Can Speakly make you fluent? | Language Learning App Revisited
Does any body know know a app that teaches Pennsylvania dutch (Amish dutch) I also need something that can get me to an advanced level in Spanish and Japanese.
The only apps I use to learn languages are LingQ, Anki, and TH-cam, I only want to be able to undestand so these are perfect for me. TH-cam have tons of videos perfect for immersion, I can import content into Lingq and be able read and even listen while i am doing something else, and I use anki for flashcard, i started studying English seriously a few weeks ago using these tools, and now i feel i am really having progress. I am right now focusing on improving my English and learning French.
The Sims is really good for when you're just beginning to learn a language. You can pause if you need to and you learn pretty quickly what each command means as your sims acts on them. Like say with Spanish comer means eat, beber means to drink, charlar is chat, dormir is sleep, etc. And of course furniture is muebles, pool is piscina. If you're playing Castaway you learn about food or alimento. In Pets you learn about cats and dog a.k.a. gatos y perros. It won't make you fluent but the words will stay in your mind pretty well.
really good , me too i think that learning through video games is the best way to get rid of the frustration , i wish you have mentioned some games
what is your Turkish level now
Would you be able to tell me how were you able to add the app into OBS studio to make this video
Thank you so much for creating such a wonderful video! Is there any chance you could create a review video of FlexClip in the future?
Thanks so much for making a review! I really enjoy your videos. I’m learning Korean, not Turkish, but I was very curious about the program, since I did read his intermediate Korean story book, which I was very satisfied with. I look forward to your next video 🎉
Thank you so much for your positive feedback :-). I guess the course will be similar, when it comes to the structure. But Korean of course is a different challenge :D. Respect for that!
Our book will be much nicer!!
great video btw
Thank you very much, Max! We'll do our best, I'm sure :-).
Are there any online structured courses that work on the principal to teach french as fast as possible. Small group would be cool and more than 2+ hrs a day. (private classes I can find a teacher on italki/preply and hire them everyday but I can't tell if they are motivated to make me learn as fast as possible since they make more money if I learn slowly). Course should be designed to make you learn as fast as possible and not drag out the course to make more money. Is there such a thing availble?
I know what you mean, but I wouldn't suspect any teacher to try to make you learn slower… Many probably just don't know the “best”-way. And what's “best” is also pretty subjective, since we all are a bit different. In the end, you have to spend lots of time with the language. So I would anyway definitely focus on reading and listening a lot. This way you can build up a solid comprehension, without even needing any teacher. Additionally, what's very useful to get a grasp of the language is to use languagetransfer, which is free and provides you with the structure of the language. Then, when it comes to speaking and classes, you could try Lingoda, which offers you a classical lesson approach with a curriculum, but also lots of interaction. It works quite good. Other than that 1:1 lessons on italki, just speaking and always trying to use some new structures and slowly building up your repertoire of things to say. There are no shortcuts. Of course, you can speed some things up a little, but to really get good in a language, you will always have to spend the time needed to give your brain the chance to learn it properly.
I created the stories about me walking through the Paris, eating in the restaurant and even the poem just by giving description of the beautiful women, then I listen few times to get the pronunciation correct. I even asked GPT to avoid certain grammar rules. than you can develop the story in any direction you want. On PC nowadays you can listen to the audio and read the text at the same time. You can paste your own text and make GPT to read the text aloud by typing "repeat the following back to me: and paste the text here. Generally, it makes you to work with the language
Wow, super cool! It's just getting better and better. The more we engage with the language, the better. It's just that for many it might be overwhelming, when you have no real direction. So some guard rails, might be cool. But, there are multiple AI's coming specifically for language learning. That'll solve it.
Ist die App auf englisch oder kann man die auch auf deutsch stellen ? Möchte nämlich kroatisch lernen und mein englisch ist nur so wirklich gut 😅
Du kannst auch die Sprache, von der du lernst, umstellen :-).
I use Drops, Lingodeer, Duolingo, Fluenday, and Mondly. Plus, I am taking an online course with videos and courses and take a language class once a week. I also do Clozemaster. I have Memrise, but I prefer the previous version. I still use it a bit.
