Perch Rock Fishing
United Kingdom
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 28 ส.ค. 2019
My shore fishing sessions in the UK. Most of the fishing is around the Wirral and the River Mersey but also with trips along the North Wales Coast and Anglesey. I mainly target big fish in my beach fishing and particularly love fishing for conger eels, rays, huss and smoothhound.
I like to take a simple approach and believe timing and bait are the key factors to shore fishing success.

In Search of the New Brighton Smooth Hounds
#seafishinguk #shorefishinguk
An early evening session looking for some hounds on the local beach at New Brighton on the Wirral. Fishing was slow, and not helped by a brisk cold eastlerly wind. However, I managed a few fish in the end. I love fishing those warm summer evenings for those hard fighting smooth hound.

#seafishinguk #shorefishinguk A late night / early morning fishing session for smooth hound on the local beach at New Brighton. #shorefishinguk #seafishinguk So it has been a strnage start to the year where everything seems a bit delayed. This includes the arrival of the Smooth hound. So with the occasional fish being caught, I headed out to the Rock Channel with Gary to try and catch our first of the season. Please note the mark shown is potentially dangerous if you are not familar with it. So if you are new to it then...

Great vid mate👌🏻
very enjoyable thank you just baught a fireblade 14ft cant wait to test it
Can you use 50lb braid straight through or do you need shockleader
50lb would be Ok up to 5oz but I would go for a shock leader for anything heavier....
@@PerchRockFishing thank you

That's the most northerly point in Wales, llanbadrig point at Cemaes Bay. Great fishing round there and where I'm from.
It is indeed. Thanks for watching 😊
@@PerchRockFishing wylfa head the other side of the bay also has great marks on it. And not a lot of people know this, but fish, including bass, can be caught off the pier in Cemaes when the tide is flooding and even better if the wind is blowing n.westerly straight in there. You get perfect shelter from the wall on the pier, but avoid casting onto the rocks on the left, you wanna cast on the rock to sand margin, where the river flows down when the tide is out. Iv had cod, doggy, whitting, pouting and bass off there, especially at night on the big rods.
I believe there is some good conger fishing to be had off Wylva Head but still on the list to do 😊
@@PerchRockFishing there's huge congers living in the reef off the ledge on the end off llanbadrig point to, just down the side in the gully that goes round to the beach on the left. The reef can only be seen on a low tide, and the water is deep off there, excellent marks for spinning off the point to. And ye, wylfa has some big eels living around it to, as well as all.the other species.
Decent session 👍 I had one off the double slip at high tide last week, bit smaller than your 3rd but nice to get the first of the year 🎣🦈
Thanks for watching Rich and congratulations on your first one of the year 🎣
Do you need to cast far out to catch a smoothie behind the Morrisons in New Brighton. What kind of ground is it like there as well? Rough right along or only in parts.
Distance matters more at the start of the session. As the strip of 'rough' ground, a mixed shellfish bed, is a fair distance out. So usually a.question of wading out, small baits and putting it as far as you can. As tide drops..hitting the 'rough' ground becomes easier as you get closer. It is tough on end tackle though...not for snags but abrasion.
Decent session 👍, I had one off the double slip at high tide last week, bit smaller than your 3rd one but nice to get the first of the year 🦈🎣
Well done mate great angling, closest I got to hound that night was landing yours 😂
It was a tough evening with that strongly easterly.
@PerchRockFishing I did have a last cast bite, but thought the lad fishing to my right was dragging my line in again so left it, and was using dongle and circle so fish must of just dropped the bait 😢
Last hook was an O'Shaughnessy.. hope that helps 👍
Now then mate. I saw you were near to the 1000 mark so I got my wife and a couple of mates to push you over the top. 😉👍🏻 Well done bud.
Many thanks John. Was a bit quiet on the uploads last year as I fished a lot getting to know a couple of marks that I didn't want to show. Hopefully get back on some more video output this year
Great vid, im currently looking to get the fireblade rod, r those the 14ft or 13ft ur using and how would u rate them…tight lines
Hi Brian thanks for watching. The ones used on the video were the 13ft version. I have subsequently changed to the 14ft as I generally use rods of this length and much prefer it. As for the Fireblade itself you won't find a better rod for the money. The 14ft version reminds me of a slightly softer C curve. They are great rods and I really enjoy using them. Slim and light blank that is easy to cast and load up well, good bite detection but with a nice stable tip in tide and wind and comfortably handle 6oz with a decent size bait. Also have plenty of power in them when needed.
Well done mate👍
Thanks Ismail 😎🎣
Good watch as always 👏🏻🎣
Have you ever tried a century carbon metal? If so what’s your opinion, thanks 👍
Nice to see a video again pal! all the best.
Thanks for watching 🎣😎
nice sized rays there mate 👍👍
Thanks Jay...except perhaps the first one 😊
Great stuff shame about nothing bigger coming along do you have to pay for parking now at perch rock not fished there in a very long time
Thanks Peter. I haven't fished it much this year...still no parking fee unless something changed in last two weeks.
Great video mate. Enjoyed it
great video again rich well done mate

@@PerchRockFishing ok Mate Thanks alot. I really appreciate it 👍
Loads of action there Rich! Love the sounds of the birds as dawn was coming, beautiful sun rise too. A sunrise beats a sunset any day!
Thanks. Love dawn but all the bird activity can be a problem 🙄 Don't tend to film the really busy hound sessions as you just don't get time.
Hi mate I tried to write answer your reply twice but it doesn’t look like it works. I don’t use Facebook. Is there any other way to contact? Regards
Hi mate Is there any chance of looking at the century rod you are using in this video before I buy one to myself. I just wanna hold and feel how it feels. And maybe some advice about century rods. I live local in liscard. If you can help me out that would be appreciated. Regards Ismail
Happy to show and discuss Century rods. Are you on Facebook?

Thanks Jamie 🦈🎣😎
Nice session fellas, well done
Cheers Alex...give us a shout next time you are heading up this way. 🎣😎
@@PerchRockFishing will do mate
I don't understand it Rich! Been to the Perch Rock twice in the last month, baiting up like your good self and then NOTHING! Is there a 'sweet' spot in that area or something? Apart from a couple of unexpected good sized bass from Harrison Drive last year my returns in the area have been appalling! As for flatties, are they now extinct in the Mersey? Used to reel them in in 3's when I was a lad.
Perch has been a bit hit and miss this year but should pickup as we go through next month. Usually fishes better on big tides (9.0m plus on the high). Still plenty of flatties (plaice and dabs) about...just a question of targeting right tides at right time of year.
Always a pleasure fishing with you mate. Great video as usual 🎣🦈
Thanks Jay 🎣🎣
Great video, just found your channel. May I ask what waders are those and would you recommend them?
Thanks for watching Richard. The waders are the Vass 700 Team Vass heavy duty waders. Great waders and still going strong.
@@PerchRockFishing Thankyou for the reply and yes I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Great session Rich, good to see that crab isn’t the be all and end all for Smoothhound fishing. Great watch, cheers!
Thanks Justin. I am just as happy using plain whole dirty squid as I am crab. Again this year...squid is out fishing the 🦀 for the hounds for me.

Great session there Richard. Well deserved mate.
Thanks David....needed a good hound session as it has been hard work with them this year.
Good session...that's why i use baby squid with something else you don't just need peeler.
Believe you had a good session too that night 👍🏼 I always catch more hounds on plain squid than peeler.
Great session that buddy ,hats off for going out at that hour ,well deserved 👍
Thanks Mick...always good fun when the hounds are feeding 🦈🙂
