teaches English and Korean and lives in Brazil. And I am really longing for some feeling of belonging to an international community of teachers. What do you think about it?
I realike your style, Dave. I watched a couple of videos about the corrections Dave and Liz have been making, and it was because of them I discovered your channel. Honestly, I enjoy listening to your opinions about this kind of controversy, to me is the perfect way to improve my listening skills at the same I feel encouraged to keep learning. I've learned more with you and your real English in this videos than in one of 2h compilation video I found in Dave and Liza's channel😅. I love your energy and your empathy. Thanks to you I try to improve, but I not feel ashamed anymore for some pronunciation mistakes.❤ Thank you
Dave i love your videos but one error to me is too many , she is making 💰 money teaching on TH-cam so her videos shouldn't have any mistakes in every single one, so i have to agree to disagree with you, i fallow English for everyone, they are doing a great job, having said that i wish they'd show her a little less on thier videos because i don't care about the mistakes she makes, i just want to keep learning from Kevin, Liza, and from you 😉
Well, in that case I rather take my chances of learning from a native English teacher than any other none native English, so call teacher on TH-cam, greetings from Rhode Island, have a great day Dave 😊
Marina 'teaches' American English and American culture. She is not teaching British English. That's why Kevin calls out the pronunciation of math and progres. They only find faults on non native speakers....Of course...they are more prone to make mistakes...they are focused on Marina...well, unfortunaly she is the one who makes more mistakes!!!
Dave, i think you just take her wrong. She as an immigrant is in another country without any skills to make good money. Her only aim is to set there, not to live on the streets and toearn as more she can get regardless if she can/ is able to teach. It does not matter at all. It is a pure scam. Just walk in her shoes to get this idea and eveyrthing will be clear.
I've always wondered about their intentions when it comes to the videos where they mention Mariana. What you said here is spot on! As a non-native English teacher, whenever I see them singling out her videos, I feel upset because of their intentions. Like you said, Mariana should take responsibility for providing correct information, but I think she is not doing so. I agree. However, I believe how Kevin and Lisa treat her in their videos is totally unacceptable. Thank you, Dave!
Right after that video with "croissant" I was really disappointed and wrote a comment to them. It was too stupid to seriously correct that humorous French accent
Oh yeah, it's exactly how I feel about their videos. They do show and correct some sad mistake ... but in a lot of situations it's so far-fetched and made not to be helpful for learner but to emphasise their high level of proficiency. And that really looks toxic
Firstly, Dave’s English is a really nice channel which is rare nowadays. Secondly, I suppose Dave is a great teacher who had been staying on the bright side no matter of what till the last video. However, it’s not a game changer for me at all and for all of us, Dave's subscribers. Just keep it real, as you always did.
Language learning comminities have always been toxic. For many of them, it's not about teaching people, it's either about the money, or it's about their intellectual superiority. Nothing new here, unfortunately.
I don't agree with this...if a senior teacher pointed out mistakes a junior teacher makes, would you give out to the senior teacher for doing that? If she wasn't teaching others, I agree their criticism would be too much. But she's presenting herself as a teacher, literally teaching the wrong things, actually sabotaging other people's efforts to learn English. She should be criticised for every single mistake she makes. Especially huge mistakes like not being able to use articles - wtf?
Correcting people's mistakes is Toxic? Toxic would be to name call Marina, tell her she's dumb for teaching English and making tons of mistakes. Nothing wrong with pointing out mistakes. People need to be less emotional about this.
As a language learner, it's better to know what your goal is? Do you want to learn English for work? Do you want to learn English so you can talk to foreigners? Or you want to learn it because you want to move to the US. This may help you find teachers who can potentially cater to your need. It's also useful to learn other English versions such as English, Canadian English, Australian English and South Arican English (in fact there are many) although you are mainly interested in American English. How Americans pronounce schedule, for instance, is different than how British say it. Maths is a British spelling, but Americans spell it without an S. British find it's wrong to say could care less wrong, but acceptable in America.
I've noticed that Americans often say "if we would have done", which is incorrect according to grammar text books. I wonder if non-natives should copy that?
