Your Sailboat Needs to be a Good Powerboat
มุมมอง 6Kปีที่แล้ว
You need to know this before you buy a sailboat. An insufficiently powered sailboat will not only undermine your sailing project, but it's also a safety concern. The people at Privilège Catamarans understand this and build sailboats for long-distance sailors with that in mind. Of course, sailing is still a priority and we won't saddle you with inferior 'delivery' sails. The Privilege 510 is sui...
Buying a Boat at a Boat Show? Don't
มุมมอง 6Kปีที่แล้ว
We know this may sound counter-intuitive, but buying a boat at a boat show is not a good idea. Boat shows are a great place to view and get to know the different boat builders, but they don't give a sense of the real-world experience and are more akin to a home and garden show. So instead, we encourage you to visit the boat yard before making such an important purchase. Having said that, we loo...

Privilège Signature 580: What You Don't See at a Boat Show
Another great video. Thanks Rob.
That's a great proposal. We are in the Med in Spring 25 with our vessel Piorena.
I’ve seen older Privilege boats and they still look great.
You poor man, you are so short, you can’t see over the Helm🫤
I could listen to you talk about this boat all day! If I could, I would. It’s a beautiful well thought out sailing machine. Like previously commented, you and your team have done a lot for the brand. Was great seeing you again a the show. I hope to call you some day and say, we’re gonna build a 510! Take care Rob and cheers to you and the team!
Thank you for the kind words Dan. We have a lot to work with.
Great cat!
I'm not sure how it would work out, but has anyone had one built with the galley down in the 510 series? As a person who dreams of sailing the world, I believe that galley down is a must, but that's my opinion.
Are you the person uses the galley most?
We also agree that a galley down is great on a liveaboard vessel but unfortunately the 510 is the only Privilege that does not offer that option.
@@PrivilegeCatamaransAmerica Great on a liveaboard? Galley up is one of the great selling points of the catamaran. If you're on watch the kettle is just a few steps away, and if you're prepping a meal you're not stuck down below while others are enjoying the scenery, or action.
@@PrivilegeCatamaransAmerica How many of these do you expect to sell with such a negative comment :-).
@@helmshardover I do all the cooking, as far as anything else, you can always have an electric kettle up along with a beverage fridge and cabinet for snacks. As a male at 60 years old, I've done over 95% of the cooking while married. The galley just makes more sense to me. The closer you are to the water line, the less movement in the boat, plus down looks like you have a lot more countertop area than the galley up. You can always have a small nook up as a bar, breakfast or light lunch break area. Sad thing is that I can't afford one unless I were to hit the lottery, but I can always dream.
It better be forever for what they are charging.
If I were fortunate to be in the market for such a beauty I would insist (even though I live in the UK) that I buy it from you, as no one has done more for the brand than you Rob.
Great video
Excellent video thank you brother!
Love that 510
So it doesn't have any bedrooms? Or did you leave them out on purpose ?
Impressive
If I had the money, I would love to have a new Privilege built as a hybrid diesel with tons of Solar.
Flawed statements with cherrypicked data
can I equip 510 with 110 hp engines
Yes, there is an option for 110 hp.
My Dream
Why a 720p video? That is odd.
What kind of resin do you use for the hull.?
Using your competitors' troubles to promote your own product? That's just low. If I had any respect for Privelege I just lost it.
Well done !👍
I wish a storm was waiting for me on a 580 instead😃
Never understood why Privilege don't offer a furling mainsail?
Privilege does in fact offer a furling main as an option. We've never strongly promoted it because management of our mainsail/Park Avenue boom has proven to be so efficient.
These cats are the epitome of a liveaboard catamaran! I love your boats! COME ON LOTTERY!!😫
@@PrivilegeCatamaransAmerica Thanks for the reply. I was wondering why we had never seen one, or why Rob had never talked about them given his previous role.
