Korg MS-10

Multitrack recording of the Korg MS-10. All sounds are made with the MS-10. Actually I used 3 MS-10's. Using the external input, a nice distortion can be added when stacking multiple MS-10's. For sequencing duties I used the Dotcom Q960 Sequencer, the Dotcom Q104 Midi Interface module and the Q125 Signal Processor module (for attenuating the voltage control and offsetting the trigger signal to ...
solid bud.Yamaha would have said you for this back in the day.☺
I meant paid you for this!!
Less than 3 minutes in and 😮 🔥 🔊 🎹
This is fantastic
You are a great composer and arranger of electronic music!!! You are the very best!! I like! Amazing synth sound and super recording!!
Thank you very much Claudio!
I often prefer bad over unremarkable, and I know you often cleverly exploit and incorporate specific characteristics of a synth in your compositions. It still doesn't move me sonically and doesn't tickle me in its fringes. But the love you put into making it appear almost better than it is, that's where the joy is. I wish I loved these Akai's more, if only to hook up a 60 with the S612.
Dude the hi hat sound is amazing ?!
The CS’s multimode filter is one of the best filters I’ve come across for making percussive sounds. Thanks!
i cant install with sound manager
@@janedman it’s a sysex file which will play in any DAW on a MIDI track, or you can send it to your NL4 using Sysex Librarion on Mac or MidiOX on PC. I’ll reach out to you by email.
I added the NL4 bundle as well. You can download it with the same link. This file can be loaded into the Nord Sound Manager.
@@rimela thanks very much it sounds gret:-)
@@janedman Perfect! Thanks and have fun with the patches!
good job🙂
@@edenhunter9904 Thank you Eden!
good dem🙂o thanks
@@edenhunter9904 Thank you!
Bought one but i don't know how to make sounds. I wish there was a warning to people not familiar with synthesis and making sounds from scratch. Bought this and the Monopoly the same day and both are going up for sale sadly.
@@helpmeiaminhell I’ll take em 😄
@@rimela LOL if you are serious I'll do $950 shipped for both. MS-5 was bought new and the Monopoly was bought used but it near mint if not mint.
@@helpmeiaminhellI strongly encourage you to just keep em. I think Behringer did a good job, especially on the MS-5. If you’re new to analogue synthesis, then these two are really a great start for learning to make sounds as well as keep you happy for a lifetime programming and exploring sounds. I don’t know about the Behringers but the originals had manuals, which you can find online by the way, that have sound example sheets and explanation of synthesizer basics. These will get you started.
beautiful demo
@@DMTCYMATICSDreamMusicTemple Thanks!
Another awesome set of tracks & like someone has mentioned the mix & production are perfect.
@@zilchnilton Thank you Zilch!
I really wonder how you get your mixes this sharp yet airy.
@@jairkerker2821 Hi Jair, let me try to explain my way of working: the main rule is to not get anything in each other’s way. This starts already with playing, programming and tweaking the sounds while recording each individual track. After recording all tracks I filter out the low end on all tracks except bass and kick drum using EQ. Compression, panning and volume are used to get all tracks in the right balance. I usually use one Hall Reverb, one Delay and one Room reverb via Send/Return. I expand all 3 FX pushing them to both L and R, this creates room for the fx while also broadening the stereo image of the mix. On the master bus I use multiband compression.
@@rimela Grateful for your extensive reply, thanks! Do you have favorite reverbs and multiband compressors, and are the ones you're using physical outboard devices or plugins? I admire your compositions and obviously love your choice of instruments and the way you overcome the handicaps of using one model to play all the parts (especially with the mono's) and the choice for the triptych format works great for movement. But your mixes are something else; a field I have so much to learn about. So fresh! I often like to treat reverbs like they are instruments in between the notes, a part of the composition really. Do you mix by ear or are you using a more scientific approach? Circumstances finally allow me to set up a synth/drum machine based studio as we speak, and I love talking shop and learning from other enthousiasts. If you do too and you can spare the time, maybe we can meet up one day; I'd very much appreciate that.
@@rimelaGreat, thanks! I wrote the address down, so if you want to you can delete your reply.
@@jairkerker2821 okey thanks
@@jairkerker2821 To come back to your questions: for the TH-cam demo’s I only use the standard effects that come with Ableton Live. I do have an arsenal of vintage effect units though: I especially like the Yamaha REV5 and the Korg SDD-2000. I do all my mixing in Ableton, and yes, I mix by ear. Please feel free to drop me an e-mail.
Great music, aynth not so great :) well done. Again
Nice stuff. Do you have / can you make a video of how to use midi with MS10 please? We have an original one from the 80s, I have heard it is possible somehow (????)
Thanks Tibby, what you need is a MIDI to CV/trigger converter. The option I suggest (also the cheapest I believe) is a Korg SQ-1. The SQ-1 is connected to your DAW by USB. Connect CV out A to VCO CV IN and GATE to TRIGGER IN on your Korg MS. The SQ-1 is a great little analogue sequencer as well.
Thanks for the Quick response. We have a really old one, would it work with those too?
@@tibbyk5888 Sure! The SQ-1 will work with both old and new MS versions. I only have late 70’s MS10 and 20’s.
@@tibbyk5888 With the SQ-1 you will need two mono 3,5mm to 6,3mm jack cables
@@rimelaI see. I'm Kind of a DAW guy, but I really would love to take the MS10 in somehow. Tweaking while playing is not easy 😀 This could be a good solution. I have to learn patching too. Thanks!!!
This is a another very satisfying track. Keep up the great work. This inspires me to revisit my Nord Lead 2, which I recall you also did an awesome demo for a while ago!