The app looks great, I wish it would be available on PC/Mac. I hate that developers make new softwares mostly on smartphones, I hate being plugged to my phone all the time. I hope they will make it available online on website.
Yes, I know exactly what you mean… Sometimes it's nice to just do something in front of the computer without distractions, instead of being glued to the screen of a smartphone...
Thank You for your video! I am planning to buy the full version on Black Friday! I have used Anki for years, and want something else.
You're welcome! Glad that you did like it. Anki is great, but using Drops is just such a low effort activity and a nice pass time.
Maybe *some* AIs won't just kill us all :)
Haha, yes let's hope so :-).
So glad I found this video - thank you! I'm studying four languages at the moment, and was wondering if this was perhaps a bad idea, but your video is very reassuring, with very helpful tips. Thank you!!
No problem, you're welcome :-). Just try out what works for you. Most important, don't stress yourself out too much.
i hate that it's impossible to know the meaning of a whole sentence using the app in iOS
Well, it actually works, but I have to admit that it has gotten clunkier recently… I hope they fix it.
I just wanted to say your accent in English sounds absolutely beautiful.
Thank you so much :-). That's very kind!

I started my Duolingo German course just after my university finals in May 2024, as I was heading to Germany for an international summer school program in July 2024. I got to around 750 words learnt before my departure. I tried to order a breakfast at Frankfurt Airport entirely in German once I got off the plane, and it was successful. In fact, half of my Cru stage group knows the language.
Thank you very much for sharing your experience, Samuel! I'm glad that it worked out for you, but you also did the step and started talking. That's pretty brave and many people don't dare to do it :-). You got definitely the right mindset!
Disappointing review. For example, you didn't give all the pricing options. e.g live sessions.
Not sure what you mean. I showed everything that's related to the regular app in terms of pricing: my.babbel.com/en/prices Sorry to hear you didn't like the video...
About 10 months in learning Turkish. Using Yeni Istanbul cours books (B1 now), Short Stories in Turkish, Duolingo (all levels done) and occasional use of LingQ, and Anki. I speak to two different native speakers on iTalki every weekend (around 50 minutes each). I feel like I've hit the plateau, though, because I am too busy to study new materials. I am mostly trying to not lose what I have learned. Turkish Via, Turkish Journey, Easy Turkish and Ali Yılmaz are great channels for beginners. As a low-intermediate student, I use the following TH-cam Channels for daily listening. They talk a lot about self-development and language learning and speak very clearly. Berk MD, Reşat Ören and Baraneemo. Some travel TH-camrs I like are LaptopluGezgin, Kekmundo, and İlyas Mutlu.
Wow, thank you so much for all the resources and also for sharing your experience. I will definitely look them up and probably also use some of them in the future. Maybe it feels like you've hit a plateau, but I'm sure you're still progressing, but it's probably slower now, because the further you get with a language the longer it takes to reach the next level. What you are doing sounds very good, and you put a lot of effort into it. Just keep going.
Ah I got some more channels for you :). Can't wait to consume all the videos once I'm at the right level: Travel TH-camr fom Germany, who speaks Turkish with a nice German accent :D: th-cam.com/users/TravelComic Or another TH-camr from Germany who does videos in Turkish about society etc. th-cam.com/users/juliagrnr
şimdi Türkçe seviyen nasıl. ayrıca benim içeriklerimden de Türkçe öğrenebilirsin.
Can you make a video about how you improve writing skills and grammar output?
Heyho, well it's all connected. About writing, I've already made a few videos. th-cam.com/video/fOKngWmncZQ/w-d-xo.html Grammar is something that is connected to everything, and I wouldn't overemphasize on it. It's important, for sure, but the major part of the learning should come from consuming comprehensible and compelling input.
"Stop starting! Start finishing!" 💖✨ Thank you very kindly, Dustin, such an honest progress report, and one that I can really relate to! Turkish is much more difficult than Mandarin and Hebrew even though it uses the western alphabet. The possessive case is driving me crazy, lol, because of the suffixes having to be added to more than one word in the sentence (or phrase). Also, "a" is a separate word/article, but "the" is not - it has to be added as a suffix, which really complicates things, as you pointed out. But I'm glad to (try to) learn it, to better help my Turkish students who are learning English. Blessings!
