    I'm getting questions about what class D amp might sound good with these speakers. Here's a tube tip: Douk ST-01 Pro TUBE tip: If your amp came with Chinese 6K4 tubes (has a red star printed on the glass), mine caused distortion. I upgraded to much better sound for $17 with GE JAN 5654W matched pair tubes. 6K4 tubes can be replaced by 6J1, 6J2, 6J3, 6J4, 6J5, 6"1N, 64N, 65N, 5654/5654W, 5725, 6AK5, EF95, 6BA6, 403B, etc. Your tubes may be ok. This type of tube hybrid amp drives my elac speakers very well. But I would avoid Chinese tubes.

      I have never tried them so can't comment on how they are or how they sound. However I am very curious about some of the speakers they offer. I have seen some of their B&W clones which aren't exact copy but do look interesting. I doubt they sound anything like the real thing though.

    I highly advise against any kef speakers including the q350! I purchased the q350 3 years ago with high hopes and they are aesthetically pleasing but the sound was disappointing for $800 speakers. I could have lived with that, but after owning them less than a month the aluminum driver tore 2 inches along the edge of the surround. They were under warranty but a huge hassle sending them all the way back to Kef in New Jersey and being without them for 3 months. I had to buy different speakers to hold me over until the kef was returned. I've been bitter about that experience ever since and then a week ago lo and behold the other driver is now torn in the same place same size! If you go online you will see tons of kef speakers totally torn and gacked out in all sorts of ways! I wish I would have known 3 years ago before I ever bought Kef. Those speakers should have lasted me a lifetime and now I'm just screwed out of $800.00 with these POS speakers. I thought I was getting something beautiful and unique and high-end but I was so wrong!

    It may be that the second magnet is there for shielding purposes? But is also may strengthen the field at the voice coil? It seems like they are using an L-pad on the tweeter; with the two resistors. 20W 3.9 ohm is probably the one in series with the tweeter?

    I'm curious why you check the binding posts for ferro-magnetic material, but not the spade lugs on the drivers. Most of the spade lugs I've tested on speaker drivers are made ferro-magnetic material. Wouldn't this potentially be as harmful to the signal as material on binding posts?

    • @generationbehindhifi
      @generationbehindhifi 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That's a lot of speaker for $489 a pair! I also recently purchased the 30A subwoofer at $229 and its ok -- Look inside video coming soon. I definitely like the speakers much better than the subwoofer. The main problem with the subwoofer is bandwidth. During the opening scene in Tenet there is a very heavy low frequency bass track and the Aurora 30A can't reproduce those low notes too well. At first I thought the subwoofer was turned off and it wasn't. After some research I noticed that Audioholics did a review and mentioned that his subwoofer falls of a cliff below 40Hz! No wonder I couldn't hear that low frequency track on Tenet! At $229 I think it offers pretty decent value, but it does have its limitations. IMO the Aurora 300, 700, and 1000 are the real bargains in the line up. They really are fantastic speakers for their price point!

      IMO the tweeter on the LA165 is much smoother and less fatiguing than the tweeter in the 250B. But the woofer in the 250B is quite a bit nicer than the one in the LA165 - better damped, lower VC inductance, and stronger motor assembly.

    I changed caps in an old pair of Polk monitors. The values were so big for the woofer circuit 2nd order low pass that the physical size of the polypropylenes wouldn't allow the crossover board to fit into the back, so I used polyester versions on the board instead. This improved the sound over the electrolytics for the woofer circuit. Polypropylenes are more important in the high pass for the tweeter. You can get away without "perfection." IOW, you don't need to have perfect components everywhere, especially on less than perfect designs, or speakers not costing thousands.

    If a vac does not work on the tweeter, you can try some sticky tape very carefully. Use q-tip to stick the tape on and gently pull out. If the Tweeter outside really is metal, you can then use q-tip and alcohol or a mild solvent to get any tape residue off. This has worked for me in the past. If the Tweeter is still defective, I definitely would send it back and demand a refund. The woofer has a really nice motor on it. Thanks for the video.

      Would some rubber grommets/washers or gaskets help?

    Considering a budget home theater with this line. Using the towers for LCR. Will be interested in more content on these. 👍🏻
