My kids got me into thrifting. Clothing, furniture, appliances ø. So much good stuff out there if you are a bit patient.

I knew that there were mystery boxes with new items but very cool that there is also ones with thrifted items. 🙂

Thanks for this glimpse into “thrifting”. I’ve always been drawn to thrift shops and flea markets but, unlike yourself, they overwhelm me, with so many tantalizing choices that my brain freezes and I end up getting nothing.😳 But it’s fun to do it vicariously through friends and folks like you. I’m with you on the beauty of wonderful old things and I hate to see perfectly good items abandoned and wasted.
I finally purchased a lovely old Victrola (from 1908!) a few years ago; I had wanted one since I was a kid (and I love old jazz from the ‘20s on 78 rpm records, so I actually get to use the thing). My niece recently visited and asked me if she could have it someday and that warmed my heart; another beautiful thing that won’t end up on the street.❤

Aside from Typewriters, I also collect DVDs, CDs, VHS and have recently started trying to find more clothes. I've always collected movies and it's great being able to watch what I want when I want, rather than IF it's streaming and IF I have that particular streaming service. It's so much more convenient.

    1) I think your aesthetic is terrific. 2) THANK YOU for mentioning your mom's channel however many videos ago that was. She is awesome! I live in a 90+ year old house that past owners remodeled most of the character out of, and your mom is a bottomless well of great ideas for restoring it to as much semblance of its original self as my wife will permit and as I can afford. Which leads me to: 3) Also thank you for the look at your thrifting process. My wife and youngest daughter often shop thrift stores for clothing, not so much for price but because they're both hard to fit, and they find shopping at regular stores very frustrating. But people of all shapes and sizes need clothes, and a lot of those clothes end up in thrift stores, so they rarely leave the thrift store disappointed. I sometimes tag along on their thrifting trips, usually looking at the ties - because I find that thrift shops tend to have more ties that are my style than regular stores do, and I certainly can't complain about the prices - and the tech items, because information technology is my field and sometimes I find usable stuff there. I also successfully thrifted for dress pants to go with a self-thrifted suit jacket (meaning I inherited it from my late father) on one trip. Anyway, your process will help me on future thrift shop visits.

Woolrich is my favorite, along with American Levis. I used to collect old phones (rotary, trimline, design-themed, etc.) I have many 2nd hand book sets. The wife collects tea sets. I quit thrifting when I had no room left to put things. I must have donated back and/or sold a ton of things, and still have a jam packed 18'×10' storage unit. It's nice to be able to have space again, but I'm still not finished clearing stuff out.

Impeccable taste! The purple tea set would be well suited to some Darjeeling. My go-to thriftstuffs are vintage cameras, clothes (usually jackets / outerwear & scarfs), selected vinyl (zappa, ian dury & the blockheads, and 'adult' comedy albums). I got my DVD copies of the LOTR extended cut when new but are still worth the price.

At 6:36 in your video, I noticed that the Remington Quiet-Riter has a '1' key... maybe it had a special font? 🤔 Whatever the case, its $29.00 price would have made it very likely that it would have left the store with me, and met up with the 1958 "Letter-Riter" in my home.😉

I'm skeptical about mystery boxes. So much better if you can select for yourself.
I tried Stitch Fit for a while and while everything fit really well (something I'm not used to), the styles seemed bland to me. I told them I was looking for a splash of color, but that never happened. Meh.
That Bavarian coffee cup was delightful. Clearly a display piece.
I also really like the Barbie-sized typewriter. I might want to combine it with a doll and desk and chair to put it in context.
All the sweaters look great and seem imminently practical.
I'm a big collector of DVDs. I just keep thinking that something like these streaming services could easily go away at any time. I like to be able to watch a movie or TV show whenever I want without any commercials and without having to search through multiple services to find it.

I miss coffee so much. Makes me incredibly anxious though, for some reason.
Really enjoy these thrifting videos. Very comfy vibes.

Mistery boxes are a cool idea for buying second hand items.

Do you ever test any of your thrifted items for lead? I know the majority of the cups and plates contain high levels of lead.
