SLOW ROAMERS
Canada
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 16 ต.ค. 2016
Hey, we're Alex and Megan, the Slow Roamers. We're all about diving headfirst into life, chasing experiences that make it pop. Our secret? Embracing tiny living to unlock a larger-than-life existence. Our cozy home? An old delivery van affectionately named Betty. Together, we're exploring the Americas.
Alex feels most alive in wide, open spaces. He's a master at not just exploring but also building things, especially vehicles that help him reach those picture-perfect vistas.
Megan has tasted the corporate life, decided it wasn't her jam, and opted for something much more mouthwatering. Food is her love language, and cooking is her art form.
As for Betty, she's no ordinary van. A 2WD Chevy Express 2500 turned into an off-road champ. We're all about pushing limits, testing Betty's mettle, and seeing just how far her wheels can take us.
We're the Slow Roamers, our gig is about wide horizons, scrumptious eats, and unraveling the essence of the Americas.

Treacherous Exit From Telkwa Pass | Northern Canada OVERLAND Van Life
มุมมอง 11K14 วันที่ผ่านมา
After succeeding a "4x4 Access Only" route through the epic Telkwa Pass in northern BC, we found ourselves at an incredibly beautiful remote mountain lake. Stunning indeed, but we were only half way through the Pass and still needed to make it out (alive). Surely the second half would be an easier exit. WRONG!! It was more "escape" than "exit". Join us for the exciting conclusion to our mission...
British Columbia Back Roads | Telkwa Pass

After a 16-hour ferry ride from Port Hardy to Prince Rupert, we make a break for the mountains and attempt to access a remote mountain lake, a camp spot considered inaccessible without 4x4. This is our biggest mission yet! We'll push the van to its limits .. and possibly past? If you love epic views, nail-biting adventure, living on the edge, and watching a 2WD delivery van being put through it...

3 Days Off-Grid | Taking A Break From It All

Hello from somewhere in Oregon! After our recent van life escapade in Nevada (last week's Stuck & Alone), we were both in dire need of an off-grid break. Since we pulled a U-turn at the southern tip of Baja and began our northward journey to Canada, we haven’t really stopped, and nothing has quite felt...
STUCK & ALONE | Did We Go Too Far?

