About modifying and driving rc-cars. I prefer budgetclass projects and it often lands in crawling and trailing as I live in the countryside of Sweden.
MN82 just a change of wheels
Well, I couldn´t resist the MN82 either! 😊 Such a beautiful body and decent function to a very moderate pricetag. But the stock wheels are not good enough, to say the least. Here is a short video of the car in wet grass, straight out of the box.

Couldn´t resist buyimg a C64-1 but wanted it to be a little more capable in terrain. I made a flip front for front mounted battery, much better weight distribution. A 370 motor from WPL 2-speed gearbox was added, fits perfect, just had to press the pinion about 2 millimeters more in on the axle. Soft kit tyres on wider rims and the stock radio/esc. I wanted to try the WPL Res v3 radio and soundcard on my modified B16 with tipping bed, because the winch control seemed like a good way to control the tipping mechanism and it is 3s capable. Does it work? Yes, very good, I must say. The winch control is perfect for tipping and the 3s capability is needed to power the truck in terrain, as it is quite heavy and has bigger wheels than the origina...

The stock wheels on my WPL-based rc Toyota FJ40 had a nice scale look but didn´t do too well on wet and slippery surface. I changed to slightly bigger, wider and softer wheels, meant for Fayee FY003/004 an what a difference. You almost can´t believe it´s the same car with WPL rtr electronics and 180 motor from Fayee FY001.
Rc Toyota FJ40 flatbed = WPL B14/JJRC Q65/MN45 hybrid

I had some spare parts: A chassis from JJRC Q65, axles and radio from WPL B14, cab from MN45 and a 180 motor with gearbox from Fayee FY01. Nice opportunity to build a radio-controlled miniature of a classic Toyota FJ40 with flatbed. I am really happy with the result. Not least that it is really good off-road despite the small 180 engine and the simple electronics. Plus it didn't cost me anythin...

I bought myself one more (for the second time) JJRC Q65 to modify. I had an idea of modifying a WPL B14 to a lower profile, not exactly a lowrider, but low and stable. Thank you very much, really glad you like it! Yes, the gears change through a separate miniservo, that is supplied with the gearbpx, if you buy a WPL 2-speed gearbox. So you need a 3-channel radio to controll it, the gears change with channel 3. 😊😊

E outra pergunta, qual bateria você usa? Muito obrigado a atenção 🙏🏻
Your vehicle is still noisy. I also had the same noise after initially replacing it with a metal gearbox. It was caused by the shift rod being pushed too far and tight. I changed the position of the C-shaped internal part that pushes the gear or the arm that the external servo pushes so that it is not tight, and shortened the return spring or replaced it with a softer one (ex: ballpoint pen spring) to eliminate the noise. It's an old video, but if you still have this vehicle, please give it a try. I am Korean and English is not my native language, so the translation may be strange, so please understand.
Thank you for the tip, I will see if this works. I still have the car and drive it some times. It still drives very well and I don´t think it´s too noisy, but you may be right. Thanks again, I´ll se what I can do! 👍👍😊😊

