I’ve had weird symptoms for over a year. Fatigue, urinary issues, vision issues, elevated heart rate, GI issues… the list goes on and on. Finally they sent me to get an ultrasound to check my gallbladder and found a mass on my right kidney. They didn’t get a great look though so they’re not sure if it’s a complex cyst or a tumor, but I’m scheduled for a CT scan and some other tests. Trying not to freak out till I know as not all masses on the kidney are that dangerous. Still, with the symptoms my wheels are spinning.

I had a similar issue but That was with Adult Hydrocephlis. It took 15 years to get discovered and resolved. All those doctors that just say you are depressed or imaging issues. I also have stage 3 Kidney Cancer but that was straight forward. Blood in my urine, CT and sent off to my Urologist. They removed my left kidney and we are monitoring to see if it spreads. 1 year down... I know it's a real problem when you don't match the normal medical criteria. Odds are you don't have the issue but it still needs checked and not ignored.

My daughter who is 20 has had very similar to you but keeps getting told it is so many other things. She just married her soldier but I’m really worried about all of this. She is now 10 and a 1/2 hours from me till next year. She has had a cat scan on kidneys and they told her it was swollen from infection and put her on ANTIBIOTICS. Don’t know what to do!

My mother underwent a partial nephrectomy a decade ago to remove a stage II tumor. The procedure lasted approximately five hours, and remarkably, she was discharged after just one night in the hospital. Since then, she has diligently undergone multiple follow-up tests, all of which have shown no signs of cancer recurrence. She has been in remission for a decade now, a testament to her strength and the effectiveness of her treatment. Despite the seriousness of her diagnosis, she never experienced significant pain post-surgery. In fact, her cancer was discovered incidentally when she went to the ER for abdominal pain. My mother considers herself fortunate, and rightfully so. Today, she is cancer-free and enjoying her retirement to the fullest.

Hello there,my friend recently found out she has stage 4 kidney renal cancer(think that's what it's called.) The cancer has gone to her bones she is 40 and can no longer walk, doctors think it probably has spread to her brain,if so,she won't be doing chemo,if there is any advice to help her with the pain please let me know as she was healthy and went to see a doctor and didn't even know she was terminally I'll until 2 weeks ago,she said, people should be warned that they even menopause symptoms people should look out for, then they may have cancer and that information my friend wants others to know. Hopefully, she gets a miracle. Until then,I'll be pushing my friend in her wheelchair so she can see the sun.

I only just recently got diagnosed with Stage 4 Kidney cancer, and I can totally relate to everything that you said in your story there. In the past I had kidney stones, that caused blood in the urine. Every now and again I would go in and get it checked and it was always just kidney stones, so it go to the point I stopped going to the doctors when it was happening because I was afraid of coming across as a worry case and someone not to be taken seriously. Recently the blood in the urine came back, but more often and I also had severe fatigue. I finally go into the ER and get a CT scan and sure enough it's a stage 4 non clear cell carcinoma on my left kidney. I don't know what my prognosis is yet, but I am certainly extremely afraid of what it all means and how much time I do / don't have left. So please don't feel like you did the wrong thing by writing off your symptoms. A lot of people do, and then boom we are hit with this kind of news and all of a sudden we have a deal with that. I really really hope that you're able to find a treatment and care that gives you the absolute best outcome.

As it turned out, the liver resection was taken off the table! My last mri showed the cancer has spread into my lymphnodes, so I don't qualify for resection or transplant! I have no idea what's in store for me! They're going to try immunotherapy!

I had dark urine for months... then drank coconut water and started peeing Heavy blood with "clumps or clots". My right kidney had to be removed due to a tumor.. Biopsy came back as cancer (clear cell). Just got my 2 year check up and I''m good.. Need another 3 years of scans to be sure.. Dark urine or peeing blood.. See a urologist . My primary care dr was sending me down wrong path, Luckily I had a friend who was a urologist, who told me exactly what tests to get done. Which for me was A CT scan, which found the tumor same day.. My primary wanted me to to to ultra sound... which is more for kidney stones. Sometimes its best to skip the primary and go strait to a urologist! My only symptom was dark urine and then blood and "clumps. I felt totally fine..

@katieKicksCancer We’re pulling for you. I’m sure you know this but wanted to mention (just in case): Regarding eGFR & creatinine: I’d recommend no sugary drinks (Cokes, DP, etc) or iced tea. These can be dehydrating which can be hard on your remaining kidney. Creatinine is a muscle break down product so if working out or dehydrated, creatinine will be elevated which makes the eGFR falsely reduced. Also, inflammation is a huge concern so combating it with things like keeping your Vit D level >44 (inflammation is increased if D less than 44). Also, resistance to disease is lessened if D level is <44 (you are more susceptible if <44). Taking Vit D with K2 is preferable, if you must supplement (the vitamin K works with D to keep vascular calcium levels in check). Not sure if you are on any anticoagulant but be aware, Vit K counters warfarin so dosing would need closer monitoring. Taking N-acetylcysteine (NAC) is very beneficial to reduce inflammation. I diabetes is a concern, taking thiamine (&/or Benfotiamine) is recommended. This also reduces inflammation. It’s also beneficial if you consume moderate amounts of carbohydrates (thiamine is a cofactor in carbohydrate metabolism). Finally, I’d like to recommend reading Chronic by Dr Stephen Phillips. He was a practicing physician who almost died from a bacterial infection and had to diagnose himself because no one knew what was wrong with him. He went from practicing as a doctor to being a bed bound invalid and totally reliant on others. He’s now back to treating others and specializes in treating Lyme disease. MD Anderson is the best and I’m glad you go there. Wishing you better health.

Thank you so much for sharing your story. It means the world to me. My mother was diagnosed with Renal Cell Carcinoma on December 18, 1996. That date was also my 26th birthday. She had never had any real symptoms to lead any of us to believe something like cancer was going on. She had been having fatigue and sinus symptoms mainly. In fact, she had been to her PCP for her annual checkup in October and everything checked out fine. The reason she went to the ER the day she found out was she was bleeding heavily with urination. Apparently her tumor had opened up and started bleeding. She had to wait over a week for surgery to remove the kidney and tumor, because of the holidays. I feel like the waiting is what allowed her cancer to spread so quickly. Your blood is filtered through your kidneys and the tumor had opened up and it took 9 days to have the surgery done. At that point in time there weren't many options for treatment of kidney cancer. She passed away June 30, 1997 and my world was forever changed. I ended up donating one of my kidneys in 2001 to a man with polycystic kidney disease. I also went back to nursing school in 2008 and graduated in 2011. I miss her so much. Sorry for the extremely long comment.

Bless you for your comment and all included in it. My mom had blood in her urine last August. Doing the maths, it was seven months ago. Last Monday the hospital called. She will have surgery somewhere during the next two months. She has been coughing hard for the past six months. And this February she started having a severe neuropathic pain on her left leg. To make matters worse, my mom is a doctor. I feel like she has known damn well what's up for months. Denial is a bitch. They are removing her left kidney along with several other urinary tract bits and pieces. I feel terrified. I do hope I have it in me to overcome the pain like you have. In fact, my mom's first reaction was "hey, don't worry, people live just fine with only one kidney"...except I read the consent form of her surgery and it stated clearly 'malignant neoplasy'. I just don't know how much time left she has at this point. She will never tell me. But going by your story, not much. I feel terrified.
