    Can this bike do 20 miles both ways on a full charge??

    • @daveyJ213
      @daveyJ213 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Oh heck yes! If you have the dual battery setup such as I have and you don't get at least 75 miles on a charge, it's because you are not even trying. I'd describe the area in which I live as "hilly". Within a 5 mile radius of my home there are quarter-mile to half-miles grades of 3%, 4% and more. I did a quick experiment and achieved 80 miles on a single charge, and still had plenty of battery juice left. I believe I could have achieved 100 miles at least. Of course, if you insist on riding around at 30+ mph by cranking the throttle you are never going to achieve that type of milage. It's nearly impossible to keep this bike under 12 mph even in PAS level 1. You can cruise around in PAS level 2 to 3 all day at 20 mph and have a blast. I only use PAS 3 for going up steep long grades and seldom use the throttle. I always have a nice leg burn going at the end of a 20 mile ride, but no stress on the knees at all. Big fun!

    Thank you for the video, the E-Cell Co doesn't even have a Dual-Star intstruction video on their website, nor did my bike come with an instruction manual. What size bolt and nut came with your Dual-Star? There wasn't one in the box for me. I did receive a Derailer Guard, but there's no place to mount it like on the Dual Step Star. Other than that I love the bike after I got 99% of it set up and it seems like a very solid bike.

    • @daveyJ213
      @daveyJ213 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yeah, that would be a tremendous service if they could provide an actual user manual for the machine you are purchasing. Perhaps the technology is evolving too fast. I did not receive a derailleur guard on my bike, nor is there any place to mount one. The only other ongoing problem I am experiencing this the physical connection from the back battery. It is constantly pulling apart, thus disconnecting the rear battery from the system. This connection should be a threaded connection. I am to mention this to the owner David Cleveland.

      @Veganarchy-Zetetic 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@daveyJ213 I guess the extra weight and money for a suspension seat post that is designed for hard tails when you already have full suspension seems a bit overkill. The extra loss of pedal energy. The rear suspension and the seat post being out of sync and not bouncing in conjuction. Some seat posts make you a bit more wobbly. Some change the distance from the pedals when in use. I was going to add one to my bike but after reading up on it I think I would rather save the cash just in case I suffer from any of the above reasons. My full suspension bike is aready WAY more comfy than my hard tail with seat post suspension so maybe it is unecessary for me. Glad it works for you tho!

    Walk mode is the same no matter how i set it , like you say its trot mode or jog mode i'm 5'4" lol , what do you use those handle bar extensions for? and does that seat post add more height

    • @daveyJ213
      @daveyJ213 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Since riding for a while I've realized that holding down the "down arrow" for walk mode is the same gesture used for initiating "cruise control". The only difference being that usually one would being going 0 mph when starting walk-mode. Side note: I've only been able to engage cruise control one time. Since then, I can't get it to operate normally. Still exploring. The handle bar extensions were originally for mounting a phone holder. I was hoping the original phone holder would be suitable for photography/filming - not so. I have since now removed the handle bar extension and changed to a new phone holder. Honestly, the particular handle bar extension I was using was way to fussy to install and use. It's gone now. I'm away now to SoCal to visit my grand-daughter, thus will not be able to ride for three weeks! However, I plan on doing a 500+ mile review of everything I am learning. I'll share that with you guys at that time. Take care, Tom. Thanks for the question.

    • @daveyJ213
      @daveyJ213 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, you can ride without battery power, but anything over a 1% incline, even in 1st gear, you will not be a happy camper. 108 lbs. under no power gets tiring very fast. Best to always manage your batteries, and keep track of your voltage while riding.

    45.8 lbs listing your individual pounds that you called out. You mentioned the Radical Design seat pods, and didn't mention the first side but walked around to the other side and then said 6.6 lbs. I'm assuming that was for both sides? Plus You 195 lbs. Equals a total of 240.8 lbs, not counting food, water and weight of your Trike and rack empty? Let's just say your Trike w/E-assist (Heavy battery)... 35 lbs for the Trike + E-assist 20ish lbs = w/1 gallon of water 304 lbs of rolling weight! That's quite a lot! I wouldn't want that much weight. Let's say you didn't have the E-assist (20 ish lbs), and you dropped 10 lbs body weight. There's approximately 30 lbs!! right there. Which is a Lot of weight when you have to carry it up hills. Now you're in the 273 lbs range. The toiletries sure looks like it could be widdled down to half what you have. I would go through everything and shave a little off each pannier items. Ounces add up very quickly to 1 lb. Pounds add up very quickly as well. 10 lbs is a huge difference when carrying it over long distances.