@@PrivilegeCatamaransAmerica ... Question -- Do you still have the 585 molds? Would they be available for sale should someone want them?
And when is mine launching? ; )
Цена какая?

Wow what a beautiful boat
Где былая роскошь? Где дорогие породы дерева? Почему я вижу ikea?
Острые углы, Айкеа, не знаю сколько это стоит, но вы правы сударь. Рекомендую взглянуть на НН88, made in China, лодка называется Crazy Love. Либо лодка соседа, НН50 Synergy V.
The old models with the incredible wood interiors were sheer opulence. Love that look but it's no longer in fashion. If you want that type of interior maybe it can be done customly.
Wish me luck on the lottery
You and I both.
If you look at the AWA on the B&G gauges in the video, the best is 60 degrees. To weather is a traditional weak area for cats. What the ARC data shows is that if wind is consistently a beam and aft, you should buy a Lagoon, a cruising Trimaran (Neel 47) is possibly a better choice than a moderate Performance catamaran (Outremer 51), and it will take approx. 6-8 days on average. The other take away is LWL is, as always the best indicator of speed. After that it's likely crew experience, and after that comfort. None of those boats are hard core performance boats like a Gunboat or ORC, and the comfort will be relative. The real decision on comfort is, can you reduce the number of days at sea, without compromising your comfort and safety? And that would take a test to weather. The ARC rally is within all catamarans 'easy' zone. To weather would sort the data better. With respect to light weight, all things being equal, light doesn't mean weak. Does more wood cabinetry make the boat stronger? Point taken on seaworthy boats you have confidence in. Being able to sail in light airs should also be comfortable, but the boat must be sturdy enough to take on heavy weather, and that's where weight will be a determining factor in comfort.
Ads annoying. Why ?
Excellent build quality! -- QUESTION --- We just watched this weeks episode of Parlay Revival and saw the horrible deck joint failure on that Lagoon. A factory installed line block connected to the bow deck, pulled apart the deck from the hull and lifted a three foot section clean back. This happened in only 12 knots of wind and exposed the front hull to the ocean. Turns out it was lightly glued to the hull and in several sections they had failed to apply any glue at all. Total nightmare. How does Privilege connect the deck to the hull and are they aware of the importance of keeping that joint completely attached and water proof? Parlay could have sunk had they been in an Ocean crossing. This Lagoon Cat needs to have the entire deck completely removed and reattached properly (if that is even possible).
Hi Coleen, if you've watched any of our production videos you'll see that we don't glue and screw bulkheads, they are fully glassed. This is also true for the deck and hull joint - they are glassed in and become a 'holistic' structure. It would be virtually impossible to take the deck off a Privilege in any wind conditions,
@@PrivilegeCatamaransAmerica ..I thought so but wanted to check after watching this weeks Parlay Revival video. Their Lagoon actually had the deck peel back, at least three feet, only to discover it was glued (very poorly glued) and a few rusty screws . Such a sad builder I must say. Really sad actually. They clearly don't care.
Dream Boat for making Dreams Come True!!🌺✌❤🤗
Imagine the beautiful 580 with that big sailing area but in full carbon fiber and with some center boards like Kinetic has. Loosing a few tons and the center boards helping go faster upwind. That will be a truly amazing package. Privilege 580 Sport Edition 😊.
A cat will cover more miles than a mono haul. With every design there are give and takes. Each buyer needs to do their homework and decide what boat will meet their own needs and wants.
A Rocna is not even close to the best anchor.
I'll be ordering mine as soon as my Lotto numbers come up.
Really nice looking I must say! -- QUESTION -- I know that buildinrs have it down to a science, but how many layers of fiberglass is on each side of that foam? Is it one? On the carbon structures, is it one layer of carbon fiber per side of foam? For the paranoid among us, can we order it with more layers??
Great question and your paranoia is born out. The very thing that differentiates one yacht builder from another is rarely the thing people take any notice of at a boat show. The FRP layup methodology is critical to a well built vessel and is much more complicated than how many layers of fabric are used. We have included discussions on this subject in some of our earlier videos. Again great question.
