Cape York | Goodbye, it's been great!
In this episode, we say goodbye to Cape York and start heading back down south, stopping at some great little free camps along the way, including The Bend free camp just outside of Coen. We missed this site on the way up, so we really wanted to check it out on the way back down, and it did not disappoint! Riverfront camping, plenty of wildlife, and great swimming, but get in early as it fills up fast! From there, we keep heading south to the famous Lions Den Hotel, and as luck would have it, we arrive on the pub's grand opening after the floods!

In this episode we spend a week at Punsand Bay Campground and on to the northern most tip of Australia! We actually visited the tip twice as we went back to get a more cheesy photo with some friends. Interestingly enough, between the two visits to the tip, someone shot up the Cape York with a shotgun! What a great trip you have had to the Cape , a trip we did in 2017 but could easily do again . Also a huge congratulations on the birth of your beautiful daughter . We look forward to seeing what you do and where you go in the future .
@fleurneumann8430 Thanks! It was a quick trip, but we have made some good community contacts so the next time we head up, we will look to do some more remote community vet work! Tania and Kaia are doing well, minus a bit of sleep! 😀😀
cheers..😀
Thanks. 😀😀
Another great episode, thanks for the memories of our journey together. Till next time we meet. 🍻
Until next time! 🍻🍻
Thanks for the memories! Trying to get the caravans perfectly positioned was certainly amusing. 😂
Haha, and perfect it was.. engineered to perfection. 🍻🍻
Great trip, thanks for taking me along. Congrats on the birth of your daughter, hoping you all are well and I can’t wait to see her on your next adventures.
Thanks! Kaia is doing well, waiting for our new car to get finished now before heading south!
there is any concrete road between marree to william creek???
@@dangerboy1111 nope, it is all dirt and corrigations. 👍🍻
At the time of WWII the American Air Force was part of the Army. USAAF was United States Army Air Force. Given that you need your vehicle to get back home, I cannot understand why people do gunshot.
@davidbrown2068 yup I didn't know that at the time, but it makes perfect sense! As for gunshot, maybe one day, but not this time! 👍
Definitely yeah nah for us too when we drive through! It’s not that stuff is expensive 💰 to replace if you break it (but does play a big part), you’re in the middle of nowhere! Takes us back though!🙌🏾
@@GrabLifeByTheGourlays maybe one day in an old hilux, add it to the list!! 🍻🍻
@@VetinaVan yeah drive it in something unbreakable! 😂

Cool Ep Guys,
@craigtomkinson2837 thanks Craig! 🍻🍻
Firstly, congratulations on welcoming your newest family member into the world. Finally some gender balance for poor Tania! 🙂 You've probably already looked it up, but just in case: USAAF is actually United States Army Air Force. During WW2 the US Air Force was not its own arm, but a branch of the US Army. A friend of flew F-15 Strike Eagles for many years and she once gave me a full rundown on the history of the USAF and the (now defunct) Strategic Air Command, and the politics behind the USAF not existing during WW2. It's certainly hard to imagine such young people going to war. My father trained as a pilot during WW2, but thankfully missed out by a few days on shipping out to the UK to join crews flying Lancasters over Germany. He's very much the reason for my own career choices, after he passed away and my focus on music had to change to something more 'practical' by way of engineering. I've still got his 'wings' and a number of RAAF magazines from his time in our own Air Force. I've also got some 'naughty' stories from his training days of crosswind landings in Avro Ansons 🙄 We won't be taking our Canter down gunshot 😱 It just doesn't bear thinking about! Another great video. Off to have our fish and chip night for now 👍 Looking forward to the next instalment.
@contributor7219 United States Army Air Force! Now I think about it, it makes perfect sense! I forget the air force was still in its early days back in the 1940's. Thanks for the information, as I had not looked that up, just assumed it was USA Air Force. Enjoy your Friday night fish and chips. Oh, and Kaia is doing well as is Tania, taking it easy for the next few weeks. 😃😃
@@VetinaVan A well-deserved rest for both sounds like a great idea at this stage! The info is the very least we can do in return for your lovely Friday night videos. Take care.
I really love your content and really really appreciate the non click bait titles. Many thanks 🙏
@lloydhenriksson Thanks! Our vids are just home videos and me working on my video making / cinematography hobby. No need for click bait as we don't need those views. 😉🍻👍
That was so good, your intros are on point and that music is just 👌🏽. Great episode 🙌🏽And yeah, what drongos shoot up the iconic sign?
@GrabLifeByTheGourlays Thanks guys! I'm getting the new camera in a few months, so the cinematography will hopefully bump up a notch! 🍻🍻

@DarrenJackson-fv9li chicken and bacon soup with some veg around a campfire, doesn't get much better. 🍻🥣👍
just did it on my dog and it works perfectly!! thank you!!
Well done!
Thank you for the video. i wonder if it would be possible to remove a grass seed or to be more precise a foxtail seed from a cavalier's ear without a general anesthesia?
Hi, It depends how far in that the seed is and the temperament of the dog. Dogs ear canals are very deep, and there's the possibility that there are multiple seeds in the ear. If the seed has been in there a while then it can get quite sore and potentially damage the ear drum. If it's straight forward and the dog is compliant then it could be done with the dog awake or just under sedation, but the vet who has assessed the individual situation could let you know. I'd at least want to look in the ear with an otoscope if the dog seems irritated to check for more seeds or trauma to the ear.
@@VetinaVan Thank you so much for your answer! I really appreciate it!!! Our King Charles Cavalier has undergone the procedure under a light anesthesia. This was a fox tail seed and it was quite deep in his eye and damaged his ear drum. But we were told that the membrane would probably regrow. So this is our story. Thank you very much for your kind answer! it was very useful and informative! All the best to you and your very useful channel.
Hi, weird question, your not still up north of the ferry?
@django4x4 hey there, sorry we are not, crossed over a few weeks back. Our TH-cam is running a few weeks behind, but I'm trying to catch it up! 🍻🍻