      @@daveyJ213 Dave, I am pretty good friends with Steve Greene (Trike Hobo Steve). We communicate often through email and comments on each other's TH-cam channels. I've done a few long distance recumbent trike tours. As well as a lot of local stealth camping trips, which I have posted on my channel. To be honest, I'm not a fan of any E-assist. They are HEAVY and limited regarding distance in between charging durations. Sure travel is faster but not by much when the charging of battery and wait time is factored in. I realize that E-assist is the big new CRAZE, but not all cracked up as they claim. Plus.. those Lithium batteries are VERY TOXIC and NOT easily disposable. And they weigh A LOT. Quilts are FAR BETTER than sleeping bags for many reasons. Much lighter! Half the packing space. Can be spread out like a light comforter in warm weather. Not constricting, like you mentioned with the mummy sleeping bag. Enlightened Equipment Quilts. Check them out. I just recently bought a brand new Catrike 700, 2024. I have custom gearing on it for climbing. Arkel Dolphin 32L panniers for my rear rack and a Arkel Trail Rider fast pack 11L rear rack tote, plus Radical Design low racers side seat pods 20L for both. FAST and LIGHT approach. Light weight gear and clothing (which is expensive! but worth it). I'm hoping to do the OCBR tour next year sometime, but trying to work out all of the logistics of travel. Not easy. I too am from Southern California born and raised, but moved to Arizona in 15'. Looking forward to seeing your videos.

I hope to do it again one day. Just have to get out there. Exploring putting a larger chain ring on my AZUB recumbent, up to 48 teeth from 36. Might have to add links to my chain, and upgrade the firmware in the motor. I will definitely reusing e-assist on my next long distance excursion.

I would be starting at Fort Stevens State Park in Oregon (very northwest corner of Oregon), and taking my time (approximately 10 days) and finishing up at the Oregon/California border. Not sure exactly when, definitely after the rainy season in the Spring time...June, July Perhaps. If this peaks your interest we have about a year to plan it. Sorry I did not show that step. After I removed the vertical support I discovered there were two slightly recessed areas on main body that were shaped just like that plastic pieces. They sort of "held" in place as I reinserted the pieces. I inserted the bolt in just far enough to hold the piece in place, then inserted the support, then the last plastic pieces. No glue was necessary.

      I’m having trouble putting those two plastic fittings in. Doesn’t seem like they fit. Or stay. They do go inside. Right

      @@kskogman125 Yeah, I'm sorry I screwed up that parts of the presentation. I know what you mean. Notice the shape of the plastic pieces, that one end is squared off and the other end is a semi-circle. There are matching depressions pressed into the metal on either side of the structure where these plastic pieces go. Problem is that are not deep and there is no way to hold them in place. Try doubling over some painters tape to hold them in place on either side of the vertical post. I got mine attached by sliding through just enough bolt for the plastic piece to hang onto, then inserted the vertical post. Still I'm shy about torquing the bolt until "the metal does not move" as stated in the instructions. Hope this helps.

    why do ebike companies think everyone wants a fat tire bike??????? 2 thumbs down on fat tires!!!!

    • @daveyJ213
      @daveyJ213 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I think you get bikes with any size tire you want. I know Specialized makes one that looks just like a regular road bike: Turbo Vado SL 4.0. I was out riding yesterday and saw a couple riding on what appeared to be 26"x2.5" tires. However, I know what you mean. If most of your riding is on paved streets and trails, giant 4" tires are overkill.

    • @daveyJ213
      @daveyJ213 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Feels a bit "lurchy" until to get use to it. Just remember, you MUST apply pressure to the pedals in order to get any power back from the motor. As soon as you stop pedal pressure, the motor cuts off. With that said, even in PAS 1 and 1st gear, it's nearly impossible to go less than 10 mph. Sometimes I've had to go down to PAS 0 in order to navigate around pedestrians, or pets on the trail, or slow moving traffic. However, in a nut shell: It's been great.

    Are you happy with the torque sensor on your Dual Star?

    • @daveyJ213
      @daveyJ213 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, so far it's great. Seemed a bit sensitive at first, almost to the point of being glitchy, but it delivers power very smoothly once you get going. Just remember it takes pressure on the pedals to get power out of the system, thus your legs will always be under a bit of stress. You have to protect your knees with the correct ratio of power and gearing. That's why some people prefer cadence sensors, because all you have to do is move the cranks to get power out. It's amazing, because as powerful as this bike is I always feel like a get a workout. My thighs always have a slight burn going after a one hour ride.

    Good video I learned some things from it never throttle into a turn on gravel👍 I want to pretty much get the same bike only step through, I’ve got bad knees, bad foot bad back and it would just be a lot easier for me, my last bike it was just too hard to throw my leg over it. One of the reasons I sold it, and because I want a bike with more power like e-cells has.

      It's a great bike. However, it takes some getting use to. My wife and I have been riding recumbent tricycles for years; they are totally comfortable. So after riding the E-Cells monster, I've noticed some soreness in my back and knees. Having the power is fantastic, but still have to be aware of the grade I'm on and the gear I'm in, etc. Not to mention the weight of 110 lbs. I try to be careful, I don't want to crash or fall with all of that weight on top of me. If you're not 100% sold you might want to look into a recumbent. There is no stress on any body parts. We have AZUB machines; they're incredible. Anyway, take care brother. Let me know what you decide to do. Thanks for reaching out.

      I did. I took a ride with the seat about 1.5 inches lower. I was able to get onto the bike, but as imagined the ride was just not as comfortable.
