it's time for a fresh start ✨ (I moved!)
I've been itching for a change in my life for a while now, so I'm really excited to take you along for a little adventure as I move to a new apartment! To me, this change is about a lot more than just having a new place to live. This is a choice I made intentionally to improve the quality of my life outside of the office. I am choosing to be closer to nature in a place that fills me with inspiration and where happiness comes more easily. Change is scary, but I know in my heart that this change is for the best!

7 tips for creating art while working full time! 🎨
มุมมอง 27K14 วันที่ผ่านมา
I won't lie, it's not always easy to balance a full-time job with fostering a regular, healthy art practice! However, after doing this for almost 2 years, I've picked up a few tips and tricks along the way that have really helped me figure out how to stay consistent with my art even while I work my full-time job. As I mentioned in the video, I don't want to make it seem like I have it all figur...
I think copying other artists is a GOOD THING
มุมมอง 3K21 วันที่ผ่านมา
Let's talk about master studies, baby!! Okay, okay, let me be clear I DON'T think that anybody should plagiarize anybody else's art. It is NOT OKAY to copy somebody else's artwork and make it out as your own. Don't do that. Super uncool, and also illegal. HOWEVER, creating master copies of artwork can be SUCH a valuable way to learn from the artists that you love, and to develop a style that re...

a letter to the creatives who choose PEACE over PROFIT ✿

This is genuinely one of my favorite topics to talk about. In the creative/online entrepreneurship world, we often see the relentless pursuit of MORE wherein people are always jumping to the next big revenue goal. I'm trying to be very intentional about NOT falling into that trap, and instead focusing on the idea of "enough" as I grow my business from the ground up. I don't need an opulent life...

OMG!!! From your first pattern….my jaw DROPPED with the second floral. It’s gorgeous and I would wallpaper it for sure!!! I love the colors you chose in it. It’s my fave of all of them. Also, the larger ice cream cone scale is better than had they been small. However, it is really just two different looks depending on what you’d use it for. I’m a fan. Please keep sharing the progress and inspiration!

Being a GenX artist, an organized space is different than a clean space. I have a mindset to change by not trying every craft and by getting rid of items I haven’t used for literal years! An organized CLEAN space ensures you have time to create.

You are badass, thank you for sharing these ideas. Appreciate #7 especially, I think a person's energy, focus, responsibilites, motivation can vary so much from day to day, week to week, month, year, etc that a person really has to feel it out literally daily. I like your ideas because they do help a person train themselves to "do" even when our minds are not feeling it and it is true that if you start engaging in art making even when you don't feel like it the motivation comes after you have begun and sometimes you do get some new ideas and insights from the short work burst of 10- 20 min because that was all the time you had that otherwise you might have lost had you given in to the mental fatigue. thank you again for your time and effort to put this info out and help others

I find that if I go too long without making things, I feel more drained. In spite of painting or drawing when I'm tired, I find that even if I spent 8 hours a day 4 days into the work week, if I spend an hour or two of that night drawing, then at the end of the week I feel better than a week where I didn't make anything. Creating relaxes me, I have so much fun making things that it really helps keep me alive.

I wish I had found this mindset a few decades ago, but it’s never too late. I’m in my early 40’s and certainly had different ideas in mind where I wanted to be financially by now. But…a toxic marriage and a rough mental health journey made those goals so out of reach, until now…even though I am raising kids on my own and had to start over…I simply cannot and will not do the crazy hustle and grind. I’m not where I want to be financially yet, but putting in my best effort and sticking to what I can handle.

I also like working in day light but it's always " oh so much is pending I will do this first then sit, do that one then sit" and when everything is done it's already night 🗿, light might not be there but atleast my mind is clear , there is no work pending at night there is no one calling at night and other disturbance. So when I have to record something then I make a space in between the daily routine to record in light.

I can’t believe you put your poor cat in the carrier *with* a cone. How miserably claustrophobic. And putting 2 cats in one carrier?? I felt so sorry for all of them.🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

      @pepostudios 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

Pumpkin (with the cone) has been dealing with some skin issues and she needs the cone to prevent scratching and opening up her scabs. She’s also teeny tiny and had room to turn around, even with the cone. Hazel (the grey one) is a very anxious cat and does much better in the car when she’s with her mom (the one-eyed cat). We were only in the car for ~40 min. My partner is a vet tech, and all of our cats are foster fails who we’ve been taking care of for their entire lives. I assure you, they are absurdly pampered. Sincerely, a non-meat eater who just got done hand feeding them home cooked Cornish hen that I made just for them 🤷🏻‍♀️. They’re in good hands, I promise!

I couldn't agree more that you should totally copy other artists work, for your own practice and learning and art journey. I actually touched on that briefly in a video I posted about lies/myths that artists believe in. If it weren't for recreating other artists pieces, I would not have discovered certain subjects I now love to paint, or probably wouldn't have tried a different brush or technique for certain parts of my paintings. Just DON'T sell any of it or take the credit for it. I'm all for honouring other artists!!!

I really needed this video, by job is so draining sometimes but I have a big goal of becoming a full-time artist. I feel like I'm failing anytime that I'm not drawing if I'm not at work 😓 I'm going to implement the masterstudy idea, and I already keep my tablet on my nightstand, it's very relaxing before bed! I'd also like to add that I've given myself a small amount of time to meet by the end of the week, I can draw for as long or as little as I want, every day or only a few days as long as that time is met (right now it's 7 hours per week, had to drop it from 10 because life happens!)

I think that’s such an interesting idea to set yourself weekly art goals! I’d love to hear more about how you track your time. I really like that approach though because it gives you some flexibility for those days when work and life are just a bit too exhausting and you’re left feeling creatively wiped out. It’s okay if we don’t create every day!

    But is tracing okay?

I personally wouldn’t recommend it. To me, the whole point of doing master studies is to learn from another artist. When you trace somebody else’s work, I think that you are removing a lot of the opportunities to actually learn. I think that it’s a lot more valuable to try to recreate a piece of artwork by “eyeballing” it because you’re developing your art muscles a lot more than if you were to simply trace. And, of course, all of the same rules I described in this video still apply - you should never try to sell any master studies or make them out as your own. I’m sure there are exceptions to this rule, but those are my thoughts.

It’s a very useful video! I am in the same situation with the exactly same issues with a full time work and a kid😅 I try to apply to me a very simple rule in my case: just do one thing every day. Even if I am tired, I found out I can always manage to do something even small for my art 🙌

Hi! I'm following along with your tutorial today - thank you so much for sharing this info!!! - but I'm stuck on "apply layer mask". It is greyed out and not allowing me to select it. When I searched this up it said I needed to convert my original scan to a smart object (rasterize) but it looks like you are doing that on the next step...any clues as to what I've missed?
