How to Freeze Total Rows in Tableau
มุมมอง 60014 วันที่ผ่านมา
Freezing a total row in Excel is really easy... but in Tableau? Not quite as simple. The default behaviour of total rows in tables in Tableau doesn't include freezing. So to get a static total row, we'll need to create a workaround. We'll use a second worksheet and a sneaky calculation to help us generate the output we want. Sort a Stacked Bar Chart in Tableau from User Selection

Stacked bar charts are a brilliant visual for displaying how individual segments contribute to the overall value of a category, and how a category ranks in relation to other categories. This is a great idea! Thank you for sharing. However, I am still on my way to searching for the answer for three measures, e.g., sales (need to use currency sign), profit (currency sign but have both positive and negative data), and quantity (no dollar sign). very useful video, thank you very much! If we had wanted to transpose the dates too, to have the columns date job 1, date job 2 and date job 3. How would you have done it? on the same pivot?
You're welcome! I think I'd create a separate branch and pivot step for the dates. Then you can pivot the dates in a similar fashion and join them back on the employee id. Does that work?
Thank you very much ! I did it in the same branche, I added one transpose before the aggregation. Then i aggregated all the columns at once !

How to get Hidden bar back?
I just spent a few minutes trying out ideas and you stumped me! The only way I can find to do it is with the back button.
Hello, thanks for making this video. What happens if instead of showing a file location it says “table” and the value is not a path but more like a section of the sheet
That sounds like someone applied the Use Data Interpreter feature to a file-based data source. I suppose you'd need to reconnect to the original data source and then select the checkbox next to "Use Data Interpreter" again to recreate the same source file.
Thanks so much Eric this was absolutely brilliant! The hidden values in the filter worked like a charm using the Lookup Table Calc for my client names, however when I use other dimension filters, for instance trying to change Region, it seems to reset the Table Calc filter for the client names each time I filter to a new Region, and my screen goes blank. I am actually trying to use your technique to exclude a single client name value across multiple regions, but it's not working dynamically/interactively when regions are changed with my filter. Does this have to do with the scope of the table calculation perhaps?
Thank you! Can you manually hide them? Like add the "Client Name" field to the Rows shelf, right-click on the one you want to hide and select "Hide"?
How can I highlight both top and bottom in different colors at the same time? Without the use of top and bottom filter.
Hey! How's this? IF RANK(SUM([Value])) <= 3 THEN "Top 3" ELSEIF RANK(SUM([Value]),'asc') <= 3 THEN "Bottom 3" ELSE "Other" END Then you can drop that field on Color and you'll be good to go! 🙏🏻
@@onenumbertableau Thanks a lot, it worked as intended.👍

Hey, thanks for this video. This was very helpful. I tried to implement this and False was only showing up under the columns that i wanted to hide but, when i select the column and click on hide then, entire table is hidden. How do i make sure that just the columns that have false are hidden and not the entire table? Thanks in advance!
Hey! I would do something like: 1. Create a parameter called "Show/Hide Dimension" (Boolean output) 2. Create a calculated field called "Show [Dimension]." This should read: IF [Show/Hide Parameter] THEN [Dimension] ELSE "" END 3. Put this on Rows/Columns That should help!

Great video, thanks for sharing. Do you know if Tableau would be able to take the quadrant chart (QC) you make here and take it a few steps further? Specifically, if I have a data set to populate this sort of color-coded QC each week, could I track the path of a certain point? I know there are connected scatter plots that can do this but would the path and any intermediate points along its path change color if it was in different quadrants each week?
Hi Mitch, I suppose it depends on how the data is structured. Would you have the ability to filter to a prior week to see what the values were then or is your data source "real-time" without the ability to easily filter to prior values?
Hey, great tutorial, really helpful. It will be great if we can get the data for subsequent videos so we can follow along. Thanks again
Thank you! Good feedback, here's a copy of the workbook from the walkthrough that you can download: public.tableau.com/app/profile/eric.parker/viz/DivergingBarChart_17185718078620/Title
It would be great if you show how to outline by value size after this sorting, I have a working case, I found the video composed 8 years ago, is any new ideas exists, how to do that?
Hi, I'm not sure what you mean by "outline by value size". Can you share more or a link to the resource you're talking about?
I meant sort the bottom segment by value from highest to lowest, the link I posted above as an example, but it is 8 years old, is any up-to-date approach?
@@oksanavorobiova8929 I don't see a link but I don't know of a way to retain the visual of a stacked bar while doing the nested sort individually per row (e.g. the color sequence is different in each row). Here's the closest thing I could build that resembles what you're asking (I think): public.tableau.com/app/profile/eric.parker/viz/CustomNestedSortPerRow/Title

How do I show one item in 2 dates. Eg: I have to show total defect on its creation time and closed defects by its closed time in a line graph
You might need to union the table to itself and create a single date field so you can show each value twice. Thanks a lot for your video! Do you know if there's a way to apply it to different dashboards posted on a story and just input the password once so that it shows all the dashboards? Tried to publish it like this and you need to input the password on every tab of the story and when you switch tabs it gets deleted and you need to input it again.
Hey! Thanks for the message. I would think that the issue here is that stories function differently to dashboards. Each tab of the story is essentially a new view or a standalone entity. I am not aware of a viable alternative for stories using this method I’m afraid!
Great, super helpful. Thank you!

what if your data has future dates populated, but you only need for the present FY, how do you fix it. Because the Max in the current FYwill pick the future FY
In that case, I would create a Fiscal Year of Today calc and reference that instead for your max date. Something like this. YEAR(DATEADD('month',3,TODAY()))

Will this also work for when you are using sheets on a dashboard as a filter for the rest of the dashboard? I can't get it to reset those selections.
Hi John! Thanks for checking this video out. Unfortunately, this approach won't clear worksheet selections. However, we've got a video dropping on Wednesday about the "Reset View" button that should help with your question!
Great, simple explanation. Just what I needed, I think. Subscribed!

Nice one! Maybe the transitioning between fixed and not fixed would be helpful as well, if that is not just ticking where those options appeared. But a really clarifying class overrall, thanks!
We're glad to hear this is helpful, we like the idea of a Floating vs. Tiled video. Thanks for suggesting!
How to blend the data sources without having common filed?
I don't know if that's very feasible. If you need to define the shared field, you can do that through the Data dropdown on the toolbar in Tableau and then selecting "Edit Blend Relationships". Otherwise you'd need to do something tricky like create a placeholder calculation with matching text and try to blend on that. That could have so very unintended duplication effects however.
Always amazing content!! 👏

Interesting! I was just working with a client on this exact problem this morning. However, are you trying to compare months or years?
