TJMAC Vintage Cards & Nostalgia
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 22 พ.ย. 2020
Welcome to my channel!
I collect HOFs, superstars and players who were important to the game. My focus is graded baseball, football and hockey cards from the 1930s to 1989. I enjoy watching all kinds of sports cards related videos, even those that are not what I collect. I look for videos that are informative, show off cards and where the collector shows passion for what they have.
I enjoy the history of sports and love to share stories and information about the players I collect.

Absolutely fantastic video and showcase. Exceptional job Terry
Thanks David!
Great video! Lovingly displayed cards. I love old Sport magazines. i have a few myself and really enjoy looking through them and reading some great articles. Thanks so much for sharing!
Loved the audio clips! Well done Terry.
Thanks Mitchell!
This was fantastic, Terry! The '84 Dorsett is a favorite of mine. The cowboys and redskins has been a great rivalry. The cards connecting you to the players in the magazines connecting you to the games, perfectly said. I was one of those fans as a kid looking at the stats in the newspaper. That was one of my favorite things was grabbing the newspaper for my dad to check out how everybody did over the weekend. This definitely brought back some memories, and seeing your showcase with all those cards that I love was a real treat. Great players and great memories. Basically every card in your showcase is one that I feel a connection with. Hearing the quotes of the players was fantastic, this is one of my favorite videos of yours!
Another fantastic video Terry. Super SI that you picked up. So many great cards. The Music brought me back to the good old days of the NFL. I enjoyed hearing Howard Cosell. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Terry- you keep pushing the envelope and topping yourself with each subsequent video you create. Not that that has to always happen. I learn more from your videos about the players on your cards and some of the things you were doing then, than anywhere else. The addition of the music and play by play clips really enhances without distracting from the most important thing your stories memories and the cards. A lot of viewers might say that this era of cards isn’t worthy of being true vintage. But not I. You have an amazing collection of football cards of an era that matters to a lot of us out here the most: our early childhoods. They used to say in a now defunct toy store chain advertising: “the place to be a kid” Your channel is that place for me now. A place to be a kid again for a few minutes a week. Thanks for sharing Terry! CK
Terry, you know I loved this. 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 The sounds of the time with TV broadcast music and commentary are so much a part of the era. It really sets the cards in an atmosphere. I liked that you connect the cards and magazines-how the cards remind you of players and the magazines bring specific games and moments to mind. Just awesome. 😄
Interesting you picked up a SI where your Cowboys lost. I actually have done the same with my Huskers. I have a Penn State/Huskers one where my team lost. We could only get two TV stations when I was growing up. I was lucky that my Vikings were on often despite not living near MN. I loved the music and the commentary you tagged with each person you spotlighted.
Hi Drew, yes, I collect items even from the Cowboys defeats. I have the Bears 44-0 cover when they handed Dallas their worse loss up to that time. I also want to get the one with "The Catch." It was all part of my growing up and I appreciate those memories as well. It is part of being a fan. I was too young to remember the Super Bowl XII win and most of my Cowboys experiences until the Troy Aikman, Emmitt and Irvin days were losses in the playoffs before falling apart in 1988. I still only watch the local games. I don't have the NFL ticket. I appreciate the comment and you sharing that you buy magazines when your team lost too. Have a great weekend.
Glorious! Just loved every part of this well considered, well edited, and lovingly depicted video. As I have mentioned to you before, we share a similar time frame and nostalgia for exactly the same era of football and cards of that era. The 1979 Topps set is my favorite. You have one wonderful collection, Terry!
Hey Chuck! I am glad the video resonated with you. I put a lot of time to get the feel of nostalgia I was hoping for. I have so many good memories of that time even if the Cowboys didn't win a Super Bowl in the early 80s. I am a big fan of the 79 set. I probably have more cards from that year than any other in my football collection. Thanks, my friend. Have a good weekend.
What an awesome video Terry. A lot of these players were just a little bit before my time, but a few of them i remember towards tbe tail ends of tbeir careers. Besides, Marino, Elway, Montana, etc... i am fortunate enough to remember them in their prime. Nice sound and music to to go along with sharing the cards. Always enjoy and thanks for sharing with us. Hope you have been well.
