I'm Caleb Mills and this is my guitar shop. I work here on my own, getting help where I can. Every guitar here has a story and a budget. One thing I've learned in about three years - you never know what could be wrong when it comes through the door.

The Worst Neck Angle Ive Ever Seen Guild D40 Neck Reset Part 2
Have you had any experience glueing up a snapped banjo neck at the nut ... it broke clean but is a 1" diameter super small. .... thanks
Looking forward to part 2, things are looking up Caleb!
The repair process was well executed and explained in detail. Thanks, Caleb.
Well done getting the neck off so easily...it just popped right off 🙏👏
Good work . Have you tried the foam cutters to heat the neck joint instead of steam ? Not sure if they are better or not but another repair guy I watch , (twoodfrd) highly recommends them.
Your commentary style is more relaxed than when you first began to make videos. Nice guitar, I think guitar tonal qualities improve with age. Looking forward to hearing you play it.
Good work. Jerry was a good teacher
Hello Caleb I enjoy your videos.
Have not watched you for a bit. Nice to see your Luther and video confidence improving. Becoming a real pro.
Have a good week end Caleb, thanks for the content.
You got a new subscriber. Good video
I'm not sure if you got anything from Patreon this month. There's something wacky with my account and I've yet to devote the time to solve it. It's saying that the funding isn't there. I have no idea why it's saying that. It's attached to a very specific debit card (or should be) that always has money in it and is automatically stocked up every month.
How’s the action on this guitar
Guitar sounds great! 😎👍
You’re a talented and very practical technician. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I've got an A-Style Mandolin that only has "New Yorker" as the brand name on the head stock. I haven't been able to find any company info on this mando. I wonder if it is a Gretsch, or if Gretsch, bought the company out after mine was built. It is a very inexpensive mando, but for what I paid for it, it was a good investment ... to see if I could actually play it and if I enjoyed doing so.
That top took a beating this episode! Everything else is great content!! Keep it up!
Mandolin intonation is super easy if you go top G string, bottom E. Get it close to perfect there, then work your way G to E, alternating toward the middle of the fretboard. Edit: let the strings settle sharp for a couple hours, then come back to intonation.
Outstanding. May God richly bless...
How are the deer antler saddles doing?
Nice sprucing up of the mandolin. It must have been a wall hanger.
Thanks for the content Caleb, have a great week end.
Very cool! I’m glad I found your channel.😊
Thanks for documenting all of this. Also for fitment of your dovetail try chalk instead of carbon paper.
I’m glad someone is picking up after Rosa String Works retired!
Nice review, thank you for sharing. I'm kind of digging the "Green Burst" color. Does a campfire guitar mean that if it is an emergency and you cant find wood, you can start a fire with the guitar? :)
It's great to see a young guy doing all this work. But i do have some hint's for you mate. I have been a luthier for more than 40 years, and know all about what it takes to do this kind of work. Please do your self a favor, mask of the fretboard when doing any fretwork, it will save you a ton of time cleaning after the job is done. But great video.
Its a taylor body copy of a g.a. with its cutaway modified a littl
His first unboxing
Nice job Caleb! You did a great review. I would add a check of the intonation. Also some closeups to see the fit and finish.
Esteban has a run for it's money, lol. Good job Caleb
I have that same preamp in a 20 year old Ibanez acoustic.
it does sound good. wow
man it's sooo good to see you remove string tension before tightening the truss! I preach that all the time and still get a lot of guitars with a broken truss rod! guitar does sound pretty sweet!
The ones that get me too Randy is when they start setting up a guitar without checking the truss rod first.
Caleb what’s going on with your guitar build? Have I missed something? Don’t leave us hanging 😂
Good Video 👍
They makes some really nice affordable stuff. Got a 12 string and a mini 6 string banjo.
I like a single pickup les paul jr. Great ax and sounds.
Some guitars certainly scream to be picked, strummed, hammered on and off with the same enthusiasm you expressed! and some maybe not so much. Nice of you to differentiate that particular ax. Great video, troubleshooting and repair.
If Jerry is still breathing, he should be responsible for this repair.I watched this build.Nice work, but if structural issues are popping up after a few years, (at major $$$), not a good sign.
Great job...I think it was best to save the original nut. Would like to see what was done to age the tuners. L9ve watching, learn a lot from you, you're my hero.
Did you not recrown the frets filed ,? How was th the intonation thought eye would just ask you thank you eye do enjoy your expert repairs @'
Might it have been better to hydrate and oil the fretboard prior to working on it? By that, I mean like spending a week or two doing so, ensuring hydration all the way to the core of the wood.
I'm wondering if you could inlay small butterfly keys into thefretboard to add extra stability into the fretboard? Great video.
The first time I restored one of those, I could not get it in tune. The strings seemed to be fighting the vellum and vice versa. I spoke to the banjo shop that sold me the replacement vellum and he said I was using the wrong strings (I was using regular Mandolin strings). He said I should use a set of very light strings, which he supplied, and he was right. It tuned up perfectly and easily with lighter strings.
Hey right on, I was just playing my mandolin banjo at a gig yesterday, and what a good timing to see this video. Mine is a gold tone MB 850+, wich required some initial set up work as there were issues with the neck when I got it but a good Winnipeg Lucier solved it in quick order. A fun instrument.
I used a magic eraser (Mr Clean) to bring the skin like new...
I have a question, and I don't mean it as criticism but as a question, you know more than I do, and you where there and I was watching. It looked to me like the tail piece or whatever you call the piece that goes inside had a bow in it, could that have been cut down, more level, and also solved the problem, yours was probably better, anyway. Just asking to learn.
I noticed that too. Once wood has arched like that, it's nearly impossible to bring it back straight, especially if it very old and dry, like this one was. Steam may or may not help it bend back to shape...I suspect this might have caused some of the neck angle issues. But Caleb's way was the easiest solution to the problem for sure.
Good work, far as that instrument goes, well to each his own. Worthless to me, but some folks like that kind of stuff.
I vote Manjo!