Thank you so much for your support and the positive vibes you give me. It's super motivating to hear from you :). I don't know about Mandarin or Hebrew, but I guess there are very different difficulties, like the script for example. It highly depends on which languages you speak already, of course. Haha yes, the suffixes and all the cases. But it really has its beauty and is truly fascinating. I guess we just have to accept that it takes time and that we will make a loooot of errors. It must be interesting to see the errors your Turkish students make and by that also learn how the Turkish language works, and why they are making the errors. Have a great start into the week :).
In some ways Mandarin and Malay are easier since they don't have tenses and grammatical genders, their number system is also super easy. Malay even use the same English alphabet.
LEKKER BEZIG MAN! Je inspireert mij om ook Farsi weer helemaal op te pakken.
Dank je wel! Doe het man :D. Je bent al zo ver gekomen.

My name is Diane and I am blind. Audio books are very important to me. I absolutely LOVE this App!!! But I am having a wee bit of a probblem. I only seem to get so far in a book, and then it just says "Buffering." I don't know why.
Hey Diane, yes I can imagine, and I'm so glad that there is more and more stuff coming that helps us to generate more audio content easily. That's weird, I sometimes get also to the point that it stops and says buffering, but after a wait a bit it continues. Also, sometimes it doesn't work at all, but I hope that it stabilizes and gets better. They are still in the early phases.
Haha, great minds think alike! I signed up for the lowest premium level so that I could get English videos translated to Chinese for my buddy in China. Really appreciate your very in-depth look at ElevenLabs' features - thank you, Dustin! (I didn't use much of the features, because the less of them I use, the more minutes of translation I save for the month's alottment to use later. You can, for instance, use the AI to replicate the voice of the speaker on the original video.) Sounds like the app might be even better than the pc version. Blessings! 💖🤗
I want to sip some coffee now. Coffee sounds good!
Agreed :D.
I have been using Duolingo for just a few weeks shy of a year! They have a gay themed format! Which really bothers me!! I planned on deleting the app for their pushing their gay agenda!!!! I decided to stay Learning because they offered learning (despite their devious gay agenda…) I thought they were pro learning! Then they made their opportunities for working your way in learning if you didn’t want to pay for whatever reason … they are now daily taking away the ability to really learn by Super Pressure to Purchase their Max Duolingo!!!!! I thought Duolingo a fair app until this last few weeks give or take. I could earn my hearts ♥️Through diligent hard work 😓… Now they have taken that away … I am looking to finish my year streak and find another way to learn Spanish like Rosetta Stone ( which is free if you have a library card) I wanted to learn Spanish not be so frustrated that I no longer desire or enjoy Duolingo!!!! I feel they don’t appreciate those who work as hard as I do on their site - Looks like their Gay Agenda and Now their Lack of interest in serving all people in every economic situation to strive to learn languages is no longer important! Only Money and Twisted Abominations are their goals! So I will be saying Good Bye to Duolingo at my successful Year Streak!
Toller Ratschlag, ich lese gerade Manga auf Deutsch und es läuft ziemlich gut.
Das freut mich! Du schreibst sehr gut :).

New LingQ user for a week. Started with Mini-Stories, but now I see that Guided Courses may be a better start. I learned that in your video. Danke!
You're welcome! The mini stories are great, but not the very easiest content within LingQ. You need anyway lots of content, so the more you read and listen to the better :). Which language are you learning?
@@DustinSchermaul I was wrong, now I think Mini-Stories is the best way, will go on with that. I do Mandarin, 学习中文
I've been using Lute and it does everything LingQ does but it's free and very easy to set up.
Is this worth paying for and also good video
Thank you so much for your positive feedback. If you are looking for a structured course to get a good overview about the grammar and the language, it can be definitely worth it. But I wouldn't use it as the main resources for learning. The main activity should be to develop a solid comprehension of the language, by reading and listening a lot. And then at a later point you can also start speaking.

Hello Brother Halo bruder Merhaba. I am over the moon to hear from you that you are willing to learn Arabic. I encourage you and wish you the best of luck😊
Merhaba :), for now, I'm learning Turkish, but Arabic is definitely on my list. The Arabic world is huge and it would be super cool to learn that language.