One day after your video where you mentioned Lisa's absence from EFE and your plan to talk about POC channel, guess what? Here comes Lisa with her comments about the exact channel. Apparently, you're an inspiration not only to us, English learners but also to Kevin and Lisa!
*Marina takes a breath*
*Kevin:* In America, we don't take a breath like this. We breath like that...

I've watched several of your videos, I've subscribed to your channel, and I really appreciate your work. Kevin and Liza are great teachers, they have never criticised or insulted anybody.

What about their mistakes?
I think Katerina, you didn't get Dave's message here. Well, I am ok if someone points out the severe mistakes of a self-called teacher. But the last couple of videos were more like they were haunting her for every little mistake she made, even though they (Kevin) weren't right in some cases. I am not a fan of Marina because she has made more severe mistakes, and she sells her product based on those mistakes - I agree she has crossed the ethical line here. Peace!
Katerina,
Be concise,
Question: Would you prefer a conversation with Dave or Kevin?
I am sure so is Liza. I am sure she is Russian
They teach standard American English I guess.
@@rossellaleonardi2908 I suppose so, but then it's better to point it out.
Then, go ahead and work with Marina.
Thanks!
In the internet you can find researches about toxic teaching, for example:
"A teacher who has a criticizing attitude
Criticizing is a negative trait.
16:11 that's because Marina always says she teaches the American version of English
I WAS WAAAITING FOR THE CLIP WITH "CROISSANT" HAHAHA I even left a comment on their channel below that video saying that it's just a meme from Tiktok and not Marina's real pronunciation. I was laughing out loud 🤣🤣
It's so ridiculous of them
Here's my comment, I am a positive guy so I just simply learn from Kevin therefore from Marina (even thou I've never watched any of her videos) and also I learn from you Dave, so let's rock n' roll, you all continue to do what you do and that's ok folks.
28:30 laughed my head off, she hasn’t even pronounced it herself it is a popular sound people use to make viral videos
English for Everyone is excellent and you're so wrong!!
I absolutely agree with that.
Look at the type of English she teaches and call a shovel a shovel. It's undeniable that she has been teaching incorrect English to those who are unaware of it, which is crystal clear. The fact that she is the owner of a language school in the US doesn't make her mistakes right.
Well-said.
That being said, I consider all this "drama" in the English teaching/learning on TH-cam to be a great educational (or educative) tool lol for all the non native users of the English language. Please keep it up Dave!👍
By the way, I loved your conversation with Kris Amerikos.
Kevin is the best teacher, love him ❤
I don’t give æ sħįť if they’re toxic, the only thing I care about is the quality of the content.
When you commit to teaching something and you teach it wrong, that is toxic.
And who is right?
THANK YOU Dave for this video! I totally agree with you! I had a feeling that they've gone too far with such videos. At first I thought they're doing a good job but with each of Kevin's video I strated to feel they ARE toxic. They demotive to speak, they ARE too strict. I'm glad I am not alone here.
Do you want to learn from someone who is not strict. Strict teachers make the most well educated learners. ❤

Speak for yourself!! ❤
@JuanMoreno-wo5yb you didn't get it...indian
I wonder what Kevin and Lisa would do if Marina decided to quit and close her channel... I bet they would reach out and even pay her to carry on ;-)
I believe most of the intelligent audience would be happy to know that the illiterate scammers such as mogylko, venya, kris, and others, shut down their channels. That would be such a relief😉.
Then you woke up! Never gonna happen!!😂
@@JuanMoreno-wo5yb It will, it’s gonna take time but it will.
@@lmaolol8892 I absolutely agree with you 🙏
Because Marina is an "influencer blogger" ("new Russian", as we say in Russia), she needs to smile a lot and show her "success" in every video.
Totally agree
They are not toxic. When you call someone toxic it does not make them toxic. You are the one who's toxic.
At least I do all of my English teaching legally.
