Lets be honest anything south of Santa Barbra is not a terrible looking place to be a homeless addict. It doesnt rain that much. It only gets so cold. The scenery is amazing. Most things on the coast are incredibly walkable. Seems like a useless and shitty life. But its doable.

We visited Bombay Beach a couple years ago and saw great sculptures on the beach. There was also a cool dive bar off the main road with great bar food. Also visited Slab City and Redemption Mountain nearby which was also interesting.

The cell phone towers disguised as trees are because of NIMBYs. Here in California everything is offensive to everyone.

Have you ever seen German in Venice? He used to have a shop on Venice Beach. In the last year, they did a lot to clean and secure rest rooms and get rid of the homeless.

Those flags at Cal Poly give away the time frame of your visit as those are 3000 flags to represent those lost on 9/11. Each year a motorcycle event, Ride To The Flags, is held from Naval Base Ventura County to the flags around that time. The base is about 10 minutes down road from the giant sand dune you stopped at.
