Surface pattern designers -- do you regularly keep a sketchbook? Do you treat your sketchbook as a messy place for ideas, or a place to pull together pretty renderings (or maybe somewhere in between)? Thanks for being here!
Tip from a chaos cat owner - using a smaller paint water vessel and having it nested inside a *thick* roll of duck/similar tape (making a Tape Coozie) makes it spill-proof.
I really admire that you still have the energy to be creative after work, and I also think the design with the watercolors is really pretty. Also I agree cats are the best buddies to paint😉🐈
It can be really hard!! And some days I don’t have the energy 😅. But there are also some days when I feel totally exhausted, but I decide to spend an hour painting anyway, and I never regret doing that because I always feel better afterwards. I just have to be very flexible and kind to myself when I can’t always paint as often as I want 😅
Thanks for inspiring me! I make excuses to not paint or draw (daylight being one of them), but you’ve reminded me that I can create any time. I love the colors and textures in your motifs. It would definitely be interesting to watch how they come together in a pattern.
It can definitely be a challenge to make artwork at night, but I find that the hardest part is really just showing up, and once I get started my creative juices usually start to flow!
Yes! Surface pattern designers unite! Love the colours you use, it’s great you’re discovering your style. 😊 I took Immersion last year too and while I had a lot of momentum at first, it’s kind of trailed off as life gets busy. I’m wanting to get back into it also, but not sure of my style. I found spoonflower a little overwhelming to be on haha. I tried doing the challenges a few times, but got caught in major comparison trap, so taking a break there. Happy sketch booking!
I also totally fell off of the spoonflower challenges!! Now that they’ve updated them to every other week instead of every week, I’m considering doing one or two here and there, just for fun 🤔 We’re all going at our own pace, and that’s okay!!
Haha, it’s certainly an adventure!! And, hey, I’d rather have pets who love me (and subsequently cause minor disasters lol) than pets who ignore me, so it’s a trade off 😆 Thank you for your kind words!!
I felt inspired to do a spread with a ditzy flower pattern in my sketchbook as soon as you started yours!!! 😊 I thinks it’s an excellent practice. You can harvest your sketchbook and come up with excellent designs before you know it. Oh, Hazel!!! 😅I just love her (I had a cat 🐈⬛ and he passed away last year at 14… he was very shy and would only try a drink off the water jar if I left the room … bless him xx😢
Woohoo, I love that we were able to paint together!! Isn’t Hazel such a sweetheart (albeit a bit chaotic lol)?! I’m sorry to hear your cat passed away last year… ugh it’s so hard 😢 but I’m sure you gave him an amazing life! It sounds like your painting sessions were slightly more peaceful than mine 😆
Love your videos. Been following you since you were in the hundreds! Just so you know on your thumbnail for at least this video, the “me” in “paint with me” is covered up by the duration of the video on mobile! Keep up the good work. Not every path is a straight line.
Thank you for sharing your process as I have sign on to Bonnie Christine’s immersion course this yr 2024 because of your review of it. I don’t have a style yet and the business part started to feel like a lot, but the option of not doing it is not an option. Your process is actually the true path as to what it takes. We can all hear the success stories when the movie is done, but you are actually showing the process of doing even with a full time job (which is my case). I appreciate your insights, your process and your commitment to your art 😍🫶🏼🎨🏵️
Thank you for taking the time to write this thoughtful comment, Lety 🫶🏼 I felt very similarly when I took Immersion last year! It’s definitely a slow game, but it can be so much more enjoyable when we just hunker down and make the decision to enjoy the journey, no matter how long it takes. I’m cheering you on!
I am a surface pattern designer (aspiring) took Bonnie’s course 2022. I love watching you grow! What is your SF shop name? Mine is Infinity Friends- Have you tried Tombow markers and water brush pen? Looks like watercolor.
That makes me so happy to hear!! I actually just set up a Google form for myself to fill out every day. As far as the graphics go, I use a coding language called R. It’s a bit nerdy, but it’s what I know!
What is it that you think your portfolio is missing? I see you have some cute designs and could really get those out there already. I’m curious if you promote to companies now?
Thank you!! It’s not so much that I feel like my portfolio is missing certain things (though, I do feel like it would be good to get some holiday themed patterns and illustrations in there!). It’s more that I want to feel more comfortable and confident with my own style before I focus too much on commercializing my artwork, if that makes sense. I’m not currently pitching to companies, but I really hope to be this year!

Gasp, this is genius!!! I’m 100000% going to do this. What a smart idea 🤩
@@pepostudios cheers! drinking glasses fit too (; haha
I just love what you are doing. Please keep doing it! Wonderful vibe. Moonbeam.

The strawberry pattern at the end is so lovely! Reminiscent of the oranges pattern from last year that I loved so much.
Omg, high praise! 🥰🫶🏼
such a good video, stayed till the end ☺☺

I have a small dog but I can imagine what painting with two cats is like:). I adore your sketchbook spread! So playful and spring inspired😍

@@pepostudios You are absolutely right! And perhaps they are creative too! Who knows... They might have wanted to create a WATERcolour piece;D

The pattern is so pretty ❤ I can totally see that one on fabric ❤
Thank you! I think I’ll try it out!!

I think the pattern in this video would be so cute on a day dress.
I love that idea!!
you rock
Thanks!! 🤘🏼

Mine is Pepostudios! My link is in the description of my videos 🙌🏼 I just gave a black tombow marker, but maybe I should look into branching out 🤔

I think that generally speaking, living with multiple cats is expert mode 😅
This might be the truest statement I’ve ever read 😆
I have 3 cats, all suspended indefinitely.
Lol, I’m right there with ya in this three cat life 😆
Second is NOT so bad these days
Verrryyyy impressive!! 😆🫶🏼