Thanks Steve! It was fun putting this together. The NFL had a nice mix of run and pass in the early 80s. There were some great running backs in that era, which was my favorite position to watch. I am glad you enjoyed. As always, I appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment.
Awesome video thanks for sharing! Hope you have a great weekend 💪🏽
Gave a video like. Watched this video on my break today at work. Made my day. Great video, magazine, cards, and thoughts as always.
Thanks Brian, I am grateful you took the time to watch my video during your break. It was fun putting this video together. Take care
I was there with you! We have similar memories, although I was the only one in my family that cared about football. My dad took me to a Raiders game in the early 80’s Steve Largent with the Sea Chickens vs. Marcus Allen and the Raiders. What an awesome display and great work on the video. Happy holidays Terry
Hi Ken! I’m glad you were able to come along as we traveled back. So many great memories-and even the ones that didn’t feel so good at the time, I now look back on fondly as part of the journey. Seahawks vs. Raiders games were some great matchups back then. Marcus Allen was always fun to watch. I appreciate your comment, my friend. May you and your family have a joyous and blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year. Take care!
These are the years I have most of my football 🏈 cards in . Very nice showcase
You have a bunch of great years in your collection.
Your cards, your magazines (newly acquired or inherited), the sights and sounds of those times and the stories you share of recalled memories keep me watching. Great video Terry.
Thanks, Dan, for all your support! I am glad you enjoyed.
MARVELOUS video, Terry! This video takes me back to the good ol'days! A Coke and a SMILE! Love the music and the sound bites of a time gone by. We didn't care what the values of our trading cards were. It mattered more if our team got a W on Sunday. Thanks for sharing ❤
Thanks Dre! I am glad you enjoyed the look back. It was a lot of fun picking the cards, music and audio. Showing them all together was more powerful than words. I agree, we weren't thinking of card values back then.
Amazing video, cards and display Terry! That took me back to a time that was magical for me and sports. I remember that Dorsett 99 yard run lie it was yesterday! For my money he was the best Cowboy RB ever! Loved the hearing Cordell and the Monday night crew. Monday night football was huge back then and I watched it on our downstairs TV every week. Back then prior to the days of ESPN, Cordell halftime highlights were huge! Thanks for bringing back to those wonderful times my friend!
Thanks Steve! I had a lot of fun selecting the cards, music and highlights to use. It took me a little while but it was worth it. These types of videos show my connection to the cards beyond words. I will always have a soft spot for Tony Dorsett and those early 80s Cowboys teams. He was such a great athlete. I am glad you were able to share in the memories. Have a great weekend.
I remember so many of these things, thank you for bringing back these memories.
Thanks Tom! It was a lot of fun putting this together.
Hi Terry. Boy seeing those incredible cards and hearing those incredible clips, certainly took me back in time. Those Sundays were the best. Thanks for sharing my friend, talk soon pal.
Hey Stephen! I am glad you were able to go back in time with me. It was a lot of fun picking the cards, music and audio for this video. You have a great weekend, my friend.
That was awesome Terry! Lot of history in that video. I remember watching a lot of those events on TV
Thanks Scott! It was a lot of fun putting this video together.
Great video. NFL films would be proud. I can hear "The autumn wind is a Raider".
Thanks Robert! I will save “The Autumn Wind” for a future installment.
Hi Terry! That’s a great looking Sports Illustrated with Riggins. And good for you as a Cowboys fan to want that memory. I’m not that mature. Books bring me to the games like magazines do with you. I really should read more of my dad’s old magazines. Your football collection is nothing short of perfection. This was so enjoyable to watch. Great job with the video and the music. You did really great with it. So good that you made Bert Jones climb my list of Colts cards I need to add.
Thanks Andy! I enjoy the history of sports even if it includes the low points for my team. I remember the excitement of game day back then and just being able to see the Cowboys on TV. When they lost, it was awful. I was 9 years old when that game happened and I still have a pretty good memories of it. What I enjoy now is going back to a game like that and reading the story surrounding it. There was so much hype surrounding it like a heavyweight fight. As Bill Belichick says about Bert Jones at the end of the clip that I didn’t share, “He was special.” Wow! To hear that from him. I love the what if quality to him. He was viewed as the best for a short time by some who watched him. Now he is largely forgotten. My kind of guy to collect. A great card player to have in your collection as a football fan. Take care! Take care
Great video Terry, really beautiful displays. Thanks for sharing
Thanks Orlando!
