How I class my cars & how to Race with low performers
Alright, This one might be a little all over the place but its an explanation of how Carrera cars stack up on my track. Specifically the DTM & GT3 class. I also attempt to explain how I go about making things even and fair on the race track. Enjoy, or cry, whatever emotion comes first

@@boykinater Thanks Man. I've melted two cards so far but still married....for now lolll
Hi Joe. I had to grin a little about your classification. Actually all those cars are good and fast runners, but each is different in its behaviour. Means you gotta approach to each one different and get to know its pros and cons. The KTM is a tailhappy car, and has those terrible new rims by Carrera, where the inner rim-ring is smaller than the outer rim-ring, but you can do improovements to it. Very simple without using the SI kit. Just remove the axxles with the tires from your Porsche 911 and mount them on the KTM. It should fit and you have a different ball game there. I do not run Silicons and have a reason for that. Try different tires, like rubber, or PU's, like you guys got Paul Gage tires. The Aston Martin is a pretty good runner, so I don`t know why you are having problems with it? The Ferrari 488 is a hack of a fast car! Why is it in your b-class? My Aston Martin is very loud, but it runs pretty good. I need to check why, but didn`t have the time yet. Important factors you should keep in mind is, that Carrera Motors have much scatterings and the parts are all made in China in a low-cost production line. But they are made for average customers, who don`t know a damn thing about slotcars and their kids do not, too. If you are more interrested in this hobby, you become more advanced, but most still think, that Carrera is not a toy. But it is and this is how it is categorized in Germany and other Countires here in Europe. There is no word for slotcar here in the German language. We say Rennbahn, or Carrera Bahn and everyone knows what you mean. It is a toy brand and I think you guys in Northern America in special, can`t get over this fact and are stubborn in the thought, that this is not a toy. Well, that is up to you guys and I leave you on that trip. Makes no sense to correct someone, who doesn`t see the trees, if he stands in front of a forrest. I got all cars, besides the BMW, which is in my opinion too heavy and I might get one in a sell out, but all others I got as well, also in different liveries and all of them run excellent, if you are moving in Carrera patterns. I do run with magnets and it makes no sense to me, to run without them. They were made for that and everyone who does remove them has to put on PU`s, that they will give you a good driving result. I stick with rubber though. Makes no sense to me, because I don`t run with the flow, who swears on this and that, just to be with a group of peoples, who think they are the experts. Most of them are just fooling themselves though and the ones who profit, is the aftermarket. If you are a home-racer, why invest so much money for all that, that is not necessary? If you get a Frankenslot, or SI guide-keel, that makes sense and is the first thing I do, when I get a Carrera car. Than I run the tires for a while, until they do not grip good anymore. At that point, I grind them on a piece of sandpaper and that is simply it. If I want a real good slotcar, than I get other ones, becuse the money you invest into so much tunning parts for Carrera and what not, adds up to the amount, Revoslot, Scaleauto or Thunderslot for instance do cost. Many tend to flow with others, that do this and that, but what for? To please others? To be a circle of experts, who are fools?! If you reached that bottom line, you are good to go and this experience will hit you sooner, or later. Be flexible in terms of the tires and if you are looking for good replacement tires, look for NSR and BRM rubber tires, for instance. If you need informations, remember what I wrote you in the e-mail I sent off to you. This, I can and already offered you. All you need to do, is reach out and maybe you get what you are looking for. 🙂
@@bomamo9620 Thanks Bo. Carrera Bahn!? I love it. I will call it that from now on :) Carrera is very much a toy, and the motors will have a variance for sure. On my track, this is how those cars are classed though and everyone will have different experiences. I am just sharing my experience with TH-cam. The KTM suffers from a few things but that was not the point of my video. Unfortunately I don't have a spare Porsche axle to use in the XBOW but I will try it out. Thanks for the tip and thanks for your comment. Talk soon
@@IrrerasCarrera Hey joe, Bahn means lane, or track in English. Rennbahn means racetrack. 🙂 I know that the KTM was not the point. THat was my mustard on top 🙂 Just take the axxles from your Porsche off and snap`em on the KTM. Give it a ry. I used the axxle-replacement kit from Carrera Item-No.: 20091131 wich is for the Porsche 911 RSR No. 93 on KTM you got. It fitted better than the other Porsche 911 replacment kits. On my Liquid Moly KTM I used the Porsche 911 RSR "Proton Competition, No.88" kit No.: 20091039, which did fit better on it. Both run excellent now and I use the NSR 5208 Supergrip tires on the rear-axxles. It/they run/s better with them, but the Carrera tires Item-No.: 20089800 are the original replacements. Those Carrera tires fit on the McLaren, the Mercedes AMG, Ford GT Race car and some other ones. So withe the NSR 5208`s you got a bunch of cars, that will take `em on the rear axxle. If you can`t get the replacement parts in