    Terry,
    Always love hearing you talk about your cards. I had to stop what I was doing to look at my phone on this one and see these stunning cards. I also walk every day with my wife, I look forward to each morning , we walk right after our cup of coffee. Like you I am thinking of cards and how I can show each one together with the others ha ha. It truly does bring the hobby to life more than when I collected alone. I always love hearing you talk cards and never miss an episode. Keep sharing your mind with us and your amazing collection. Have a wonderful day my friend and Double shaka

      My pleasure Todd! One of the joys of collect is not only acquiring the card but the knowledge that comes along with it. Being I don't buy many cards each month, I can get invested in the stories of the players I do collect. That is where much of the joy is for me. Thanks for going back and watching my videos and commenting.

      Thanks Dan! I enjoy taking my viewers through my thought process on purchasing the card and why it matters to me. The Leaf Football cards are taking me into the world of late 40s football, which I want to learn more about. Bob Elliot was one of the top 20 or so players of his era, and I want him reflected in my collection. It was also the perfect 1st 48-49 Bowman baseball card to add. I wanted a player that was well regarded who also happened to connect to a Braves team my father-in-law remembers growing up.

      @@tjmacvintagecardsnostalgia648 I agree! I have several examples of 1948-49 Leaf baseball cards. My favorite is the Joe DiMaggio! A complete set, however, is outside the boundaries of practicality. Hi Brian, thanks for the like and taking a moment to share how you spend your walks. Pihos definitely left on top of his game. Football was a lot different then. A lot of these guys were making more money outside the game, and they often left for more stable jobs. Elliot was a good one. It amazes me the difference in prices between a HOF player and a guy that was a star of his day. He was as good as some guys that are in the HOF, but because he doesn't have that designation his prices are far lower.

      Hi Clint! It is tough to make the time to walk every day, but it is good you keep track of your steps. I don't think to do that. The players back during Pihos' time were relatable. I find them fascinating. They served their country, were patriotic and had the same types of struggles as the rest of society. Especially, football players who had second jobs during the football season. Most were making less than baseball players. Guys would go to practice and then head to work.
      I agree it is a great community. It makes collecting that much more fun. Good luck with your focus and collecting goals.

    This video was just the message I needed this Friday night, Terry. Hearing about your routine cool evening upper new york walks with the family dog helped me exponentially on a stressful work night in the LA Harbor. Rest assured your efforts and cool, poised and extraordinary shared soothed the savage beast that is the working stiff I am and got my mind centered back on safety and appreciations to be working and happily looking forward.
    Most high and heartfelt congratulations on your Bob Elliot. Hornsby's recommendation of the man was gritty and real and direct so we can ascertain it was of the utmost truth.
    I respect so much how you have zeroed in on just what you want in your collection.
    I kid myself and try something I consider meditation. To remove all though up to and including any kind of notion of self. But I will darned if visions of cards don't intrude on the desired nirvana. But ya know, intuition tells me those silence breaking visions of rectangular cardboard mastery might just be the right cards. Why would silly fad cards block out the chance of possibly attaining true inner enlightenment?? Haha
    It's tough to know where I will be as a collector in ten years but I'm confident where yourself will be and if you are still up to having us along for the ride, we will remain a captive audience. I've had buddies and pals growing up sharing their cards that didn't hit home like these earnest and honest glimpses into a private collection have.
    Will most definitely take a look at the video shared in the link below. Have a great first weekend of Spring and please give your dog a warm pat on the head from this community member. Talk to you next time.

      Hi Avian, I am so glad to hear that this video resonated with you. As blessed as we are to have a job, the stresses of the workplace can still get to us. You're right that we have to keep moving forward.
      My knowledge of the 40s in baseball and football is pretty weak compared to the 50s and thereafter. I did not know much about the career of Bob Elliot beyond him winning the 1947 MVP and playing third place for the Boston Braves. It turns out he had quite a career and was probably the best third baseman of the 1940s. It was an interesting decade given the impact of the war on every part of our society including sports. Elliot put together some impressive seasons throughout the decade and into the 1950s. So, he is a nice addition to my collection.
      Yes, the vision of certain cards racing through your mind is a good clue in helping you shape the collection you desire. There is only so much money to spend, so why not use it to acquire the cards you truly enjoy. There is nothing wrong with pondering on the direction you want to go.
      I hope to be in it for the long haul, God willing. The hobby has brought me joy, focus and solace. TH-cam has given me a forum to share my collection and thoughts each week. I am grateful for both.
      I did give my dog a pat for you. Thanks for always taking the time.
      Take care,
      Terry

      Hi Steve! I was just responding to Dan Bernier's comment that the Bob Elliot card was the perfect first Leaf card to add. I would've loved to of acquired the Vern Stephens, but it is a short print costing much more than I want to spend. The Elliot though was right within my budget. He was a top 20 player of the 1940s and I would argue the best third baseman of the decade. To have five 100 RBI season in your career is pretty impressive. I just love the look of that card. I hope to add a few more 48-49 Leaf Baseball cards to my collection, but I plan to more aggressively pursue the 48 and 49 Leaf Football. I want to learn more about this era of football, and it will be find to acquire the cards and some magazines from the time to go along with them.
      I love that 52 Bowman Vern Stephens. It is my favorite card of his.