The best SH vid I can tell it’s all SH7 I gota ask how did you go about seq. Them works? Seems like MC4/Daw mixture?
Thanks! I used the dotcom Q174 midi -> cv/gate module. Midi sequencing in Ableton Live. In the second half I used the Q960 sequencer. All audio recording in Ableton.
Excellent. Thank you!
@@kohlemainen Thanks!
The first one (and best) of these tracks, reminded me the soundtrack of "The Vanishing". Could easily be one of the soundtrack's themes. Very lush sounding.
Thank you! The Vanishing, interesting. I looked it up and remember reading the book. Do you mean the 1988 movie or a later version?
@@rimela Spoorloos (1988) of course.
@@thejollyjoker187 Ah great, the music was composed by Henny Vrienten. Now that is a big compliment. Thanks man.
I looked for the soundtrack, but it turns out it was never released and is nowhere to be found, it seemed to be ‘vanished’. But, recently there was a podcast on this: it is found and the original DAT master tape is being digitized. It is still not released yet, but in that podcast you hear a piece of it: it is just phenomenal.
on.soundcloud.com/Jtvih2VMW3djtkbj9 It’s in the last 5 minutes. Enjoy!
Nicely done. Hearing this, I understood why there was a need for drum machines back then.
Wow! Just wow!
Kudos for the Doctor Who hommage!
Ha Markus, thanks!
Fantastic demo and great songs!
@@MarkusGeheim Thank you Markus!
Really excellent work; I think this is the very best I've heard the AX80 sound. And yes, you are dead-on with the observation that it just needs a bit of FX to make it come to life. Question, are you doing anything to fatten up the sound on the arpeggiated bassline in the piece beginning at ~2m? I don't think I've ever heard an AX80 sound this fat. Apart from detuning and the appropriate filter / reso settings, are you doing anything to it? Cheers.
Thanks! The sound is straight from the AX adding a little bit compression (direct on bass channel and multiband on the mix). My patches are available for free (see download link). Can add Stems if you like.
Great patches and tunes...I love my NL1 and 2 and the 2 might be the more enjoyable of the two for the added poly and the more memory, at least with the men card in. I don't understand why some bash it saying it doesn't sound as good as the NL1. While I haven't sat down and played them side by side I simply love both, NL2 might be the greatest synth ever, at least VA in terms of sound, features and easiness factor!
@@AnalogFlava Thanks! At one point I also had both the Nord 1 and 2. Both are great but I preferred the 2, I guess for the reasons you mentioned. Also had a 3, which has a fantastic interface. Currently I’m working on the NL4, so stay tuned.

Great demo, I did not know my MS10 could make these sounds!
@@mackadresse6095 Thanks Mack. The MS10 is actually my favorite of the MS range of synths.
You did a great job with this recording. I was not a big fan of the poly 61 at the time, but your demo makes it shine!
@@mackadresse6095 Thanks! I suppose this comment was meant for my P61 video? The P61 is simple, has an awful interface, and has a unique sound which I really like.

Fantastic music. It's all here, all your influences, and your own touch
@@LFOVCF Thank you!
I had the CS-5 which had most of the features of this. I thought it was a terrible synth and haven’t once regretted selling it. Very narrow palette and the only good thing about it was the keyboard mechanism - but even that was of limited use as it was incompatible with the CV/GATE standards adopted by other manufacturers. Best avoided.
Beautiful workx! ❤
Loving all authentic music here. One could say classic, vintage yes, but indeed modern and forward looking. Dig it very much, right up my alley! Sub.
Greeat job, man 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Beautiful tracks (and synth). 👏
