Welcome to my channel. I mostly post videos on modifications in the RV and around the house. If I have a way to help someone else with an idea or a modification I enjoy sharing it to help others save on research time or cost. Sometimes its just the know how or or step by step visual that can help others do their own.

Residential thermostat in camper pt1

Did not like how this system ran from factory, variable speeds on the fan, fan stayed running all time, air conditioner fan would run when the furnace would run, and the swing on the Dometic thermostat was so far off, being comfortable was far stretch. Changed out the control module and put in a residential thermostat and now it works just like home! Control Module www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01...

Thanks for the information. Great video!!
I recommend holding it in place and energizing it.
What is the white pvc pipe for? Regulator static air run away from the generator? Drain??
That is a vent for the regulator. If the regulator is not 5 feet from the generator i needs to be vented 5 feet away so potential gas fumes does not get too close to the generator
The installers take a lot of stuff that belongs to the home owner.
I'm about to fixed 20kva and I want to know how to fix it can you please help?
Depending, what are you trying to fix?
@@dan8220 the same generator
have started our Generac at 30 below in Maine, 4 year old battery.
Well explained, thank you.
Why do they always want the doors to open upwards, almost all Australian camper doors open down, no need for magnets.
Good question. I could only think that maybe the hinge provides weather proofing where the bottom side might allow rain water penetration, but then on the other hand it has seals all the way around.
😊 working on mine. Unlocking so many videos. Learning as I go. For me personally it was much easier to take the cop rail off and keep it off after putting on bead receiver that hangs over pool wall and then reinforcing with with the rails that snap over cinching but not screwing down the top rail because it's much easier to work the pool liner into the bead receiver without that overhanging top rail getting in the way of your hands and wrists can you create a little more room to create more leverage.. I wish I would have just bought the unibead liner because I had j hook and oh my goodness is it easier once you get it started. Some people use the locking mechanisms because there's too much space and I'm glad I don't have that issue but Sam is in the tight squeeze.. I got blisters on Me Fingaz 😅😅😅
I had no problem getting it into the track. Plenty of room with the tops left on. Just roll the liner back like opening a deck of cards box top, bend it back and put it in the track. Mine slipped right down in the track and easy peasy.
Hey Dan. Good mods. No links for items. 🤔
What you looking for? I can let you know where I got them or post a link to the description.
Most of them ;) Chain cady, toy lock, LED lights, keyless entry, window shades, hot water tank, vent covers, sewer hose container, was it an inverter fan or whole new inverter? Was it new bulbs or whole new light fixture? Thermostat too 😉

