E183 Easy & Scenic ADV Route in The Exchange
We have lots of dumb and hard routes being added to The GPS Exchange, now we need to add some that will appeal to those who, through their own intelligence, don't find themselves battered and bruised multiple times per year. Something on the easier side.
Sure, the weather was not great, but what a great opportunity to try out some new tires, and our Leatt ADV suits!

E181 Pushing the BMW with Camping Gear
มุมมอง 1.7K14 วันที่ผ่านมา
I may not be the person to properly push a BMW to its limits, but I think I do represent the general population. This route, done solo and with camping gear, gets into some challenging terrain for a GSA. I hope you enjoy the stunning trails, and beautiful scenery.

Well, it all worked out in the end, but I had no business being in there. Full camping gear. We need it sometimes. Other times, like this, we go out to make sure our system is tight!

We set out to do an established route, but a crap ton of snow got in our way, oh, and a broken bike frame!
E177 A Classic ADV Ride in British Columbia
มุมมอง 2K21 วันที่ผ่านมา
You can get the proper, and clean, GPS tracks for this ride from DualSportBC via The GPS Exchange. Best of all, as tracks get updated, or supplemented with interesting side missions, they will just appear in your phone, ready to be explored.
E176 Actual Suspension Tune

Every so often you meet somebody and just know they are going to play a significant role in your life. Justin from Ruckus Suspension, and Vernon Motorsports, is one of those people. He is super knowledgable, friendly, and has only good vibes to spread. Although not in this video, Justin is SUPER FUN to ride with, and watch. He definitely puts us in our Chimp crates.

มุมมอง 1.8Kหลายเดือนก่อน
A difficulty 3 route is a real happy place for us. Safe, challenging enough, and if feeling rambunctious we can play with the terrain a bit. This route ticks all of the boxes. First time in Moab and able to handle a little spice? This may be a great place to get warmed up.

My Motto Guzzi did similar. Stopped for lunch on top of a mountain lookout alone and no restart...... hmm que the music for being a bears lunch.... Kickstand swith mount broken, took swith apart and got bike to start. Switch now for the last couple years has been zip tied to my frame never to be used as manufacturers set up ever again. Its like these things should be the 1st to be bypassed or something 🤷♂️
In these riding conditions, life is more easy with T7 or is relatively the same? I want to upgrade my t7 to an 1090.
Years ago being young and dumb I thought I would ride chicken corners. I rode up to it and turned around. NFW. 😊😅😂
Phenomenal vids, the best part is that they are not overwhelmingly full of effects and edited. Thanks for taking the time to share!
For sure, great vids, beautiful scenery, the right medicine for the soul!
Now you two gentlemen are so cool, love the commentary, the great attitude and honest advise. Thanks for taking the time to share your vids. Stay safe and ride on, keep the videos coming!
I gotta get on TMA more..... just too comfortable and used to BRMB. Gotta start using both
7:19 absolutely loving these drone shots too!!
2:16 love the orange Mosko set!!!!! 🍊
Love the idea of having the map show directions such as Keep Right!!!! Very cool
Love that rail trail! I’ve done it in both directions, not a super fast trail but lots of cool features! Loving the drone shots too!!! 21:37
A sketchy bridge indeed!! Lol
17:40 hope Machine Gun Kelly’s all good!!
Classic symptoms of a wonky kickstand switch. Serious off roading requires that you eliminate it or at least know how to disable it on the trail. Well done guys.
Any TMA love for us poor Android slobs yet? 👍👍
Devout Android user here - TMA Mobile works great, just have to learn it now. Search for it again and you will find it.
Awesome, I am in Vancouver on a Scram 1200... would love to ride with you boys one day!
It is such a sweet machine!
Former 890 Adventure R owner and current R1250 GSA owner here. Your assessment of the the KTM being fantastic off-road but less than stellar on-road is spot on and exactly how I felt about mine. The GS/GSA on the other hand is fantastic on road or as a tourer and more than holds it's own off-road. IMHO, the GS is better off-road than the 890 was on road and that makes it the better all-around option in my book. Luckily I have a nicely kitted 500 as well should I really want to hit the hard off-road stuff which allows for a larger spread in capabilities on the adventure bike I choose to have in my stable, enter the BMW.
Nice garage, and a wining combination! I am currently Husky 300 2T, KTM 690, and 1250 GSA. Cheers!
@@DirtChimps I had a 300, sold it to a buddy when some of my local trails closed. I'll grab another if we move.
Nice drone work boys!
I grew up here not having owned an umbrella nor rain jacket. The only bad part was when some people built their house on clay and slid down the hill eventually. I don't know how the trees stay green - especially after the bug attacks.

