Oh :) OMG, Sarah! Hi, from Bulgaria :) I was truly amazed when I saw this video... I'll just start with a story to let you know why - I'm a chemist, last year I got this lab-space in my university (it was an old lab that used to do radiactive isotope research in the 70s - almost through the mid-90s, got sealed after this since it was deemed radiactive, checked later and announced safe and turned into a storage space for the next 15 years, after which I claimed it). It was a time capsule. Full of stuff I had to clean. Piles of them (found a bunch of vinil records with serbian music from the 80s, a record player, a bunch of old geiger tubes, a bunch of East-German "naughty" magazines and a Maritza typewriter with a German keyboard (weirdly placed in the same cupboard)). I brought the last item home and got interested into typewriters (it works... ). This is how an year go I started following your channel :) So now.. when I heard "Marista" I thought how funny it was, that you also got one of them. /* BTW .. it is pronounced Maritza (like "Mari" as in 'mari'time and "-tza" as in ... dunno "tza-tziki"). Maritza typewriters trully were named after Maritza river that flows through Plovdiv, where the factory was based (if you visit Bulgaria - go there - Plovdiv /*pronounced "P-love-deev" is really the hipster city*/) :) Thanks for the video. So happy that some socialistic junk originating from my country found its way to your channel for me to witness :)

I've been searching for the typewriter model that I got from my mother for years, the google lens trick was such an amazing way for me to finally identify it. Thank you so much!

When we were kids, our dad brought home from work an old typewriter that was set up in our playroom. It didn't work quite right, which was why he was able to bring it home, I think one of the keys didn't work.
It was a big Royal desk typewriter and we messed around with it a lot. That's where we learned how to fake the missing "1/!" key, how tabs and margins worked, etc.
It was quite old, the platen had columns worn into it from years of typing. It originally had a cover that was torn where the carriage return handle poked through, but I don't know what ever became of it.
According to The Typewriter Database, it was a Royal model KMG from 1949, a real workhorse.
I haven't seen it since the very early '70s, but I think it would be fun to have something like it again.

Great info as always. I'd love to see a video on things to do with your typewriter, maybe like typewriter penpals or the like. You and Joe Van Cleave are my go to typewriter content on YT, keep up the great work.

Thank you for the help again. That last typewriter was a nightmare to identify without knowing where to look. You are quite talented at seeking this knowledge out.

On the subject of identifying typewriters, what’s the funky pink one on your right? Looks very 1950s/early 1960s to me, but that’s all I can make out.

Great video! Would a Hermes 3000 type on postcards/cardstock? If not what typerwriters would you saw would be good at typing on thicker sheets.

I've never used a Hermes 3000 so I wouldn't know if it does, but I've had the best luck using big desk top machines for that

It might be a weak spring on the line mechanism. When they get stretched out, they become inconsistent

@@user-lm4uh3vi5q I've had to run everything through a translator app! Look at the mechanism on the left hand side where you adjust line spacing. Some times that is held in place by a spring. If that spring is too stretched, it won't hold it in place.

Я Ваши видеозаписи включаю на фоне, когда делаю упражнения по машинописи, на слух понимаю лишь отдельные слова, но сама поставленная речь радует, как музыка. Потом пересматриваю фрагменты с субтирами.

Hello everyone! I have a question, and hopefully someone will have the knowledge :) I have a
1951 Underwood Finger Flite Champion portable, and the lowercase letters are beautifully clear and strong, but the uppercase letters appear faint. Does anyone know how to fix this?
