Can I please get sizes for the two seals for separating PTO and gearbox. The supplier we asked can't help
Mujhe fi chahiye
I commented on one of your other videos asking what this was, now that I know, I've just looked online at the price of one. There's one for sale in Southampton UK for 1250 GBP (2400 AUD).😮😮
Loving your videos! Whats going on at the PTO? Is it an external pump with a pet extension?
Please tell me on my Fordson Super Major...why it can't hold in rise position? There is no neutral position ...It is either up or down.
Is the seal the wrong way on
Nice video, thanks for the information. I removed the fuel pump on my Fordson Major for cleaning, and when i reattached it i don't know if i got it on quiet right. Would it be possible to mount it wrong with the shaft that goes inside the tractor? The tractor is running and i can drive around with no problems and i am able to manually pump to bleed the system out of air.
Seems to run sweet, that pump taken off the pulley drive, is that a home made adapted thing do you made with the blade ?
Would like you look at a, short video of the FPMajor looking at the rear with the 7 bolt cover removed. We are lacking pressure and I'm suspecting pump or other pipe o rings under the top cover. It's why I searched out your video in case the pump needs to come out. Is there a, way for me to send you this video of oil at back of hyd cylinder. Seems most comes out while lowering the 3 point linkage. Thanks
So my fordsons gearbox oil seems to be going into rear axle which is the opposite to what you said would happen is this still going to be that pto seal?
Correct, will be the PTO seal.
Thank you, this means that there is no force pushing the arms down? Only force when lifting them up? I bought a Fordson Major 1956 some month ago and have started to look over it and se what need to be fixed.
Correct, no down pressure, just weight and gravity.
I have a mates Fordson Power Major here now with a similar problem but arms stay up fine. We test lifted an alloy V6 engine and tgat, was, OK but he says it won't lift like it used to and fails to lift bigger weights. I'll try reseating the non return valve but I'd have thought the arms would drop too but they stay up better than most tractors I've seen including my own Massey 35....any clues?
Possibly the oil pump not pushing the pressure required, its a bit of work but maybe check the filter. I have a video of that as well.
Hi, Thanks for the Video, I used to drive one of these on the farm where I grew up. There is one very important thing you did not mention, especially when hand cranking, You must set the spark retard - advance lever to the retard position or you might cop a backfire. I used to shut to the spark off, set half throttle and full choke, two full turns of the crank, set spark to on, retarded, set choke half way and pull up on the crank, worked most of the time.
My first family tractor was a Fordson super major model 1962 I am from Iraq 🇮🇶
Hello sri I am from India I also have this tractor I want something like this
Your video is wonderful and very informative. I love watching your video. But you can not get organic view and subscriber. I have some suggestion for you.
Best finish grader ever made 12h I've been running one for over 20 years
Could a bad diaphragm make my super major smoke excessively?
Thank you- my super major is smoking a lot- it has sat for two years. Going to clean out the air filter and hopefully that will take care of it
An absolute BEAST of a saw! I have an 051, looking to get an 056. Thanks for the vid!
Had a young chap back in the mid 50s swing one of those and it kicked back and knock three front teeth out. He was of short stature, we called him Wee Geogie Wood and the handle hit him fair and square.
Another good video, u didn’t really talk about the seal between the gearbox and the rear axel, which stop the gearbox oil migrating into the rear Axel area
Hi, when you were putting it back together, you said the second plate had to be finger tight, and then i think you said just for demonstration purposes? Sould it still be finger tight or if not how tight should it be? Not trying to corner you or anything but i thoght it would be best if i asked before i do mine Cheers from wales.
Nice one 👍🏼
Nice one, that’s my next job, but, does the PTO shaft seal as it passes through the gearbox to the diff, as I drained the diff and loads of oil (and sludge) came out and the gearbox oil level was low, I topped the gearbox up with white spirit and that is draining into the diff ( I’m gonna change the gearbox oil anyway after) I’ve got to do the front PTO seals too, it’s that partition between GB & Diff I’m worried about as the GB is higher that the diff, so will the GB oil keep draining into the diff even when diff oil is back in ??
My next video will be this very issue! The PTO gear housing at the bottom of the gearbox has 2 chambers separated by a bearing/seal. The splined shaft goes through this seal and then the PTO shaft slips over the spline after poking through the diff housing.
Ah ok, excellent, I will look out for it, thanks
Yeh enjoy the vids 👍🏼
Great job. Three E27N tractors lined up. The real base model didn't have PTO or turning brakes or belt pulley or any electrical equipment. Interestingly I once had a late P6 that had a 3PL the same as an E1A with the pump in the back end run off the PTO shaft. It's great seeing you point out the features with the tractors lined up
Thats correct, not many purely base tractors left out there as most have been upgraded by owners. Interesting conversion with the E1A 3PL.