High/Low fan switch, am guessing Gl=low and GH is high, you show G (presume) Green, is your common? On mine a Coleman Mach 15, my common is blue, I can figure out hi and low, but what wire goes to center of switch..NEED P/N of switch, thanks great informative video...
No g is the fan power. On the residential thermostat fan is just fan, there are no speed variables from the thermostat itself other than just on and that’s the green wire. The rv system has 2 speeds, hi and low, so to keep both options you need an on/on toggle to switch between the 2 speeds. Of you not want one speed. Which I don’t recommend, you can just wire the green fan switch the speed of your preference. Also COMMON IS NOT USED in this set up. It uses batteries instead for continuous power.
Good to know! I think I would run some engine temp safe wire loom over that wire under the engine. Also, if cold is an issue on the battery, maybe get a low profile battery box to help isolate it all from the metal floor and help keep it warm. Thanks for sharing a helpful tip for everyone!
You should have mentioned the sediment trap on gas pipe, excellent content.
Its not a bad idea to cycle the generator/transfer switch evey once in a while (especially if you havent had an outage in a while.) It keeps the innards of the transfer switch moving just incase of prolonged corrosion build up. Do this by shutting the main breaker off in your house with gen in "auto"". Let it run for 20 or so minuts and then turn main breaker back on.
I’ve upgraded to 22 kw a few years back and outage test it 2 times a year for 30 minutes or so.
@@dan8220 you will be fine then!
I don't have a Generac system but what i do have is a system i built. Fabricated the metal cabinet enclosure and bought the twin-V2 air cooled engine and a 14KW generator head. Combined everything to be controlled by the DSE 7320 control module, DSE 855 communication module and battery maintainer. Rather than purchasing Generac named winterized products at such a high cost. I bought a battery warmer 65 watt and a engine block heater pad 150 watt. Both have internal temperature switches that keep the temperature of the pads maintaining constant heat. Controlled by the DSE 7320 module whenever the temperature drops to 40 degrees. I placed the engine block heater directly onto the bottom of the engine block to achieve even heat to effectively warm up the engine oil. I'm not certain that placing one of those Generac oil filter style heat cups over the oil filter really is doing any good. Most of the oil drains back into the engine block once the motor is stopped. So many additional parts that are to many to list. One most important thing I found was using the best quality and proper grade of motor oil. I found that Mobile 1 full synthetic 15-30 motor oil works excellent 👌. Still needs changed every 6 to 8 months or within 60 hours of run time. Monthly scheduled test runs need to be performed. I built my own system in order to know everything I need to for when something fails. No need to wait on someone else to fix what I can do myself . I keep a number of spare parts on hand including starter's, sensors, relays, LP fuel shut off solenoid valves and coils, engine mags, breather filters, double stage regulator. It's so good👍😊 to run and maintain your own equipment and not be stumbling around trying to figure out someone else's mess.
Great video but i believe hard starts actually are rougher on ac systems and shorten the life span. They are also considerably cheaper than soft starts.
I updated to soft start on my hvac system, it’s better for the equipment than a hard start.
I live in Missouriand ours froze up at 10 below and hasn't started since.
Not even when the outdoor temp warmed up?
Probably burned out the starter motor trying to crank over an engine with thick oil from minus 10 degrees 😧 That's why you need a engine block heater. These small starters and solenoids on these small engines just won't hold up to hard cranking of thick oil. Maybe about 10 or 15 seconds and there toast. Try pulling the starter and check it.
Did you have to buy the Generac Auxiliary switch separate or is that built in from factory?
Mine was built in. Part of the transfer switch.
Mine has a heat pack as well. I disconnected 2 of the 3 elements (put them each on a toggle) . SO the HP and if necessary the one element (2500 watt element) will run on my 20KW genny. I have tested it and works well. can turn on 1 or 2 toggles depending on load.
That’s clever, how does it work if your away and outage happens?
Can you muret the wire in tha main electrical panel as a junction box?
Muret?
Marrette
@@Harfehesab1111 yes you can
What's the point of this video?
Not sure I understand the question. It explains why.
The point is trying to sell Generac generators to people that don't know any better...😂
Avr position
I like the fact that I can actually hear and understand what you say. So many YTers have the camera/phone a long way away or they try to talk with a ton of background noise. nice to clearly understand what you are saying!
This video was helpful as we installed a new 24k gen and weeks after it was installed I decided to do a load test. The gen started and ran perfect but the relay switch never kicked in. I was really disappointed and the reason why ended up on this video. Got to looking around and one small wire on the relay had popped off, I guess from the shipping or install. What a relief! We have used the gen in 2 outages now.
I put in a generac 24kw a few months back and I have a 4 ton and a 2 ton AC units and when the 4 ton starts the generac was bogging pretty good. I checked the 4 ton, it's an old one, about 17 years old now, and it was rated to pull 117 LRA. I decided to bite the bullet and buy a Micro Air soft start for both units and will be adding them next week. I don't want to have to deal with brownouts running on generator and this should help to add life to both compressors and the genset as well.
so why did the generator keep running after power was restored?
Because the fuse that reads incoming power from the supply was blown and not communicating to the generator power was restored so it keep running thinking the power was still out.
Hey, 14kw generator can support tree 40A -AC & some lights and plug? Thanks
Yes, I had a 40amp hot water tank on mine, no problem
Great video…learned more on your video than AC sites. Going from a hard start to soft start for generator
Really easy setup, had it out if box and running in less than an hour, including reading the manual. Wheels came with it. Remote start a plus. Electric start worked perfectly. Would recommend.
so u put a 100 amp beaker in the main panel that feeds the top side utility into the transfer switch and the question is do u take the original breakers out of the panel that u want to have powered up by the generator and put them in the transfer switch panel. so how is the appliances u want to have power with the utility on getting power if u put them in the transfer switch
Yea 100 amp breaker was what Generac called for. No, the transfer switch came with all the breakers in it but you swap what you need if something different is needed.
How do you actually replace the fuse? Did you use needle nose pliers to remove them or special tool?
Yes there is a fuse puller specifically made for pulling fuses, got it at Home Depot.
@@dan8220 awesome. Thanks i’ll check it out.
It's probably too late. I don't know if you still check these videos. But I have the new updated version of this part/module. Do you know how to wire it??? Would be much h appreciated. Thx! Got it hooked up for the most part I just don't know we're the big 110v. Blue wire for compressor would go on this new board
It’s really hard to tell, the blue wire is 24 volt usually
Nice touch using an end switch for the garage door, which is really independent of the generator function. BTW, most people overthink these installations. There's really no need for a drop-out relay on a drier because they will pause with a power interruption anyway. (requires manual restart) You really only need to deal with that if you have kids or a cleaning service that doesn't understand the word NO!
Agree with you there, but it was required by code at the time of install to remove the overload possibility systematically.
Dan the man!
Why did you upgrade from a 14kW to a 22kW! That’s a big change in kilowatts.
So I could put the whole house on generator. 14kw was not big enough to run the whole house.
Not a fan of the way you had it put in. Not a fan of it pointing near the deck, pool, and house. With the 22kW you will not have to worry about that anymore.
I agree, they installed it before I did any research. After I did my research I knew to turn the new one. Made a big difference in sound.
Great review, as well as your personal insights.
when performing maintenance, do you simply press the off button on the generator and begin working? or do you have to turn off the main circuit breaker panel and utility switch inside cabinet like when it's under load? just want to be sure. thanks.
I just hit the off button.
It's very nice but too thick in depth for our RV cabinet. You did a great install!
They make different thickness that might fit yours. The new one I’m about to do is only 3” thick.
Thank you for the video. Question, what brand pool ladder is that?
That is an “Aqua select heavy duty resin in-pool ladder with entrapment barrier”

