5 Essential Tips for Planning Your First African Safari!
Good video. I’m on the market for a benchtop table and this one seems like a popular choice. How did you overcome the warped table? There are lots of comments from folks having similar issues. Cheers.
Greetings, The table is pretty flat for approximately 6-8” on either side of router bit. It’s the edges of table that drop off by 1/16” or so. I’ve been able to work around this by applying downward pressure to the work piece near the center of table / bit. Hope that helps helps.
Thanks. I set my cabinet face project aside for a while due to similar frustrations. I will order the collar now
Great! Glad the video helped. Thanks for watching.
Fast forward to 3:30, your welcome
Thank you very much, Bosch engineering owes you big time, but I know how arrogant they are , customer service i not their strong suit
YW. Appreciate the feedback Thanks for watching!
I'm so glad to know how much you have appreciated your time in Puglia. Should you come back one day, don't forget to visit other unmissable towns like Trani, with its incredible white Cathedral overlooking the sea, Bari and its historical center, Giovinazzo and Molfetta, Castel del Monte with its unique octagonal shape and further North the beautiful Gargano Peninsula with its jewel towns of Vieste, Peschici and Rodi, then the Ionian coast with Gallipoli and Taranto ... and if you spare some time, the incredible city of Matera that actually lies in nearby Basilicata. Ciao from Torino and ... keep traveling!
Ciao Roberto, Thank you for your wonderful feedback. We will follow your advice to see even more of beautiful Puglia next time we visit. Also, we did visit the village of Matera… It was incredible! I will be posting a video of our stay in Matera very soon. Thanks for watching!
@@PetefromBaltimore Ciao Pete, I'm glad to read that you have already enjoyed the incredible 7,000 years old city of Matera with its "Sassi" dwellings! It used to be the shame of Italy few decades ago and now has become and incredible tourist destination. But many other places in Puglia (and the rest of Italy) are worth the visit, trust me! Ciao Roberto
@@PetefromBaltimore You will not be disappointed!

Thanks for the revelation about the crowds in Alberobello! Our masseria is only 15 minutes from there, but we'll avoid.

he wanted to do some offroading in a race
Great video...got the table set up today. Ordered and installed the 1/4" collar for the height adjustment right out of the gate...great tip!
So glad the video was helpful. Thanks for watching!
Fixed my Dads router with this
Great! Glad the video was helpful. Thanks for watching.
looks goog man, how long is the table top
The table was built to client’s specifications. The top was 72” long x 35” wide.
Thank you for this. Solved my issue EXACTLY. Nice work.
So glad the video helped. Thanks for watching!
if you were to make benches, would you make them out if the same size stock as the table or a bit smaller.
Hello If I were to make matching benches, I would build them to a smaller scale.
Great fix. I just purchased this router and table. I will add this upgrade for sure.
Glad you found the video helpful. Thanks for watching.
Thanks.
You’re welcome. Thanks for watching.
I have a DeWalt installed in the table so I'm assuming the lift is not available for me
The lift mechanism is built into this Bosch router’s base assembly. Doubtful it can be used with a Dewalt router. Maybe Dewalt offers something similar?
Thanks for the video. You solved my problem with my bosch router.
So glad the video helped solve your problem! Thanks for watching.
Just bought this router set and watched your video before I used it. $7 at Lowe’s for the drill bit clamps, 15 minutes for the setup and I was in business! Thanks for the video!
Glad you found the video to be helpful. Enjoy your new router. Thanks for watching!
Got one for $60 today. Rust on the supporting columns, a lot of gunk and old saw dust and it doesn't turn on. Upon checking, its missing the motor brushes. Hopefully those are the only reason why it won t start.
Hopefully you can get it up running. Its a great little machine when it’s set up well. Good luck!
Thanks a lot for sharing. Just ran into this yesterday. I've installed it in my bench dog extension and I also bought a dust kit. The kit took some modification to get the hose connected to vacuum. HOWEVER it still dumps dust. I think because of the other unused holes in the base. Have you run into this?
Thanks for watching. I would guess the dust collection is about 80-85% effective in my setup. There is definitely dust dropping below the router and table. I attribute it to gravity negating some of the shop vac’s effectiveness in collecting saw dust. That’s pretty good compared to many of my other tools.
I have this exact problem and it was annoying me to the point that I just removed the adjustment rod. Need to get a drill bit stop collar. Thanks so much for this fix.
I’m glad you found the video helpful. The stop collar has been working great for me. Thanks for watching.