Very nice Terry - always enjoy your channel 👍
Thanks Pastor Craig!
Another great video, Terry! A definite walk down memory lane for me with John Riggins and Bert Jones. Always loved watching them play.
Thanks Mike! Unfortunately as a Cowboys fan I saw Riggins at his best and I only saw Jones more towards the end of his career.
@@tjmacvintagecardsnostalgia648 Jones was good...real good. He took a lot of hits that he could have avoided, which basically shorted his career a ton. Fun while it lasted though.
@@mikethesportshistorycollec1947 Thatw awesome MikeS. Yeah, if Bill Belichick is praising you to that level, then you’re special. His 76 season is highly praised in the analytics community.
Hello Terry , great video ! I loved to watch your awesome cards collection and listen to the "footage" live commentaries. Great as a Cowboys fan you added "the Catch" footage...😉. I need this 1982 Topps Phil Simms card ! Happy sharing sports moments Terry and have a great day.
Hi Fabien, I am glad you enjoyed. I like finding different ways to share my collection. It was fun putting this video together. This format gives an opportunity to show a large number of my cards together. Take care
Hi Terry! Wow, this was great, my friend. You have an amazing collection that tells wonderful stories. By the way, I love your Marino rookie! Thanks for posting this, buddy!
Thanks Rob! I am glad you enjoyed. I've had that Marino rookie a long time. It is one of my favorite cards of his, not just because it is his rookie, but I like the design and aqua blue color.
AWESOME! Showcasing cards of those great players along with the music, you really captured the vibe of NFL football in the late 70s/80s here Terry! Hearing Howard Cosell always brings back great memories! Really cool to hear Belichick talk about Bert Jones too! Well done my friend!
Thanks Jim! I knew Bert Jones was a good quarterback but that interview with Belichick was my first exposure to him being an elite quarterback. If only he could have played in this era with modern medicine. I am glad you enjoyed. You have a great weekend!
Like #11! This really took me back, a number of these cards are in my collection as well. Loved the audio and music you put to this, I feel like I am sitting here back in the 70's and 80's. Really enjoyed the watch and appreciate the time travel. Thanks for sharing 👍👍until next time, have an awesome day Terry ✌out
Thanks Andy! I appreciate the like and nice comment. Sometimes the music and voices from the past convey more powerful emotions than just words alone. I am taken back in time when I see those cards. I am glad you felt that way too. I hope you have a great weekend.
Well done Terry. You invoked some real nostalgia there with your video.
Thanks Chris! My favorite memories in sports were during this time. Happy Holidays to you and your family!
Great looking Dan Marino rookie. It will always be my favorite
That is a great card and highly coveted all way back then. Marino came out firing!
That’s GOLD Terry, GOLD!! You have struck a new winning formula in these new-style productions. You had me close to tears with the combination of your cards & those audio snippets & theme music from the past. Even Mr. Blowhard Cosell sounded great in his introductory soliloquies every Monday night game. We may be witnessing the next rendition of Ed & Steve Sabol NFL film productions 😉
Hi Gary! Thank you so much. I’m glad you enjoy this style of video. As I mentioned in my comment to Gannon, I want to create more videos using photography because it allows me to showcase my displays. One of my favorite aspects of collecting is putting together displays that evoke the history and nostalgia I feel when I add cards to my collection. I want those who watch my videos to see what I see. Sometimes, the music and sounds from the past can be more powerful than words alone.
Hey Terry, nice! Love what you did here. You really brought to life a particular period in the game with your cards, the music, the announcing, and your commentary. Each and every video you make conveys the personal meaning your collection has and the many stories it has to tell.
