- This is a portable welder, with Arduino and a touch screen. I was asked to help investigate how to integrate an external input to the machine, and spent some time getting into touch screen work as well as some aesthetic refinements for the user interface.
Difficulty was maybe a 6 out of 10, most of the core software was re-written.
The worst part is the Adafruit screen hates shields, or maybe it was a reset line that was being held low, I don't know, but I gave it hell and worked around whatever was the problem and forced it to work.
So now it works!!! And I am happy.
I think there is a connection problem between the serial port and the Arduino when you plug a shield in, maybe the pins don't quite reach, so I took the headers meant for the shields and put them into the Arduino board itself, so you could plug the screen in on top, and plug a shield on the back, I call it an Arduino Uno Reverse!!
