  • The long awaited, 2 year delayed return to the desert. Come along for a great and grueling race on my 2008 Honda CRF450x and watch its struggle as it tries to force me to the finish line.

    Cool video, thanks. Did this race back in, I think 1986 on a KDX 200 and did pretty well. After 30+ years of not riding I recently bought a new bike and I'm going to give it another shot.

      @@danielleppington I believe it. The CRF250X I bought a few months ago is just about ready to roll, going to mount some studded tires and do some winter riding, if I can get enough miles in, my confidence level might be high enough to give it a try this year ... save the wait LOL. Love your videos and commentary

      Thanks, checked out some of your videos for your EJ swap. I’m restoring a 72 super beetle with an EJ22. Could come in handy as a guide. How was the wiring? I pulled the whole loom from a 98 legacy but haven’t started cutting it back yet.

    • @greasemonkeygarage308
      @greasemonkeygarage308 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@danielleppington Unfortunately I lost most of the footage from the swap. The wiring isn't too bad if you take your time and test it between changes. I had some trouble getting it to fire after trimming the loom down. I bought a label maker and labeled the loom as easy reference when I was at that step. I had a 92, so it was obd1 and I believe its more simple than the obd2 loom. I think youll need to figure out how to mount the Crank position sensor - I dont believe mine had one. I've also owned a few aircooled Vws, It'll be cool to see yours done.

    Great vid; have been following your D-100 adventures since 2016 on the WR250. Your narration about transitioning to the CRF250X in 2017 & upgrades in 2018 convinced me to do the same later that year. Entered the 2019 50 miler (I’m a decade or two older than you😳) on my own CRF250X, had a blast & finished. Finished again this year, agree with dust, rocks & hill climb comments. See you transitioned to a CRF450X, would enjoy follow up footage with commentary about pros & cons. Will likely stay with my CRF250X, look forward to your 2023 vid recap. 😎

    • @danielleppington

      Awesome on the finish, anyone who gets through deserves full kudos. 250x is awesome. I’ve been playing with doing a comparison video. My son is on the 250 now so I could do a direct comparison back to back. Spoiler alert though, the 450 makes me grin more, but if I could only have 1 it would be the 250 hands down.

    Good video! I finished in 5:55. Got like 320. First year and I didn't think it was a really difficult race. The hard part was all the dust and jam ups. The second lap was much better. I was very surprised that only half of the people finished!
    I'd rather do 100 miles in the desert than my normal 75 mile woods races! Not too many trees to hit in the desert.

    • @danielleppington
      @danielleppington  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      True on the trees not being there, but from my woods racing, hitting the ground in the woods doesn’t just as much as one of those stupid sharp rocks in the kidneys.

      @danielleppington  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Best bike for the race is always the one you bring with you. :). I love 250. I’m a big guy at about 230 but honestly I keep going back to them. Tried 450, love the 350 but they’re just so much less twitchy when you’re on bumpy ground and that makes a huge difference over 6hrs. You never really get past 3rd or 4th maybe twice so you don’t need the top extra grunt.
