Thanks for the review. So, if you’re going to do paint correction for an entire vehicle which will you go with, assuming the paint has lots of correction required?
Great comparison! Rotaries are good, I find they tend to make a bigger mess with the compound / polish. DIY makes good stuff, Yvan has great content. Home Depot had the 15MM M18 Orbital on sale for $249 w/ a battery. Just picked one up because I’m sick of my corded Griot’s orbital.
what’s the dimensions of the labels please
DIRAC ability is worth a lot. Way improved.
Thanks for showing us the diy rotary. Not sure which channels you follow but LarryAMMO and Esoteric Detail are two great sources especially when it comes to paint correction.
yea there are alot of great channels, Obsessed Garage, the Rag Company, Ammo NYC, DIY Detail, etc. I usually recommend to anyone starting out to watch the ammo academy videos, they are excellent.
Thank you for taking the time to post this video. Quick question: Why didn't you use the jeweling pad for last portion? Thanks
I think he’s either fairly new or maybe not as experienced to paint correction and hasn’t been able to fully have his process figured out yet? Seems like he’s dedicated to this though so I’m sure he’ll be able to work things out
i was trying to compare and contrast the two different styles of machines. 1. Cut with rotary, finish with rotary 2. Cut with DA, finish with rotary 3. Cut with DA and finish with DA in the last portion i was finishing with the DA and was using the gold standard waffle pad, since the jeweling pad is specifically called the "rotary jeweling pad" that seemed to make the most sense / be in line with what most people would do.
@@WillieBeamin-t4v Ive been paint correcting for the better part of 10 years, this was just my first time using a rotary. Like I said early on I was told that DA was safer than rotary, i was always able to get great correction with a DA and never felt i needed a rotary. DIY detail has been pushing the rotary for quite a while and i wanted to see what it was all about.
@@improvedgarage that’s interesting to hear. You’ve been paint correcting for 10yrs or you Did your first paint correction 10 years ago? Curious to know how many vehicles you’ve been able to fully correct within that time frame?
@@WillieBeamin-t4v It feels like there is some attitude but context is hard in text... I'm certainly not claiming to be an expert, just explaining that I'm not "inexperienced" as you stated. Im not a professional detailer, I work in IT, i have a passion for cars and detailing, I've corrected every car I've owned in that time, many multiple times, I've also done a dozen or more for friends. Total cars? 50 is probably reasonable. Sometimes its just a simple one-step, sometimes its 2-3, this channel alone has 4 years of videos working on my cars. Again, a pro likely does more than 50 in a year, Im not a pro, just a guy in his garage trying to share his life...
Who would have to hold onto a blow gun all day😂😂
Very cool that you are open to trying new things but I think it’s always best to stick with either a da/rotary and to try and master it before moving to the next thing.
Yea I agree bouncing around when you're starting out is not the best way to learn. Im not sure how long you've followed my channel and I know you and I will never agree on what a 5" should be used for, but Ive been paint correcting with a DA for the better part of 10 years and am able to get great results with any DA. Yvan has been talking about the rotary for almost two years when most others never mention it and I wanted to see what it was all about and show people they don't have to be scared to pick one up.
@@improvedgarage definitely don’t have to be scared but they should be careful since rotary is far less forgiving. Much easier for mistakes to occur.
@@1thechosenjuan1 I definitely agree with you!
I bought the pressols for just the bottle. I put on the ik 360 sprayer heads and I think they look great. With your help I put on my own labels.
Too much grease in your gearbox. That’s why it’s stopping so fast. The housing does not need to be full to the top. You actually had grease squeezing out as you tightened the hosing basket on the machine. Only should fill it to where as you put the top on the bevel gear gets some grease on the teeth.
If the ring gear fits the pinion gear properly there’s not a lot of room between the teeth for a lot of grease; just a thin layer. What most professional retailers complain about is the quality of the grease coming stock in these machine since most are made in China and the grease often looks like plain Vasoline or very pale thin grease. There are greases available designed for gearboxes such as Stihls gearbox grease for lawn tools which are really designed for a gearbox. However any high quality automotive grease will be better than most of the original greases except in a few name brand brands. For instance Griots garage states that their polishers are all using a high end Mobil grease selected for use in this kind of tool
thank you for this!
Jeff, I had to come back to this video..... I had the regular M12 impact forever and upgraded to the Surge a few months back after all the positive feedback about it having more "control". I had always assumed this additional control was in the trigger.... but to my surprise, its actually within the driver. It really threw me off guard. Had a task recently that required a lot of use, and it was the 1st time I've had this in my hands for a while and doing more delicate work. I was caught off guard by what you called the "tapping" of the screw. As a user, it almost feels like when the head of a Phillips screwdriver bit skips and catches again. It really thru me off guard; I thought maybe something was wrong with the tool. After a bit of internet searching, I really didn't find anyone describing this feeling. I missed your description of "tapping" the first time I watched this video. It's going to take a little while to re-train my brain that the skipping/tapping you feel does not visually translate to a skipping bit.
yea, it took me building an entire metal shed to get the3 hang of it. Its really hard to explain.
