    Hi Daniel, I'm planning to take my travel trailer and 250X up to Nordegg end of August, your video mentions random camping by the spill way could you provide more detail about access and best spots, are there pit toilets? Are there other camping locations with direct OHV trail access? Could also do with a GPS trail maps, thanks again for your help, hope you're having an awesome summer :)

    Lizzy looks like a great rider. Confidentally picking her lines and keeping up the momentum. I'm glad your channel popped up. Riding a WR250R and watching your How good at Enduro video. I figured you were in the foothills. Last time we were at Cadomin, we tried to go into the box canyon I think they call it. Though I was on a different bike for that. Cheers.

      @@danielleppington Hi Daniel, Yeah, idk Cadomin too well, and what I did know has been altered by the jeeps and sxs's. We used to ride right where the mine is now. The Province allowed the mine to have a haul road parallel the Mtn Park Road (now all stutter bumps & pot holes). Shame. Prior to that there was a big push to close the area completely to ohv's. Watch for Grizzlies. Mountain Park is a bit far for the small dualsport, so we trucked out there. Box canyon wasn't quite obtainable for us, as there is a short nasty hill we balked at. With the WR I would have happily tried. It is all tore up by sxs's, so whether it's still open, idk. Rocky the further in you get. I suspect it's closed when the Sheep are lambing. There is some pretty good day trip riding out of the Hinton area, towards the mountains. There is the well known Dunes, across from Brule, and a scenic pipeline nearer to the highway. Basically the whole area around the J/H Airport is is dual sportable and has multiple accesses. Ogre Canyon on the Brule side is a cool destination, and has a few side trips up and around Soloman Mtn. Riding the Snaring River backroad in Jasper Park is nice too (if it's open, as they were working on the pipeline). Maligne, Miette Hotsprings, Mt Edith Cavel, Pyramid lake are all paved. And you can do them all in one day, Especially, if you truck to Jasper. I see wilkiloc has some gps tracks in the Entrance, Brule and Mtn Park areas. Though the interface kinda bites. Cheers.

    what sprockets are on it? and did you much gear shifting I am interested on what gear you were in the majority of the time. Thanks Great video. I have this bike but havent done much dirt riding in like 30 years.I am in upper NY,CNY now and could not find many places to go off road. I had a Yamaha xt350 back when I lived in colorado and enjoyed the mountain riding. I was coming right from being on a street rider so a big learning curve. but the 350 could take me up any mountain I came across. the 250 does not have the low end but it seems like you were able to tractor along with no problems. Also the idea of a wet clutch is new to me. and the thought of slipping a clutch seems not a good idea. So did you have to do a lot of slipping the clutch. in the video? again Great video.

    • @danielleppington
      @danielleppington 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I run 13/47 for the gearing and it’s a good compromise. I do a fair amount of road as well and it seems to work ok as long i i don’t interstate much. In the words I’m mostly first and second, in the sand and open i get up into third, but like all smaller bikes you just need to be active on the clutch though I’m constantly amazed how hard it is to stall. As for the clutch, i would be amazed if you could kill it. My bike has 20000km of fairly hard riding and it still has about 80% left in the clutch. Good oils and change more often than the 10000km it calls for and you’ll be fine. The honest to goodness balance between performance and durability is amazing on the WR. I’m about 96% sure they are immortal.

    I just bought a 2020 bone stock wr250r and it is nice to hear that you have not made all the common engine mods on this bike in the video and it is still very capable.. But I do believe the 13/48 sprocket change is in my near future, I guess that will mean a longer new chain as well.

    • @danielleppington
      @danielleppington 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      13/48 makes it much better everywhere. It doesn’t mind the revs on the highway and it’s way better in the bush. Considering getting a programmer and opening the airbox so it can breathe better but honestly, everything has gotten so expensive. Great bike as is too.