I think you’ll be fine yes, this one had no winter kit either. And started up fine at -16, if you want you can out and start it a couple times for a few minutes to keep the oil loose but I believe you’ll have no problems, if you did it would more than likely be fuel related if your on propane.

I replaced my 12kw with a brand new 2022 Generac 14kw with the newer designed engine with hydraulic lifters which I really like my old one had that 1L with non hydraulic lifters make sure you keep valves right first adjustment is first 25 hours then 300 after I wouldn't go that long 200 max I always did it warm your smart and know these machines so probably not telling you anything you don't know my house isn't very big and is very rural 14kw is plenty what I don't like about it they removed oil cooler to help prevent moisture it does hold more oil than the bigger engine far as oil stay away from car oils such as Mobil 1 because the ppm on zinc and phosphorus is very low around 700 to 800 for emission system small engine oil like Briggs and Stratton or Amsoil small engine oil have alot more zinc and phosphorus which are very important for small air cooled engines and they are 100% synthetic Mobil 1 and other big name oils are not 100% they only need so much to be labeled full synthetic on my generator I can run mine off the phone just have to check box for not responsibility for injuries or damage if someone is working on it which I understand but they have improved on some of those things I also have cold weather kit probably turn off battery warmer 540cc is plenty for a 816cc twin cylinder now the Mobile link is 49.99 for all the information its free for basic information mine also has cold weather start runs longer before transfer
i'm just wondering when generac will start offering a standby gen with 'eco' mode. these larger units really use the fuel, and it would be nice if they throttled down when usage is low.
That would be cool. The closest thing they have is the eco gen. www.generac.com/all-products/generators/home-backup-generators/ecogen/15kw-7163-wifi-enabled
Why cant the units be made with the soft start when built!!
Some of the fancier ones are. This one is bare entry level unit.
The engine starts at 1:58.
The reason they don’t offer remote control is they would have to maintain security servers to prevent hacking. I know it’s unlikely anyone would. But it’s easy to push data out. No security risk. But allowing inbound communication control is fairly complex and requires more expensive servers to maintain. They likely hire a third party developer who would have to price in the cost for this over x number of generators. If less than $100k annually, it wouldn’t be cost prohibitive
There is no excuse for them. When the customers ask, you deliver. Automobiles, home alarm systems, camera systems, my refrigerator, and home hvac thermostat for crying out loud! 😆 but not a $5,&10,$15,$20k generator? They have no defense to save $20 on this option. If anything else let the customers decide, same as as car option, heated seats or not. Power windows or not. Upgrade for rims, etc. just plain not offering it is totally ignorant.
