    For 1995, you forgot about Andrea Aghini, very underrated driver, he was #12 in the Evo 2 and 3 for the 95 season, and would do decently and participated in The Monte Carlo, The Tour De Corse, and rally Catalunya and in the ERC.His best performance was in the Tour De Corse and ERC with a 3rd place finish and 5th in Catalunya after Makinen crashed out and 6th finish in Monte. Not mad, just feel like the Italian driver deserves some credit as he did some development work on the Evo 3

    It was somewhat of a miracle that Mitsubishi managed to turn around their 2000 struggles into 2001. For a while it looked like it was business as usual again. But it was probably helped by Peugeot and Subaru having a bit of a slump in that first half of 2001. But anyway Tommi might have taken the title if the stuck to the old car...but even at the time that didnt seem possible somehow. If felt like a Burns or Mcrae year.

    Great video! I really think that a Lancer WRC06 with a 6 speed semi automatic transmission and other suspension improvements could made this car a winner. Sadly it didn't happened. I remember at the end of 2005 season, before Mitsubishi withdrawal announcement in 12/14/2005 I was following a webpage that was telling that Marcus Gronholm was to be their number one driver with Gigi Galli in the second car. That could be a different interesting outcome.

    Evo 6 was a good car but just look at the WRC 02 and later models. Drivers having to overdrive to try to force the car to do what they want it to do. The footage of the WRC 04 needing several inputs going into a corner. Was that chassis simply too long in the wheel base?

  • @aaronbryan5095

    I wonder if the Evo 7 is when the Lancer Evo became a bit too big and heavy for rallying. If that's the case, Mitsubishi basically reintroduced an old problem that they've already tried to eradicate before by switching from the Galant VR-4 to the Lancer Evo I

    His second title defense in 2003 wasn't anything to brag about either. In this case, it was the inverse of 2001 - a strong start with 3 wins and 1 second place, but a string of retirements in the mid-to-late part of the season (he failed to finish in 6 of the 14 races of the calendar) dropped him down to 6th, 26 points behind champion Petter Solberg. Moreover, the string of retirements from Grönholm also impacted Peugeot's position in the manufacturers standings, losing to its sister brand Citroën by 15 points

    • @jm69eng35
      @jm69eng35 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I might have to cover his season too. His downfall that season is surely interesting (even through if Panizzi's comments on the lack of development of the 206 were correct, Peugeot might have ruined their chances aswell),

    • @ivaneurope
      @ivaneurope 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jm69eng35 I'd argue that by 2003 work had already began on the 206's replacement - the 307 WRC, and perhaps Panizzi was annoyed that all resources were diverted for 2004 rather than trying not to lose ground to Citroën, who kept updating the Xsara, as well as Ford (who unveiled an updated version of the Focus) and Subaru (which began running the facelifted Impreza). Maybe Peugeot saw no need in keep developing a car that was already the top car in WRC for the last 3 seasons and was going to be replaced at the conclusion of the season anyway.

      @jm69eng35 well, Rossel barely beat Gryazin at Monte Carlo in the same car and if Gus Greensmith and Pierre-Louis Loubet couldn't cut it, would Rossel fare any better? In fact, I don't think the Rally1 cars are easy to learn for such drivers. And perhaps it's time for the FIA and the WRC promoters to admit defeat and just make Rally2 the premier class without any unique aerodynamical kits - why charge premium for an aero kit that would be used maybe in 13-14 rallies, when the Rally2 cars are just fine as they are and you can use them everywhere.

    This rally exposed how ridicilous the new pointscoring system is. Lappi won the race, but at the same time he didn't as he hadn't scored the most points in this event

    • @jm69eng35
      @jm69eng35 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I still maintain the opinion that the idea behind this points system is good, but they need to change the amount of points you get on Sunday, whilst potentially scrapping the Power Stage points (or only giving one point for the five quickest drivers).

    • @ivaneurope
      @ivaneurope 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jm69eng35 The idea is good on paper, but the execution is terrible. The points awarded should be done in a way that the overall race winner should not earn less points than a driver finishing lower in the standings. And honestly, I'd rather exclude drivers using the Super Rally (or whatever it's called these days) system from being eligible for Sunday points (but would keep the Power Stage points eligibility) as these drivers were the biggest benefactors from this pointscoring system as they could earn points on recovery rides while being way down the pecking order. Kalle Rovanperä finished 39th, but earned more points than say Oliver Solberg in 5th due to Kalle being 2nd on Sunday alone and had won the Power Stage

    Mitsubishi's success and eventual downfall in the WRC also coincided with the brand's dominance in the Dakar Rally. Between 2001 and 2007 (the last year where the rally actually finished in Dakar) Mitsubishi were undefeated the car class with their Pajero Evolution and Jutta Kleinschmidt, Hiroshi Masuoka, Stephane Peterhansel and Luc Alphand as their winning drivers. And IMO for the Mitsubishi executives in Japan it didn't make sense to make two bespoke cars for WRC and Dakar therefore splitting costs. And since the Group A regulations were working for them really well they decided to continue with the Lancer Evolution Group A cars in WRC and the saved money was redirected to the Pajero Dakar project. That is...until the FIA forced their hand and told them 'Either build a World Rally Car, or bugger off'. And considering the internal upheeval within the WRC program, it was clear that WRC was no longer a priority for Mitsubishi since they kept on winning in Dakar. Also worth mentioning is the loss of the Philip Morris International sponsorship after the torrid 2002 season, taking the Marlboro brand to Peugeot for the next 3 seasons. I'm mentioning this since the Mitsubishi Marlboro liveries are as iconic as the Lancia Martini and Subaru 555 ones and are instantly recognizable. Sure, the cars were still red upon their return as this is Mitsubishi's corporate color, but it wasn't the same without the Marlboro logos. And considering that Peugeot (thanks to the Marlboro sponsorship) and Citroën were also predominantly red, 3 of the 6 manufacturers were using red as their color in 2004-05

    That is his one big moment, much like Luis Garcia Jr's battling Montoya. for position at Chicago in 2000. Or Tarso Marques being the driver that Montoya got a tow off of to win the 2000 Michigan 500. I mean there's been a lot of rolling chicanes. King Hiro, there's Vitolo, Danner, and the AAR cars too

    OMG I didn't expect that I would get so far ahead after qualifying :D. By the way, I thought the advertising was real advertising xD

    The way cars flip and fly in this game is a sight to behold. I've never seen such bizarre physics in any racing game.