Thanks, Gannon! As I mentioned earlier, I want to challenge myself to try different things now and then. Photographing my cards instead of recording them lets me showcase more of my displays and experiment with lighting. What I love most about my collection is the variety of years and sports it spans. Through my videos, I aim to share what I see in my card room, along with the music and narration, to give viewers a glimpse into my thoughts and the nostalgia I feel when I look at my cards. This approach can convey those emotions more powerfully than words alone.
Awesome as always my friend 🎉
Thank you!
Another cool video! Love that Sawchuk card! I have the Howe and a couple others from that year as well. It’s a nice design with the eye appeal. Before my time but again, I really love hockey’s history.
Thank you Travis! I am a big fan of the Sawchuk card too. For some reason, I like seeing players outside of the teams you normally associate them with. The Howe is a very nice card. I appreciate the comment.
Really enjoyed. Thanks for putting nostalgic music to it. Awesome
Thank you, Bruce for the comment. I am glad you enjoyed it.
Hey Terry! I'm view 400! Sorry I've been MIA for a while. It's been crazy busy for me. So it's great to finally settle down and catch up on some videos. I remember every Fall getting so excited for cards to come out. That was especially true when Score and Pro Set joined in... And a year later upper deck and others. I think you've got a nice goal for your hockey collection. I'm tempted to collect one nice hockey card per year of the new NHL team here in Utah... Not sure yet but it could be fun. I love that Bathgate card 👍 Thanks for sharing, I always learn something from your videos 😊
Hi Brian! Good to hear from you. Crazy busy is okay as long as you and the family are doing well. Hopefully, things slow down for you. I have been in the seasonal collecting mood lately. I have picked up a few baseball cards, but I have been much more into hockey and football lately. I have a feeling you are going to get into the Utah Hockey cards. I know what a big fan of your hometown teams you are. Hockey cards are so beautiful too. Take care, my friend.
@tjmacvintagecardsnostalgia648 thanks Terry! It's nice to be back and catching up on videos 😊. The seasonal stuff hits me usually too, in that I often get excited for Utah jazz games in October and jump into more of that but the team is just so bad I haven't had very much motivation to do so lol. But I'm always about the football year round 😁 You're right, hockey cards have great designs especially vintage, and upper deck has made some great cards too.
Great video, as usual. Good advice for everyone. F O C U S
Thanks so much Mike! I am glad you enjoyed it.
I also have that 69 Topps Lance Alworth what a great picture, he looks like the perfect all-American in the photo.
I agree. The vibrant green makes the photo stand out even more. Thanks for the comment .
Wow that sounds like me. Over the years I’ve changed my views and now have many cards I don’t want or enjoy but I still love it and having fun selling trading and buying what I really want . I buy nostalgic cards every now and then and have a small player pc assortment . Best of luck in your journey and just enjoy it all the way. Thanks
Thank you for watching and sharing some of your journey. For me, the nostalgic cards are the best ones. I enjoy looking at them and taking in the memories. Enjoy your collection! Take care
So many wise words spoken here, Terry! My biggest takeaway and the thing that resonated with my collecting history the most is about making mistakes. I’ve started lots of different projects that I’ve never finished. I impulsively bought cards just to buy them. I’ve gotten a little too inspired by cards other have shown that don’t really fit my collection. Even with all of that though I have no regrets. All of that has built my collection into what it is today and it wouldn’t be the same without the mistakes to get me here. I always enjoy these thought provoking subjects Terry!
Hi Joe! Yes, the mistakes are all part of the journey. Some people like being impulsive when it comes to collecting and not having their collection planned. That's great if it works for them, but I am happiest when I have a direction. Not a necessarily a narrow focus, but a plan on where I want my hobby budget to go. I also need to have a few different projects because I like to change gears when my mood changes. Like this time of year, I get more into hockey and football cards, then baseball. As it has been said by Rabbi Dave from the Rated Rabbi, "We are collecting ourselves." So, our collections do reflect in many ways who we are. Thanks for the great comment. I hope all is well. Have a great weekend.