Had we gone too far this time? Our unexpected snowy, muddy, overland adventure in Nevada brought us to THAT place - you know, that wash-out kinda place where the far side was steeper and softer than we thought. Next time you're up here I highly suggest checking out Exstew falls. Just before terrace coming from prince Rupert. Absolutely gorgeous falls. Also a camp ground before the falls.
I’ll put it on the list! Thanks for the suggestion😁
you guys have a the best content of this type, great visuals and story telling and you actually go off road in that van. we have an E 350 SMB, how do you rate that WeldTec lift? thinking of swapping out our older setup and U Joint crazy expensive. thnx, Rob
Thanks Rob, glad you’re enjoying the video! I’d say WTD stuff is super well built and you won’t be disappointed with the ride. Slap a locker or LSD in the back end and you’ll be laughing.😁
KILLER VIDEO ❤ and I am so glad I turned around at that hill because it was just a few days after that… my transmission went in my van. Could you imagine it going deeper into that trail. My gosh sometimes you just have to trust that gut feeling. ENJOY YER JOURNEY
Thanks Chrome! Yeah man, it was steep, steep and only got worse, you’d have been up shit creek without a paddle. Thanks for watching!
So beautiful! Amazing Can't wait to explore!
You’re gonna looooooove it!😁
Thanks for the video. We drove by you in Whitehorse, @AZTroopyBC. I saw you checking us out.
Oh sweet! Ya, the green Troopy! I think I caught you checking us out too…🤣😉 Glad you found us, thanks for watching!🙌🏻
This looks so epic guys! Can't wait to discover this!! Enjoy 🤩
It’s such a good spot to spend a few days, you’ll love it.
The quality of your videos is outstanding! The scenery doesn't hurt, either :)
Thank you! Honestly, the scenery does most of the work.😁😉
@SlowRoamers I just discovered your channel while researching Chevy vans. Thank you for making this fantastic video and I am now your new subscriber. What model year is your van? I am currently shopping for a used Chevy which I plan to set up for occasional camping trips. A question for you and other experienced readers who are willing to share the experience and knowledge. What would be the best model year(s), what engine size and what tranny would you look for if you were in the market for a used Chevy? My budget for just buying a van is under $10 k. Thanks in advance and best wishes from Maryland!!!
Hey, glad you found us and that our video could be of help. Thanks for following along! We have a 2006 2500 1ton package. It’s got the 4.8 with 4L80e 4spd auto. We’re partial to this particular year/engine/weight combination, although I think we’d like the bigger engine. I’m not certain if the express vans come with a 5.3 but if they did, that’s what I’d prefer.
@@SlowRoamers Thank you very much and glad to hear 4.8 is doing ok for you!!! A contractor on hvac-talk forum said this:" My 07 2500 has the 4.8 and even loaded with tools and a ladder on the roof, I haven't noticed any lack of performance." And on Chevrolet forum comments on 4.8 vs bigger in express vans one poster had the same preference you have. He said: " I would go with the 5.3. Its a 327 and newer more efficient engine. Plus it gives you more towing, cargo weight and chassis options." Wishing you and your lovely girlfriend joyful and safe journeys
@@slobodantrendic22 yessir! The 4.8 is great and super reliable albeit a little underpowered for our heavy van, but it gets us around which all we need!
4l80e trans is much better than the 4l60e.
👍🏼
Love seeing all the comments from new subscribers. Bring 'em on, folks. And welcome!! ❤😀
🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻😁
Gotta say with great views and a great bakery it sounds pretty appealing! What would you do for a living there? I'd do forestry I suppose silviculture or tree planting, can do that anywhere! You can stop most bleeding instantly with micro pore paper tape applied directly to the wound. It forms a clot. When it's time to change the dressing you can wash the tape off. I always impress the hospital staff with that one 😆
Well, we’ll be honest and tell you that we hope YT is completely covering the bills one day. So, that’s what we’d likely do (if not I’d go back into heavy industry and drive truck or operate machinery). We have a lot of stacked and layered plans for our future, all of which involve creating weekly films to share with people who enjoy seeing what we do with our lives. So yeah…😀 As for the tape, we’re definitely gonna have to look that up. I foresee further drone accidents in my life…unfortunately.
@@SlowRoamers hard work trying to make a living from TH-cam! Would be nice though you can take it anywhere you want. That tape is in most drug stores.
@@CanadianSledDog it sure is hard work, but rewarding and we’re working for ourselves. 😁
❤😂 good morning! Newbe here!! Beautiful scenery/info share… 😊 Loved the mom comment @ end of hike! But gees “ always have first aide” strips included’ ❤a mom ! Hope your finger heals quickly!!!
Haha, yeahhhh…we learned our lesson. Bring a small med kit with us.🤣 Glad you found us, thank you for following along!
Awesome video again guys. Safe travels.
Thanks so much and thank you for watching!
I’m running a G80 locker 33” A/T tires and rancho adjustable shocks with rough country air ride suspension in a 2wD 2012 gmc sierra 6.0 hybrid 1500. I go where I want cautiously. Air down and keep momentum up. Looking forward to more adventures.
That’s the way, there are loads of places you can access with that setup!🙌🏻

Awesome video! Thank you! I’m a new subscriber and have a feeling that I’ll be hooked. I live just south of BC in Bellingham, WA. In the process of buying a new Subaru and a small teardrop trailer. The plan is for my dog (Billy) and me to take off next summer to BC and Alaska for some slow moving adventure. We’re both getting older so the big hikes are out. But hours of staring at incredible mountains is in. Still a bit unsure about bear activity with a dog but I’ll do some research. I’m taking notes on the towns and locations where you stop. Much appreciated and I look forward to more videos!
Hey Bob, glad you found us! I grew up in Abbotsford, so I know Bellingham well. You're gonna love the Subary/tear drop combination and living on the road! As for bears, the dog will likely help, but we haven't seen many on this trip, just small black bear on the side of the road for the most part. Thanks for following along!
Hey Slow Roamers! I’m a slow-watcher this week, but I’m glad I got caught up. Thanks to your videos, B.C. is on our list to visit next summer. So many beautiful places to see! Thanks for introducing us to the fourth character in your series, “Chad.” 😂 Also, “YES,” to mushrooms on burgers!!
Hey hey! Glad you enjoyed this one. There are actually a number of characters that viewers haven't yet, but they're BTS stars, so maybe they'll be introduced later. Also glad you've added BC to your list, you won't be disappointed!
awesome channel guys
Thanks Niko!!🙌🏻🙌🏻
Watch those hand catches with the drone. Super easy to cut a finger tendon! Not worth the risk. Get a pair of leather gloves if you want to continue with the hand catches. Roam on.
I’m just going back to landing on my flat out held hand, works better, safer. 😁
That was the ocean inlet😂 , the skeena doesn't start until much further up.