Canada, let me know and I will give a hint, so your relatives in Germany can get them for you maybe. The NSR`s you should get over there. Carrera parts are a menace to get over there. I am a Carrera Club member and get 20% off for replacemnets. But the axxle for the Porsche 911 RSR No. 93 is not available at the Carrera Shop. I don`t know why yet, but I`ll find out. At other shops they are 6,30 €`s. I pay for the axxles at Carrera 3,57 €`s instead of 5,95 €`s in common. If you need something of their replacements, let me know. I don`t know how much the shipping costs will be, but that would come on top. We get squarred away with the money somehow. The axxle-kits also contain a gear pinion. I did dig your experience and all fine Brother. My Carrera cars are from different time periods. From 1999 until today and there are quite some differences with the newer ones from 2017 on. They are louder and more heavy. Also, they have more production failures. The Carrera tires are a topic for itself. The cars before 2017 are just fine and don`t have the noise, like the newer ones do. My favorites are the Aston Martin V12, Corvette C6.R, Porsche 997 RSR and the best ones are the Audi R10 TDI and the Peugeot 908 HDI from 2008. Those two are the most fastest and they are quite as hack. You cannot hear them doing noises like the Corvette C7.R for instance. If you can get one of those mentioned cars, go for it. You won`t regret it a single moment! Theonly problem with the Audi and Peugeot is, that you can`t get the original tires by Carrera anymore and spare-parts are aslo no longer available, like most elder cars. Carrera stops to produce and sell them in a time span of 10 years and then, they are gone. So if you need replacement parts for your cars, get some the next 2 to 8 years,. Than you will have a chance on it. Keep it real Joe and stay in the slot. 🙂
@@bomamo9620 will keep in touch for sure 😉
You definitely put alot of thought into this... hope you find time for some fun thru out all this analytics. Cheers
@@Dafingers1 Thanks bud. Dont worry, I get my fun time lol
I have that same Mann Filter Audi R8 LMS. Out of the box, it was faster and handled better than all but one of my other cars and they’d already had their all gears lapped and Paul Gage tires on. Once I lapped its gears and upgraded its tires, none of my other Carrera cars stand a snowball’s chance of catching it. (Not even the 911 RSR that was originally faster.)
I had to add magnets to my Heart of Racing Aston Martin as well. It was SO tail happy!
@@wjspade I believe Carrera has its top performers and that they will all vary from eachother. They also make some low performers as well and those have their place. I'm hoping my videos can create some awareness within the community as to how the cars perform in general. Thanks for sharing :)
@@IrrerasCarrera I like your idea of making classes based solely on speed/handling. I currently divide them by racing league, but that’s just too hit or miss. Carrera definitely makes some cars that are speed demons and others that are just pigs. As long as the handling is at least predictable, those pigs are awesome for kids who are just getting started! I’m gonna start ranking my cars and completely rethink my classification system. This video was very helpful- keep up the good work! 👍🏼
Like Harry all the ratio and numbers makes my head spin. Maybe when I get my track set up I’ll think about all that stuff. It’s kinda like the ackerman angle used for automobiles front wheels to the rear axle pinion only reverse 🤔. Informative video not near as entertaining as drinking and racing live 😂
Thanks Ron, duly noted lolll
Nice video! I know we spoke before, I think if you get some super tires you can make the slow cars work on par with your faster ones that have silicone tires on them maybe just by getting the super tires that fit the stock wheels. Also if you used the system I came up with when I was working with super tires my Super Z II wheel and the 1 though 6 A Tire system made for those wheels you can press them on your cars stock axles and run all different height rear tires and time your cars to make them kind of work all the same if you really wanted to.. just have to try it and see how it goes.
Absolutely Steve! I have been pestering Warren @lightekslots to get me some. Id rather put the upgrades on cars I prefer driving. I also came across a Carrera car that would allow me to pull off the wheels. If this works, then I wouldn't need the axle kit upgrade....to start. The KTMs suffer from smaller wheels and a heavy chassis. They are a complete mess. Thanks for posting :)
@@IrrerasCarrera I got mine working nice and could get it to work even better you need to sand the you know what out of the tires to make them smaller so this Xbow gets more downforce from the magnet.. Mine is running real nice now if I just sand them down a bit more it probably can be competitive to the faster carrera cars that just have the tires slightly trued. 👍👍
Thanks for posting Joe .....my brain hurts ,but I enjoyed watching ...Interesting on that ratio thing but I dont understand Ratios so thats that 😬😂

Thanks. I might need to lay off the energy drinks before I hit record though😁
The ideal ratio is between 0,6 and 0,7. That's width to length ratio of the measurements you described, that's when you have the best grip. And no it's not backyard science!!!!!!!
Thanks Nico. My methods are back yard science is what I meant lol. Thanks for the clarification. You're the best!!!

Hi there good video. What is th Quick-Slicks Pen for? can't find it on the 'net - whats it for please?