What a great perspective, thoughts and advice. You nailed it as always. You really touched home about people such as myself getting back into the hobby fairly recently. I was seeing all this amazing stuff and just kept buying it but it really didn’t mean too much to me. Then I sort of figured out what I want and what represent me and that my city. I’m passionate about my black and gold and want my collection to be a curation of just that. And as a lover of the games I like collecting the rookies or one or so cards of the hall of famers. Great stuff as always and love these types of videos. I know I wish I saw this 4 or so years ago! Glad you had a great holiday. Talk soon my friend!
Hi Mike, it’s all part of the journey. TH-cam is a lot of fun but it’s easy to get influenced when people show all these cool cards and talk ad nauseam about condition. If you love the card when the camera is off then you did well. I enjoyed hearing about your Freiermuth purchase. As a family man, collecting has a little different meaning. For me, the cards I’ve had for most of my adult life mean a lot more than condition and value. They have been with me when I started my family and career. They are part of the story of my life, and my kids may appreciate some of them when they are older and look back. I feel bad for those who see cards for mainly condition and dollars signs. Where your heart is your treasure lies. Take care, my friend.
Terry, some powerful and sage advice in your video, no doubt based on your 26 years of personal collecting experience! Thank you! Oh, and also, what stunning cards and magazines! Happy Holidays, my collecting brother! 🎄❄🎄❄🎄
Thank you Adam! I am glad you enjoyed the video. Happy Holidays to you, your wife and the rest of the family. Take care!
Its easier to find the 1970 Topps in mint condition than the 71s. The 71s always show white sticking out from the corners because of the black borders . Nice video ❤
Thanks! You're not kidding about the 71s. It is a great set but so condition sensitive. Have a great rest of the week.
Thank you TJ. Of the people I follow in the hobby you are the wise ‘young’ Sage. 🙏 Happy Holidays to you and your family.
Thanks Todd for the compliment! The same to you and your family!
The card philosopher! I love cards with a personal story. I also love card runs of non-HOF players but have a meaning or connection to the collector. Thx for sharing.
Haha. Thanks Dave! I agree with you on all accounts. Non-HOFers make a collection a little more interesting.
@ agreed.
Hey Terry! Another great video. To thine own self be true! I think if a collector is in touch with him or herself, each one should be able to verbalize, more or less how they collect. You know, I feel like I started my collection "today". After having given the lion's share of my collection away about 15 years ago, I pretty much started at ground zero back in 2018, with the very important distinction that I kept most of the really expensive cards I had from when I had collected earlier. But I approach collecting the same way I did back in the day, which is just to buy what moves me. And that means going down the occasional rabbit hole or buying something completely new that doesn't fit into a theme. I have a lot of different projects going on at the same time also. But I don't press to complete them. When I feel like going back to them, I do. If I don't, then that's as far as I was meant to take it. I hear a lot about focus in the TH-cam community. And I do think it's necessary, but I do think it can be taken too far. I'm not talking about you, but with some people, the way they discuss it, you might think they're studying for the bar exam. I kind of compare my approach to collecting to Dan Connor from the Roseanne show, working on his boat out in his garage. He may never complete it, but the important thing is he has access to that garage and can...dream. Now, to slightly contradict myself: there are some cards that I do want to get, and I will have to discipline myself (focus) and lay off the small purchases in order to obtain them. But I'm having so much fun getting those inexpensive cards. This makes it difficult to stop those purchases, as does also the fact that I value those small purchases just as much as the big ones. Anyway, that is something that I will address eventually. I agree with you 100% about some of the potential pitfalls or traps that new collectors have to be wary of if they are just starting out (or even if they're not) and start comparing their collections to others they may see on the net, or more specifically, TH-cam. For me, the best collections aren't the biggest and/or the most varied - or the most financially valuable. My favorites, even though they may not be what I might collect, are the ones that truly mean something to the collector. Another thing is, at this point, unless you really have the money, who needs a Babe Ruth? To me, that ship sailed long ago. I can look at his cards online or at shows, and there are plenty of books as well as films that one can see on TH-cam. The same thing with Mickey Mantle's 1952 Topps. I don't know if it's still true, but the last I heard, Mantle's surviving sons don't have the '52 Topps. If I got one, I'd like to give it to them and then we could all go out for dinner. As usual, I loved the cards and magazines you shared. That Tommy McDonald cover is great too. He is one of the players I have learned about through you.
