So much TONE in a little switch!
Fender’s bright switch…. Some use it, some dont. There is a great tone dynamic there, if the amp is cooking just right, it can give you more!
Just try it…?!?

Listening to vintage guitar experts is really informative and their knowledge is staggering at times, with all the information stored and at hand. Listening to you guys is something else. The excitement and energy is captivating and so much fun to listen to. You both have so much knowledge and what is priceless is the practical experience of buying and selling, investigating and most of all the playing. Thank you both for a lot of fun as well as info!
SRV saved my life in more ways than I could say He said in his book he went down to playing 11 s after he got cleaned up
another good thing if you care about your tone is get the caps changed...... the 4 big ones in the doghouse....... and u r right about hi-power speakers....try and find a peavey 12 balck widow....jbl e120...... Weber California...... Jensen Blackbird etc etc :)
Watched a few times already! Thanks!!
AMAZING GUITAR PLAYER
Chase tone rules!!
Just did this mod with exact the same vintage wah. Replaced a rock pot. What a mega improvement!! The pot is so important!
That jam at the end is excellent
Nick could you do a Phil Sayce style series hes bad ass as well
Nick you are a fricken baddddd Asssssss
Nick you are a fricken baddddd Asssssss
Every once in awhile you find a TH-cam video of someone with a deep passion for certain players this guys makes no exception, sounds like Jimi’s stuff I dig it big Jimi Fan your setup is nice bro and thank you for taking the time to do this being tired as hell and still produce Lol that’s saying something you deserve 1000 likes 👍 Bro thanks
I don’t understand what the point of MXR? Can someone please explain
Its a true bypass looper. Because the wah and tube screamer arent true bypass. So when you loop the two pedals inline, when you press the button on the mxr, it pulls them Out of the signal chain
Do you play only with the thumb? Or you do fingerpicking too?
Just a little hybrid when using a pick
@@theriffwniksevigny5473 Ty. Nice and sick playing though
Man.. You ROCK! Love it!
Thanks, that's I searched! For my "Texas-taste" i liked the clean up tone of the germanium(NTK275) is the best because it makes finger nuances to live clearly. So you can change the sound just play harder or softer. That's makes your sound more personal too because anybody can't play with just your fingers...
I mean no disrespect.
None taken. In all the vids i do, i always push the fact that they arent note for note. Its impossible to express it the way he did. Its just to help get ya there. As far as the chord, it falls in the same There were so many takes. So many bootlegs and so much improv. Playing a snippet of Riv Paradise into it was just fun. Appreciate you checking out the video and letting me know
Go watch the videoe’s dude, El Macambo playing Lenny.
You’re playing the first chord wrong.
Hey Nik, how similar are early 1960 Strats to 1959s?
Real similar. 59/60 just really had a unique neck shape and burst. By 62 they were pretty well figured. 63 are amazing too. Nice healthy neck and good tone
@ Awesome! Just scored a hardtail 1960 and absolutely love the neck shape. Thanks for the response!
Still one of the most soulful players online. Tone, phrasing, vibrato, feel. He’s got it all! Always inspiring. 😊
wow
All I can say is.. WOW!! Your playing & tone is incredible! Stevie & Jimi would be proud!!!
19:45 Hell, even a Blues jr. When I got my BJ IV my brother came over and turned the bass down to 2 and cranked the treble and mids to 11, turned up the master volume and went to town. I do the same thing with my Twin Reverb and it works.
Hello mr.Nick how could I incorporate a tubescreamer into this??? Thank you for this video Godbless ya
Master nik your blues fu technic is amazing, please allow me to be your student! 😂 i will watch you videos over and over until my fingers bleed 🩸 nice video 😊
Adding a resistor to the wah output around 10k to 22k improves the sweep with the wah up front
Great video! I enjoyed listening.
I just did this mod. I used an old credit card and wedged it thru the solder joint as soon as it became molten, that worked great. And I recommend using a magnifying glass, once you remove the black tape. The wire leads are small and they run across the end of the bar magnet where you push it out. You DON'T want to damage those leads. And if your pick up is wax potted, the bar magnet might be stuck to everything else it is touching, so be careful how you go about nudging it out. My bar magnet was stuck to the side spacers and would not come out unless they came out with it, then I broke it free from the spacers. Surprise...it all worked.
If it's not too much trouble, check if the sound returns to normal, if you turn the pup 180 degrees without disassembling it.
@@iridios6127 I already know that will not make it sound like it did before the mod. The change affected the direction of magnet polarity (in relation to the wiring) and is now, only going to sound the new way, until reversed again. Swaping the whole pick up end for end may well have some modest affect on the PU sound, but any change here would NOT be due to phase. This would be because the adjustable pole pieces are now towards the bridge and adjusting them UP or DOWN, would provide that "modest" tone difference....again, not related to phase.
The wah was perfected 1 year after it was created. There was the grey wah in 1966 and the Clyde McCoy in 1967 and it never got better.
Nice Nik!! I have 3 or 4 old ones, each is a bit different sounding!
Ain't push-pull better?
Probably, but that only works for after market pickups with 4 wires
@Headbutter-Lettuce90 I have humbuckers with one and it works just fine. On LP.
Good to know. The way I do it which also works is to use my univibe (MJM 60's vibe) on the Vibrato setting with the intensity turned to zero, with the pedal on. For some reason this works.
Hi there! I just landed a Leslie Model 16/Vibratone with an 8ohm JBL D110F in it, trying to figure out what Ohms to set my guitar amp at, and I needed some info from someone more knowledgable than I, seeing as I've never owned a Leslie or Rotary of any kind. Its got the crossover, so my guess is to set the amp at 4ohms, as the 8ohm amp speaker and the 8ohm JBL Leslie would likely be in parallel, correct? I'd really appreciate any advice you could give. Thank you!!!
Fuzz is great but it is a difficult pedal to live with. Get the Foxrox wah retrofit and install it. It works!
Great demonstration groovy and precise chops and licks and kicking sounds helped me to get to know the Octavio thanks
In other words, if you want to sound like SRV just buy a house lol
Great video, and great playing! Do you know if there’s any overlap between the picture wah and the script wah? I have a script wah that has tropical fish caps, Ducati resistors, and the halo inductor. Is that pretty much the same as what you would expect to be in the picture wah?
"I'm no master of the wah-wah." then proceeds to wah-wah masterfully!
ahhhhhh ok
Very solid, sensible advice. I also met SRV in London in the late 80s. Wish I had asked Stevie guitar questions!
Absolutely fantastic collection. Great video. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Really insightful Nik, I’ve got a lead on what seems to be foam green early ‘59 and a ‘65 refin… probably come to nothing but you never know!!🤞
Both have great qualities. Ive bought and sold so many “keepers”, i realize, you really just need one that inspires you
@@theriffwniksevigny5473 Word!
I always thought a C12P was a ceramic speaker, because Jensen tend to designate their ceramic speakers with a "C" prefix. I suppose they also designate alnico with a "P" prefix, so maybe they were alnico... but they certainly don't look it either.
Greenies front pickup is also rotated backwards.
Yeah that doesn't have to do anything with the tone though
🤯
Killer tone and lick! Thanks Man!
Thank you so much for this lesson, you should sell courses and classes!
Maybe one day!
Good stuff brother 👏 keep em coming!!
Sounding tasty as usual, I got my first Fender amp with bright switch recently, a 1967 Bassman head, which is black-panel with drip-edge (transition?). We saw your friend JD Simo here in Portland recently at a clinic he did. Seeing his telecaster up close I couldn't believe how low the strings are - almost touching the frets, yet he plays brilliant slide guitar - amazingly sensitive touch!