@craigtomkinson2837 Thanks Craig. 👍🍻
When I originally saw the 'shots fired at an Aussie icon' I thought you were speaking metaphorically about some clever commentary poking fun at one of our local legends. Sadly, no, actual shots fired at a sign. Were they trying to prove they could hit the broad side of a barn at point blank range? If so, bravo 🙄 Glad to hear they've been caught and will be prosecuted. Another fantastic video in the series guys. The best look we've seen at how a trip to the tip can be when doing it in a nice relaxed way. Love the burgers by the beach - we're off to get fish and chips and sit in the car by the beach to eat our Friday night 'catch'. It's not The Cape, but hey 🤷🏼♀
@@contributor7219 yeh, it's the random idiots that will ruin these places for everyone! Enjoy your Friday night fish and chips! 🍻👍😀

Another magical place in our amazing Aus. Loved this episode, the most calming and peaceful Cape video I’ve watched. 😊
@robyndehavilland1609 thanks Robyn, calm and peaceful is definitely our thing! It's a beautiful part of our amazing country. All going well, we'll be back for a longer stint in a few years to do some more animal management work in the communities. 😀😀
Great camp ground especially in the months you travelled there . Was busy when we stayed at Alou Campground in 2017 but loved the position near the beach . In 2017 it cost us $100 for just a vehicle return but worth it as you said .
@fleurneumann8430 yup totally worth it. Alau is pretty nice, I think there was only 4 other campers when we were there! Bet it's busy now though! 😀😀
It is expensive to ferry across until you realise this cost also covers camping permits in council approved areas. We stayed 2 weeks at Alau...absolute heaven 🙌 hope your Cape York trip met your expectations..😊
@anjehouse9507 yup, the ferry is well worth it! The Cape was great, Punsand is also amazing! Was good to be up there while it was still pretty quiet, the weather never really came good but you can't have everything! 👍🍻
Thanks to all of you :)
@zoezoe610 Thanks Zoe. 😀😀😀
Your videos continue to be a fantastic take on doing The Cape - much more our laid back style of doing things. The Alau Beach Campground looks absolutely stunning, and based on your comments I think somewhere we'd want to spend a few days. The contrast between rainforest and the open sea is definitely marked! Given the investment in a 'trip to the tip' I don't think too many would complain about the ferry cost when considered against the total. The more we see of your take on things the more I think we need to add it to our trip list. Watched the tight tracks last week with interest as our little truck would struggle to fit through some of those spots without tree pruning (or a caravan to clear a branch or two🙂). Given your current truck (bus) build and our other comments I realised this might be of interest. We helped out an auto journo friend with a video a while back - ours is the 'baby' of the two Canters. Wifey took some drone footage too. th-cam.com/video/xWRfPuCgxhg/w-d-xo.html Looking forward to the next instalment. Hope all is going well!
@contributor7219 what an awesome little truck! The new bus has front, rear, and centre lockers, so hopefully, this gives optimum flexibility, especially with 24 gear ratios! I'll give that video a bit more of a watch tomorrow. it looks very interesting. The Cape is well worth the trip. You don't have to do any crazy stuff to get to the tip. Pundsand Bay is also amazing, we will show that next week. Safe travels. 👍🍻

@GrabLifeByTheGourlays haha, this was three months ago! How time flys! 🍻🍻
Hi ya, I really like your videos. So myself and my hubby are going to Karijini and we have booked the popular spots but would definitely like to stay at the spot that was the free millstream Chichester national park can you give us some directions to get to that location please as we also love our own company. 😃 Much appreciated. 👍🏻
Glad you enjoy the videos, this campsite was one of our favourite of all time! The place we stayed here is in wiki camps as "George River Remote Bush Camp" - that's the 'area' as there are a few different camps around the wiki marker. The area also changes from season to season due to flooding so it may not be the same as when we were there which was a few years ago now! I must warn you though, the track in was VERY tight and rocky, there was bits of caravan everywhere so probably a good idea to park the van at the lookout, unhitch and go in for a bit of a reconnaissance trip first as it might not be accessible to large setups. If you do manage to get into the site, it really is one of the best in Australia, so enjoy! 😀😀🍻👍
Thanks guys really look forward to your vids, you're the real deal, what a fantastic family experience to look back on, thanks again for sharing your experience.
Thanks Matt, glad you enjoyed them, we truly love the travel life and everything that goes with it. Living a minimalist lifestyle was something we never thought we would end up doing but here we are, over four years in and would not have it any other way. 😀😀🍻👍

Great video, where abouts was the snorkeling?
@DoYouAcceptReturns this was about 2 years ago now so not sure if it has changed but Gumbanan Wilderness Retreat had an area out to the north of the camp that was locked by rocks when the tide was at a certain hight making it croc safe. 👍😀
Amazing to see the difference in the PDR from when you guys did it until when we did it in June! Was like a highway for us!
I bet! There were a lot of graders on the road when we went up, but they were only just starting. Apparently, all those big washouts are fixed now and a lot less water. 👍👍