@@fixingfordsonsaustralia6632 It was interesting. I wonder if it was fitted later or delivered with it ? We can never know and I sold it years ago.
Just wondering do you work for ACT parks and conservation
Many years ago.
Brilliant video very interesting to see the comparison and how the three point is mounted on the e27 fordson
nice video, but why dont you clean the parts before desmantling !!??
Saves me having to clean them again when I pull them apart and oil leaks everywhere. Most times, after I make a video I pull it apart and clean it before reassembly.
Thanks for sharing your repair experiences, I have a question to change the cam followers, do I need to rotate the engine block so that they do not prevent me from removing the camshaft? Or do you know any other way to hold them up? thank you
Thanks for putting these videos up. Very helpful.
Fordson Major man please help me. I'm in desperate need for help my fordson new major 1956 with raised pto just quite working with hydraulic lift at 3 point... do you have a email or way we could easily communicate??
If the PTO and 3PL are not working, it is going to be an issue with your PTO shaft, as the hydraulic pump is run via the PTO shaft. I would start by checking your PTO engagement lever etc. Unfortunately you will have to drain all the oil in gearbox and rear housing if you need to take it apart.
I have raised pto and it just quit turning and no hydraulics either any idea of the cause?
Hi, This looks exactly the same as my 1957 Fordson Major valve for the front dozer blade. My blade is no longer working as it will not raise anymore.... bugger. I removed the valve and checked the orings and blew thru with compressed air all of the holes back to the gearbox/pump. When I removed the valve a small thin disc the size of a 5c piece dropped out. Do you have any idea where it dropped out from as nothing is obvious. It dropped out and landed on the gearbox on the rh side of the valve. I refitted the valve without this disc and now it leaks thru the control handle. It must go somewhere... Any ideas? Col Bendemeer NSW.
I have a 1956 Fordson Major with a raised pto. I was pulling a blade today and went to lift it ....nothing went to engage pto and nothing.. i had just replaced all the gaskets and o rings for piston. Cuz arms were settling. Any idea on where i should start?
Let me add I been using it for several weeks with no problems after first repair.
Although a Fordson tractor was old it was strong 💪
Hi, where did you get this oil bath from?
You can get reproduction oil baths from reputable tractor suppliers, or there are some available on Ebay.
Where can i find that primary air filter as a new part i need one!
You can get reproduction ones from the bigger tractor parts suppliers, there were some available on Ebay for a while.
Hi, great video! We’re having trouble replacing the front PTO, we think we have the wrong seal and that we may need a special tool? Could you do a video on this?
Does your tractor have a front PTO, or are you referring to the crank start/pully. Some fordsons do have a hydralic pump mounted to the front crank. I unfortunately do not have one of them.
Do the hydraulic pump work's only with live pto and hydraulics can lift
Thats correct, the PTO has to be engaged for the hydralic pump to spin allowing the 3pl to work. A raised PTO accessory allows you to engage the PTO to operate the 3pl without the shaft spinning.
@@fixingfordsonsaustralia6632 i have the same tractor and the hydraulics don't work .I connect the pto they struggle to lift, i saw that i can't turn the pto with my hands while is not connected ofcurse, maybe the gear of the pump is stuck, can you give me some advice
Hello sir, thanks for your videos, been very helpful lately, keep it up :) Question, do you happen to know how many newton meters the rocker arm axle should be secured with? thanks in advance for your response Sincerely, Arjan
doing this now on our 1962 super major
Best of luck, may all your bolts be free and oil be metal free!
hello. I am Alejandro from Spain. Thank you very much for showing how to change the filter. It was very helpful to me. I have the same system. and the 3 point lift does not work. When I took out the filter you show here it was clogged with paper, it looks like paper from some broken filter. I check the maintenance manual and it doesn't say anything about another filter. Could you tell me if it has another filter? and where? thank you so much
There is no other filter in the rear housing, I would think the paper has come from somewhere else.
@@fixingfordsonsaustralia6632 okay. thank you very much for answering. Your videos are very helpful to me. I thank you very much for sharing.
Never seen one before. Quite a beast.
Thanx soo much for this video.
Just how Frodsons looked and sounded when I was a boy
Great to see you back. Any progress on the loader ?
I will do a quick update video shortly, but unfortunately, I found significant structural damage to the loader tractor and loader frame. Perils of old machinery.
I have my grandfather's one.. I don't use it anymore 😢
Is there another o ring on the discharge pipe from the tap?
There shouldn't be an O ring on the copper outflow pipes, just an 'olive' compression fitting
