Thanks to everyone who took part in my Toft doll-a-long. The prize winners have now been contacted and if you want to see all the finished dolls you can watch a reel I created over on Instagram: reelC6im7T... - บันเทิง
I agree with you about 'destashing' that grey jumper. If there's someone who wants to knit on to what you started, that will be the best, or someone who wants to frog it and use the yarn for something else. You don't need to do the frogging, you can send it as it is. So you're 'freed' from this WIP in the closet
Hi Martyn, hope Blackpool has been fun. Did you see the Northern Lights last night. We was out until 1:30am on a local hill. Amazingly my son on the Isle of Man had some brilliant photos from his front lawn. They live near the middle of the island with little or no lights outside.
Have a great week. Number 2 for me. xxJane 🐑🌼
I totally agree Martyn. Crafting time is indeed precious and limited. Do what gives you joy. Frog away! Thank you for your time and all the fun projects and discussion today xx
I haven’t knitted in weeks I have been doing a sewing appliqué project as I stopped knitting because I have to frog a shawl. UGH. But watching you I have a strong NEED to knit on my other shawl that is on the needle. Cannot wait until dinner cleanup is done so I may knit.🧶 ❤
Haha, it would be a disaster if the dishwasher really did have a spin cycle (your comment at 6 mins) 😂. Love the video as always ❤
Great, declutter it!
I vote Wip Number 3
Frog it! I can't give something as a present if I don't love it . Number 7 please. I really should number my wips, some probably 30 yrs old..., then do a random number generator, could be fun!
Life's too short and time to precious to knit stuff (read stuff, watch stuff) that isn't bringing you joy. Destash with a clear conscious and happy heart. That said, the only thing that might make me keep a more than half finished project would be if there is someone I could finish and gift it to. 🙂
As for the next wip...#2.
I think I need to revisit some of my languishing WIPs. I have about 17 projects in some state of progress but some I haven't touched for over a year. It's hard to let go of all the time you've put in, but you are right, if it's not going to be used, best to let it go to someone who will use it.
Wip number six!
Love the Mark tax it's like Hannahs cat tax
Absolutely love your videos I so love forward to them I love all the "Real life" stuff xx
Here in Australia/NZ seem to be the forgotten race when it comes to European products. Angus & Robertson booksellers do stock the book.
Looks like Mark's jumper has gone into the deep freezer or to Antartica ☃️ 😈🫤?? If you will never finish the grey, or wear it, ditch it. Or frog and use to incorporate in a shawl.
Congrats to the winner of the Woolly Wormhead book! You are gonna love it! I preordered mine and received it today, it is fabulous and I can’t wait to find some time to swatch some of the patterns. Thanks Martyn for doing the interview with Woolly.
Number 1 😊 xx
That sweater would make a great gift for someone 🤩🤩🤩. It’s almost done!
number 1
I think it's smart to pass things that you've moved past! There are plenty of people who would fit it and love that wool. I'd have very few days a year in which it would work for me here, so won't enter - I'll just cheer for whoever wins. Oh Martyn, your videos are always fun - all the projects - enjoy your band time and the travel.
WIP #3 for your next episode.
Thank you Martyn, next wip number 3 please. You have helped me to decide to frog a project I have been slogging through with little resulting joy, I have felt as if I just "have to" finish it. Having made the decision it is a real relief to walk away and put the yarn to a project I can love making :)
Oh, no. I’m such a nurse! I see “new cast on” and I immediately think “what did he break?”. Duh. It’s a knitting channel. Glad it’s only a hangover ❤️🇨🇦
😂
LOVE the idea of deshashing a WIP, I agree, someone might love it.
Number 3 😀
Hot ice show and the illuminations. Blackpool is always fun. Good luck with the competition.
Always enjoy a chat with you! I’m sure someone would love to finish the sweater! The frizzle chickens of seen are the cutest creatures and looking forward to seeing yours finished! Have fun in Blackpool!
❤
Destash as a partial knit is a great idea. Love the little shawl/scarf.
Thanks for another interesting video! You're a great knitting companion.
Great idea to destash and sell the jumper and the yarns left!! Love the shawl - I have to check out the pattern for it.
And since 3 is a magic number I vote for wip #3
I’m knitting a flax as we speak! It’s a great pattern! But I agree on liberating ourselves from the projects that no longer bring joy or purpose. Our WIP queue should be full of exciting opportunities and old friends rather than chores to finish.
Martyn why not finish the body on your tin can knits jumper and try on before frogging it could look amazing good luck in your band competition x
I’d like to see wip number 3. Could you pop the link to the shawl pattern in the show notes if possible thanks?
I love your behind the scenes at band camp footage and I think your Pride scarf is going to look cool!
Great episode, love the toothy shawls 😊. Oh I'd like that destash sweater but the shipping to the US would be ridiculous. I vote number 3. Enjoy your week!
😺 looking forward to the wool, knitting, Banding crossover video! 💕
I used to enjoy contesting too.I played the cornet for a fourth section band. Lots of fun. 😹
I'm going to vote for project number 1.