Hi Gannon! I totally agree with what you said about being overly focused sometimes taking the joy out of collecting, just as being too scattered can have the same effect. I’ve definitely had moments where I got too focused and it started feeling more like a job than a hobby. Like you, I enjoy having a few different projects going on at once, with cards from different sports, eras, and price ranges. I am still planning on building the Diamond Stars set, but haven’t bought any this year-and that’s okay. There’s no rush. As you know, right now, I’m diving into 50s and 60s hockey, and while I may never stop collecting them, I do have certain goals I want to reach. I think setting goals is important to me as a collector because I love the sense of accomplishment, but I make sure to enjoy the journey along the way. I really admire how you balance focus with flexibility. You pick up a lot of fun and meaningful cards, and I think that’s what makes your collection so interesting. I love seeing the unique groupings you put together when you send me those emails. And the Dan Connor analogy was great. Well done! I’m glad you managed to hold onto some of your valuable cards! I can relate to the struggle of buying more expensive pieces. I tend to gravitate toward cards in the $10 to $75 range, and while I set aside some of my budget for bigger purchases, I often find I prefer the fun of getting a few smaller cards that bring me just as much joy. I couldn’t agree more on what makes the best collection. I don’t follow many channels that just show high-dollar cards unless there’s a meaningful story behind them. I don't live in that world and have no intention to. It’s not that I’m trying to be unimpressed-it’s just that anyone can spend money on a collection, but the real challenge is putting together something meaningful. When a collector can articulate why they chose what they did, it adds so much more depth. Even if the collection doesn’t align with what we collect, the passion behind it is what draws you in. I’m glad you liked the Tommy McDonald magazine! I couldn’t resist picking it up-being a fan of both him and the Cowboys made it a must-have for me. Thanks, as always for sharing your thoughts.
Thanks for sharing your sentiments, Terry. I kinda wish you WOULD start over again so we can watch along. 😂
Thanks Eric. lol! I am glad I don’t have to now. It was a more affordable then.
Hi Terry: A happy belated Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. I hope the weather is kind to you as I can see a big storm hit your area this weekend. Loved the topic of this video. My favorite thing about your videos is that you are just showing and sharing your collection. You’re not here to be an influencer, you just want to share your collection and experiences as a card collector. There are too many on here now that have just veered away from showing their collections and now just trying to tell people what to buy. You won’t get me that way! Focus is important and you’ve definitely shown us this through your videos. I don’t think there is anything wrong with buying 15 years worth of baseball sets. It’s funny that we’re not concerned about the price, but the space or what a pain selling and shipping them are. When I first started watching you I loved the ideas of the key cards for each set. I told a friend your thinking a few years ago and he asked, well what are the 30 key cards? I said that’s for you (the collector) to decide. Anyone can do it, but people just tend to complain to you about your 30 picks as opposed to creating their own key cards. Interesting how today you wouldn’t buy the complete Frank Robinson run today but again just the 3-4 key cards. I wont say collecting is harder now its just a lot more expensive. Like you, there are things I did 10-15 years ago I won’t do now. Time, finances and resources have to go in another direction these days. You can still collect but just do it at a different level. I barely got to comment about your beautiful cards because I just started typing away as you started speaking. Haha. I like the uniforms that Bob Lilly and Greg Pruitt wore in their era’s plus they are just very nice cards. Love the Sawchuk card btw. Loved the video, Terry. Thank you for sharing!
Hi Rick! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Yes, every video I create will feature some cards. I'm not a fan of videos where people just talk without showing cards. As we've discussed, I'm moving away from content focused on areas of collecting that don't interest me. With a few exceptions, I find videos that dwell on card condition take away some of the enjoyment for me. I don't want to view my cards that way. As I mentioned in the video, I want my collection to reflect who I am. I see that in your collection too-you buy cards that represent you as a collector, and there's a real authenticity in that. The 30 key card project was my comfort zone. It gave me a goal while allowing flexibility in choosing the cards I want. For hockey and football, I initially did 18 key card displays, but I've since increased the number for football after completing the 18. Thanks for the compliment on my cards and for sharing your thoughts. Enjoy the rest of your week!
