The control unit sends the speed value to the car in four bits (or half a byte). Four bits in binary has 16 possible combinations. One of those values is zero, which is OFF. That's why you are only observing 15 speeds. Sometimes our wireless controllers start acting funny. More specifically, all of a sudden a car will only go about half speed when full throttle is applied. Most of the time re-binding/re-coding the controller to the wireless receiver fixes the problem.
That makes sense. Didn't think about 0 being a step. Thanks for clearing that up. Ive re binded my Red controller to all the channels. Its still the laggiest one. I think I just got a dud.
UGG wish I would have seen this last night. Your scientific method was way better than mine. Having the same issues but only just started building my layout about a month ago. one of mine, you get the plunger half way down and it is at full speed, no matter what I set the speed at. I ordered a Truspeed controller 2 weeks ago but I dont like that there is no resistance on the trigger, difficult to maintain a constant speed/feel if you know what i mean. A friend of mine ordered the Ramjet and I liked that one. It is more like a traditional feel with the swipe bar. Have never even looked at Frankenslot, definitely have not done enough research yet. Excellent FYI video, thanks!
Hey Dogtown, Im sorry to hear that your Carrera controllers are giving you difficulty. You will be pleased with aftermarket controllers no doubt. I have tried the True speed and I preferred them over the Frankenslot until I dove into the FS program menu. Ram jets are highly rated as well. You could speak to your dealer and ask for a replacement. The only thing that pops in my head that you could try is to open up the controller and inspect the spring. I know that some ppl pull/ stretch it out to soften the plunger so its not to hard on the thumb. In your case I think you might have to cut a coil length to shorten the plunger travel. That's only IF it's actually a spring problem and not a defect in the plastic housing. Again, I'm shooting from the hip here. If you want to troubleshoot this further Id be interested to know what you find. Please feel free to join the Community Discord. Link in my bio. We have a trouble shooting section. Thanks for watching and good luck.
Thanks for explaining this, makes alot of sense to why one of my controllers seamed slower. Have you ever heard of the Giri phone app? It's not the most accurate way but I have found it works quite well for show the rpm differences. If you are looking for a video idea it might be worth a look. The app works best with no fans etc going in the back ground.
Informative, talking as someone who hasn’t used wireless controllers. But the new to me set comes with wireless controllers although they have never been used and are 11 years old. I’m wondering if the batteries will work? We’ll see when I set it up 😁
If there are 16 levels and you counted to 15 with the red controller then the 16th value would be zero ( 0 ). . That there is a difference in the red controller is not surprising. I have a controller that seems to jump straight to something like half throttle straight away. Clearly there is not tuning done here. The carrera speed controllers don't have a tuning facility. Thanks for the look.

Right on Joe, I use wireless controllers too, we should do a jam buddy maybe some off the cuff blues.
Yeah man I'm down! I think I can count to 6 and possibly do a shuffle lol

I'll have to check that out. Thanks for the suggestion and I'm glad you got something out of the video. Thanks for watching!
Open it up and clean the wiper and contact area with lighter fluid. Makes a big difference in performance as well. 👍
Thanks! I will try that.
Very informative, thanks mate
Glad you enjoyed it
My brain work good!
😜
Great video brother!
Thanks Bello!

Interesting.
Good video something new for the head to work around 😂
💯👊...🤪

Thanks for the clarification. I did realize after that 0 is a step 😅 Im glad to hear that Im not the only one with differences. Thanks for commenting.
why the obnoxiously loud intro and outro music, then a person can hardly hear you speak?
Thanks for letting me know. Ill pay more attention to that in the next ones.
