Bash2024
I got out and mingled at the summer bash, had a good time. I typically don't get out much.
Met a few heroes, talked and asked silly questions. They're all living the dream, while I'm mostly working my day job.
Definitely recommend going if you can, meet folks, learn something new, everyone likes to share their experiences, so it's worth it to go.

Power supply... Again.
มุมมอง 257หลายเดือนก่อน
Power on test of the main power unit is successful! This took a long time to build because I had to fab a bracket from scratch to make this a module, and I don't really plan that much.. I slap stuff together and see if it works. It's half and half down and dirty and make it nice so it can be reused later. This will be a drop-in unit for the finished product, so .. we're almost there.

Shop organization is important, it frees-up wasted space, and space that could be better utilized for something else. That being said, the wet wipe container was problematic, and had to be stored in my crap pile, so I revised our boom holder to include the wipes, sort of an evolution of the tool board. Go make one yourself to get your tools all nice and organized and hanging up on the wall! Che...

We took some steps forward, some backward. I got the power supply to output 50V and promptly killed it. Current control is still under investigation. I am also renovating my workspace with some cute new features, which y...
Power Supply Update

Progress is slow, and hard earned! This one isn't as easy as it would seem because so much of it is feedback driven. I forgot to tie-in a ground line, which provided power, but with the two grounds un-connected, caused a massive instability, and I couldn't figure out why it was switching like a turn signal indicator. Slice 1 also decided to commit suicide, in a sudden flamboyant way, which ende...

The other issue here is troubleshooting, one bug and I have potentially wasted days of precious time on junk, so its better to go ...

Still working on this power supply. The design is based on the Chinese import ones, that ripped off their design from Tektronix, of course, this is very basic. Almost A Power Supply
มุมมอง 408 หลายเดือนก่อน
I'm making very slow progress on my big power supply, but it is working. I need to rethink the board layout and get a power control board in the build pipeline so I can stop using the HP. It also helps when setting the relay trip points if you have the control installed. The trip points are somewhat hard to guesstimate, and heavier loads sometimes interfere with ranging. So far, ranging basical...

MP3will not play. AAC format will play Flac will play, but from a CD you get a lot of horrible skipping! The ridiculous part is the goddam thing records in mp4, but won't play mp3, and recognizes jpg's, so there must be some politics going on here. There is no such thing as a "lossless" format, I think they want you to re-buy everything as usual.

    I was really hoping that I could re-concentrate the Ferric Chloride, but the trouble is as more HCl leaves the FeCl3, it decomposes to FeOCl, so if you're hoping to re-crystallize the FeCl3 as I was, this will not happen. The only way you could re-crystallize the FeCl3 is to roast it in a pressure vessel that survives corrosion, in a Chlorine atmosphere under pressure, which is a bit dangerous for us home gamers.

So I have a couple matched sets of doorknobs, and this coil's bank is using 9 and can use up to 16 at any time because of the PCB mounting them, but that's what they are.

    @mkeyser 17 ปีที่แล้ว

    You wouldn't be able to charge anything with a Tesla coil except a capacitor that can handle the very high frequency energy. How long you can store the charge is then a matter of capacitence. Getting a big 1MV capacitor would be very difficult.

  • @mkeyser
    @mkeyser 17 ปีที่แล้ว

    That would be very costly. The capacitor would run about ~$800 alone, not to mention this system is not optimized yet. These systems are best left to the individual to construct because the budget is out-of-control. I will be designing a webpage for the optimization of these systems sometime in the future, and then individual builders will be able to improve their systems for maximum outputs. Matt
