    Great video! I did the north part of the Saskatchewan tcat last summer and planning on doing the south this year and going east through grasslands on the return trip. Also loved the Stony rapids and dempster vids, two trips that are on my bucket list

      They’re both great options. We used the SK trip to prep for the Dempster. Strangely almost the same amount of km on gravel but pretty different. High recommend for both though.

    Hey Daniel, thanks for making the video. Hard to find good info on tcat info out west. I am thinking about doing a very similar route, any chance you saved your GPS route?

      Thanks for the nice feedback. 10k is a lot. We are still looking to do the Calgary to West Coast portion though at the moment i'm without a road bike again, so more hypothetical than not.

    That was great! I travel between bc and Manitoba and have been debating trying the TCAT route but looking at 5ge map imagined the Alberta, Sask stretches would be nothing but gravel grid the whole way. But that actually looked pretty nice. Still plenty of gravel, but not all just farm grid. How long did it take you total from Drumhellar to Saskatoon?

      Kermit its worth the trip. Especially fun through the badlands and cypress. We took 5 days but we could have done it much faster. We messed around quite a lot

    I have a couple downloads from gravel canada with the entire tcat and alberta forestry snd alberta overland that has a segment from Drum to Elkwater. i looked at the route on my gps and a map and the roads look, let’s say bigger and not so trail like. Do you know if that is the route you followed or did Tom enhance the route? if you had a track file that would be great.
    We are planning a Stony Rapids trip so that video is very helpful. Did you have any tire incidents?
    Enjoyed the dempster video also.
    thanks.

      We followed the gps route he provided pretty close but it would have been the 2014 edition. Pretty good without much on real roads, canal roads sometimes are pretty well maintained. There was a section in southern Alberta we ended up on a pasture and just literally followed the line but I got the feeling it wasn’t really supposed to be the trail.
      As for tires, all good all the time. Always run Mitas e-07 Dakar and I swear you could ride them on razors and it wouldn’t matter. Best travel tire I’ve ever used on everything from my klr, wr and GS. Always gotten more than 10k per tire.

      @@danielleppington Have you done the run up to NW Sask to Carswell Lodge, and if so any recommendations. We might consider that after Stony Rapids assuming we make Phase I. Else we might then slip into Alberta and up to Wood Buffalo Peace Point south of Fort Smith. Thanks in advance for any insight.

      @@dougiverson4297 I havent been up the Carswell side with a bike or car. Looks like it could be interesting though. It would be neat to get up close to the dunes on that side. Looks great from the air. Stony road is worth the trip for the seasonal section if nothing else. I worked up there for 4 years so its got a special place for me. Make sure to bring fishing equipment.

      @@danielleppington We made the trip last week to Stony. Saw two other adventure bikes the entire time. They were fishing their way out.
      The 200 km from Points North to Stony Rapids was the highlight. It was as if the last 50 km (to the turn to Stony Rapids) was doing everything to challenge us. There was some overland flooding and the gravel and sand were intimidating. The sand at the sides of the roads were very evident (don’t steer there, stay away, OMG i am headed there, …) and the gravel seemed to be just dumped on the road in a 2 inch layer. it was as if there was no base to it at all. the rocks rolled under the tire and wanted to redirect you constantly. amazing fun. Oh yeah, there were portions of sand on the road as well.
      The key fact we learned was no fuel in Stony Rapids on Sunday. It seemed fuel would be available in Black Lake after 11 am but not 100% on that. Albert, a local, sold us some fuel. The return trip to Points North would have been 400 km (200 + 200) so we might have just made it.
      Had a great lunch and conversation at km 147 on the 905.

      @@dougiverson4297 Yah, thats an adventure to be had. I loved my time up there. In fact I just love the North Period. Can't wait until I get a dual sport back. Just been racing enduro and hare scrambles for the last few years so i can ride with my kids. More adventure still awaits. I have a list of places still to go

    Can you drive an ATV on this trail?

    • @danielleppington
      @danielleppington  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats and interesting question. I honestly have no idea. I would think that portions of it that are just on the farmland could likely traversed because they are not "roads" persay. There are a few sections of maybe 30 ish KM that might fit this description

  • @zzaggachonsa

    Would SUVs able to get onto the trail as well? Thank you!

    • @danielleppington
      @danielleppington  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it was all double wide kind of farm road. Would definitely want a decent sub like a 4 runner or something and good tires with slash resistance though.