I saw your video. Hope you can help me . I changed the blades I turned it on and it shakes so much the screws on the metal table vibrate off
Hard to say what went wrong. Its probably best to go back in and make sure all blades are installed correctly. Also, maybe check belt to verify its correctly seated. Good luck.
Pete, great video. I also recently bought a makita track saw (corded version). Unfortunately I have had issues getting perfectly straight cuts, bevel indicator issues, and a non flat base.
Glad you found the video helpful. I sent my saw back and bought a replacement. The replacement works perfectly.
I've had my 1617 for years, maybe decades. Actually never had a situation where this was or could be an issue. BUT it won't be an issue now! Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching!
This video was very helpful as we’re planning a trip to Jackson Hole in September.
That’s great to hear. So glad you found the video helpful. Thanks for watching!
2:45 - I do not condone White Lithium grease as a lubricant given that the wood dust will cling to the grease and cause the grease to congeal, and it becomes a real mess to clean. I would use WD 40 or dry lubricant. Thin oil like 3 in 1 is a good bet. All in all, like all machinery, preventative maintenance is planned maintenance and it can be once a month or every 3 or 4 months, depending on the number of hours in use. Thank you.
Thanks for the constructive feedback. Will try a different lubricant next time. Thanks for watching.
I own two 1617's but never had this problem. I can easily see, however, that it can readily become an issue so I am ordering stop collars. Good catch...and welcome advise!
So glad you found the video helpful. Good plan to install a collar before clip fails. Thanks for watching
Thanks great info
Thanks for watching.
Thanks so much for this. I had actually lost my clip when it had failed. After seeing this video, I ultimately installed a collet from one of my never-used countersink bits in one of my bit sets and tightened it hard enough to hold the rod in place. Finding another spring clip has proven to be extremely difficult, although someone else in the comments mentioned using a cotter pin, which sounds like a pretty good idea to help take the load off the collet.
I’m glad the video was helpful. Thanks for watching!
What kind of lube did you use?
Good video. The broken plastic bits may make the machine buzz or rattle. I'd epoxy them back in place.
Thanks for the feedback. And thanks for watching.
I just keep the Bosch in the plunge base, and use my Porter Cable for fixed base because its adjustment is far superior to the Bosch
Thanks for the feedback.
Great! I've been looking for a video like this, thanks
Glad you found this video helpful. Thanks for watching!
thank you so much! Did you have trouble with insert plate on the RA 1181, and if so, how did you fix it??
Hi! No, I did not have issues with the insert plate. It did take some fiddling of the adjustment screws to get it dialed in and flush with the table. But no issues with it since. Thanks for watching.
Is the lift mechanism exclusively for Bosch router/ I mean to do it from the top of the router table.
I don’t think it’s exclusive to Bosch. Thanks for watching.
Holy cow, ive spent over an hour trying to figure out why this thing wont adjust. Then i found this video. Thanks so much! Problem identified and solved with your help.
Thanks so much for watching my video. Glad it helped solve your problem!
Good review. totally agree with the fence alignment issue. Keeping it square is important if you use a featherboard on the top surface to apply inward pressure ( otherwise I guess it may not matter). Seems like there should be 2 tracks so that it only mover forward or back evenly
Thanks for the feedback! And thank you for watching.
My remedy for this is actually a couple of small pieces of angle iron and a piece of steel flat bar. Flat bar a couple of inches wider than the table, square it up and weld it to the angle iron pieces set against the sides of the table. Then you can use that to index your fence square quickly each time.
makita all day
Thanks - Just purchased this router and used it twice.. Had the same issue. Great Idea.
Thanks for the feedback and for watching!
Definitely saying “Wailea” in correctly 🫠
Does anyone product test this stuff? Mine broke the first time I used it
Hard to believe Bosch has yet to fix this issue. Thanks for watching.
Great tips Pete!
I appreciate that. Thanks for watching!
Thanks, I have been using the 230V Makita SP6000 for many years of good service. The only issue I have with this battery version is being slightly underpowered as my 230V Makita struggles sometimes.. This is what bothers me about battery power so how does it perform with thicker materials?
Thanks for the feedback and for watching. I did cut some 1 5/8” thick oak with this saw. With a slow and steady pace, It did a great job leaving a very smooth edge. Hope that helps.
Thank you. I bought this router and a router tablesnd ran into this problem within days. It ruined my whke experience. The router went bacj K to its case and the router table is redundant. Was actually thinking of selling both. Tomorrow, I'll fix this. Wonderful tip.
I hope this solution fixes your router. Thanks for watching!