@@Georgieframe thank you🥰 The width of the tire increased and it felt very nice✨
Can I keep the same original board/esc from the c64 for the 370 engine?
Yes, you can if you use a "mild" 370 motor like the standard WPL 370, that is normally used in the 2-speed gearbox. It works very good, with excellent torque and low speed control, at least in my car. I don't know though if it works with a high speed 370 motor, like the black RBR/C 52000 rpm motor. It may burn or simply cut off with such a motor - but with the WPL 370, or similar, it's perfect! 😊😊
Yeah, you put some weight in the tire and that need more torque to keep it move...
@@TheSprul85 Yeah, that's right!
Is 370 motor faster than the original motor?
Hello! No, the standard WPL 370 motor, meant for 2-speed gearbox, is a little slower, but has much more torque and better low speed performance, all with the stock electronics. There are faster 370 motors though but I dont know how they will work with the stock radio/esc as they consume more amps. The esc may burn or just cut off due to overwork. hi! just started in rc and this was really helpful and inspiring for me to start modifying it in performance instead of aesthetics. may i know what are the things that i need to buy in order to successfully convert mine into a brushless one? first time playing with the performance so kinda scared to destroy it
Hello! Thank you for watching and commenting and for your interest! It sounds like you have bought an MN 99s or similar car. To convert into brushless you need to buy some stuff, that´s clear... You need a brushless motor with esc and a radio to control it (the stock radio equipment does not work with brushless). I use a WPL 2-speed gearbox, which I would recommend, for both low and high speed performance. To control the gearbox the radio must have at least 3 channels. I have replaced the plastic gears with metal ones. You also need to replace the plastic driveshafts with metal ones. The stock lighting with turn signals and reverse lights will not work with a new radio so you must replace it also, if you want lighting on the car. All this will cost you a little more than the car itself... If you are into the hobby for a while you can use the radio to control several cars - I control 4 to 6 cars with the same transmitter and several receivers, which holds the cost down. Here are links to equipment that is usable to convert the car. @@NGDZ You may be right about it, but I'm not that sensible! I still use the 4500 kv in the car, but now with a 2-speed gearbox and it works great, both for speed and crawling. 😀👍
That is awesome what wheels are those?
Thanks, glad you like it! The wheels are widened by glueing aftermarket metal rims to WPL V1 rims. You can see at 2,05 in the video how it´s done. The tyres I use are soft WPL V1, the kit type tyres, with added foams to keep the profile better. A link to the metal rims I use: www.aliexpress.com/item/10000365163355.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.11.d03c18029QvUId
How are you liking the 370 motor in it? Thinking about starting there with mine?
Hello! I can recommend it! I use a wpl standard 370 motor from a 2-speed gearbox (in which I´ve put a brushless motor) and I am pleasantly surprised with how it performs. I just had to press the pinion about 2 millimeter further in on the shaft, then it fits perfect in the gearbox. With the stock radio/esc it has fantastic low speed control and the power is more than enough for climbing the steepest obstacles. It´s not fast but for crawling and driving in tough terrain it´s perfect! 👍👍😊😊
@@Georgieframeto put a 2 speed transmission in this, the remote and esc would have to be upgraded correct? Sorry for all the questions, this is my first build and I’m trying to figure out what all I need to order.
@@Im4evergrateful70 Yes, to put a 2-speed transmission in you must upgrade to at least 3-channel radio. There are some different options. Personly I like Dumbo RC 6-channel radio, which can also control winch and other extras. Then you also need a separat esc, preferably one that can handle 3s battery, if you want more speed. Also WPL RES-V3 radio works very good. It comes with a sound module, can shift gears and control a winch, also turn lights and sound on and off. It has combined receiver/esc unit and it can take 3s battery if you want. A downside is that with 2s battery it´s a little less powerful than a separate 40 or 60 amp esc. Good luck with your upgrades! 😊😊
@@Georgieframe Thank you for the information. I think I’m just going to start a single speed, but went ahead and bought a 2 speed transmission as well. I just got back into RC’s and the technology has taken giant leap, so I’m playing a lot of catch up learning.
@@Im4evergrateful70 So it is! I bought my first rc-car in 1989 (Kyosho Hi-Rider Corvette, it´s still working!) and very much has changed since then! 👍👍😊😊
Hi can i use a 380 or 390 brushed motor on that wpL gearbox
@@TomWest-ir5vq Hello! The simple answer is NO! I tried to use a brushed 390 on it and it got so hot that the built in cooling fan melted and the motor collapsed. The gearing was simply to high. I recommend using a WPL 2-speed gearbox instead, it's much better!
@@Georgieframe what about a 380 brushed motor
@@TomWest-ir5vq Wouldn´t recommend that either. This was a fun experiment when i modified an aftermarket singlespeed gearbox to use first a brushless 370 motor and then a brushed 390. None of them actually worked well, because the gearing was way too high. These gearboxes are made for mounting a 370 motor with reduction between the motor and gearbox, which means power at low speed but no high speed at all. If you want speed I recommend a WPL 2-speed gearbox, which kan take all kinds of 370 motors - brushless. normal brushed or high speed brushed motor, and deliver both low and high speed. Another option that can also work is getting an all metal gearbox (singlespeed) for D12, you can find it for example on Aliexpress, that can take different 370-type motors. This gearbox only have output för rear wheel drive but it can rather easily be modified with a longer outputshaft to support 4 wd.

I have a question. What’s the purpose of changing out the pinion gear ? Is that the only way the brushless motor will work?