Thank you. The pen is just to write down notes and stuff. I got it when I ordered tires from Slot Car Corner :)
I have two of these controllers that Ive bought new and both of them have a extremely short wireless range. Or even when close to the receptor if Incover the controller with one hand, it interferes with the signal. 😢
Ok, it seems like there's not enough power getting to the transmitter. There could also be some interference coming from other devices like cameras or certain LED lights. Neon lights as well or possibly another wireless device that might be sharing the same channel off the 2.4ghz of the controller. You should probably contact Frankenslot directly or your dealer that sold you the controllers. If you need help to trouble shoot more, please feel free to email me or join the Discord ( link in my bio ) Thanks for commenting.
@IrrerasCarrera Thank you for reply buddy! Yeah I will try with different batteries. I have a lot of wifi devices in my house, it would be really hard to try to isolate the issue, like all lights are smart etc... but the Carrera wireless controllers work fine, great range and no interference. I will do more testing and share later. Thanks
@@EASYUSA another overlooked issue can be that the FS are sharing a channel on the receiver. Make sure that all controllers are on separate channels, including the carrera controllers. If you pair a controller to a channel that already is assigned then you can get overlapping issues. Worth a try to just start fresh and re-pair all your wireless controllers. Unplug batteries of controllers that are not in use as well.
@@IrrerasCarrera Man!!! And that was the problem!!!!!!!! Thank you so much!!!!! I love your videos! And I really like your track layout super cool.
No problem, I'm glad you got it sorted. Thank you for the kind words. :)
Have you tried racing with damage on? Instead of stopping the race everytime someone spins/crashes. The one who crashed most likely will have to go out for damage repair. Say if you set a slow lap time of 6 or 7 seconds any lap takes longer than that is considered damage and has to go in pits for repairs. Gives you more ways to win the race not just be the fastest but consistent staying in the track racing a little more conservative can win the race as well. Just throwing that out there. At the end of the day it’s all about having fun and you 2 were having a blast. Great to see. 👍🏻🏁👍🏻
Thanks Ricky, I have the damage add on but haven't used it yet. I think I will try it soon as per your suggestion. I think another aspect is to have racers stop the race themselves rather than depend on a marshal, that is always me lol.
@@IrrerasCarrera Your welcome. that’s what’s great with the slot car racing. So many options to try and experiment. Pit lane speeding penalty is another one but I’m still experimenting on that as well.
Good video Joe. Congratulations to Jen on winning 🏆. Lots of camera angles makes it a little tough to follow along. Needed to watch in the house on the big TV. Watching everyone’s TH-cam videos makes me want to get going on my track assembly, a couple more weeks of other stuff and it’s time to start. Sorry I missed the live.

😅😜 Nico, its the best way! Thank you my friend!
@@IrrerasCarrera 😇🤷♂️😎👍🤟🤜🤛🤷♂️😎
What advantage is there for that way of holding the controller? (I need all the help I can get !)🏁
If there are 16 levels and you counted to 15 with the red controller then the 16th value would be zero ( 0 ). . That there is a difference in the red controller is not surprising. I have a controller that seems to jump straight to something like half throttle straight away. Clearly there is not tuning done here. The carrera speed controllers don't have a tuning facility. Thanks for the look.
Thanks for the clarification. I did realize after that 0 is a step 😅 Im glad to hear that Im not the only one with differences. Thanks for commenting.
Totally agree on your points Even a small track needs a check lane as it adds more immersion into the digital world plus it’s on the Smart race app so why not
Yeah man! Thanks for commenting. Glad you liked it
That was a great interview Joe and Nico great at sharing his tricks and tips
Always welcome!!!!!
Hi Joe. This is my first comment in one of your clips. I did watch your clpis before, but I hesitated to do so. Because you are new to the Carrera system, I let you gain your own experiences. So, what is the difference? Well, those little measure differences can be left out. The only difenrence is, that Frankenslot, bot also Slotinvasion vary in the colors, depending on the liveries of the Guide-Keels. That is about it. This is the first tunning, I do to each of my Carrera Cars, mounting a FS G-K to them. This is already half of the rent for a better runninb behaviour.. Also onto my 124`s. I put in the FS G-K! I run mostly analog, but also digital and the advantage of those G-K`s are obvious, because the Carera G-K`s get thinner over time and that definetly causes a problem ith the rail changing. The FS and SI G-K`s don`t grind off like the Carrera ones do and keep the Cars way more safe in the curves. Deslotting is less the cause with both brands. Besides, I get a discount, when I order more than 4. Then, they only cost me 1,40 € for each one. Single, they would cost 1,59 €.They last very long, compared to the Carrera G-K`s. That is i. Nice to help you out last night on Marty`s live stream. If you got a question, you could send me an e-mail. I will send you one later, so you know my mail-address. Meanwhile, get on with it, eh 🙂Greetings from Bremen, Germany and kind regards, Bjoern 🙂
Thank you Bjoren! I Appreciate you adding to the discussion. Lots of good info there. I know that for Carrera cars the guide upgrades do some good but they really shine when you take out the magnets. I look forward to your email :)
