came back to the states for a bit, but going back to mexico soon wish i could take my 70s Japanese brother but can only take essentials. Ive been reading more in spanish and wish to do more writing too

I'm a Brother typewriter apologist. Their early manuals were great. In terms of touch I think I like my Brother jp-1 (montgomery ward branded as well) as much as my H3K. I get a sense maybe they did use cheaper materials, but judging it purely on function in tip top shape, it has the same "feathery" touch. Both responsive and quick, as if the touch control tension was very high, but barely takes any effort to depress the key, best of both settings. Keys rarely bind up, they're so quickly out of the way. As best I understand they had a reputation of being an "off brand" buy every review of a Pro-line, Webster, Brother Deluxe, Chargers, Activators, JP-Xs, etc. all those reviews start and end with "I was so surprised how much I loved it" and high marks.

Hard to find typewriters, I keep an eye out for a Cherokee typewriter, but there were only a few made and I don’t know that any of them have survived outside museums.

Great video, as always! I like the shifting mechanism on this one, it pivots the platen instead of raising the whole carriage, which is easier. I am surprised there aren’t more typewriters with Spanish keyboards in the US, given the number of Spanish-speaking folks.

The flea market and antique store hunting has caught me and my fiance haha. We went to 5 over the last 2 weeks. I just found a 1947 Smith-Corona Sterling that's pretty dirty, but only has one broken feature and I'm gonna get that fixed up. One month in and I have 2 already, so I think I'm gonna stop with these two for now 😬 Haha. But I've managed to spend less than $200 on both combined. I'm Mexican American, but my Spanish is weak. I'd love to increase my fluency and get a Spanish language typewriter. Really cool find.

A friend of mine, who moved here from Spain many years ago, has a vintage Olympia SM5 with a Spanish keyboard. He brought it to work to ask me for advice on typewriter restoration. It was the first time I had seen a Spanish keyboard.

UPDATE ON TYPEWRITER: It has made its way to an author who will use it to write in Spanish!

When you see the letter Ñ in the keyboard you know is Spanish I know because I'm from Argentina Cheers!

I am all about the Spanish typewriter! They are not so easy to come by. I ordered one all the way from Spain and had bad luck with the shipping. Not sure if it can be fixed but it’s in the shop 🤷‍♀️ 🤞

Love your videos. It’s funny, we have almost opposite tastes when it comes to the “feel” of the keys. My first typewriter was a Royalite and it had a very loud clack, I didn’t love it. Then I purchased my Olympia SM5 and I absolutely love it. Fast forward a few years and now I discovered I love Royals after getting two standards, a KMM and KHM. I don’t have a SC yet so maybe I just don’t know what I am missing 😊

I recently buy some cheap ones, but some of them have issues that I have to research on how to solve…not always easy fixes…

Sarah, I have a 1975 Smith Corona Galaxie 12 in the pretty blue. I found how easy it is to remove the platen. Do you know how to remove the paper plate with the feed rollers ? I have a 1975 model and the rollers are so dry the paper slips. I want to have the rubber for the platen and feed rollers replaced. Thank you.

I used foam door insulation with twill tape on the sticky side of the insulation the tied it the key rest frame also used the same insulation on some of the panels this cut about 40% of the sound on my 1934 Royal kh

Uuuggh the internet has brought us great stuff like this community BUT at tge same time it has brought us things like ebay prices!! Most items you see on ebay are items that have been on there for months if not years on end, clearly not selling, so the prices just arent correct

I went to a value village today (savers for people in the USA) and found a Remington Performer for $35 which I didn’t have on me and I might go back to see if they still have it next time I get paid. But my mom was with me and well I was putting stuff away she decided to try and lift it out of the cart instead of waiting for me to get back and she dropped it on the ground. I checked to make sure it was okay and it was still in working order but I was really upset about it.

Wow, that looked like a Hollywood props warehouse! But their pricing strategy is offensive, to say the least.

My guiding principle is, if they don’t show prices for their stuff, I either can’t afford it or they are shady. Or both. I am not their target demographic.

You have to haggle on the price and not take what the salvage yard owner says right away.

You are lucky you got out of there with your wallet. That is some shady stuff, take a picture and we will tell you the price? What a scam. I never understood how businesses like that stay open. It's like they actively try to put buyers off.