@@DustinSchermaul You’re absolutely right ! I wish you much of success in your learning process Dustin ! I am learning Turkish too , but Spanish is my priority. I also aim to learn German in the Future.
They need to improve the listening. I spoke in French and it wrote something completely different that I didn't pronounce at all. I said two words and it wrote a long sentence. Weird. I talk in a dictionary app instead and it writes what I said correctly.
I think it varies strongly by the different languages. There are still many things to be improved. Let's see in which direction it goes. And for so long, I will also try other similar apps to see what else is out there :).
A shame that customer service is unusable. NO HELP with glitches and problems on the site.
I haven't tried out the customer service, so I can't say anything about that :(. Super annoying thing I can imagine.
You need translation of German language into Hindi.
Jup that would be definitely useful!
I had to buy the premium plan since the standard free stamina wasn’t enough. This is a lot more fun than Duolingo.
No free option. Only 7 day trial after you give them your payment info. 😔
Arghs, sorry, I'm not sure that it has been like that when I tried it out. That's super annoying, I totally agree!
Honestly easly dutch is the best!
Yes all the easy languages channels are awesome :).
Seriously, you do fake drinking right at the start of your video, and I'm supposed to believe anything you say afterwards?
Wow, you must be really frustrated, if that triggers you to write such a comment. I'm truly sorry for you.
@@DustinSchermaul Well, not really. It's just that I've seen a number of TH-camrs do it and it's such a peculiar thing to do. What's it for?
@@kingbolo4579 It's just because I like coffee or sometimes also a tea and I usually drink that when I sit down to learn, for example. Nobody wants to see a robot talking, but a real human ;-).
Small Update: They now have added a new functionality to train specific situations like a hotel check-in or how to order in a restaurant. That's super useful!
Thank you, Dustin - you're the best! ✨ Looking forward to your coverage of more AI language practice. Blessings!
Thank you so much for your positive feedback! :) Yes, there are many new apps etc. to explore. Do you have any specific in mind that I should take a look at?
@@DustinSchermaul No, lol, I wait to see what you'll find and share, but thank you very kindly for asking. 💖 You're amazing at this! How's the Turkish going? (Bet you're pretty fluent by now.) 😎
@@halleluyah8241 no problem, just wanted to ask :). Thank you so much! Turkish is progressing, but I'm suuuuper far away from fluency. Still many things to learn and understand, but I'm not in a rush. Language learning is a marathon, not a sprint. The more time I spend with the language, the more fascinating it gets. 🙂
@@DustinSchermaul That's the perfect attitude about it - keep things fun and loose! 🤗 It makes a big difference in our capacity to retain what we learn. I've been working on the accusative (o yumurtayi = that egg, etc.) and also what I think of as the copula because it's so similar to the Hebrew copular use of "this" (e.g.) as inclusive of the verb "is" - when you're trying to say something like "This is a girl" - so if you were translating it literally, it would just look like "This girl." (Sorry, that was probably as clear as mud. 😂) The real challenge, for me, is Chinese because of the characters. If you know of a good system for learning Pinyin, I would really appreciate hearing about it. In the meantime, slow and teady wins the race. God bless you, my friend.
@@halleluyah8241 haha yes that was really a little complicated what you've written, but I think I've understood it! About the learning the Chinese characters. So I know from the videos of Robin MacPherson, he actually used an app called Skritter for that and said it should be very good: skritter.com/ He also made a video about it. Maybe it helps you: th-cam.com/video/5Pglt4az_N0/w-d-xo.html Have a great week! :)
Not sure if I can trust AI, what if it teaches me wrong stuff? Does LingQ have a similar feature of chatting with AI? don't really want to take up so many subscriptions.
You're totally right. This is something we really need to be careful of. But I've also already been taught wrong stuff by human teachers. We should always be critical and check the sources. LingQ does not yet have such a feature, and I don't know if they will introduce it. But as said, this is still in the early stages and I wouldn't say that it's a “must-buy”, but rather a “nice to have”. I also just got a monthly subscription and have canceled it to try out some more stuff.
