Hi Sarah, "scrittore" is an italian word and it means "a person who writes". In everyday language is used to define a person who writes books as a profession. Stephen King is a "scrittore".
Sarah, have you looked at the Nakajima typewriter / electronic word processing typewriter? Might be the only other typewriter that are still being made that I could find.
The only problem I had with mine is it is made of dollar store plastic and tin foil. But, one dollar is what it should cost. I hope royal gets its name back. and makes a real machine.
Hmm… perhaps making an affordable, beginner typewriter was never the plan. Maybe the plan was to simply make the cheapest possible thing that could “pass” as a typewriter to unsuspecting buyers, and make it just “good enough” to NOT be returned until the return window expired. If so, “Royal” may well consider this thing a success. How sad. 😞
There are a lot of crafters out there who use typewriters for various scrapbooking and labelling jobs and for card making. So they won't be writing memoirs but occasional use. Outside the US typewriters are still used as functional machines. I guess they saw a market. My dad worked for a firm that sent manufacturing to China. While they are hardworking and good at their jobs, getting the specs right for the product was a challenge. I suspect that is why there were 2 models released the same year
Even $13 is too much to pay for something like this. Strictly for historical interest. I suspect this may have been made for people who are trying to get away from the distractions of working on a computer. There's a lot of buzz about this idea and maybe they would want to buy something new rather than an antique of some sort. Too bad. I'm stunned to hear that people are still selling "new" typewriters, when clearly we have lost this technology the same way we lost the technology to go to the moon. All in all, I'd REAlLY rather have that Royal Futura 800 that's over your shoulder. "Magic Margins" is a long lost and poorly understood technology, but it works well for those who use(d) it regularly.
"Scrittore" is an Italian word meaning writer and a loan word to English. It is pronounced as an Italian word, scrit-or-ay, but the English pronunciation of "scrit-or" would also be valid, as with other loan words.
Oh my. This is part of the set of "crappy clones"--someone released this design to the wild (or one factory makes them under different names), and one of the criteria is to maintain the crappy quality. And it seems this is the only typewriter sill made, with the exception of We R Memory typewriters (also not very good typewriters).
These sub-standard so called typewriters are the leftovers and last gasp efforts of Asian suppliers to a lost and forgotten market. Get a good used REAL TYPEWRITER if ya need one. I represented one of the major companies back when the market started to shut down.
Scrit-tory. 🙂 Best avoid everything new. Nice historical perspective of the OG Royal plant. I grew up very close to the OG "Noiseless" factory in Connecticut just south of Hartford. That building is still there and houses small shops.

@@gunnm77 thank you for the information!
O.K.. 🎉.
Put it on display as a gag with a banner saying (worlds worst typewriter)

What do you do with it? "Royal Road Test (Part II)" :D
Why does gen Z insist on writing prices backwards? It is “$13”. Not everything is written the way it is said.
That would be a very short video. 😂
I apologize and will fix it in the title. Thank you for your feedback!

I'll sooner buy a Freewrite or any of those word processors over this.
Great Video!! Those earrings are wicked cool! 💜Mom!!!
10:58. I could hear how rough that must have felt. Ugh!

Everything that is a consumer good is lower quality, and I would expect a modern made mechanical typewriter to be no different.

Sarah, this ‘machine’ is just a piece of junk. Bin it, and put it down to experience.