Just changed my transmission fluid on my Honda passport. Noticed there were 2 plugs. Released both to drain the fluids. Noticed a different color on both. Do these vehicles have front differentials?
i haven't had to do the trans or front diff on mine, but it looks like there are 2 different systems, ATF and Front Transfer Case that are both supposed to be done at 30k miles. the auto transmission uses around 3 quarts of ATF while the front transfer case uses under 1 qt of hypoid gear oil. transfer case: www.passportforums.com/threads/diy-transfer-case-fluid-change.8326/ transmission: www.passportforums.com/threads/diy-automatic-transmission-fluid-change-atf.8363/
Hi There🖐 FLEX makes a great cordless rotary polisher. Cheers!!..😎
Thanks for posting good content. A couple of suggestions - 1) I would slow down your arm speed while polishing. As fast as your going it's more like the equivalent of 2 section passes instead of 4. 2) It would be great if you can pull the camera off the tripod so we can take a closer look at the before and after results instead of you just trying to describe the results.
Good job. One suggestion to make it easier, use the trigger lock, and hold the machine less.
Thanks for sharing all this knowledge
Dude, why are you sniffing that pad? Creepy
it smells really good ;)
Are they difficult to use? I noticed you were considerably out of breath @12:14
nope, im just out of shape.
When it stars to pull or push itself raise it 20degrees to finish your cycle so it removes that jumping when your cutting 1300-1500 rpm
I hope the new version matt has been talking about works out. I got 5 pressol last year and they have been very unreliable and I struggled to get the og labels on so they don't even look that good. I will probably wait and see if the new version is better and upgrade at some point.
What new version?
@@1thechosenjuan1 I think I have the current version. Got them about 6 months ago. Matt has been talking a lot in the podcast about a new version that should solve all the problems, we will see.
Ahhh Yvan sending everyone rotaries now
i bought mine from carsupplieswarehouse.com
Damn bro you got all the Boujee equipment
every time i buy stuff from OG i throw in a handful of extra tips. cant wait for metal ones!
Having to buy extra sprayer tips due to them constantly failing doesn’t make sense. Overall, the products Matt talks about are very good but when you consider the fact that less expensive options like IK provide similar benefit without the sprayer tip issues I don’t know why Pressols were ever offered to us. Wish all the kinks would have been fixed and worked out first before having us spend money as guinea pigs
The mini-marolex (500ml) over the iK mini for size and feel for the win, IMO.
I didn’t know they made a 500.. looks like Carzilla is the only one with them near the us, I’ll need to get some
@@improvedgarage Yeah, that's where I get them. It's so bizarre that they are not in the US as imo this is the best spray bottle overall (even tho I own 20+ Pressols as well). Love Carzilla and love them Canadiens :)
I am possibly the only person in the world who refused to buy Pressol bottles because I think they are the ugliest bottle ever made. I did buy the Marolex bottles and have had pretty good success with them. I have had 2 failures over about 3 years. The tips quit on TarX within a couple of years and Citrol will kill a tip within a couple of months, at most. When I use either of these products, I've been trying to clean the sprayers out with water before putting them away. I am not sure that is helping yet as I don't always remember to clean out the sprayes. I just bought some Tolco gold sprayers to test. I have high hopes they will help.
My Pressols have been all good and no problems….but I don’t use TarX
Utterly ridiculous. Expensive. Completely unnecessary. All things I think about the YETI setup. Also, the very reasons I'm going that route. I might just get the Grit Guard dolly set, but those 4" casters do look appealing.
Appreciate the thoughts on the sprayers. I'm probably going with IK variants mainly because I like the look better and can get them faster. First world problems and such. 😂 Take care bud ✌🏼
Really wanted to like the Pressol sprayers but I bought four of them and have had issues with three. I heard Matt saying something about stainless tips being offered soon but if that is what it takes for Pressol sprayers to work I’ll just stick with my ik sprayers.
I think that’s fair. I wish I could find something I like that just works and would look good. I really dislike the appearance of the IK but the functionality is pretty darn good.
Thanks for sharing the difference with the bottles. Have Ik's and haven't ran into a single issue. Will be picking up a pressol to test out this week. Also the ik bottle is not 500ml 16.9 oz) it's actually 591ml (20oz). Great short video.