@@PrivilegeCatamaransAmerica ...must say that the bulkheads look so nice compared to Lagoon's. Maybe I shouldn't admit this, but in my experience things that look good tend to be good. We are all taught not to think that way but rarely are neat, good looking construction methods actually bad construction methods. It is possible but I have yet to find such an example. When I saw how Lagoon put their boats together, with all that ugly adhesive gunk and very little fiberglass tabbing, I knew that it was a bad job. Your Catamaran construction looks amazing. Still not sure how many layers are on it but I am confident that there are enough.
Forward lounger concern: What if a huge wave fills it with water
The freeboard on the 580 makes such an event unlikely, however the scuppers are sized to move water overboard if necessary.
@@PrivilegeCatamaransAmerica oh ok thanks,
Hi Rob, nice video. I´m looking forward to see the 510 in April at La Grande-Motte, will you be there? Regards Jens
I hope to see more solar and even hybrid engines on your new models. I am seeing that 1 diesel hybrid and 1 electric motor with enough battery can save you a lot on fuel and costs of upkeep. It will be nice when solar and batteries progress more. New technology has LFP tech at 350 watts per kilo now. Old LI tech gets 300 but is fire hazard and most LI out their only gets 250 per kilo. Over the next 2 years we will see 400 watts per kilo with LFP batteries. being able to put 100kw of batteries on a 50 foot catamaran is huge. right now that is 80kw for same weight. Have you looked into solar on main boom bags. could add 1kw per side maybe even 2kw.
This is a fascinating conversation.
Great informative video Rob, definitely my favorite, thanks for getting it at the show. Was great chatting with you, going to Nautilus sailing school in the Grenadines, next year, no captain licence 😁
As soon as my Lotto numbers hit, I'll be in the market for a 580, galley down in a 5 cabin layout. Big enough for the wife and I, our son, his wife and 3 kids.
Love the 510. When is the 520 coming out???
why your video are blurry?
I would love to purchase a 650 this boat is fabulous, would you take a check. ?
It's surprising how many boats are underpowered and even more so how many are going with sail drives, especially "performance" catamarans. I want a boat that, like you said, can motor when needed. I can only think of around four brands that are shaft driven, which means I will be going with one of those, eventually.
Is this made by Leopard? Looks like a Leopard or Lagoon. These used to be higher end and special and now are nice but nice like a leopard is nice.
Privilege is made by Privilege!
@@PrivilegeCatamaransAmerica ,,so what happened and what went so wrong? It is like something made by Lagoon or Leaopard. I thought that this was a higher end company in the past. Did it go bancrupt and start over or something? When did that happen?
@@Coleen_West The Privilege boatyard has never ceased operation. Please note, a 50-foot Leopard is built in 45 days, a Privilege 510 is built in over 50 weeks - there is no similarity in the quality of a production catamaran than that of a Privilege.
@@PrivilegeCatamaransAmerica ...that is great to hear. They were so so nice. I guess there is a perception that this modern contemporary look is less "quality" than before. But I watched your build series and it looked sound indeed. There is just something about the interior look that is off a bit and I can't put my finger on what it is exactly - although I do accept your statement that they are of top quality - maybe quality of materials or finishings could have been more upscale since you are demostrating it... (I hate to say that as I sound negative and I don't mean to be). Are there any videos of a build of a 585 that you could post? Would love to see how that was put together and how the bulkheads were tabbed in etc.
@@PrivilegeCatamaransAmerica what they mean is, it doesn't look like something a 60-year-old NYC hedge fund manager, or a Russian oligarch would buy so therefor it's aesthetics does not seem of quality to them.
Sorry - but you are marketing multi-million-dollar yachts, and your audio production voice-over sounds like it was recorded in a basement using 2 tin cans and a string.