That looked like a lot of gear on the 690. How much did the handling change?
It was not too mad. I have a pre-load adjuster and it did a nice job. I have been able to prune things down a LITTLE bit. Losing the large extra pod thing on the back of the beavertail.
With all that gear is in still a motorcycle? Mini motorhome maybe?
A question for Mike! Where did you find the Tech-Air Off Road? I haven't found them in Canada for purchase yet.
Mainjet Motosports
Thanks for the nice video , I think 1090 is amazing bike, even in 2024 is a good compromise between 790/890 with many problems and 1290 so expensive and more heavy . want buy him
great video man
It has been suggested that I stay on with EPIC GPS Adventures and that we get our Executive Director started who can handle the day to day and "People Stuff". Having an ED would be a great relief at this point, and we think we have a solid plan. Rest assured we are not going anywhere. The routes will move forward, that's the important part.
Amazing video! I have watched ALOT of your rides and this one was top 5 for me, just cause I ride a DR650 as well, so to see you following that bike was an extra bonus. Love it that you can just chat and ride without missing a beat. Keep em coming!
Everyone loves a well kitted man.
Do you have plans to port to android?
Hi! That's an Android phone on my bars. :)
@@DirtChimps so is it still in beta then. i was trying to see if it was on the play store and didnt see it.
@@asacross8472 It's live. Here you go. play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.thatmotoapp.tmamobile It's under TMA Mobile.
@@DirtChimps Sweet. I don't know why it wasn't coming up. Thanks
Bonus points for riding on the 690 stock seat - made of the finest Austrian plywood😬
Too funny. You know, I keep spending money on Seat Concept, but aside from replacing MX bike seats on snowbikes, I have not found that much of an improvement. I would be open to trying another brand, but never hear of others.
@@DirtChimps - Might just be the nature of dirt bike seats - encourages getting on the pegs :)
Lovely ride! Totally agree on wanting a "keep left/right" option, plus being able to link multiple routes with their level ratings would be cool. For my AT/me, would be cool to cover D4 as red, D3 as yellow, D2 green on an overall map view. Have you considered about ages of rides - ie: someone said it was a D3 three years ago vs last week? I wish that was an option in the BRMB maps for their logging roads; some of their data is REALLY old.
Interesting notes. We have built standardized colours into TMA. It would be killer to do it the way you suggest. Make D4 red for me, etc. We have Trail reports 70% done and they will be used to challenge update trail difficulty ratings. A couple of our local trails have gone from D3 to D4 this year due to heavy rains. Spicy! We are working hard to fight and and stale data. We have seen it in a few apps that appear to have not thought about keeping things current when they designed things. :) I appreciate your insightful comment. Cheers.
Love this riding! Canada right? Coming there to camp and ride. Europe is so shit for this
lol, this is an old video. The banana windscreen did not last more than a ride or two. Yes, Canada! Come on over!
Thank you!
What does BDR mean?
BDRs are Backcountry Discovery Routes, the USA equivalent. Look up Ride BDR. Cheers
Love your rides!! And that section at the 14:00 min mark looked like a 4 for a GSA. The camera doesn’t show the real view. Well done! Would really like to hear more of your play by play in your videos on what your body position is in when it gets “Spicy” etc. Maybe even your choice of riding modes on the GSA. Keep the great content coming. Very inspiring content which presents super well.
Interesting ideas. Riding mode is always Enduro Pro when offroad. Never though about it much. I suppose I could share more about what I am doing technique wise. I'll give it a try in an upcoming video. Thanks!
Very nice Scott
Great narrative through the ride. I found it very instructive, especially having done similar paths like this on my GS (and having recently suffered for it!)
Oh dear! The thought of going down on this bike is really scary for me to think about. I hope all is well with you.
@@DirtChimps Bruised ribs. Already much better. The irony was I was told we were doing the big bike friendly route. Had I known they changed their minds (or got mixed up) I would have taken the little CRF.
@@mattguzzim1744 Shucks. Sorry to hear about that. Bruised ribs can be one of those that nag you everywhere. I hope it was not too bad. I think you would agree that communication about anticipated difficulty is important! I certainly have felt misled by others who said they were going on a big bike ride, then I show up on a 990 Monster and they show up on 500s. Geesh!
Now I know all the things my GS can do that I will not be doing with it😂
Glad you had a fun trip! I'd forgotten about the washout on the C&W rail grade :/ We were camped at the north end of Whatshan lake the night before you got there, you must have missed us by only a few hours :)
Oh, that's so wild! Would have been neat to have seen you out with your pedal bike packer buddies! You guys are cray!
Is TMA primarily a Canadian based app for navigation?
Is that a dent in the tent on the right side near the seat? Any cool stories about how you earned that?
No dents, just marks from my riding pants on the tank. At least that is what I am guessing that you are seeing. :P
@@DirtChimps Dang, was hoping for a gnarly off story haha.
Great stuff as always Scott!
I doubt I'd ever be able to skip the old rail bed from Christina Lake to Castlegar on my bike. Looking at your tracks, you were able to make it all the way through? Last August they had a huge washout just south of the provincial park that they were fixing; I am glad to see that it appears to be fixed already. Thanks for sharing, Scott!
I wonder if that is the stream crossing area? It looked rather disturbed and recently repaired.
@@DirtChimps the one at 19:36 looks to be something else. But if there was another one, most likely. Man, now I want to go camping out there this weekend.
Wow. That section from @09:23 - well done.
Congrats on taking the big white whale on trails that 98% of GSs will NEVER see!
Wonderful route and bravo for tackling those 3’s with the GSA👍
I’ve always enjoyed your content but OMG I’m over hearing you talk about your app over and over again. I doubt you’ll stop but I just may.
A lot of effort and time to film and edit this content and I think they have earned the right for some self-promotion. Also interesting to learn about the features they are offering and working on for an app that appears to offer unique value for the adventure community.
@@paulvanhout9695 some? It’s multiple times every video the last dozen I’ve watched. Maybe some are maybe some aren’t but I’m not interested in switching apps. Perhaps a dedicated TMA channel where it’s expected.
@@Captndarty - Fair enough. I am OK with the current format, but understand that others are not. Cheers
I have added 4 amazing routes to the GPS Exchange in the last 48 hours. It would be a shame for people to not know how to find them, how it works, etc.
@@DirtChimps personally, I love that you do share them, particularly for those on your GS as they better match me and my skills on my africa twin!
Nice to have a map knowing it's permitted to ride there. I haven't lost too much time detouring washouts and farmland, but I'm always prepared to camp. I think I could do this on my '79 can-am Qualifier with a fuel cell.
Thanks for bringing us along, Scott. Love the commentary as usual.