    Hi Terry! Great video. I also go for daily walks. And usually walk during my lunch hour. It really helps me think things through. I liked how you mentioned the cards that you pass on. That’s been going through my head a lot lately.
    The Bob Elliot was a great choice for your first 48/49 Leaf. Players like him is what I find so interesting when collecting. The big names and Hall of Famers are great to have but it’s guys like Elliot that give substance to collections.
    When you lined the Pihos, Waterfield, and Walker up I actually said out loud “oh my gosh”. Just because they looked so great together. I’ve been looking at those Leafs for football and will probably pursue some after I finish off some other projects. Seeing this video makes me want to start right away.
    The John Green is such a great image and the back made me laugh. The writer must have been a huge Eagles fan with a point to prove. If I was 20 years old working for Bowman I may have slid that language into every Colts cards, haha.
    Have a great weekend, Terry! I hope your son’s bracket is still looking strong. Or as strong as it can thus far.

      Hi Andy! I am glad to hear you go for daily walks as well. It helps me on so many levels. I am glad to hear it does for you too.
      I could not agree more on a player like Elliot adding substance and depth to a collection. The HOFers are a lot of fun to collect too, but the game is so much more than them. As I become more of a student of the sports I enjoy, I have a desire to connect with very good and influential players through their cards. I could not imagine my collection without guys like Colavito, Boyer, Newcombe, Garvey, Pierce and so many others. I am not out to impress with my collection, I am building something that has meaning to me and brings joy.
      You will not regret adding Leaf cards when the time is right. Our friend Chris from Stories in Cardboard tells me the Leaf cards can be addicting and he is right. When you have one in your hand, you want more. However, I just keep telling myself be patient and appreciate the ones I got. I will continue to chip away over time.
      I am eager to know what projects you're working on. I hope you share them in a video if you haven't already. Even if it is just telling us what you're up to. I love to hear what thoughtful collectors are doing.
      Yeah, I am not sure what was behind John Green being the best end in football. I should've mentioned Bowman was a Philadelphia company which may of had something to do with it. That's funny you would have done that with the Colts cards.
      My son's bracket is hanging on. Haha.
      Take care!

    Really like that Bob Elliott. I have done some research on him and sounds like a very good player most of the YT community does not talk about. Love the look of that card. Always enjoy seeing the football cards as well. Thanks for sharing with us Terry.

    Always inspiring. Love the art on those three new pickups. I love the John Green the reach up and the eagle logo above almost like it’s dropping the ball off into his hands. Very interesting stats on bob Elliot. You know you have some talent if you’re being compared to Pie Traynor. Great stuff as always Terry!

      Hi Mike! I am glad you enjoyed. You're right about the Eagle looking like it is dropping the ball into Green's hand. Bob Elliot was one of the 20 best players of the decade and I would argue the best third baseman of the 40s. A perfect first Leaf baseball card to add to my collection. Yes, being compared to Pie Traynor is impressive. So, is the praise he received from Rogers Hornsby.

    I was wondering Terry when you were going to expand your 48/49 Leaf series cards but I need not wonder anymore. Nice additions to the collection. I’ve often thought of adding such cards but the competition is intense for them and naturally, the prices reflect that competition. Nice additions, pal. Similarly, my birth year 51 Bowman football cards are also widely popular & I got priced out on a few auctions last night because as you say, I know myself (& my fixed budget). 😆

      @tjmacvintagecardsnostalgia648  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Gary! The Leaf Baseball are especially pricey, but you can get fair prices on some of the stars and lower tier HOFers if your patient. The short prints and bigger HOFers are very expensive. I don't plan to get too many but I like the cards. You can get good prices on the football. Especially, since the NFL players have cards in both 48 and 49. I am happy with getting one card from either set since they for the most part look the same. We have in common knowing ourselves. Haha. Budgets are important.

    Hi Terry:
    I've always meant to ask you about your walks as I know you think of program ideas or sometimes listen to TH-cam. I keep telling myself to walk more. How long are your walks and do you walk everyday? What time of the day do you enjoy walking the most?
    I have NEVER heard of Bob Elliot before. Most likely cause of the teams he played for. I didn't even know he was the 1947 MVP! Amazing I've never heard if him. That's a great 1948/49 Leaf card. I am really liking that set even though I only own two.
    Your 1951 Bowman Spahn. and Sain cards are brilliant. Love the pitching poses and all three cards go Weill with your wife's Uncle's Boston Braves card.
    I gotta get that Bob Waterfield card! John Green was also a salesman during the offseason. That's what they did back then. Great stuff today, Terry!

