WPL B16 Radical rebuild of the powertrain for better offroad driving

  • I thought a 280 motor and HG radio with 40 amps esc would do the trick with my WPL B16 RTR. It didn´t! Worst problem is the construction where the power to the second rear axle is delivered through the first axle with a secondary pinion. It steals too much power and if not properly adjusted it can simply lock both rear axles. That´s what happened on this car. The solution is to give each rear axle its own driveshaft. I have done it on two other cars but this time I used a slightly different method. I´m very pleased with the result!

    good morning. The key to its high hill-climbing ability is the modification of the drive system.

    brilliant mod! twin output gearbox seems a great idea and suits the truck well. Very authentic principal. Want to see and 8x8 fully upgraded next 👍🍺🇬🇧

      Thank you Carl! I more or less copied this from a full size truck, also some kind of home build. 8x8 - well I have a Eachine EAT01 (Oshkosh HEMTT 6x6) that I may upgrade to 8x8 some day. We´ll see! 😊😊

    Once again, you have shown us all how to redesign a WPL drive train with all your customary ingenuity and panache!
    I hope someone fron WPL watches your work.

    yeah thats way better, i like the way you fixed it, very cool. i got the upgraded pass though axle from WPL , but your way works just as good, maybe even better. they are fun, go from can't climb anything, add a few mods and it starts to be more usable , the WPL B16 was our Fist WPL truck (it actually got me back into RC after almost 10 years away from the hobby) we found it because we used to own the Real trucks M35a2, we sold the last one 2 days before the b16 came in the mail LOL

    • @Georgieframe
      @Georgieframe  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks very much! The upgraded pass through axle is a fine design! The only disadvantage is, I think, that there is still one 3 millimeter pinion shaft in the first axle that must deliver power to both axles. Maybe a weak point. I feel that a separate driveshaft to each axle is more reliable under heavy stress. Nice to hear you have owned the real thing. I like watching videos with the M35A2, that´s also why I like the B16, and the bobbed B14, very much! 😊😊

      @@Georgieframe we bought them from the military auctions , from $800 - $2000 USD , bought and sold probably 10, wanted to make a Bobbed Deuce,
      also by having so many military truck on the property the Military would use our yard as a marker for military training mainly with low flying A-10 warthog , they would do steep turns right above us LOL,