    Great review on the WR. I agree on all points but must say out of all the upgrades, the Magura made the biggest difference, and it wasn't just the easy pull. It is simply the way it applies the clutch, very similar to my Husqvarna 350. I wouldn't go back to the choppy feeling of the cable, although it's obvious that the cable is much more reliable. Worth the pennies to me, but obviously whatever floats the boat. Side note, a Vortex made my 350 a beast vs the stock low end spit and stall. Made a world of difference riding Utah rocks.

    • @danielleppington
      @danielleppington 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I got a hyperpro emulsion shock on mine. Kind of wish I got the one with the hose instead, but it is better than stock. Still bottoms out kind of easy. If the fairings keep breaking off, the 4.7 IMS tank replaces them, but it does make it harder to sit at the front of the bike. So far I replaced the stator and chain tensioner on mine with over 11,000 miles. Seems to have some blow by, but still enough power.

    i have a wr250x. If i keep the 17 inch wheels and install 17 inch dirt tires, would the ride be similar to a WR250R with 21 and 18 inch wheels?

    • @danielleppington
      @danielleppington 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don’t think the rear would make a big difference one way or the other, more about tire availability for good dirt stuff. On the road the front 17 will make the bike seem more agile, the 21 tracks straighter and bridges bumps better but has more mass further out so it doesn’t turn in as well. All that being said, if you’re just into trying some gravel and not deep woods or super rocky terrain, I’m sure the 17 would be fine. Maybe try some tkc80s from continental or something like that. I’ve had good luck with those. If you want to dirt bike, I recommend getting a 21 front both for the better ride and stability as well as the smaller brake rotor. From experience, the x rotor is a little touchier off road because it’s 20mm larger. Final caveat, any bike can be off roaded if we try hard enough, I wouldn’t break the bank trying to make it perfect unless you plan on racing.

      @danielleppington 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Best bike for the race is always the one you bring with you. :). I love 250. I’m a big guy at about 230 but honestly I keep going back to them. Tried 450, love the 350 but they’re just so much less twitchy when you’re on bumpy ground and that makes a huge difference over 6hrs. You never really get past 3rd or 4th maybe twice so you don’t need the top extra grunt.

    Oh my goodness, that's bananas! My regular riding buddy is keen to have a go, 'hey they have an over 60s class, let's go do it' says he with numerous forever injuries collected over decades of riding, me with a body 5 years old than his 'yeah sure I'll crew for you!' Respect to you Sir.

      Oh you’ll sit the sideline on year 1 but it’s get under your skin and it will be unavoidable to suit up for year 2. :). Best of luck. The real heroes are the 60,70 and 80 class riders.

      @@danielleppington I believe it. The CRF250X I bought a few months ago is just about ready to roll, going to mount some studded tires and do some winter riding, if I can get enough miles in, my confidence level might be high enough to give it a try this year ... save the wait LOL. My first bike was a wr250r, I’ve always been a big fan of it and still am. Compared to a dirt bike they’re heavy and slow, but man are they fun to ride and pretty much bulletproof. I regret selling mine 😒

    Wich bike would better climb big uphills? Would the wrr be handicapped by its lack of power despite its weight? Thank you. I ride off-road only znd I'm hesitating between those two.

    • @danielleppington
      @danielleppington 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Drz obviously has more torque but it’s a heavier ride that carries it weight high too. Change to a 13/49 or 13/50 on the wr and you’ll never be short of power in 1st unless you are gold glass enduro. Drz does let you choose a gear though where the wr on long steep hills is more like a goat than a cheetah. Neither is bad for my money I like the lighter wr but either is a solid choice.

    You mean 100 kilometers 62,000 miles Anyway, I know one guy that put 48,000 miles on his with just valve adjustments timing chain. I was wondering what oil do you run ? I probably am overkill with Amsoil metric change it every thousand miles. Especially now since it’s $15 a quart but I don’t like to see dirty oil.

    • @danielleppington
      @danielleppington 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I like to run the amsoil metric too. I tried the dirt stuff but it wore out faster for clutch feel. Intervals I play by ear depending on dirt vs road but probably average about 3000km between. I would really like to sample the oil and see if I really need to that often. Maybe post results next year. -40f here atm so not a lot of riding.