      @tjmacvintagecardsnostalgia648  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Rick, I walk everyday. I do about a half mile with the dog two to three times a day and then 2.5 to 3 miles on my own. So about 3.5 to 4.5 miles a day. If I go in the office, I will cut my evening walk a little shorter. I like to walk after work around 4 or 4:30.
      I didn’t know a lot about Elliot either up until a few months ago. He was quite a player. Those are the guys that I have been enjoying collecting for baseball as of late.
      Those are my favorite Spahn and Sain cards.
      Yeah, Waterfield would look good in your collection.

    I love walks too. Great self-care. And when I can, hikes are one of my favorite things to do. I love that you put thought into the cards you want and how they connect to the evolving collection. I have such a long list of cards I want lol. I really think I ought to focus more on individual cards, because they'll mean more to me. But man, I love to rip some packs and see what's inside 😁. I'm trying to balance that, but I wouldn't be surprised if one of these days I figure more on the individual cards I want and put the breaks on print money into the pack ripping. I guess time will tell. Great insight in this video Terry. I'm only half way through so I may comment again, but these are some great thoughts 👍

      Hi Brian! I am glad to hear you're a fellow walker. I am still too cool to be a mall walker, but I imagine I will make the transition someday. Haha Nothing wrong with having plenty cards on your list, but it is a good idea to figure out how you want to approach acquiring some of them. Nothing wrong with ripping back either. The rush it gives you when you get some ink, or a serial numbered card seems pretty exciting. I never went that route, but I get it. Thanks so much, my friend for the kind words.

    Terry, I think it can take a great deal of discipline to understand who you are as a collector or the direction to take. It can be easy to fall off your path and begin collecting things that don't really fit into your collection. You do a great job of staying in your lane. The more I think of it, I wonder if most people either have not found their path or know who they are as a collector. Just thinking out loud here. Did NFL teams where white jerseys during home games back the 50s? As always, you display great cards and provide the perfect narrative.

    • @tjmacvintagecardsnostalgia648
      @tjmacvintagecardsnostalgia648  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Drew! Well stated about discipline and staying in your lane. I agree with you that some struggle with focus and knowing their path. Not everyone has to collect the same way, but I think if you accumulate cards and rarely look at them, then why are you adding them to begin with. Yes, I believe NFL teams wore their white jerseys for home games in that era. I am not sure if there were any exceptions.
      Thanks as always, my friend. Have a great rest of the weekend.

    I'm liking that Joe Morgan 1981, Jean Belivue ,1976 Jim Palmer , is it 1980/1981 Marcel Dionne ,
    I like the note book way more over the phone that ruined the world ,
    if that's the same set that has Joe DiMaggio in it that's a nice card a 4 for 1949!!! was Bob Elliot a common I don't see him in the Vintage Beckett under leaf 1949?
    Pete Phios , nice Doak Walker and Bob Waterfield , nice John Green ,
    wow a program for 10 cents St.Louis Cards vs Boston Braves very cool
    Am I missing something but it seems like 58.00 for a 1949 card in a 4 isn't very expensive? granted it's Bob Eliot and not Luke Appling, , Lou Brodeou, George Kell and Larry Dolby but does it seem that 58.00 isn't a lot for a 4?
    in Beckett there's the guide for leaf theres no 48 so it's 1949?
    is tha Phios 16 A or 16 B? in beckett theres 2 letters for him under 16?
    Did the home teams wear white back then? or were they playing somebody who wore there dark on the road ?
    did anybody from my time win that award the receving triple crown? if only one time that's fine

    19 Dwight Clark
    any of these recivers?

    • @tjmacvintagecardsnostalgia648
      @tjmacvintagecardsnostalgia648  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Mark, I apologize for the late reply. The week got away from me. The 48-49 Leaf is the same as the one with the Dimaggio. Elliott is likely a common in the price kids and is priced like a minor star on eBay. He can be had pretty cheap compared some of the other bigger stars, but he was a very good player.
      I call it 48-49 Leaf. The copyright on some of the cards is 1948, but they likely issued in 1949.
      There is a 16Y and 16B for the Pihos. I have the 16Y with the yellow letters. The rarer one is the 16B with the blue letters. I guess the 16Y is 16A in Beckett. I believe the home team almost always wore white back then.
      Only Jerry Rice won it from your list. Sterling Sharpe did too from the same era. In recent years Steve Smith and Cooper Kupp won it.
      Thanks as always for the comment.