@@davesenglishif you sir pay taxes that does not mean, that other people don't pay them
That part with the joke omg it’s so hilarious 🤣😂😂😂Dave please don’t stop. I think you have a talent for making such videos like this🎉
As long as they keep correcting mistakes and teaching us the correct ways to say things in English they can be toxic all they want, we don't care.
You are toxic!
She makes some huge mistakes..@@СемейнаяшколаСтупеньки
It depends on your level and purpose. If you are a teacher, definitely Kevin and Liza, but if you just want to learn and be understood, then go with Marina.
I like your channel Dave because you got balls man. Someone needs to clean this mess. But you know what, I would choose Marina any day of the week over of this 'cheerful' couple, because if I had teachers like them, I would end my language learning journey right at the start. Love your work, keep what you are doing, and all the best. We have a new sherif in town😂
My best takeway from this video is 27:38🤭 Learned something new today, Thank You!😁
You're spot on, Dave and I share your point. The rest might have their own opinion, I don't care.
Now Marina is making less and less mistakes and EFE is looking for other targets to continue this trend. New faces showed up in their channel
@@jayli1554
New faces with more mistakes! Find a native speaker of the language you want to learn and maybe find more than one native speaker. You will learn correctly from the beginning and not have to fight the bad habits you picked up from non native speakers. You will be glad you did ❤
That's spot on, Dave!
Thanks to you I try to improve, but I not feel ashamed anymore for some pronunciation mistakes.❤ Thank you
Dave i love your videos but one error to me is too many , she is making 💰 money teaching on TH-cam so her videos shouldn't have any mistakes in every single one, so i have to agree to disagree with you, i fallow English for everyone, they are doing a great job, having said that i wish they'd show her a little less on thier videos because i don't care about the mistakes she makes, i just want to keep learning from Kevin, Liza, and from you 😉
But what about the mistakes that they make?
Well, in that case I rather take my chances of learning from a native English teacher than any other none native English, so call teacher on TH-cam, greetings from Rhode Island, have a great day Dave 😊
Marina 'teaches' American English and American culture. She is not teaching British English. That's why Kevin calls out the pronunciation of math and progres.
They only find faults on non native speakers....Of course...they are more prone to make mistakes...they are focused on Marina...well, unfortunaly she is the one who makes more mistakes!!!
What accent do you have? Where were you raised if you don't mind asking?
Dave, i think you just take her wrong. She as an immigrant is in another country without any skills to make good money. Her only aim is to set there, not to live on the streets and toearn as more she can get regardless if she can/ is able to teach. It does not matter at all. It is a pure scam. Just walk in her shoes to get this idea and eveyrthing will be clear.
They also said we MUST say "Febyoo-ary", and that "Febroo-ary" is WRONG.
They are totally correct and never talk about her personality only about specific mistakes.
@@annab5728 You are 100% right!
@@annab5728 I agree. Kevin and Lisa are neutral in dealing with her errors. I think they are fine. So, let"s give them the benefit of the doubt.
Right after that video with "croissant" I was really disappointed and wrote a comment to them. It was too stupid to seriously correct that humorous French accent
They're becoming toxic. I rolled my eyes when they used a video in which Marina used a TikTok viral sound mispronouncing 'croissant'. Cringe.
That's why I prefer "Arnel's Everyday English".
There is like zero of this drama in the online Russian teaching world.
Oh yeah, it's exactly how I feel about their videos. They do show and correct some sad mistake ... but in a lot of situations it's so far-fetched and made not to be helpful for learner but to emphasise their high level of proficiency. And that really looks toxic
I've just experienced the most toxic video on this channel....
How?
So you didn't watch the whole video then. I didn't say corrections in general are toxic.
This couple enjoyed making videos correcting one mistake repeatedly 😂
Scammers like linguamarina should be banned from TH-cam for teaching mistakes. It’s awful!
I feel you. It seems to me they make content out of Marina's mistakes only 😬
One day after your video where you mentioned Lisa's absence from EFE and your plan to talk about POC channel, guess what? Here comes Lisa with her comments about the exact channel. Apparently, you're an inspiration not only to us, English learners but also to Kevin and Lisa!
Yeah,right!