Frog the sweater and move on to colourful things that make you happy.
i think number 5 again what a great idea xxx
What a great idea for wip/de-stash I would like to choose number 4 for the next one. Have a good week 👍
No 7 xx
Good idea to frog/destash the jumper!! You have outgrown it for a multitude of reasons. I am sure this decision will make you happy 😊 and gives room for something fun to knit. I am curious about wip number 6. Have a lovely week with your band practice and Blackpool next weekend!
#4 please.
You could have had one of your friends overdue that grey yarn…
Number 3
I like the wip down process. My vote is for wip number 6!
Detach as a jumper; it’s beautiful ❤
#froggingisfreeing 😂 number 1. Thanks for another great video and enjoy your time away 🚌
I'm all about the joy..if there's no joy it's not worth slogging through it...would love to see #3 wip...have fun at band camp...
The sweater is absolutely beautiful. No one in your family would wear it? It would make for a wonderful gift.
No 1
WIP #3 please
I feel I’m on the same knitting timeline as you. I’m now over with the gray and brown colors and on with the bright and fun!…. Maybe Mr. S. West had something to do with it! 😉🤩😍
Martyn I missed you last week but very glad to catch up today. I’m all about number 3. I love to see all your projects and I do agree Joy should be knitting’s middle name 😉. Regarding your jumper…..nothing wrong with frogging or destashing however you could finish the body and try it on. Is there anyway to incorporate Wooly Wormhead’s new book ideas or maybe embroider somewhere on it…blank canvas and all…just an idea. I finally caught the Emotional Support Chicken bug and have made 3 of them…chickens not bugs😂 (you should check the pattern on Ravelry). Good luck with band! Can’t wait to see what you get finished with your “bus” crafting time! By the way, congratulations on staying with your health plan! I commend you!
Frog it? I would say-try to de-stash as is. If you don't get any takers -they Frog and de-stash. Have a wonderful week.
When i wonder about letting something go, I ask myself this...if it were gone tomorrow, would I miss it? If the answer is "no", I let it go!
#3. It’s the magic number.
Stash, much like the middle room in our basement, is a bit like purgatory.
A couple of weeks ago, my husband turned up with a frying pan that he'd retrieved from the middle room. "Why have we kept this?" He asks. "I don't know why _you_ kept it" I reply. That frying pan was taken out of use years back and just lived in that room ever since. He has been whinging about the chaos in that room for a while now - but it's full of things that need getting rid of, but he holds on to them for some unknown reason. If you don't need it, you don't need it. (End of my therapy session)
My point being: it's ok to get rid of something. If it has sat in that holding place for long enough, it's as though you've got ridden of it anyway. All it's doing is taking up room, making your stash full and unorganised : so it just becomes irritating. Don't turn your stash into the "I don't really want this" pile. Just remember to keep the needles.
Love the cowls, what pattern is it please? Thank you and apologies if you did say and I missed it.
#4 please. Frog the sweater. Or perhaps someone would finish it and then donate it!
Great episode. Sometimes it's just time to move on. #3
Hi Martyn. Why don’t you knit the last couple of inches of the jumper body (before the ribbing) then destash. It will be easier for someone to finish it off when the gauge isn’t as noticeable. Enjoy the band competition- 12 hours of bus knitting sounds delicious. I vote for WIP#4. Linda from Toronto, Canada.
Love the shawl,
I emailed you. I love the shawl you are knitting. The color is beautiful. Number 3
Number 2!
I vote number 5. Could you not gift your sweater to a friend ?
I’m going with #3😊
Can we see no. 7. About the jumper I would have it but it depends on the size. Good luck in the band comp
wip number 3 please
Did you forget to put down the name of the shawl/scarf? 🤷🏻♀️
Martin, do you have a postal box to have things sent in? I have something for you and your fundraiser for June. Please let me know.
Help. I can’t find the link to Louise’s Shawl with the shark tooth edge. Can you point me to it?
Here you go www.louisetilbrookdesigns.net/everyday-knitter-shop/do-not-disturb-shawl
I’ve learnt this past year to make things I want to make and if I am not going to wear it or I’m really not enjoying it, it’s got to go. Same with yarns I have had a while that I see no purpose for. I feel much better for destashing!
Please can you share project 7!!
Good luck with your band competition
But its almost done. Maybe you can get joy out of it by knowing it will be going to charity?!?!?! just a thought.
Martyn send the tin can knit sweater to me , it will fit me , ,there that helped you get rid of a wip and a detach at the same time xx but I can’t afford to buy it xx best of luck in Blackpool , hello Mark xx 💋 love ❤️
Did you say don't put the dishwasher on because the spin cycle will come on when you're podcasting. My dishwasher doesn't have a spin cycle. I don't think I'd like to hear that on your podcast 🤣🤣
We often call the dishwasher the washing machine. I'm mean, yes - but also very very no!
Why not finish it and donate to a shelter?
Definatly destash or frog if it doesn’t bring you joy. And, rip the error out in your herbivore obviously it is annoying as you have put it down and not touched it. Hmm how about number 8.
Good for you to move on from a project that isn’t for you any longer. Life’s too long short. Knit what you love 🧶
