I’m glad you like it 😃 I purchased a bulk collection of trains from someone local to me and I already had 2 opened and 1 unopened emeralds in my collection so I thought you would really appreciate it . Merry Christmas
I'm really looking forward to see what you come up with! I ordered some BigBensBricks wheels, I may just try to do the mod you made a video on. The more I looked at it the more I was like "this is it" 😅
I recently built a sort of Emerald Knight clone to run as a Christmas train for a local event, and after a week of it running continuously, the big thing that I had to pay attention to to make sure it didn't derail was to make sure there was ample slack in the wires between the tender and the locomotive. It's really easy to leave enough slack that you THINK it won't derail, but then it does. There's more motion than you think between the tender and the cab... Your train derailing looks kinda the way mine did, so I'd make sure the wires aren't getting caught on anything.
That was in the back of my mind but I'll be switching to Powered Up anyway. If I do any more testing it will be on a table now that the layout has been taken down. That will make it much easier to see what is going on
Cool, totally awesome! I’ve personally got one, hooked up to good old fashioned 9V in the tender and first class carriage. I also managed to get two extra cars for mine, both fully authentic Lego. Got each of the window frames from Germany for the third class carriage, and got the second class one off of eBay. Also had to remove the internal drive train in the engine to reduce friction for the 9V motors and add a pair of black weighted bricks to the tender for motor to track cohesion. Oh, and the pistons will need to be double thickness to avoid locking when in reverse, specifically that technic piece that the axle sticks through on the piston needs to be doubled up. Well, that’s all, enjoy your new Gresley A3 Steam Locomotive! Rockatoa, Brickticks out! Oh, and Merry Christmas from all of me at Brickticks Engine Works Narrow L-Gauge Engine Builders.
At this point I think I'm going to build BritishBricks version, I doubt I could get anywhere close on my own. Then I will make any necessary modifications to the valve gear. Merry Christmas
Hi from Hamburg, Northern Germany! Just a short tip: I extended my Emerald Knight with some more cars, mainly using bulk part packs from BlueBrixx. They have the classic train windows in several colours, including tan, for a very acceptable price - and 100% compatible to TLG ;)
Yep! It's been brought up in the discord a few times that they are a great source for train windows. If I do end up extending the train I'll probably go that route
I have some experience because I have built myself a few of these in different colors. I have two advices to avoid the derailing issues: Check the "Emerald Night fix" topic on Eurobricks and do the mod what the topic owner did in the first post. Change the 1x5 liftarm (32017) to an 1x7 (32065). After these mods, the derailing will be completely gone.
I've seen some of those posts before, I might play around with it a bit first but in the end it will be completely rebuilt once the parts arrive to make BritishBricks version
as someone who built an extra car for my own emerald night earlier this year, that is one heck of an add-on. I'm sure its been brought up already but those train windows in tan are set exclusive and cost between $15-$30 EACH. I went official and paid the price for it but if I end up extending it further im going 3rd party for sure. That pricing is insane
For sure, everyone in our discord is saying to go with BlueBrixx for the windows. I may shop around and see what's out there but I won't be buying official windows 😬
Happy Christmas. I think the emerald night will find a nice spot in between the other rolling stock. Maybe one day I will get one, but I found a cheap monorail last year so no complaints about finding whishlist sets. Happy building. Grtz, SG from Belgium 🇧🇪
managed to get my hands on one back in 2020, cost me a pretty penny but it was worth it, and at the moment i have it in the place of the Polar Express, and so far the only issue i had with it was that the wheels would lock up but it was fixed after finding the right tutorial, and i think it's the best engine in the collection
I also happened upon the Emerald Night at a point where I never expected to own it, but unlike you, I had already built a yellow and orange palette-swapped replica (but as a 4-8-4 Northern instead of a 4-6-2 Pacific) before I had got my hands on it. I'm planning on building BritishBricks's mod in dark blue because it's such a classy color, with the prototype in question being (IIRC) 4473/60104 "Solario", since that one actually wore that shade of blue in BR service
Nice! I had planned on making a color swapped version at some point but I guess now I don't need to 😅. Although I have spent quite a lot on upgrades thus far
@BatteryPoweredBricks aside from motorizing, what have you done with yours? All I've done is smooth out the parts with 1x1 "cheese" slopes next to the tiles on plates on the smoke deflectors and the running board next to the boiler with those 1x2 bow slopes for aesthetics. If you wanna see what it looks like I'll drop a pic in the Discord
issue i had with mine was the piston rods would bind up using only one of the hole parts as support for the piston rod. i doubled it up to 2 parts on each side which helps a lot!
That would be quite the challenge, I'm probably not the best person to attempt it😅. I see some amazing stuff on the internet these days and I have no idea how they do it
Yeah I think it was the little doors on the tender and the wire for the motor causing the derailments. I didn't try too hard to fix it since I'll be switching to Powered Up along with other mods anyway
Hey just the coach is worth quite a lot! Believe me I've been pricing them 😅. I'll probably end up going with third party windows to save most of the cost
I don't have 1092. I'd love to make reviews of all the DACTA sets but I haven't gotten around to it despite wanting to for years. I imagine they wouldn't do very good on TH-cam so I guess I subconsciously stick to topics that will reach more people
At this point I have too many trains and a few commuter trains already. I do plan on modifying the Emerald Night in future videos though. Merry Christmas
He sent it back in November and it got here about a week and a half ago. I didn't even make the connection to Christmas until I was finishing the video up 😅. Merry Christmas!
I wonder how much you had to pay for this sucker?? 😂 Cuz i got mine, around the same time that it actually was released, & have had mine, ever since! Lol
Well like I said I didn't pay anything for it, the viewer who sent it got it in a large lot of Lego trains and he already had a few Emerald Night sets so he decided to send this one to me

