Great sounds and performance on your CS-15. I'm chillin here listening to this and I think it's a great piece of art how you have made all the sounds and combined them. Respect
Superb use of the synth - you know it so well !! I learned subtractive synthesis on one of these in 1980… bought one again three years ago. Among a rack of monos and polys this is still the one I’d save from a flood/fire/alien invasion.
Thank you! Indeed, it’s one of the best mono’s. I got asked once which single monosynth I’ld take with me to a desert island. Then I chose the MS-10 over the CS-15. Maybe it should have been the other way around.
Your mixes are as close to perfect as I could ever hope to achieve in a lifetime. The synth parts sound so clear, detailed and never squashed, even after y'tube compression. Frankly I don't know how you pulled this one off, as the headroom available with my own CS-15 seems like these mixes would be impossible. Would love to know some of your recording and processing secrets. Outstanding job on this one, it's one of my favorites of yours.
Thank you very much for this nice comment! Here is some info on my recording process: I record the synth directly into Ableton and do processing (compression, EQ, reverb, delay) using the standard FX within Ableton only). In the mixing stage I remove the low end of basically all tracks except kick and/or bass. Then some panning and getting the volumes right. On the master channel I use a (multiband) compression, some EQ and limiter. So I mix and master in one go, being able to tweak individual tracks if they don’t sound good in the (master)mix.
Cool tune in that opening (really all of them, but I like how the first one came together an awful lot...) - glad this turned up in my feed. You gained a new subscriber. You gave me even more reasons to love my CS-15.
5:00 So did you pipe a guitar through the synth or is that just what the Yamaha generated? (Getting severe David Bowie "Weeping Wall" and other assorted Low tracks vibes here)
Hi Robert, that is the CS-15’s output running back into the external input creating a feedback loop. All sounds you hear in the video are generated with the CS-15
Thanks! And wow, good question! I'ld go for the CS-15. It has the perfect balance I think. In the studio the CS-30 gives you unique sounds you just won't get from anything else. The CS-15 is fantastic for live performance as well as in the studio.
Happy to see your subscriptions increasing, your work deserves to be listened to by millions I bought three synths already because of the tracks you upload ! You should do one with the Yamaha CS20M…
Thank you so much Edgard! Nice suggestion, the CS20M, I would have done the CS40M, but I sold it in able to get the GRPA4. I dont’t regret that at all but I kinda miss the 40M. Anyway, if I manage to get a hold of one of those CS’s I will make a demo for sure.
Hey Thank you for this voyage ! I have a CS-15 and I'm getting inspired by what you create ! Did you managed to play with It with the CV control ? like with a arturia keystep pro ? Thanks and keep posting
Thanks Qerjij! I used the Korg SQ1 for sequencing. The Yamaha CV/trigger system is almost the same as the Korg’s, except you need to attenuate the frequency to be able to play lower notes.
Great done I hate when people do this kind of thing and use samples for drums. Making drum sounds with synthesizers is a noble task for an electronic musician
The CS-15 is the one to go for: two oscillators, two filter sections, nice routing possibilities. The CS-10 is nice nevertheless, and the envelope seems to be a bit more snappy, but soundwise the 15 is superior in my opinion.
It’s a 220V (European electricity grid) and I didn’t have to modify anything. However, there is a voltage switch on the back of the CS. I believe that if you set it to the correct voltage you will not need a converter or modification at all (except maybe putting a correct power plug on it).
You have one of the CS15s with multiple voltage transformer. Those made for the Japan market do not have that option, they are 100V only. Thanks again.
Thanks Emmanuel! By today's standards, we can hardly imagine a synth without presets. But if you don't actually have any presets, you get creative. It ensures that you quickly learn how to program a synth. You also never sound exactly the same. I see this as an advantage rather than a disadvantage.
Only problem with SQ1 is the pitch: the CS needs lower voltages (compared to Korg’s MS series). I use attenuator cables for that. How do you solve this problem?
How does this compare with the cs30 sound wise?. Also, did you use effects here to get these distorted electric guitar-like lead?. Thanks and good demo!. :)
Have you seen my CS30 video? I think the CS30 is superior feature wise, but don't underestimate how sound might benefit from simplicity. I use the CS15 much more often because of that. The 'guitar-like' sound I obtained from feeding the CS output back into the external input (no fx other than reverb/delay). Both CS15 and CS30 can do that. In the CS30 video I took it a bit more into the extreme though.
@@rimelaok thanks a lot!. Yes I saw your other video :). I want a cs30 but the available listings only are 110v compatible, and in my country I use 220V. I don’t want to use a voltage adapter because once I purchased one and it failed, and my gear died because of that :(, so since then, I don’t take risks. But as the CS15 can be used in my country I was considering it. I think I will get a CS15 as soon as possible, I do like the sound and your video convinced me. Thanks a lot for helping other musicians by showing instruments, this is very helpful. Cheers!.
Thanks! That distorted sound is generated by feeding the output of the CS back into the external input. I wouldn’t know how to recreate that with a vst, but I doubt it would be as warm and rich as the real deal.
Nicely done. Hearing this, I understood why there was a need for drum machines back then.
so unknown and underrated channel, full of truly masterpieces
Thanks Sergei!
Synths have that effect on you. Nice love letter for sure.✌️
I’ve owned a CS-80 and in my humble opinion, the smaller CS’s are more desirable for electronica. For used prices it’s definitely a

best video of this machine in youtube, I loved it, top sound design and performance, looking forward for get one of these.

Some fantastic sounds in there...I'll have to up my CS-series game

Very cool sounds. I own a CS-10 since recently and could hear some of that same DNA in your demo. Such flexibility from a simple synth. Well done!
Thanks Edgar! Congratulations on your CS-10. That is a fantastic synth. Have you checked out my CS-10 demo?
Your demo is so good, I just had to get me a CS-15! Can't wait to get my hands on it. In the mean time, I will get inspired here with your vids :)