Great trail, I biked it twice from Telkwa to Terrace. Also, please be sure to trust me when I say the case is made to live in Terrace, not Smithers. Miles better, centralized to so much more, and you don't get the entitled attitude.
lol, interesting point of view. Thanks for watching!
Terrace is bigger, with a bigger new hospital, better airport with cheaper and more frequent flights and better access to multiple fishing rivers. It's an industry hub. Smithers is smaller, more pastoral, a balance between industry and agriculture, kind of a mix between the coastal and the interior. Disagree about the entitled attitude. Visit both to decide.
Nice video and love your content but please NEVER stay on the way of your line when winching! Specially if it is a steel cable!!!
Great advice. Thanks for sharing.
Subscribed! Great cinematography and story telling! Camera setup?
Whew! So glad you found us, thanks for following along! This video was shot with a Canon R8 and 24-105 f4
Thanks for the inspirational videos. My wife and I now plan on revisiting British Columbia. So much beauty!
Whew! Thats so great! Thanks for watching!
Nice adventure guys .one of our favorite places to visit and hike .new subscriber 🤟
Whew! Thanks for following along, glad you found us. Atlin was definitely put on our map as a return to place, it’s so beautiful there.
Love the video and glad to see people enjoying a place in my backyard. That being said locals appreciate when the name of a trial isn’t mentioned to prevent large crowds of tourists. I hope you enjoy the rest of your trip north!
what GPS system do you use? Garmin? thanks
Gaia
True adventurer. Just wash it in the creek and venture on.
lol, never cared much for antiseptic…🤷🏼♂️🤪
Just as well those rotors are not made of steel.
That would be very ouch…🫤
We are really enjoying your travels, thank you for sharing and hi from Australia:D
Weeooo! That’s a long ways away! Thank you for watching!
great video as normal but when your away from town you should get agood first aid kit do you need one or are you set up with one? take care all the best ,
We have one and this certainly reminded us that we need to carry it with us when we hike. 😊
Your cinematography, narration, music selection and videos in general are an incredible form of art and your creative expression! Each week as I get one step closer on my Chevy Express bus build, I watch your videos lying in bed and get to satisfy a bit of my desire for life on the road until it's finally time for the real thing. Thank you for not only showcasing the stunning places you explore but helping keep the inspiration and excitement burning. 🔥 I miss BC dearly and can't wait to explore the North, especially the Yukon as well. - Buyzen from Saskatchewan 🌾
Your not alone...1000 islands Canada....your sentiments are reflective of my thoughts as well!!
Thanks so much. We’re so stoked that we our videos are inspiring people all around Canada and the world. 😊 Good luck with the build, I know from a lot of experience that it can be daunting, especially a bus build, but it’ll soon be in rear view. Keep on moving forward!🙌🏻🙌🏻😁
😁😁😁😁
Another amazing video! Can’t wait to finish my van build and get out and explore our big beautiful province BC, I lived here my whole life and never really explored it. I just need an amazing grommet chef to travel with lol
Thanks Cody! Best put your head down and work hard! Good luck with the build, you’ll be looking back on these days soon!🙌🏻

I can vouche, it was delicious. Thanks for watching!
Agree!! 😋
Ouch sorry about the finger but the drone shot's are amazing how vast of a country we live in & the beauty we have to enjoy. The food always look's good too have a safe trip i'll be riding along from my chair
Sometimes you gotta pay for the views in blood!🤣 I’m super blessed to have Meg cooking for us in the van, we eat like kings and queens.
Nothing like northern BC. We haves talked many times of in eating up there , or Yukon. Spend the summers and adventure the summers. Another ama ing video my friends 🍻
Yeahhhh, this place is burying its hooks in us.
As I was watching, I could still feel my knobbie-clad 1150 GS wandering around on that grate bridge into Teslin. The thing seemed super long. Spectacular country. 13+k subs! Folks are finding you two.
Really exceptional country, so beautiful. People are definitely finding us and we’re super stoked on it
WOW!! Now one question, the area that you mentioned that you "might" consider moving to, is that the same area as the bakery? I have to admit it certainly is beautiful, and if the bakery is part of the equation.... well, it can't get any better than that, or can it? LOL! As always thanks for sharing, can't wait for your next video!!
We’d likely try to find something outside of town, but yeah, the bakery was super awesome in Atlin. It’s such a beautiful area. Thanks for watching, Jackie!
Have you ever thought about fishing some of the rivers and streams you come by? I've been a big water fisherman my whole life and never had any interest in fishing rivers. Until i visited Yellowstone. There's something serene and primal standing in a high mountain stream, listening to the sounds, smelling the air, and the privilege to interact with these amazing creatures we call trout. Just a thought. Great video, keep em coming!
I think one day I could get into fishing, but right now we move around too much. There’s lots that we want to do in life, but a big chunk of it will be in the stationary portion of our lives. Thanks for watching!
Now we know the tag “Beautiful British Columbia “

I adore these videos - thanks for showing us such cool, remote places!