It will have a good home here, the wheels are already in motion to upgrade it 😁. Merry Christmas!
Extremly Nice gift
What a legend! Best of luck with the mods! I’m now exciting to start remodelling my Emerald Night again. Not going to hold back this time…

I love your MOC a lot man! I re-made it in Bricklink as well for later! 😅
That is the best LEGO train there is. The Maersk is up there too. And you got an extra carriage??? Dang, that is very cool. Congrats, man!
Wow! The set that should have had add on sets for the additional cars. Does look better with the extra car
Might need to make a few more 😁. I know the windows are expensive but I've heard Bluebrixx sells them in tan
@ 5 bucks plus 35 shipping lol
@@BrickTsar beats paying 14€ for one 😅

Holy shit that's an expensive gift
Like 800 bucks

This is really something, what a gift with an extra wagon even! I'm not going to lie, but I'm jelly 😅 God Jul Battery!
God Jul! (I had to google it 😅)
That's an amazing gift! I'd be speechless too if I got that. If I collected LEGO trains, the Emerald Night would be the centerpiece.
Wow! Those Aussies sure are generous 😂 EVERYONE needs a Emerald Night
I don’t think I can give one to everyone 😂
Awesome! Well deserved.

Yep that's the biggest thing from what I've seen online. I'll be rebuilding mine and I think the pistons will be different anyway
Great vid! you should make motorized hopper/dumper cars next.
That would be quite the challenge, I'm probably not the best person to attempt it😅. I see some amazing stuff on the internet these days and I have no idea how they do it
@@BatteryPoweredBricks yeah i have seen super complex stuff as well definitely think you could do it but understand the challenge is difficult.
I extended the tender and put 2 x 9volt motors under it to pull 5 wagons 😉
Super gift. Against derailing: Just remove the rubbers... Very simple.
Do you mean on the drive wheels? How on earth does it get enough traction to move without them?
I've heard people say that but I will need the traction. I'm probably going to switch to third party wheels anyway and do some other mods
I know, not very original to dump The Orient Express, but looking at this...yeah...
I wish I had an Emerald Night.
It's one I've always wanted and never expected to own. It really took me by surprise
Remove the brickbuilt thing between the wheels in the tender
Yeah I think it was the little doors on the tender and the wire for the motor causing the derailments. I didn't try too hard to fix it since I'll be switching to Powered Up along with other mods anyway
Close the doors that Will probably help
In a bulk lot I found a coach and I think 75% of the tender. Parts of the locomotive were in it but not much else.
Hey just the coach is worth quite a lot! Believe me I've been pricing them 😅. I'll probably end up going with third party windows to save most of the cost
Are you going to make a commuter train
Can you make a review of set 1090 and 1092 ?

@BatteryPoweredBricks I found the instructions on-line for 1090 and 1092 in pdf
Hey battery power bricks are you going to make a commuter train and merry Christmas
At this point I have too many trains and a few commuter trains already. I do plan on modifying the Emerald Night in future videos though. Merry Christmas
Hey battery power bricks do you have a spike prime
I don't, I have the 51515 Robot Inventor set but haven't touched it in ages
Wow!! Now that’s an amazing gift!! Merry Christmas to you!
He sent it back in November and it got here about a week and a half ago. I didn't even make the connection to Christmas until I was finishing the video up 😅. Merry Christmas!
No way you have the emerald night awesome please make a video for cheap emerald night wagons
I do want to get more cars for sure. I may end up getting windows from BlueBrixx, that should make them way cheaper to part together
Merry Christmas i hope santa get you a lego train set
Apparently Santa is from Australia 😅
@BatteryPoweredBricks no he's not he is from the north pole
Close the doors that Will probably help
Yeah when watching the footage back I thought about the doors on the tender
Nice