I hope you are aware that the whole “honor the source” idea is a complete joke. You know this, right? Why would you feel the need to do that when the guy it’s coming from doesn’t even follow through with it himself?
Like I said to you last time you commented about Matt's OCD on my channel, feel free to take the drama elsewhere, I'm not interested in whatever problem you have with someone else. If i learn about something from someone, I try to support them in some way, thats it, plain and simple. If i spent my time constantly worrying about what everyone else was saying and doing this channel wouldn't exist.
@@improvedgarage sharing the fact that Vasovagal syncope is NOT ocd shouldn’t be viewed as someone starting drama.
@@RichardLongh people can have more than one thing wrong with them. Regardless it doesn’t belong in the comments section of someone else’s channel.
How do you clean the inside of the bucket? Poor design.
you would need to pull the gammaseal off, on a bucket without the gamma seal like my yeti, its not an issue. honestly i just spray a little APC in the bucket and rinse it out every once in a while.
Rubbish😂
Yea the chrome emblems really look awful. You’re right.
Thanks for taking the time to share and make a video. Thumbing-up 👍
Ideally, you want a dark color for a test panel since it will show the defects and the after results much better. A white colored panel is really hard to show swirls and defects on camera.
Personally I am enjoying the longer format vlogs! I can imagine they take quite some time to edit and get uploaded but the value I think is there. Overall seems you can knockout quite a few small things in one video while still making it a very casual/organic type of watching experience. Nice job and thank you again for the content!
Looking forward to your solar set up I think that has huge value imo. Of course I love to see your product reviews on polishers and I’m considering adding a rotary to my line up for home use.
Solar will be out soon. It’s a long story but the journey I started in February to get solar isn’t quite finished yet. It should be by the end of the month though.
100% agree with staying away from Samsung for the refrigerator. Mine lasted 13 months.
Hey Jeff, I brought my first polisher in my life from Obsessed garage MIRKA 3" cordless angled random orbit polisher but I got the 2.5 Ah kit! Going to do a 2 step on a 2001 Toyota Solara convertible. I watch your video about the batteries weights on this polisher 2.5 Ah vs 5.0 Ah . I'm think of getting LE A1000 1 inch cordless polisher after your review videos! Naples, Florida Here! 😎
awesome! Im sure youll like it.
Why on earth did you choose to buy that as your first polisher? Would have rather of gotten rupes 5” and 3”
@@1thechosenjuan1 juan, have you ever used a mirka?
@@improvedgarage sold mine a little over a year and a half to two years ago. It’s a good polisher but I am able to get the same results with my rupes. The value just isn’t there especially considering the fact that a 3” is only needed for maybe 5% of the time when doing a correction.
@@1thechosenjuan1 Youre right that a 5" is more efficient than a 3", but i think you might be missing that it doesn't matter to the guy who bought a polisher to work on his own car in his own garage.. Of course the 5" is faster, a 3" is only 36% of the surface area, but what car guy cares if they have to spend a little more time in his garage working on their car! I bought a rupes HLR75 the day it came out and sold it the day I got my mirka. Its just my opinion, as someone who isn't detailing for a living, I would pick the better user experience of the mirka every time.
What are your used paint colors?😊
Benjamin moore AF700 "storm" and 2124-10 "wrought iron" i used BM Scuff X paint in a matte finish.
The V2 model also has a nicer speed dial and probably small other improvements in power and internals.
That Dewalt impact works very well 👍
NOCO Boost Plus GB 40 is now $75.96, down from $99.95. I ordered one through your link.
Did I miss it, can you go over this at the next wash with a drying aid w/o issue?
i made a short for you. I didn't run into any issues. th-cam.com/video/mqL8Zh78J8c/w-d-xo.html
I've never had issues with P1; but, I've never used it on protected cars. It works great on unprotected paint, and even on coatings that have lost some beading. I'm thinking it could be a compatibility issue as mentioned above, it could've reacted to Drying Aid, maybe? I wouldn't use any spray and rinse sealant on a car I'll use a drying aid on, anyways.
yea i agree, my assumption was the drying aid was worn off but i need to give it the benefit of the doubt. ill do another try with the f56 which has nothing on it.
It may be a compatibility problem for you. I used P1 on a white car and was impressed with the water behavior afterwards. I didn’t notice a haze but then it’s hard to see imperfections in white. I also liked the wheel cleaner but agree it’s not the best value. Nice thorough review. Thank you.
I think what your trying to say is the product sucks
i try and be fair and give products the benefit of the doubt. it was definitely a bad experience first try though.
well now you tell me after I just bought the high output XC5.0 M12 for my right angle impact yesterday
The question to me would be is it that much better than Solution Finish at twice the price in a significantly smaller bottle. Thanks for the video 👍
we will see how long it lasts.
